Here in Australia, we can't have a truck gun:
1. We aren't allowed a semi auto;
2. Rifles must be carried in a locked case and only carried directly to or from a range of hunting area;
3. Ammo must be locked in a separate container (not the glove box)
4. If you don't obey the mask mandates and other government edicts you risk losing your longarm licence for not being a "fit and proper person"
5. Longarms are registered so the government knows where to come and take them.
Just saying. I hope you value the 2A. Defend it. You are the "light on the hill".
Oh trust me that Joe Biden and his cronies are trying very hard, but us true patriots will fight to the very end!!!!! May God Bless this Republic!!!!
You guys are fucked. Probably going to be the next North Korea.
Sorry to hear that (Ian W) it's getting bad over here as well. There are too many weak minded people that are trying to take away are rights here in the states.
That’s horrible! Too much government power

Having a gun stolen from my car was always a concern but now that I drive a Prius, it’s no longer a concern cause nobody is breaking into a Prius to look for guns 😂😂😂
And if you do...it's probibly a glock single stack
That’s a good front lol
Yeah, they're only breaking in looking for designer skinny jeans, but would be happy to find the rifle nonetheless.

I miss the days when we could keep our rifles in window racks even in our highschool parking lots while in class.
Now days it would be a quick window smash and grab! Me and a couple friends of mine would always carry are guns in the truck to high school in ‘72-73 so as soon as we got out, we were on are way to dove, quail or duck hunting or the strip pits for target practice. Several folks had them displayed in the rear window gun rack as you stated! Sad days now!
I remember those days well. They were good times!👍😎

@@garythornbury9793 I used to be the same way but they do make etched reticle scopes that take batteries but work the same as a regular scope without batteries but do light up when turned on which helps in low light and other situations where a standard black reticle is difficult to pick up. With the power off you have the standard black reticle so you get the best of both worlds.
I'm a contractor and a gun builder. I'm very selective about anything that goes in or on my gun. I carry an 11.5 with a rugged shake awake ranging dot on top. 30/30 is no joke. Better than nothing and superior to many other rounds you could have choose.
Shot placement is what matters anyway.
Nothing wrong with that. Roll with my great grandfather's 32 Winchester special as my second truck gun along with my primary truck gun during hunting season, along with the bolt gun
Lever action 30-30 is one of my bucket list guns🤙🏽

Good info! I carry the Glock 20 10mm and I have the TNW aero survival rifle in 10mm. The rifle takes glock magazines. If your thinking it's only a 10mm.... look at the velocities of the Underwood Penetrator rounds thru a 16" rifle barrel. 1 ammo and 2 cohesive platforms because of the magazines!
Chadd, Thank you very much for what you do, I learn a lot and you help keep us motivated. Current truck gun is a pistol caliber carbine in 9mm.
I've carried truck guns (also trunk guns) since as long as I could remember. I have had a Keltec SU-16CA that folds in half to about 25". I've stored it under my seats in my trucks and in the trunk of my cars. Right now, it is in a molle bag hanging from the back of my passenger front seat. I live in CA and never had an issue doing this. It saved me twice in the same night back in 1992 when I was just a few miles from where the LA Riots started. Some gangbangers were approaching me just as I was taking it out in order to drive home. They stopped when they saw me unfold it and drop a 30-round mag in it, then they went the other way. The second was a couple of blocks away when a car blocked the intersection just before the freeway. There were three guys in there. They started pointing at me and walking my way. Even though I was the first car in the lane, I was blocked on either side. I wanted to go straight to get on the freeway. I didn't think they would be able to tell that I was pointing a rifle at them, so I held it up so they could see it from the side. They stopped, but just stood there. I put the barrel out of the window, turned slightly right to go around their vehicle, and barely got by them before getting onto the on ramp. Needless to say, I quit that job and have hated Los Angeles ever since.
Thats odd you had a SU-16A variant in 92. Since they didn't start producing guns till 95
@@Icybones000 True. And the SU-16CA came about in the early 2000s. I had a Mini-14 with a folding stock prior to that. I thought I wrote that in there, but I guess I didn't.
I carry a Glock 9 mm in my front pocket and a Kel Tec Sub 2000 Glock mag compatible in a CamelBak I carry daily also.
I was in San Diego when that wet down. I kept my Wife home from work for fear of what you experienced. That day is probably in my top ten life experiences for sure. I always carry my Glock but now it makes since keeping my AR-15 in the car.

Love this! I got stopped the other day by an officer. Went through my truck and went town on me…”Why do I have a rifle in my truck?” “Why I had so many mags” I only had three for my pistol, including the one in and three for my rifle not including one in it. “Are you some kind of survivalist?!” When he went through my go bag…. I’m a complete supporter of law enforcement but man it really rubbed me the wrong way. I do live in the woods and I do want to be prepared at ALL times for myself and anyone else. Great advice. The Ruger 556 and the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport are excellent entry-level rifles that serve this purpose well.
Entry level? Guy, if you're spending more than that, you're just wasting your money. You will never encounter a situation that exceeds the capabilities of those two firearms.

I am 2 years old and this is by far the best speech and advice I ever heard in years
I just wanted to add that an optic with an etched reticle might be a way to go instead of iron sights since you can still function well without a battery. That will drive your cost up but it’s something to consider.
The primary arms cyclops gen 2 runs about $280, has great clear glass, an etched version of the awesome ACSS reticle which has a bunch of little ranging features that serve double duty as precision holdovers for various close shots (5yd/10yd/15yd all fall on an easily recognizable piece of the reticle), it gets 33k hours of battery life on a setting that’s bright enough to see on a white background with a white light shining on it, yet doesn’t starburst into unusable glare in total darkness. It has auto off/ shake awake, and it fits mini ACOG quick detach mounts such as from ADM. For $300-$400 depending on if you go for the mount or not, it’s a phenomenal bargain, and I sometimes find myself putting it on my “nice” rifles because I just really really love it. That said, I always run a fixed front sight and a rear sight that’s fixed or folding depending on what I have laying around. Even with a fixed rear, the sights still only go to a lower 1/3 cowitness and don’t impede your use of the optic, but if something happened you could rip that thing off (one could say you could detach it, quickly), and use the proper irons. A set of good irons is more than capable, but I always find that a single point of aim, IE a dot, etched or otherwise, is just faster and more accurate. Great video and great info.
Another consideration for a truck gun that I’ve messed with is a pistol light on the support hand side; it’s easily turned on with the thumb, and something like the surefire x300 turbo now is putting out high candela that lets you get quite a bit of range while being extremely rugged. That being said, this is kind of an idea for someone who may already have one of these style pistol lights sitting around and is contemplating building a truck gun. Buying one new is coming pretty close to buying a full blown duty grade rifle optic in price ( they’re a hair over $300 when I see them - if buying new? Consider a surefire TLR-1 for half the money, but also much less performance).
Again, real cool content and good ideas.
Good stuff, I always think about theft and a high end truck gun. My truck gun is a lever action to mitigate this without buying a new rifle. Shit is tight right now and feeding family and animals is priority.
I hear you !!
LOL nowadays lever-action rifles ARE high end gun!
But yes they are awesome for purposes such as this (just like on horseback) because they are short, relatively light, and handy!
I'm so glad that I already owned a couple before they became more scarce and went up in price so rapidly these last few years
You pull out a lever gun and no how to use it I’m not messing with you
I used to carry my Marlin 1894 .357 with a 2.5x scout scope. It’s now impossible to replace and worth quite a bit, a safe queen now
Absolutely right my friend. I can’t afford a 900 dollar rifle to keep in my truck. I got better things to spend my money on. My Marlin 336 is good for me
Sweet and simple always works. I also like a PCC in 9mm or .45acp in the car/truck, just in case.
just in case what? you encounter something you can't solve with a pistol? in which case, you need a rifle, not a pcc. truck guns are an incredibly stupid idea. what is the purpose of leaving the gun in your truck? just take it inside when you get home. pcc are a scam. carry a proper compact or full size pistol, and then have a rifle stowed in your vehicle whenever you leave your house. take the rifle with you into your house.
@@cagneybillingsley2165 good observation. I'm still debating if I should keep my pcc or get rid of it to get a better handgun that I really like. I shoot handguns well so I wonder if a pcc is is really necessary. Like you said, an argument could be made that if a pistol can't get you out of trouble then you need a rifle. Otherwise pcc's are really fun and have more capacity but still, I have a shotgun too which has more power than a damn pcc, and so I keep wondering.
@@cagneybillingsley2165 an sbr with a foldable stock solves all those issues. Take it in the house inside of your backpack. Always keep a low profile.
A pcc isn’t a scam. One of the main reasons of having a long gun in the truck is being able to engage more comfortably at range and most of these calibers are accurate up to 200 yards. Granted storing a gun in your vehicle could be thought of as I’ll advised and variables should be considered before doing so but it could be a viable option.
@@AllThingsLoud_ yea I don’t see anything scammy about them except perhaps the price. In that you’d expect them to be cheaper than an AR 🤷🏽♂️
But yea it’s personal preference it’s the same reason some people prefer 9mm over 45. Comfortable and minimal recoil is nice...plus you have more rounds than handguns w normal sized mags
Shotguns tend to be on the less expensive side while being highly effective. Though their capacity is less, you'll probably end the fight quicker with one. Keep some buckshot for anti-personnel or normal size animals. Keep some slugs on hand in case there are angry bear or vicious Sasquatches around. ;) The slugs can also come in handy for longer range shots.
Also Opsol adapter for mini shells for added capacity. Changed my 7+1 to 12+1 shots of #4 buck
Even an inexpensive breach single shot shotgun is handy for a "truck" as a breaching tool device.

No question your logic is spot on regarding a truck weapon. I want to follow exactly but can’t get over the cost issue; fear of losing it to the local night shoppers out here in rural GA. Trying to convince myself that I would bring a backpack in every night holding one of those folding blasters. Very much agree the CCW main purpose is to get you back to your rifle. Thanks for the content.
I have also though about this, bring a pack back in after coming home every day seems like the only option. I don't like leaving a blaster in a vehicle overnight without being secure. Maybe a long box to lock up but then does the vehicle have the space. I do like the idea of folding pistol carbine or folding ar pistol. Things are getting crazy out there !

I too am a fan of iron sights. Carried the M14 and M16 in Viet Nam. Always had iron sights on my hunting rifles even though they were equipped with scopes. Have you ever noticed that big game Rifles in Africa always have iron sights? They don’t fail when you need them. I’m a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant and was amazed when talking lately to a young Marine to find out that in boot camp they use ACOG scopes to qualify with their weapon. When I ask him about battle zeroing his iron sights he had no clue what I was talking about. Heaven help them if the ACOG fails!
Basic Rifle Marksmanship doesn't exist in our military anymore. These days all that's required is to be able to point the muzzle and spew lead. Not enough "tech" in iron sights for the GEN Y & Z'ers.
You can run the cable of the truck pistols locking cases through the mag well and ejection port.

I carry a G3C, I've been thinking of just keeping an MCK conversion kit in the car.
After some practice with it, it does everything I would want a rifle to do in an emergency. Super accurate, and I really love the idea of only having to worry about 1 type of ammo and 1 type of magazine for both.
Most people normally only carry 1 extra magazine, tops. This way I can keep 5 or 6 magazines in my car and I have that much ammo in rifle mode, but I also have that much ammo for my carry pistol.
So this setup would add lots of mags to my carry when I'm around my car, and it would add scope, accuracy and distance to my carry if I convert it at the car, and I can still use all the ammo for both.
You can also run +P for a little extra oomph. I don't know how much it actually helps, but you are getting about 10% higher pressure and an increase in speed, so it's at least a little more power than a regular 9mm

I recommend a ruger mini 14 with the short barrel. Very sturdy, fast handling, crazy reliable. A great grab and go gun. Way better than an AR for this purpose. Not a lot of stuff sticking out everywhere, won't catch on anything.
Waaaaaaaaaay to long and not collapsible
Good points. I tend to run a higher end with bells and whistles but then I don't rock a "truck gun" unless I'm specifically traveling or headed to the mountains.
Around here the places you'd be most likely to have someone break in and steal the rifle are exactly the places that would come after you legally, or try to. They'd also be the kind of places to go after you if you used a rifle like this. As such, it's mostly not worth carrying one as a daily thing and I reserve having one for specific excursions.
For slings snagging on things I find rubber bands to be a good option. They keep the sling snug to the rifle so it won't get caught on things in the vehicle but if you want to use the sling you can either undo the bands or just slide in a finger and pull on the sling, breaking the bands.
I carry a M&P 15 in mine. I live on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I have found that taking it out and cleaning and oiling the crap out of it about every other month is a must. I’m also looking at a locking mount to keep it secured when I’m away from the vehicle. Great Video sir!

Looking for Daniel Defense home and a Colt or Fn or
Something for truck. I too roll over Georgia mountain back roads. Never owned one but since Colt's changes i am looking at several other brands as well. Anyway that's it from here my friend! Buz...and I always enjoy your videos so thank you!
Great video. I like the fixed A1 stock for many of the same reasons that you like iron sights. No need to mess with it it’s always ready. Even though A1 stock is bigger it’s also slick less to catch etc.
Judging by the comments I seem to be in the minority here but I prefer my Mossberg shockwave as my truck gun. Appreciate you sharing your experience and your service
Great choice. What do you run in it? Slugs or buckshot?
@@PD-we8vf slugs for little more range but also carry 00 buck
It's not what I chose, but I would think it's a good choice
Your not the only one! I have one in my truck as well.
For those of us who have outlived our 20/20 vision, a shotgun is probably a good choice. Can you run a brace on the shockwave, or has that time passed?
1st thing i want to say is thank you for your services. Hats off with the highest respect.
I thaught a long time about getting a truck gun because ya just never know.
Im in the woods as well and go to town often. I normaly carry a glock 19 gen 3. I found the perfect carbine for me and thats the ruger pc 9mm carbine whick as we all know will take glock 9mm magazines.
I keep my AR 15 M4 at home in my bedroom most of the time when i lay down for the night. I love how the ruger carbine breaks down so i can stash and hide it when im not in my truck.
Simple is good - only thing I would change for my setup is I would swap out the irons for a 1-4 with an illuminated dot. I like having the dot but the scope is still usable if the batteries die.
Thank you for the great content and addressing a "truck gun". The truck gun has been a rabbit hole item for a while. I never considered cost before, however that is a very valid concern and I value the iron sight as a "keep it simple" option. I would like your opinion on a shorter barrel for maneuverability inside the vehicle. Thanks again
Too funny . My setup is almost identical. I'm using Colt LE6921 14.5 With Pinned F.H. I'm using Vortex Prism Optic . I figured why not have an etched reticle. I have Strealight TLR1HL and Proctor Sling . I run 3 mags in my Truck gun KIT.
I run the Vortex Spitfire on a couple of my primary ARs. The etched reticle is a really nice feature.
@@rogerknight2267 For sure . I'm old school so Triji ACOG was my go too for a very long time. Now PA SLX G2 1× ACSS Micro Prism is my go too . I really do not use red dots anymore for ARs . Ever since PA Micro PRISM came out i was sold . Triji TA45 ACOG 1.5×24 is my favorite all time PRISM . Sucks they are damn near 1k with ADM QD Mount ..
Finally somebody that believes in the iron sights like I do the only time I want optics is thermal night, vision for coyotes and hogs
I don't carry a truck gun yet just an every day carry pistol but if we get to the point where I think I need one it will likely be a simple setup as you described. As of right now the way I see it the downside of having it stolen slightly outweighs the up side of having a long gun just in case. If the odds go up that a long gun might be needed that will change but in most cases shit is over by the time you would be able to grab your long gun. I did carry one during the Ferguson riot period when living in St. louis county though.
You’re a brave soul telling folks what’s in your truck. Hopefully you don’t lose it.

Hey! Man that's a pretty good idea! I can't believe I've never thought about that.
..and that will prevent it from getting stolen?
Good stuff brother. I carry a PSA premium FN barreled upper on a spikes tactical lower with Giessele trigger and carry handle sights. Pretty much same truck and same style rifle. Thanks for your service. Keep the vids coming.
Why
@@wango556, because he wants to.
I agree with your rational. I have a different setup because I assembled a truck gun with spare parts I've had for years.
For example I have aim point comp M2 in a Larue mount I've had for almost 20 years, LMT fixed sights I'd never use, and I have an old surefire m600 scout that has a much lower output than they are now.
Lastly I keep USGI mags in the truck since they won't degrade over time.
Always a S&W .45 in the Silverado....now, thinking about carrying the spare .223 after watching this. Thanks for the vid and your service to this great nation of ours.
You're pretty smart for a sailor, I run almost the exact same weapon, I just prefer the Colt A3's that I grew up with in the early 80s Marine Corps. Always shot expert from 200, 300 and 500 meters with iron sights (what's an ACOG?) Longer barrel, increased velocity, and longer sight radius makes a big difference with our longer shots and having to dope the always present wind out here in the West. Good advice and a pretty good channel so far. Keep up the good work, sailor.
You hit at 500 because that B-mod black is 20” wide by 40” tall. That’s a big damn stationary target. When we moved to the RCO (ACOG) and 14.5” barrels, Marines routinely hit 10/10 shots at the 500.
Unheard of scores for the POG non-grunt masses in the iron sights days. Optics make the rifleman more lethal, by increasing hit rate and accuracy potential. There ain’t no fighting it brother, Semper Fi.
(Edited to add that backup irons are always required, and 20” is a big damn stick for a vehicle gun - 16” hits just about as hard and can be had in dissipator length full rifle sight radius.
Check out BallisticsByTheInch for some hard data on what .223 or 5.56 NATO does and doesn’t do from longer barrels. It may surprise you to see the diminishing returns after 16-18”.
M16 A3 wasn’t around in the 80’s - that’s a flattop receiver that lacks a built-in carry handle. M16 A2 came in around the early to mid 80’s. If your rear sight required a tool for adjustment, then you had a M16A1 and not an A2 or A3.
Too bad your busy eating crayons with your M3 lmao we all know marines have the lowest asvab looooooooooooolllll an acog is such old tech u sound dumb saying it
I always think the same thing. KD ranges are good for basic marksmanship, but not good for actual combat shooting. The ACOG was a game changer. @@theaccount628
As much as I love a red dot. For something like this I use a low power variable optic. The primary arms ones run about $300 so not very expensive, and they have an etched reticle if your batteries go out. Then you have something close to a red dot, some zoom too. Not quite as durable as the fixed irons but I’d say it’s tough enough for some light tossing around.
Holo suns aren’t bad on price point. The solar panel and the shake awake system it has is why I love them. Let’s be honest. Things happen in milliseconds.
Taking time to turn an optic on if you’re truly in the shit is a liability.
Exactly
Good choice I like the idea of a folder and the power of a 308 or something equivalent under 200 yards this is why I went with a under folder 7.62x39 it does the job
Bren 2 folder with x39
Great points. I agree. Straight up iron sights are the best, especially in this situation. I’ve put two 5.56 rounds through the same hole at 50yards, with the third only an eighth to a quarter inch away. We’re good with that. 😉I do keep a red dot on mine with lots of extra batteries around, but will ditch that in a heartbeat and go to the irons when required; without hesitation. Batteries are my nemesis, I don’t rely on them ever. The flashlight is a great asset at night in real life. In general, I think you’re right. Don’t keep anything expensive in your vehicle. Be prepared, but be prepared to lose that weapon, until you fight your way back to your primary. Great content, keep it coming.
I keep a sling on my truck gun. I use two velcro staps on it so I can deploy it when I need it. I strap the body of the sling over the left side so it is out of the way of of the trigger ejection port charging handle and forward assist so if I need it quick I can still fire it without inducing a malfunction.
I think your front driver side rim is missing a lug nut. At least on the video it looks that way.
I just picked up an Anderson Manufacturing AR for my car. They are made in KY, forged aluminum receiver. Really great value for $600. And you can even pick them up used for less.
I would still be a little bummed if I had a Colt stolen, so I went that route.
For me personally, if I need the range of a rifle and I am in/close to my vehicle, I am using my vehicle to get out of there. I can see this being the best option for 90% of scenarios.
You're right. It is the best option to save your own life. On the other hand if you want to stop someone who can take out a lot of people.... Well that's a different situation. I personally don't like the idea of someone breaking into my vehicle, and taking a firearm that can then be used for crime.
PSA AKV with triangle folding brace. I am also back and forth about a sling, but as of now I do opt for a standard AK sling. It just works. The gun is 19” folded and can be deployed quickly. 35 round mags of 9mm. I would prefer a rifle round, but this should get me out of most tight spots here in Ga. Iron sights for me as well. Thanks for your great videos
I carry a Ninja hood , a butterfly knife and a couple throwing stars in my Carolina squatted truck .
Kidding aside Great video's , keep it up .
Solid choice and solid reasoning for that choice(s).
The only thing I was left wondering was, ammo/mags. How many on hand and how to keep it available? I realize that I might be over thinking this a bit; probably doesn't need to be more complicated than a loaded spare in the console or something..... 😁
Thanks for the vid. 👍🏻
The Ruger 556 and the S&W MP15 Sport 2 are some the best vehicle carry carbines. Reliable, accurate, at affordable prices points.
I agree with the sling mine is always getting hung up I also agree with leaving an expensive rifle in my truck. I’m going to look into a nice colt. I’ve just gotten into ARs again and it’s been fun. Thanks for the content
I've got a PSA with iron sights, same reason. It stays in my truck, gets knocked around, and endures hot and cold weather. I'm adding a flashlight now that I saw this. - Thanks.
Chad, that long foregrip seems like it would be a snag hazard or obstruction. What are your thoughts / have you ever had issues with it getting in the way?
He didn’t respond after 4 weeks, so maybe Chadd ain’t reading these?
Great video brother, love it. I am guilty of not carrying a truck gun. I know that I should especially because I live in a country setting as well, think I will start doing so.
I definitely do. I always have a 9 on my waste, and and MCK/Glock 19 combination within arms reach. Magazine compatibility really makes me feel more comfortable as well.

I def appreciate this video and thought you put into your choices. I use to share the same concern and ran a cheap AK on me, but in time I realized I didn’t want to fight with that gun. Also I spend at least as much or more time away from my home then do at my home due to work and time spent shopping and eating out. I finally concluded I wanted to have a setup with me that I fully trusted for any task and would want to use for battle or any situation. While the financial sting would hurt if stolen, the sting of needing my fully kitted out nice rifle and not having it would be worse. Also I’ve done the most training with certain guns with dots and slings so that’s how I prefer to have all mine.
Great points. After watching this video i removed a long gun that i would cry over and replaced it with one of my fixed carry handle bushmasters. I also removed the sling. Thanks.
nice simple concept, i like how you pointed out the price, how frequently would you drag out the colt and run a swab down the barrel ? and clean the working parts as i know my truck gets dusty as hell in there ..
Good selection and almost exactly what I run. I've got a cheaper foregrip, I left the front hand guard as factory and put a small rail to it for my light and I have bushmaster instead of Colt otherwise an identical setup. Having said that if I had a M1A in carbine length that's likely what I'd run just because as familiar as I am with the AR platforms, when I was in the fleet we were still using the M14 for most everything to do with a rifle. It stayed that way til just a couple years before I got out. The only time I wouldn't change for a carbine M1A is my patrol rifle for work and that's because we've all got ARs, so magazines interchange but I still like the 308. My patrol rifle is a bit more set up though too. Great video
As far as slings go, what if you kept a sling separately from the gun itself? For the scenarios of feces hitting the oscillator, a sling would be pretty useful imo.
I keep one in the door pocket. I use QD attachments so it only takes a few seconds to put it on the gun. I experimented with leaving it attached at the front and tying it around the handguard, but I found that it’s quicker to just leave it off and reattach it when needed than it is to untie it.
Just use a sling keeper
My truck gun is a 300 black out with 14.5 barrel hand stop and flashlight basic iron sights. Your a smart man
I got a ranch truck and it is clean. Keep your vehicle clean so you can find things when you need it like a medic kit.
New subscriber , really enjoying the content well done sir 🇺🇸
I’m from Mississippi but watching from overseas at work which gives me plenty of time to plan for things when I’m back at home.
Never leave yourself in a position where someone can steal your gun. If you think its absolutely necessary to have a truck gun, commit to carrying with you, or in a backpack. If you leave your vehicle, your weapon comes with you.
Why?
Personally, I never want one of my firearms easily accessible and unattended in a public space. You never know who cam steal it and what it might he used for if that happens.
If you live in the country you're far less likely to run into this issue, but I'd still feel sketchy about it.
Yeah “no skin off your back” until it shows up in a crime that you provided. People should keep good accountability of their weapons.
Exactly. No skin off my back is a terrible take. Now you’ve got some tweeker with a loaded M4 and we wonder why there is another mass shooting 😖
@@ItspronouncedAaron you mean like the FBI funneling guns to tweekers dipshi...moron
$900.00 is a lot for many veterans and people. Going to the range cost much more nowadays and ammo in city life.
Thanks for the different things to consider. Did you already make a video for set ups to be able to have in a commuter bag in case we don’t want to leave it in the vehicle?
My truck gun is a 7.5" barrel AR15 "braced" pistol...loaded at all times with 30 rd mag. Since it's considered a pistol (for now) it doesn't need to be unloaded or cased like a long gun IF you have a CCW.
I carry the same rifle. I’ve had it for 10 years and I love that gun. My first pistol was a colt 45, when I was 15. I know there’s better rifles out there but I’m more familiar with that weapon than any of the other M4s and that’s why Ilove it.
I get the decision to skip the sling in the truck, too much to get hung on when deploying. However, I personally would HAVE a QD sling in the truck, so if I needed to take it on the leather I could sling the rifle.
Having a long gun in the vehicle has always been a thing where I live. It’s like 4wd, better to have and not need than need and not have.
Won't do you any good where you live. It's only really useful in a city, like during a riot road block but it's illegal there.
@@newlifelodgeuntil they get stuck and have to hike to get help. Might be handy to have a rifle for predators..
I would really like to hear how you secure this rifle when you are not in the truck. Car thefts and break-ins happen, and I certainly don't want to give a criminal another firearm! Also, if you often have a bunch of stuff rolling around in your truck, eventually something WILL get stuck in or around your rifle. Very bad plan, there.
It varies with the territory. I would not be as concerned in a rural environment. He said in another post that he hated going to the city.
I work for myself so I'm able to constantly be armed. Most people won't have that luxury. Being I wear a holster that's my fastest go to. Having a cheap but reliable rifle stashed in a vehicle is my plan b. People wonder why I wear my gun in the house. The gun doesn't annoy me for the most part but one thing that is more annoying is taking it off and on and putting it in and out of the safe constantly. Kinda defeats the purpose of having it. Having a pistol thats somewhere in a vehicle is better than nothing but slows you down. Then you have the risk of someone else getting there hands on it. If your gun is secure in you car put it on as soon as you get back to the car. Wear it while traveling and going in stores. People have arrived home to find criminals in the house. If you left a gun unsecure in there you could very well be shot with your own weapon. That would really suck.
Maybe I need to rethink gun lights on more weapons. I've always felt that gave away your position and gave someone else something to aim at but I guess it really is better to have and not need or use than to need and not have.
It had a button. If you don’t want to give away your position, don’t press the button. Also, it’s primarily for animals. A light will freeze a coyote for a second and without it you would have no chance at night.
@@PD-we8vf you are absolutely correct, I have lights on varmint hunting rifles just always been on the fence about lights on handguns /protection weapons.

i agree with you on the sling. if i need a rifle in my hands, its staying in my hands until its time to put it down or put it away. im not hiking with this thing, im not climbing with this thing, im not rappelling with this thing, or climbing ladders. ill throw it down and leave it if i have to, has anyone tried grappeling with a slung weapon? i have slings if i need them. but i dont keep one on my rifle.
Truck guns are impractical for most of the country. I live in New England and it wouldn't last 2 days. Imagine running out to Home Depot then the grocery store all the while leaving an ar15 locked in the car. I don't think so.
