With fines ranging up to £50,000, the authorities take fly-tipping extremely seriously and John isn’t going to let this one go.
Armed with a pen, a pad, and his wily copper instincts, John follows up on the clues supplied to him so far and faces up against a somewhat curious individual.

They are fobbing you off ! They can use the footage, they just can't be bothered. The crime of fly tipping outweighs the "crime" of gathering evidence of criminality by surveillance. Tell them you've had trouble there in the bit you are filming, picking up bags of rubbish? Drug deals? Antisocial behaviour? That's why CCTV?
Covert recording is not strictly allowed but you can record your partner secretly to gather evidence of abuse. I had a camera on my back gate, also saw bits of car park, the police were ungrateful I'd recorded crimes against my property and said I shouldnt "spy" on car park but they soon came knocking for evidence when car park on fire?

About tipping the rubbish, it is a bit of an awkward situation. It looked like there were a number of businesses that used that industrial estate, so the skip owner was wrong to dump it. Formally, he probably should have disposed of the contents properly and then issued a bill for the missing money; later, a small claims court might be needed. However, I know this to be a royal pain in the ar*e to do and there are all sorts of ways for a debtor to obfuscate the process.

Didn't have much to put in it, but, because the local tips were shut due to the pandemic some bloke in a white van filled it to past the point anyone would take it with garden cuttings (hedges and trees) and drove off before I could stop him. I have a bad leg from an op gone wrong and my hubs was at work. My husband had to rearrange everything so the skip place would take it back and couldn't help the neighbours. Cheeky S.O.B. He did what many, including myself, probably would do. And he immediately owned up, explained, and rectified the situation. Flytippers are filthy pigs, but based on this, Michael is not a flytipper. He simply recovered his own equipment from a non-paying customer, and left the rubbish which rightfully belongs to his customer. It was the customer who was responsible for the mess, as the customer did not arrange properly for collection. I'm hoping Michael had a lawyer involved here. He didn't do anything wrong.
