    Thank you. Very inspiring. So intuatively I would think doing a relaxing outbreath and than putting your head in some cold water would help bring stress down even more than taking an inbreath. Could you explain a bit more why not to release on the outbreath?

    Is it possible that the reduction in HRV during the immersion/ breathold actually increases HRV long term I.e. once the stimulus has been removed and homeostasis is restored?

      Great question. We will initially see a reduction in HRV as the cold shock response kicks in. But then, with the breath hold and immersion, the vagal tone will increase to move into the conservation state. A reduction in HR shows this... It seems as though this is also trainable. And the conservation adaptation improved. One reason why freedivers usually can hold their breath for longer in water vs land. When trained. The hormesis element should improve as long as the person can consciously stay relaxed and also has the reserve capacity to recover from the exposures.
