I am in 100% agreement. R D definitely deserved an Oscar, and you people are right, the movie with its twists and turns was certainly not below average.
This musical score title of SHALIMAR is unforgettable and unparalled in the history of hindi cinema. There can never ever be such a score or title music ever. This musical score is thousands of years ahead of its time, I moment I hear this title and shalimar songs it takes me back in time to the late 70's when it was released. It is very sad that no music can ever come close to as much as 1% of this musical track. I am very happy to know that it is under the guidance of the great music maeastro Rahul Dev Burman that Mr. Kersi Lord arranged this music. I have no words left to express my gratitude and pleasure at being able to listen to such beautiful music. God bless Pancham Da and Kersi Lord, but they have left indelible impressions on the music scene.
Too melodious and mind smoothing Theme Music composed by my favorite PanchamDa for 1980 film Shalimar. One can listen to it sitting back and enjoy Brilliantly played Guitar and Saxophone.

R D Burman was very talented & surely one of the pioneers in bringing in superior audio fidelity in India. Also, his orchestration was very innovative & uncluttered. That said, when we think of movie composers like Max Steiner, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, James Barry, Henry Mancini, Leonard Bernstein, Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer etc, they are in a different class. They had the advantage of being trained in symphonic & jazz music & had the best of sound engineering tools & personnel at their disposal. Entirely my personal opinion.
I am very curious to know who played the drums on this particular song of Shalimar. Superb orchestration and superb drumming. Very very unique music on this unforgettable track. Salute to KERSI LORD and the great PANCHAM DA.
