Let not forget the way we present ourselves cosmetically! A tshirt and plain pair of jeans is just plain unless we add a pop of red lipstick or put our hair in a high pony tail. A turtleneck is just a turtleneck unless we pair it with curls or a low side bun. Just mentioning this as I feel it gets overlooked 💜
I agree everything you point out especially the “ironing / steaming outfit makes huge difference” my mum used to make sure all our clothes were ironed as she referred “ you don’t want to go out with your clothes look like being stuffed in pickle jar for whole winter “ lol
Audrey, you are such a pleasure to watch. You have so much class, and it is so calming to watch. I used your videos before my first trip to Paris and it was the reason I felt so organized in my wardrobe. Thank you.
A good iron and ironing board are important: a small, good, steam iron that's manoeuvrable and can get into the tight places, and an ironing board narrow enough that your dresses fit over it so that you can easily iron one layer at a time. Not necessarily easy to find right now, but worth it. Then find something nice to listen to as you iron, and it's not so bad after all.
Pip Mitchell - actually enjoy ironing. If you make time and not rush through it. Definitely recommend a full length ironing board. I now have a table-top board and I have been doing less ironing.
I agree, and as she says "This is a very general rule." Not strict; it's referring to a mix/match base, to then add accent colors. This approach made packing for my last trip soooo easy!
And a completely unimaginative tip. There’s no limit on fun! When done correctly , multicolors can look great too such as in print and such . I agree that 3 colors is safe for the purposes of looking chic tho.
Kitten heels are the best! In my opinion , they look quietly powerful, very self confident and...sexy! all at once . They look like you're not trying too hard (opposite of very high heels) but that you just can't help exuding elegance. I tend not to wear them with dresses, but with pants, jeans, and casual skirts.
Returning to this video to say I've been implementing the "two neutrals and an accent" concept the past couple weeks just on my existing wardrobe, and it's been amazing! Both with efficiency and looking more put together. Also snuck in an old silk scarf to one of those outfits, inspired by your scarf video ! Thank you ! Love love your videos
Hi Audrey, I have realised that while watching your wonderful vides over the past months my style has really evolved to a great place. You have been a great inspiration and subconsciously it has helped me discover my personal style. I particularly love your approach to loving and wearing your treasured pieces in new ways bringing them to life with a fresh look. I am buying less with more to wear, it’s liberating. I’m 62 so it really validates how a classic style is a lasting strategy. Thank you.
I'm so glad you mentioned that ironing and steaming matter, but that allowing fabrics to behave according to their nature is important, too! This is how approach linen, for example: I want it to look "lived in" not "slept on". So, I iron my linen pants just before I put them on...and then, when they wrinkle, I enjoy their relaxed vibe. I'd rather wear a slightly-wrinkled shirt than feel a petroleum-based fabric rubbing against my skin any day, especially in summer!
Thank you Audrey for your videos. You have completely instilled confidence in me I never thought I would have. I am currently about a 100kgs. However, thanks to you and your advice, I love myself and my body the way I am, and do my best to look in the best way possible thanks to your wonderful tips. I also love your soothing talking voice and your soft persona 😊😊
I’m a new subscriber and I admire how gentle, soothing, and refined you talk and present yourself! I also can’t help but see some similarities between you and Janet/D’Arcy Carden from the Good Place ❤️✨
This is true advice. Not rammed down your throat like other sites. Advice here is not the right word, I would say you suggest, everything is positive rather than don't do this and that. Loved it and have subscribed bx
You mentioned hair accessories in your video. ! I just recently purchased 3 vintage sterling silver monogrammed barrettes. They are so lovely and the years of use and patina have made them quite charming. I love that you can instantly change up your looks, from casual, classic and polished, or dressy, etc with an addition of a unique hair accessories. It is such a simple way to create your own personal style and have fun collecting vintage pieces to add to and personalize your wardrobe
You have such a natural way of connecting. You are authentic and great at what you do. I get everything you say and that’s what I’ve always tried to do.
I like that barrette; it makes me see that I’ve ignored hair accessories. My wardrobe is in great shape (years of careful buying have paid off). If I got another top it would get worn maybe once per week (probably less), but I could wear a new hair accessory three times a week easily. Much better bang for my buck given where my wardrobe is right now.
Great video Audrey This one is truly helpful . You reminded me of things I already know, but perhaps don't really implement as often as I ought to. You're lovely and I absolutely adore your style. I enjoy your channel so much and I especially love that you're in Charleston, my favorite city in the states, possibly even the world. I always make time in the evening to put my outfit together for the next day. If it's rainy or something, I place extra layers out just in case, or even an alternative outfit.. I choose my accessories and handbag the night before also. This just makes my day and time go better, and I never feel rushed. Thank you and God bless.
Thank you once again, Audrey. Your videos have certainly inspired me to look at and remember the little things that I used to do automatically. As we age, I think people try to fit into what ‘others’ perceive should be a style for women in their 50’s, 60’s or even 70’s. This particular video, which I love, brings us all back to the basics. The accessories and the little styling additions make my otherwise lifeless outfits make me feel wonderful. I have learned from you to wear outfits for me...not for anyone else. If I feel good I look good!
Right after I watched your videos, I became so lady like. It's like I am evaluating myself how I speak and act, you're my wake up call. And of course, your fashion style I loved so much 😍
Audrey, I just had a very very bad panic attack and this calmed me down so nicely. Your voice is just angelic and youe videos are so calm and easygoing. Thank you.
It would be great to see some chic looks in a very different body type. Often, "chic" seems to mean a style that looks great on slender small-busted person, like Audrey Hepburn. But what does chic look like on a more rounded figure with more bust and hips?
True, but Audrey herself is slender, so that's that. I guess we rounder ladies have to look elsewhere. I have to say though, that many tips are still helpful for me
I find that most tips still apply. In my case, I have wide hips and butt and in order to look elegant, I have a few tips of my own: - steer clear from bodycon dresses. A line dresses are the best discovery I'm made for myself since they look classy and flattering on my body shape - avoid low waist skinny jeans and opt for high wasted straight leg instead as they are flattering without overly attracting attention to the width of the hips - if you're wearing clothing that highlights your hips, avoid flaunting your cleavage and vice versa; I find highlighting just one of those features at once looks great, but both looks a bit like trying to hard. I know fashion is very personal so this might not apply to everyone, but personally I'd feel very cheap looking in a bodycon dress, while I feel like a million bucks in an A line dress. It's all about finding the clothes that suit and frame your body in the best way possible. Not all styles suit everyone equally.
This channel is so, so refreshing. I've been binging a lot of your videos! I'm in my mid-20s now and sometimes the fashion RUclipsrs I've been subscribed to don't entirely match my current style preferences, so thank god you arrived in my recommended vids
Hi Audrey! I recently went back through a bunch of your videos, and I think this may be one of your best ones to date! I would appreciate more content like this.
Beautiful lady. Great tips.... especially checking out Pinterest/online ideas! Love the photography and the very soft music to go with your elegant pairings. A pleasure to watch. Thank you for your effort!
You are the best advertisement for your advice on how to look 'effortlessly chic'. All your looks are so chic, and yet not contrived. If course, it helps to have such a good figure!!
Hi Audrey. Your channel found me, I guess. I’ve watched several of your videos from 2017 through 2019. What a wonderful job you do. I’m glad you ask your audience is there anything you do for the different seasons (I’m paraphrasing). I do. I polish my leather boots and shoes. It protects and helps keep the leather subtle. I also take my boots or shoes to a cobbler for heel repair. Kiwi shoe polish is an old faithful, but there are other polishes I’m sure I don’t know about. Consider buying a shoe box and fill it with the basics. One last thing. A lint roller can be your best friend for all those beautiful pieces you own. Absolutely love your channel. Find it hypnotic.
Judith Catlett, I discovered a fantastic shoe polish from France, called “Saphir” and its so rich and creamy and comes in many colors. It’s a bit pricey, but worth it as a little goes a long way.
Another great video. Loved your point about wearing 3 colours. I've watched Italian dressing videos (from Italy) and the well-dressed prefer to only wear 2 colours. Great tips.
Traveling numerous times every year to Italy this is very true. Especially in Milan I noticed that the most refined wore only black and white. Especially during cooler months they choose one dark neutral for the whole outfit.
I do collect pictures of outfits I love but you gave me another idea I wouldn’t have thought of on my own,. Any time I put together something I like I’m going to take a picture and collect my own file. That way I won’t be spending time of thinking one up each and every time. It will also show me where I can add, subtract, or if it’s a good look for me. Shouldn’t take to long before I’ll have a useful file of what I have, or need. The big payoff too is not spending time thinking what shall I wear. Thank you. I’ve subscribed! Let’s do this!😊
Also, spend a bit more on shoes, quality footwear in general. Remember, feet take the most pressure during the day. Feet support your whole body so it is important to prioritize your shoewear and make it last for years to come.
...... I was going to comment on that. My friends would often say to me , " you spend a lot on a pair of shoes, but less on a dress, etc"... My thoughts are that the shoes are supporting my body , I won't be wearing " stilletos" or some such thing.... A 3 to 3 1/2 inch heel is versatile.... Very few times would I purchase a 4" heel. ( I am 5'2" , by the way!)
Thank you Audrey, I really enjoy your channel. You always so look beautiful and I love all of your outfits, especially the way you make them "pop" with such simple things. I loved the suggestion to pin pictures I like from places such as Pinterest to make a collection of instant ideas. I am going to a casual party tonight (outdoor - it's autumn/fall here), and I will use your 3-colours suggestion. I appreciate that you take the time to make this content available for free. :) Thank you once again.
I like you on how you discussed the topic. It is informative and very helpful. Unlike the other video from other person that seems like ranting and boasting how "elegant" she is. Lookong forward for more helpful videos.thanks!!!
I have been watching you and Justine Leconte, and you're both making me think so much about my clothes. I love your tip on personal style touches. I bought a sweater just last week that is very outside of my comfort zone, but when I tuck it in and roll the sleeves, it looks really modern-chic. So I'm hoping to start there and get better at incorporating those types of personalizations into more of my clothes. Thank you for being so encouraging! I appreciate you.
These are amazing tips! Ive been looking into dressing a bit more professional/chic, but dont know how to dress with the clothes I already own. I will definitely be using these! ❤
Ironing (or steaming) is soooo important! I love to wear a crisp white shirt - but once you are in the car with a seat belt on, the wrinkles start! Sleeve length, for me, is key. I always try to show my wrists (the smallest part of my body!), and this fools the eye into thinking you are slimmer. I pop my collars, too - again to add length to my torso (I'm 5'1" and round). The funny part is, so many people think it is inadvertent, instead of thoughtful! My d-i-l always tells me my collar is up and is surprised when I say "I know, it's supposed to be!".
I just tuned into your channel for the first time. Love your advice and soft voice. I’ve become a new subscriber. Now I will binge watch all your other videos. You are a very classy lady. Jeanne

Love her soft voice, doesn't feel like she's yelling at me what I should wear.
bonnie hickey - yes she does have a lovely voice, doesn’t she?
But isn’t the point of watching her vlog obtaining her dressing tips.
Ceilidh Snider - yes. But no harm in her having a lovely voice to deliver those tips, right?

Ironing even makes a small but important difference in fit, as pressed, in-place fibers improve the lines of the garment so that it falls correctly.
Cynthia R Absolutely makes all the difference, love ironing!
