In 1969, I was 8 and KNEW that I wanted to teach. My friends and I mimicked Karen Valentine's hair and clothing. In 2000, after being an acute care nurse, I joined the nursing faculty where I had graduated and taught for 18 years. Now, I'm back in the frontlines in the hospital during a pandemic. This time, I teach patients how to take care of their broken hearts (and other body parts). Watching Room 222 tonight reminded me of our days of innocence in the U.S.
American life is so ugly now.
To the soul who posted the video, thank you for this little gift.

One of the best series from the late 60's to early 70's! Used to watch this religiously back in the day when ABC had their Friday night lineup of The Brady Bunch, Nanny & The Professor, The Partridge Family, Room 222, and Love American Style! Oh the memories!!!

The Richie Lane character was taken off the show after two seasons because the Producers felt he had lost his "Overall Cuteness". He was replaced by Eric Laneueville who was naturally short and a good actor, but it was still one of the moca that led to the show's cancellation in 1974!

After 40+ years, the writing is really quite good and it handled complex story lines. 1969 mind you... the dark ages... yet here were such charming characters played by talented actors. They were, but it WAS a conservative, upper middle class school in a "good" part of town. It's implied not all schools were the same.
Case example of a school from a poorer part of the city would be "Welcome Back Kotter" and the clothes, kids, and attitude reflected it.

***** But don't forget about Karen Valentine. This show had a couple of hotties!! (Plus the girl who played student Helen Loomis was worth a look too.)

trwent No doubt Karen was a super cuttie too. Gotta take a second look at Helen Loomis. I felt close to that series because I lived around the corner from LA High during the 60's & early 70's. I remember watching the fire & earthquake bring that building down from my back porch.

Had a school boy crush on Denise Nicholas. And who did not want a teacher like Mr. Haynes? Or a teacher's aide/new teacher like Karen Valentine. Such a great show along with so many during that era: Mod Squad, Courtship of Eddie's Father. There was real hope in the air...Seems like eons ago...

I lived there for two years, and heard kids use the term "fu*%ng niiigga guy" a lot when referring to blacks.
Used differently than when they called whites "haoles" who they didn't seem to like, of even speak to at all.
But yes, most locals were live and let live.

I've heard that there was an episode about a student that is continuing/completing his high school education after serving in Vietnam.
    I don't remember seeing it.
Does anyone remember it?, and is it uploaded?
My older Brother went to LAHigh during the years this was being filmed, and just missed being drafted. Our entire family was so scared he was going to go....
Thank you very much AJ-B for uploading these!

I remember the episode but the name of it escapes me. The guy quit school and joined the forces.
I don't think they mentioned Vietnam, not sure if he had seen combat or not. He wasn't screwed
up in any noticeable way, but he didn't fit in because times had changed since he was last in school
and he was older than all the other students. Hope this helps
