I'm pretty sure that the reason why the dragon crest ring works with pyromancy is cause pyromancys used to be known as fire sorceries and only became it's own thing after the witch of izalith became the bed of chaos,in fact the fire demon sage is the last fire sorcerer
As such it's considered primitive and unrefined, leading to it being shunned by the sorcerers of Vinheim. Pyromancers are outcasts, as noted by Laurentius of the Great Swamp, pyromancy doesn't mesh well with advanced culture.
Yeah they probably went in early states of development with pyromancy as a variety of sorcery like in demons souls, changed it to a separate school with a separate catapyst, but forgot to program it out of the ring

Maneater Mildred is super resistant to fire because she's always bathing in Quelaag's lava pools. Edit: I was joking at first, but now I'm convinced the developers gave her high fire resistance to stop her getting obliterated by lava during the boss fight.
8:54 Pyromancies are internally treated like Sorceries, so anything that "boosts sorceries" also boosts Pyromancies. The Bellowing does not boost Miracles, and it only affects direct damage spells, not weapon buffs or the poison Pyromancies.
Your pov is very true for most of the game but lost izilath and demon ruins is where this challenge earns its name as pretty much every boss there has fire resistance. Oh and ornstein and smough second phase
Most every challenge run I see someone says this. it's still more challenging than playing a standard pyromancer who would just have a chaos or fire sword backing him up.

@@Xaero13 SL1 Pyro is arguably not THAT gimped, since pyromancy doesn't scale with stats. Only downside is less health and Stam but, not as bad as it sounds really if you know the movements. Sounds fun!
I think it's funny that you struggled against Kalameet, because with Power Within and an RTSR setup, it is possible to one-shot him with Chaos Fire Storm, I believe it's called. And Power Within is a pyromancy too, so it doesn't break the rules of this run.

I went in and in the middle of the fight he did his grab attack twice in a row (which felt cheap) so then when he suddenly disappeared out of existence and I was told I vanquished him, I was like "well... Oh boy, the Quelaag bit brings back memories of doing this run in a slightly different way. I did a variant with only the dragon head stone, no armor, and no blocking. Quelaag, Gwyn, Artorias and 4 Kings were absolute hell.
The run still wouldn't be possible because there's no way to get to the DLC before Quelaag, so no way to get black flame to kill her. Punching her to death or using Mildred don't count because neither are pyromancies, and skipping her with the deathcam glitch would break the no major bugs or glitches rule. That's why he says in the first 5 seconds that it isn't possible and also why he used a glitch to kill centipede demon

Nice video. Pyromancies were my favorite, because of how useful they are in a hybrid built where you mix melee and magic. And with the right pyros and an upgraded flame Ornstein and Snough become a lot easier. Some 9f those spells hit like a truck XD

The Soul Level 1 challenge is regarded as easiest in Dark Souls 1 (and by extension the remaster) precisely because pyromancy buys you enough damage to even dispatch later bosses like Manus and Kalameet with the damage of a normal playthrough (especially in a hyper mode set-up). This was always gonna be a breeze. On that note, SL1 no pyro when?

Pyromancy is so strong it actually feels like cheating at times. I'm currently doing my own pyro run, but I will allow myself to use fist weapons and consumables such as firebombs as well. Qelaag still nearly broke me.
There is no lore. FromSoft designed Izalith/Demon Ruins/Queelag so that you wouldn't get fucked if you chose the pyromancer route. That's why Mildred has good damage and is resistant to fire/lava, why Ceaseless has the cheese strat, and why you can skip Centipede and Firesage with the Chaos Servants covenant.

@@uuddlrlrabsmhm8430 All it takes is a lot of practice, and a lot more patience. SL1 is actually pretty fun if you know what you're doing. The strongest weapon you can equip is the Reinforced Club, but your main damage dealer will be the Pyromancy Flame. The first thing that will help is getting the Elite Knight gear from Darkroot Forest in the room before the Butterfly. You can equip two(?) of those armor pieces with the Reinforced Club and still be able to roll decently, and the Stone armor after you open the way to Sif. You can only equip the chest piece without fat rolling though IIRC. Havel's Armor is an absolute MUST if you fight the 4 Kings. Equip it all and run in close and spam Combustion.

You forgot about poison and toxic pyromancies. Not sure how much damage you would get out of them but they were an option from once you arrived in Blighttown
Ah I remember doing this challenge. Walking into the Capra fight right out of the asylum in RTSR setup with the intention of throwing time consuming spells that I'm not allowed to miss is pretty fucking intimidating.
The fact that mildred is somewhat resistant to fire makes her viable against Quelaag. I don‘t know if there is any lore connection about her being fire resistant, but it makes sense gameplay-wise
I beat DS with pyromancy only + no lock-on awhile back. I also did a Sorcery run and miracle run + no lock-on. I'd intended to do the same with Bows, but the no-lock-on requirements became far too stringent for me to beat the four kings so I dropped them. I just couldn't do enough damage fast enough to get ahead of the king spawns, so I ended up getting ganked. Maybe I'll revisit someday.
@@YoungMoonPlays I only play souls-bourne games no lock-on. It gives me a nice challenge. Sekiro was a bit more difficult because it can be hard to reposition (no backstep, so you need to turn around to back up), and you need to keep track of boss movements in a way that you wouldn't otherwise. For instance, Issin will sometimes try to walk around to your backside and backstab you, and without lock-on you need to physically turn to face him to counter him. Also, Mikiri counter is VERY exacting with no lock-on. A bunch of times it doesn't proc when it seems it really should have. You have to very carefully dash into the thrust attack to get a proper Mikiri.
...acutally, couldn't you use Black Flame to deal with Bed of Chaos? Anyway, seeing a good quality and quite good humor, I think we may have a rising star here.

stray demon might be fire resistant, but he's one of few bosses that is susceptible to both poison and toxic, so you could've cheesed about half of his health by using toxic mist when doing the trick that prevents him from spotting you instantly
I tried this one run with bleed only and got the Life hunt scythe as my weapon. I did not know that it gives the wielder bleed procs as well as your enemies. I raged a lot.
The fact that he never went and grabbed poison mist near the great hollow so he could poison fire immune enemies for atleast SOME damage irks me uncontrollably, eingi also sells poison AND toxin mist too if you get infected with an eggsac, so there's a pretty reliable source of non-fire damage early on.

SL1 Pyro is a very fun build to play. I've done it myself. SL1 Darkwraith is also very fun.

I am pretty sure that Black Flame in DS1 deals partially physical damage, so it should have worked against the fire-immune bosses.
And all fire immune bosses either have summons available or need less hits that the black flame allowed (bed of chaos and ceaseless)

You can do this at level 1 actually. You never need to level up, but fighting kings is gnarly. Otherwise ez fun run love the content
Kings isn't that bad. Just wear Havel's armor to tank damage and spam fireballs.

You can only equip the chest piece without fat rolling though IIRC. Havel's Armor is an absolute MUST if you fight the 4 Kings. Equip it all and run in close and spam Combustion.

Ah I remember doing this challenge. Walking into the Capra fight right out of the asylum in RTSR setup with the intention of throwing time consuming spells that I'm not allowed to miss is pretty fucking intimidating.

The fact that mildred is somewhat resistant to fire makes her viable against Quelaag. I don‘t know if there is any lore connection about her being fire resistant, but it makes sense gameplay-wise
For Bed and Ceaseless, maybe you could've tried going for an early Black Flame, since the damage is partially physical?

I beat DS with pyromancy only + no lock-on awhile back.
I also did a Sorcery run and miracle run + no lock-on.
I'd intended to do the same with Bows, but the no-lock-on requirements became far too stringent for me to beat the four kings so I dropped them. I just couldn't do enough damage fast enough to get ahead of the king spawns, so I ended up getting ganked. Maybe I'll revisit someday.
No lock-on is crazy. Im competing my first sorcery run at the moment
@@YoungMoonPlays I only play souls-bourne games no lock-on. It gives me a nice challenge. Sekiro was a bit more difficult because it can be hard to reposition (no backstep, so you need to turn around to back up), and you need to keep track of boss movements in a way that you wouldn't otherwise. For instance, Issin will sometimes try to walk around to your backside and backstab you, and without lock-on you need to physically turn to face him to counter him. Also, Mikiri counter is VERY exacting with no lock-on. A bunch of times it doesn't proc when it seems it really should have. You have to very carefully dash into the thrust attack to get a proper Mikiri.

Confused why you didn’t use power within for this run, but used it for the sorcery run. Would have been cool to see the crazy damage output
stray demon might be fire resistant, but he's one of few bosses that is susceptible to both poison and toxic, so you could've cheesed about half of his health by using toxic mist when doing the trick that prevents him from spotting you instantly
I tried this one run with bleed only and got the Life hunt scythe as my weapon. I did not know that it gives the wielder bleed procs as well as your enemies. I raged a lot.

Hold on, what about Poison mist for those immune to fire??
The fact that he never went and grabbed poison mist near the great hollow so he could poison fire immune enemies for atleast SOME damage irks me uncontrollably, eingi also sells poison AND toxin mist too if you get infected with an eggsac, so there's a pretty reliable source of non-fire damage early on.
Gravity does infact count as pyromancy
