I absolutely LOVE that you call it a rifle and not a pistol. Thank you. I will never understand why it is classified as a handgun/pistol. LOOK AT IT! It does not look like a handgun. AT ALL.
The 5 I needed in oif was sights, light, sling, laser and 203. As a private citizen is slights, sling, sights, mags and ammo. A scope or red dot is optional.
That will require a "AFT" extortion fee of $200.00.....please. And for just a "Few Dollars More" you can have a larger signature on the "AFT's" radar by adding a can to it!
I went out and bought a 11.5 in AR pistol after watching this, and ordered a Holosun AEMS optic for it. I like that the Holosun can run in daylight off the solar panel on it, even if the battery is dead.
Informative and well explained. I had Blue Force Gear slings but have switched to Edgar Sherman slings. They adjust quickly, with ease, they're low profile, light, and they're reasonable.
I am in the process of setting up my new SOLGW (Sons of Liberty Gun Works) 16" barrel M4 Legacy 5.56 MILSPEC furniture FSB (Forged Front Sight Base) with LFT (Liberty Fighting Trigger.) So far I bought the Magpul R44 hard case so I can take it to the range since I do not have a large enough plot of land in the suburbs where I live to go shooting on. I installed a Magpul MOE M-LOK handguard, AFG (angled fore grip,) MS-1 padded sling and hardware, injection molded polymer bipod as well. I am not familiar with weapon lights and optics enough to pick them yet so I am researching those. I have been working my way through Mrgunsngear content among others and found your channel. Good stuff. Thanks for all that you are doing to share your experience and knowledge. I was a superleg in 1st COSCOM at Ft Bragg back in the 90s. Nothing special, just a wheeled vehicle repairer, 3rd shop.
Ya, I watched the GBRS sling presentation. That’s a big game changer. In the regular Army INF , we started with no sling. It’s both hands on your weapon at all times. Then when assigned to string constantine wire, you’d work with one hand. Guys would forget and walk off about 10 feet from a their weapon. The machine guns, on road marches with no sling. Eh. That lasted for about 3 months, at my first duty station. Same with night vision.
I agree with most of this but prefer a 1x or 2x prism, if the batteries go down it still works, rugged and simple. I also prefer a hand stop over an afg.
@@LukeLegereThey scratch the cross hair, horse shoe, or chevron on a triagle( prism ) piece of glass. Just seems like flip up offset sights might add a little extra time in the event your red dot goes down at a bad time. With a red dot or holographic, I prefer flip ups up top. Also can use a magnifier because my eyes are a little old. In the event of no more batteries, I'd much rather have irons up top. Thinking of building a 11.5" with an Elcan 1-4 with an offset RMR.
Old comment.. I originally had pop up co-witness sights on the top, that is until I thought what if the sight glass was cracked or something.. I had the 45% sights on my nv rifle and thought having them on my others just made sense
I'm new to guns and looking to buy this one but can't find the exact model online. I looked at buds gunshop and couldn't find it. I know it's a MK 18 but alot pops up and idk which one it is, if any. Is it a certain model of mk18?
Excellent clip Chad…big fan of DD, great barrel and BCG and those are the two more important components on any rifle..bolt (action) or gas.. IMHO, Steiner makes a reflex sight, and it’s a TANK, as I still use Steiner products..iron sights it’s Midwest industries or KA..as for slings, too each is whom, I’ve dragged heavy bolt rifles from AI to SAKO and with the proper sling you can forget it’s on your back at times..and it’s why I’m a huge fan of Armageddon gear or Blue Force battle sling..Warrior Poet Society makes a good sling , it’s what I’ve heard. What I’m not a fan of is the single point attachment , in a real world ZOMBIE ATTACK where moving fast is crucial for survival it will restrict your movement and transition, but it looks cool with your buddies at the range…just saying
Remember if you’re running suppressed it’ll make the gun dirty significantly faster than running it unsuppressed. Cleaning/oiling intervals would have to be relearned if you want to retain reliability.
i totly agree with all you said, and ive always used as a good rule of thumb the same thing. when picking a peice of glass for a platform, i always use a 1:1 ratio in the cost of optic to cost of platform. the 2000 dollar gun is almost worthless if you cant operate it effectively and efficiently
Love it! I really wanted one of these but couldn’t afford so I built something inspired. What are your thoughts on crane upgrading all the mk18’s to an 11.5 barrel for the increased velocity and dwell time? The study I saw said with a suppressor the 11.5” is just as ballistically capable as as a 14.5 M4.
It's a fine choice......10.3" or the current 10.5" is your effective ballistic minimum barrel length for .556. Any options above that are just a personal choice that raise the bar. A 10.3" with a can is the lightest, shortest, effective ballistic minimum! Without a can the flash signature is unmanageable for any device. A QUALITY QD on the can makes this platform the most adaptive. Just Sayin. 😎
Thanks Chadd. A little late to this video and a little late to the battle ready concept. Over 50 years ago I was issued a no frills M16A1 with iron sights only. Even the foregrip would have been a big improvement on the Mighty Mattel.
I’ve always been a fan of the two point sling, but I’m yet to find one that’s comfortable and functional for me. Most folks have boxes of useless holsters, I have boxes of useless slings.
I have used a fair amount of slings and the best I’ve found that is functional and I used in Afghanistan is the Viking tactics sling. The padded one, has super fast adjustments to cinch to body and loosen to get the gun back up and ready.

Why do you keep calling your AR pistol an SBR? Are you trying to get the alphabits to raid your place or do you have it registered and if you do what is the benefit of having a pistol brace over having a stock? From what I have seen braces are too flexible to have any real benefit.
@@bcj575 if that was the case it would have a stock not a pistol brace. Also while it might be a Daniel Defense product it is extremely unlikely that it is a select fire DD MK18 because Daniel Defense started in 2001 making it 15 years too late to be a transferable machine gun and the only way for him to buy one would be if he had a special dealer permit with a bunch of paperwork. Of course if he has a special manufacturer permit which allows him to convert a semi auto rifle or pistol into a machine gun that would cover it but again it requires a lot of money and a lot of paperwork. That then brings back up the question of why use a pistol brace on a rifle. Now if he is waiting for the registration to come back before putting a stock on it I understand otherwise it does not make sense. However he could just be purposely poking a proverbial hornets nest by calling the pistol an sbr. Keep in mind that I fully believe that the government should not be able to have a say and it should not matter because "Shall not be infringed" means exactly that not big brother can limit our rights as long as they come up with a random bs excuse. I would also like to point out that when I asked about it a year ago I realized that whether or not it was registered is none of my business but I was curious what possible benefits the pistol brace provided from a Navy Seal point of view when I as a civilian have found them to be pointless when compared to a stock.
Calling it a rifle in going to get the ATF looking for their SBR tax stamp. Sir, you are far more qualified to talk about weapons than I am. So, in all humiliation, I'm asking: Is that an SBR or a AR pistol? The ATF used RUclips to show people shouldering a pistol brace to try and ban pistol braces (outcome pending).
@@AcidTrvp it’s the words he’s using, not the actual facts that matter. This is a deep state Government agency, after all. Not to be trusted to consider things logically.
Invest in the sight you want. Gun's don't lose value so you can always upgrade or sell the weapon and not lose money. Sight's on the other hand lose value, so invest in the sight then upgrade the weapon around it or buy a better weapon for that high dollar sight. My best advice

Keeping it simple is the best way to do it and keep it for sure. With everything on the market anyone can quickly drop thousands on accessories that end up being kept on a shelf. Understanding the most likely way that your firearms would be used is the first step in my opinion. Sure those 1-6 or 1-8 MRAD scopes would be sexy looking and you can use that zoom to see the smile on someone’s face or read a street sign but reality most likely calls for a clear true 1x dot or prism. Outside of the rifle the optic needs some love. You want something clear and durable that you can rapidly get on target.

I don't think I've ever done a mag dump and I've been shooting for years!!! This has to change lol
GBRS Second Best Sling - cause the first best sling is having someone else carry your rifle for you! Had to get one just for that (good sling too)! Excellent; thank!
I've been watching your videos today and I've been a bit down in an emotional state from a recent bad night. Your videos are motivating me to get up and do something today. So I'm going to keep working on losing weight. I've needed this inspiration and you tell stories so well
Thank you for motivating me
I absolutely LOVE that you call it a rifle and not a pistol. Thank you. I will never understand why it is classified as a handgun/pistol. LOOK AT IT! It does not look like a handgun. AT ALL.
Because the ATF are retarded and should be abolished.
I disagree. We don't want the responsibility of registering a weapon as a "short barrel rifle." It's a pistol.
The 5 I needed in oif was sights, light, sling, laser and 203.
As a private citizen is slights, sling, sights, mags and ammo. A scope or red dot is optional.
This made me buy a UH-1 and I absolutley love it!
I can't argue your top 5 but I would start by swapping out the brace for a stock.
Hey man thanks for your service and thanks for the video tremendously helpful peace
Thank you. I knew noth when I started the video, I feel like I learned a bit.
Keep this up Chad your channel is going to grow very fast with your knowledge. God bless brother.
I'm a Commando. Hes a Fraud. Seals never issued that weapon
Cap
first a long history of regret, reliable, and Accuracy on battlefields !!!
Watched a couple of your videos today great content and very informative. Thank you for your service!
Just built my DD Mk18 and kept your 5 points in mind!
Crazy...
I agree with most of this but prefer a 1x or 2x prism, if the batteries go down it still works, rugged and simple. I also prefer a hand stop over an afg.
How does it still work without batteries? Serious question, I’m new to optics and want to get one for my first AR
@@LukeLegere the illumination lights up all or part of the reticle but they have an etched reticle in the glass
@@LukeLegereThey scratch the cross hair, horse shoe, or chevron on a triagle( prism ) piece of glass.
Trijicon ACOG use fiber optic to light the reticle ( no batteries) $1,000- $2,000
Primary Arms makes a few different power prism scopes/optics for $250-$400. They take a small battery.
Both options have a black reticle/cross hair with out the battery/ fiber optic as a light source.
very informative from a seasoned pro, thank you for the vid! going to buy a mp 15 sport III today and going to add 3 attachments, sling, foregrip, and iron sights
Magpul MS4 is a nice sling. You can swap between single and 2 pt. Others make similar slings but that’s what I go with.
They’re decent. I run one and and it’s very nice for an entry level. Not to thick or wide but strong and comfortable for short term use. If you’re planning on doing a class or something add padding or get a nice padded offering for comfort.
I've always kinda liked blue force that's what Im running right now
I have a very similar setup and your philosophy is right on.
I love when I discover that my weapon DID meet all of the recommendations of the professional.
Yessir
Reminds me of a modern day version of the CAR-15 that the SEALs and Green Berets used in MACV-SOG in Nam. They loved that nimble commando size.
Colt , DD or LMT MK18 are classic fighting Carbines. I've had Colt MK18 in my collection since 2008.
Nice video bro
FN??
@@11binfantryfollowmeus.army95 LOL . I've never seen FNMI MK18 . Ive only seen Colts , LMTs and DD . Of course this is not saying much because I'm not Mil . I'd love to see FNMI MK18 . That would be bad ass
Thanks for taking the time!
If you survive the first wave alot of the upgrades will be available via battlefield pickup
You can walk out there and look for better stuff, I will not. Snipers.
@@johnlogan1179 don't know if you've been in battle but at some point people eat sleep and piss. Also if you're in a defensive position and have body's close at some point you have to get rid of them otherwise it will spread disease especially if you have outside cooking and eating arrangements
Revisiting as it popped up. For what it's worth the Vickers medic sling was a go to of mine for the last number of years I was in. And still a favorite
Magpul BAD lever is a must.
Just bought my DD baby. I will borrow all the tips here. Thank you
Out of all of my AR builds the mk18 is my favorite to hold and shoot.
18 inch barrel?
@@tesla82111 10.3 barrel
Great little video with a lot of practicality. I especially like the foregrip reasoning (and less likely to get snagged on things imho) and sling attachment (I’m doing something right) I have a very similar rig with the exception of the IR laser; need to change that. Thanks for the great content and thanks for your service.
Thanks for the instructions. Always come away with more by watching your videos!
Sweet setup 👍, pure concentrated lethal in a neat, well put together piece 👌✌️
This was reassuring. I have this exact gun and attachments. I agree - this would be the one gun id grab, everytime
I'm new to guns and looking to buy this one but can't find the exact model online. I looked at buds gunshop and couldn't find it. I know it's a MK 18 but alot pops up and idk which one it is, if any. Is it a certain model of mk18?
Would you consider streamlights a good weapon mounted light? I have stream lights on both of my rifles
Thank you for your service and sacrifice .
I carried the M-16A2 in the Gulf War
I'm an iron sights guy and pretty damn good with them, no batteries needed!
Building a battle weapon based on the potential prospect of a future zombie apocalypse lol
You obviously didn’t pay attention when he was talking about his sling set up.
I prefer the Trijicon ACOG. Just enough magnification, no battery, and bomb proof. Good idea on the back up irons though.
The AFT: “Rifle huh? 🤔😠”
Lol buttstock huh 🤔🤔🤦♂️🤦♂️
Me : “Rifle” Yep !
I'm glad you mentioned the either/or option for single point. Some guys are adamant that it's one or the other. Enjoying your channel!
What’s your opinion on using a silencer on your battle ready rifle? I noticed you didn’t have one attached and I would value your opinion.
Im running mine with a 12.5 and surefire SFMB and its shoots like a dream. Can is in jail
I've been running the TRex sling on 3 rifles so far. Padding where I want it and quick adjust loop can be configured either pull or push to tighten.
I have used a fair amount of slings and the best I’ve found that is functional and I used in Afghanistan is the Viking tactics sling. The padded one, has super fast adjustments to cinch to body and loosen to get the gun back up and ready.
New sub, over from MikeDrop. Appreciate the interview you had with Mike. Just great words. Probably the most honesty I have heard from a man. I have listened to MikeDrop from the start, and I must say that interview straight hit me in the soul. #Grateful
Ditto. I was moved, and inspired, by his simple honesty, and testimonial.
The mk18 setup is phenomenal. But with all due respect, that's not an SBR, that's a pistol with an SB3 brace.
Expertly presented information. One of your best information videos. Thank you.
Technically, isn't that a pistol instead of a SBR?
Yes
Just came across your video's. I really like your 3 and 7 that you got on your You Tube front page. Just outstanding. And again Thank You for your service. You probaly were in the Navy when we were at war... So again Thank You.
Why do you keep calling your AR pistol an SBR? Are you trying to get the alphabits to raid your place or do you have it registered and if you do what is the benefit of having a pistol brace over having a stock? From what I have seen braces are too flexible to have any real benefit.
Bc i think it is an SBR, not a pistol. DD Mk18 is an auto sbr
My go to is a Bravo with 14" FN Barrel/Eotech XPS3-2/Eotech Flip up Magnifier/Attachable Thermal/Troy Backup sights/IR Laser and love the Thermal
He's a former SEAL
that shit doesn't apply to him
AR pistol. You can clearly see the brace.
I like how he has to look at the logos of everything to tell us what they are.
That’s a pistol, not a rifle. Careful with your words. 😎
It’s a rifle. I don’t care what government servants say. Come on man !
🥷cool content and appreciate the education you provide with your experience. Glad to have found the channel, one of our customers suggested we check out the channel.
That's a pistol...
Just helped me decide my optic. Thanks brother
Pistol*
Great video...depending who I listen to and talk to for home defense I go between Mossberg shots and something from DD and like an Aero or Anderson build or the LWRCI DI that has greatness right out of the box in terms of high quality.
Look's like a "Pistol" to me..... just saying!
It’s a rifle.
Definitely a pistol.
It's called a short barreled rifle
Keeping it simple is the best way to do it and keep it for sure. With everything on the market anyone can quickly drop thousands on accessories that end up being kept on a shelf.
Understanding the most likely way that your firearms would be used is the first step in my opinion. Sure those 1-6 or 1-8 MRAD scopes would be sexy looking and you can use that zoom to see the smile on someone’s face or read a street sign but reality most likely calls for a clear true 1x dot or prism. Outside of the rifle the optic needs some love. You want something clear and durable that you can rapidly get on target.
