Bought a chest rig from Hill People years ago to hold water and various items for running. Good quality gear at a good price. Great to see them getting some love.
Many years ago, I had a fanny pack where the concealed compartment was attached by Velcro. That way, all you had to do was grab the front part of the bag and pull it down to get access to the firearm. You could probably speed up your draw and eliminate the time that it takes to grab your orange loops, by adding Velcro on the inside of that back pouch and eliminating the zipper pulls. My bag also had a "rain flap" that covered the opening so you couldn't tell that there was another compartment back there. You could add something like that to cover up the zipper, or even remove it, if you added the Velcro. Also, I absolutely love Hill People Gear's gear. I use one of their chest rigs all the time and keep my backup weapon in it.
Uncle Mike's made some decent pistol specific fanny packs back in the day, in small to large sizes. The pistol/revolver compartment was rip strip velcro.
Thanks Chadd for your service and this channel. From New Jerkistan (NJ) finally getting chance at CCW. I live at beach and wear board shorts a lot. This is an awesome and very discrete option. God bless brother.
I have been experimenting with this almost exact set up. I am trying adhesive Velcro to the grip to keep consistent orientation in the pack. Thank you sir, God bless
We all have different needs and preferences, and I think this is a good example of finding something reasonable and repeatable that works for you and then drilling it until it's both smooth and fast. I think your standard of two seconds seems achievable and well within an acceptable standard for carry, so I look forward to the update on your progress with it! Your accuracy certainly isn't an issue (no surprise given your background)! Love your videos, man!
I love this guy but I am sorry off body carry is not a great idea for EDC. I get he likes elastic band shorts but it is better to sacrifice in your preferred clothing method than off body carry. I respect his opinions but I can’t agree on this one. Granted there are special exceptions to every rule but they should only be utilized when you have to not because they are a more comfortable option.
@@jessebarnett4205 I see a fanny pack as much less of an off body carry than a backpack or CC purse. As long as you arent loading the thing up to storm Kabul, it is designed to stay on the body and remain comfortable all day. Sure, there is a single clip/buckle holding it to the body, but most are designed that is it right above one of the front pockets of the pants, and mostly covered by a slack arm.
@@jessebarnett4205 the internet commando has spoken. @@jessebarnett4205 I've thought about this: If off-body carry for EDC is such a terrible idea, then why do all LEO and military use belts and slings to carry weapons? And if you don't consider a belt with a holster to be off-body, then why consider a belt with a holster in a bag to be off-body?
You could try some heat shrink tubing around your pull loop 550. It would help keep the loops more ridgid and open for easier thumb access. Just an idea. Stay safe.
I have been watching your videos for several weeks now, good stuff. What’s funny is that I have been shopping on line and at stores for a good hip pack to use when my son and I go out on our mountain bikes. Currently I have been keeping it holstered inside the pack I have, not efficient to draw thus the shopping. Thanks for the input, expert opinions mean something.
I have an osprey sling pack I bolted a holster into and have enjoyed it. Doesn’t look tactical and I can carry all the basics talked about in the video.
Another similar option is a small cross-chest "messenger" style tactical bag. Lots of non-CCL folks are using them, especially in urban settings, so they blend in fine and can offer people different placement options and essentially become a chest rig. Plus you can keep them in that position for driving. A few companies are making ones specifically with a dedicated holster pocket (including the trigger guard or a similar system).
@@fitness403 You're welcome! Let us know what you end up getting. Mind you, it's just one facet of carrying that may have limited application depending on your activities and where you live. But if it helps fill a gap, and makes carrying more comfortable and efficient in those situations, win!
I have to laugh, cause I agree 200 %, I don't see "everyday carrying" around the kitchen sink for every possible bla bla. Just the basics and where ever you go the truck is not that far away, so keep it simple.
Used to wear one, transitioned to IWB and cargo shorts. Not much for running anymore, anyway, so it works for me. My oddity is carrying at 6 o'clock to avoid the jelly roll interference with appendix (I'm almost 60) and the difficulty of concealment at 3-5 o'clock. Requires practice, but so does every other option.
This is a great demonstration. Thank you for showing that there is no need to show speed until the fundamentals of drawing the weapon safely are mastered.
Excellent demo! I had hernia surgery on the left side and am also left-handed so inside the waistband was a no-go. A tactical waste bag is an excellent alternative.
The only thing I see that is questionable here, is the amount of sweeping your doing across your weak side hand and arm with a hot weapon in a high stress situation. Props on all the videos. They are greatly appreciated
I also had the same concern. My fix was open fanny pack with the support hand, grasp weapon with the dominate hand, move support hand to chest, draw weapon and begin to drive the weapon toward the threat; last, the support hand moves to catch up. Orientating the Hellcat downward might also be a solution. Any thoughts about the need for two hands to access the weapon? One hand keeping the threat at bay could make single-handed weapon retrieval difficult from a fanny pack. I have considered purchasing a fanny pack/rue/cross-body bag or whatever the younger generation is calling them today. The acronym KISS ones to mind. Great thought and great video.
wow thanks brother for teaching how to actually draw with these things. putting those zippers in the corner I can now access just as quickly as clearing any other garment
Great information. When I was running in ultramarathons and long trail runs I chose not to carry a gun. Only because I really couldn’t find anything that I could hold on my waist like that without it bouncing around going up and down the trails. I did however carry a knife. Fast forward 10 years I now have a 3 L camel pack that I am able to carry one if need be, but it’s not practical to draw from. I’m not able to run any longer unfortunately so I hike and just carry on my hip with a cover garment
I am so glad you made this video. I have had so many guys laugh at me for using a fanny pack to carry my weapon, but it is by far the most convenient and most comfortable especially when I want to carry some other things that women normally carry, but I really like, how you talked about prepping the zippers and putting the different color on and I think I might do something similar to mine as a reminder about quick access. Thanks for the video.
Agree with you, have been carrying this way for about 30 years, 20 as a cop. The waistband carry got really old. Since Tommys packs is out of business I decided to try the Galco fanny pack............turned out to be the best Ive ever carried. The belt to the pack actually stretches and is made of strong neophrene I believe, but is ultra comforatble. Pull the zipper and pack opens up to weapon fully secured by a small holster that actually tilts up so the weapon can be easily drawn. With the other packs and if carrying a stricker fired handgun I would never carry with one in the chamber, with with this pack the weapon trigger area is fully enclosed. Its not cheap but i bought two, a large one for my HK 45C and a smaller one for my G26, You might want to check this pack out, believe you will fall in love with it as I did
I'm very thankful for this video. I hate wearing pants I'm always in shorts. I live in FL and the last thing I will wear is jeans. So I've been in this predicament for a while now. I also can't stand having a lot of things in my pockets.
I carried a fanny pack for years before it was legal, Smith model 65 ss revolver .357. DA. The pack is slow but better than no gun. My cousin said "i bet I can grab that gun before you can" and I said watch out for the knife.
When I lived in L.A., California, I worked for myself out in the field and ALWAYS wore a fanny pack with a 380 in it. It was for my firearm ONLY. One zipper pull from right to left and pull it out with my right hand. I didn't need a trigger guard cause there was nothing in it to interfere with my trigger. I figure my time would be around 1.5 to 2 seconds. Thanx for the video my Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲
I use my fanny pack by 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch Style # 58604 while exercising, and a holster is not a viable option. I can wear it around my waist or cross sling it over the shoulder! Instead, onto my stomach or side of my body because I'm hunched downwards to the bike's handlebar while riding. It's not perfect and may not be the best pouch for you, but it has worked for my G27 for about seven years while doing something active. I think most people will either love it or hate it. Thanks for the video.
I’m in shorts or running pants most of the time. Discovered the Ulti Clip a couple years ago. All my holsters now have the Ulti Clip. No issues, just need to make sure the waist drawstring is tight. No sag and it’s secure
That’s cool until the draw string pops when you need it or it just pops while you’re walking and your gun drops. You could however replace the draw string with para cord.
I love mine especially since they fixed the belt attachment points to the pouch. I added glow in the dark lanyard beads to the main compartment. Also always make sure you tuck the pulls on the rear into the rear compartment when you close the zipper.
Awesome pack! Awesome video! Instead of 550 for pulltabs maybe something stiffer. The wide zip ties being more rigid may help pull the bag open easier. Possibly a small carabiner attached to both 550 cords would be faster as well. Just a thought
Thanks for this specific video. I've been trying to figure out a good way to carry when I do my cardio out in the wild. I like your method. I think I might try this.

Thanks Chadd for your service and this channel. From New Jerkistan (NJ) finally getting chance at CCW. I live at beach and wear board shorts a lot. This is an awesome and very discrete option. God bless brother.
Lmfao "New Jerkistan" I hear you bro, I'm in The Peoples Republic of New York.
How the hell can you get concealed carry in nj?
Both of u have good points I thinks it's really just more about the situation
@@jessebarnett4205 I see a fanny pack as much less of an off body carry than a backpack or CC purse. As long as you arent loading the thing up to storm Kabul, it is designed to stay on the body and remain comfortable all day. Sure, there is a single clip/buckle holding it to the body, but most are designed that is it right above one of the front pockets of the pants, and mostly covered by a slack arm.
@@jessebarnett4205 the internet commando has spoken. ATTEN SHUN all peter gazers watching this video please be advised: you are not high speed and you will not be able to engage the threat if you do not carry how jesse barneett has instructed you to. SECONDARILY, jesse WILL be picking out your outfits for the rest of your life so you can be tactical AND ready
If you're a "running shorts" person, you need to try the Enigma holster by Phlster. No belt needed.
Was just thinking that
Very high speed brother! I love this idea because I’m in running shorts a lot myself.
My uncle is a LEO, he used to wear a Fanny pack pretty much everywhere and we’d make fun of him for it. Until I learned what was in the pack…..
Bro nobody cares about astrology
Lol
@@ilong5545 Great suggestion and excellent example of what I am talking about! Thanks!
In Europe helikon tex has lots of these different bags in usa probably 5.11
I'm considering that option. Great suggestion.
@@fitness403 You're welcome! Let us know what you end up getting. Mind you, it's just one facet of carrying that may have limited application depending on your activities and where you live. But if it helps fill a gap, and makes carrying more comfortable and efficient in those situations, win!
"Lots of non-CCL folks are using them" - "folks", yeah for sure, i see drug mules using them all the time. i wouldn't exactly call them folks though.
All I can say is we need more videos! Awesome as always man, cheers from FL!
Keep coming back to this video. I bought the 945 industries bag that has a pull tab option for quick draw.
Genius!!! Thanks for the great content brother!!!
Thank you for your service I enjoy all your comment amen. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🥰
Great video, I like the idea of the detaching trigger guard and will be shopping for one. Thanks!
Its not cheap but i bought two, a large one for my HK 45C and a smaller one for my G26, You might want to check this pack out, believe you will fall in love with it as I did
I’m always running shorts or sweatpants and use a belly band/retention based holster and EDC fanny pack. Cozy Boyz Inc.
Great video. Love your content.
I'm very thankful for this video. I hate wearing pants I'm always in shorts. I live in FL and the last thing I will wear is jeans. So I've been in this predicament for a while now. I also can't stand having a lot of things in my pockets.
Found your channel a few weeks ago and really enjoying your content
They way you took the time too explain the Zippers was very impressed .The little details matter in Big situation.Gun safety spot on 👍😎
It takes a real man to keep referring to fanny pack by it's proper name without blinking in the process :D Carry on...
Hill people gear ya say, hmm, I'm interested, thanks. I like you man, you seem like good people.
I carried a fanny pack for years before it was legal, Smith model 65 ss revolver .357. DA. The pack is slow but better than no gun. My cousin said "i bet I can grab that gun before you can" and I said watch out for the knife.
Before it was legal? Was there a jurisdiction where carrying in a fanny pack was illegal but not concealed carry in general?
Two knives are better then one . I say this I may draw a blade from either hand .
I have been using sling bads for 30yrs. Over the shoulder works well as a shoulder rig.GREAT CARRY GEAR
I too utilize the fanny pack by Black Rifle Coffee Company and agree its an awesome way to carry when in gym shorts! Thanks for the content.
nothing screams i have a gun more than a black rifle coffee fanny pack lol
@@Jacob-zv7xw as soon as Folgers makes one…I’ll change! Lol
Been using that belt pouch for two years now. It is a good choice for edc items. I use their chest pack for hiking.
I’m in a suit almost every night of my life so I needed an option that didn’t weigh my trousers down or show clips on my belt.
I carry a 43x in a Tier 1 Xiphos V2 with a Comfort Concealment belt.
The belt is “sticky” and it adheres to my clothes but doesn’t weigh anything down. I run in this same setup as well.
Thank you for comfort concealment belt recommendation. I just purchased. Prior I wore the belly band, for one trip in gym clothes, never again. Been suffering with a belt and shorts ever since
@@philanderton1559 let me know what you think.
@@PastorChris44 I’m a medium and it’s a hot item and on back order. Hope to let you know this month when it gets fulfilled. In case anyone didn’t pick up, the belly band SUCKS. And I have a 32” waste so it ain’t cause I have a gut.
@@PastorChris44 hey brother. Got it, few days now wore it and so far I’m a fan. Gets my gun just a little higher, able to sit more comfortably, and most important I’ve been able to go out in gym shorts.
Wonderful! I believe it’s a wonderful option! I’ve had mine for over a year it’s still working great.
I’ve never seen it done this way seams to be very efficient with some practice! Thanks for sharing this…
Try thunderwear holsters. I've been using them since my navy days (long ago) and I run with it and carry a full size IWI masada.
I have one of these (snubby), instead of the orange pull tab method you have going you can also put a finger/thumb directly into the ccw compartment and rip it open. For me, easier for my fingers to find that opening vs threading them through the loops on the main compartment. Great content as always Chad
I've been backpacking for years and I've never carried a weapon. Mostly because I would never use it and it would be more weight. But my biggest problem has been consealment of the pistol. I really don't want to open carry around other hikers. I feel that it just sends the wrong message. This is exactly what I've been looking for. Excellent solution right here.
Definitely carry out in the world. May need to defend one of those hikers if not yourself.
@@MrMann-gt1ehas long as he does not hurt anybody's feelings first and foremost
Great videos sir I carry my taurus g3 in a ankle holster most people look for a weapon on someone around the waist but they don’t look at peoples ankles
If your wearing shorts with an ankle holster I bet they look.
Sweet rig!! I love Hill People Gear stuff. I personally went with the small Vanquest fanny. In charcoal grey it's pretty low profile. Gen 3 Glock 27 with a stick mag thrown in for good measure. The hardest part for me has been working my vehicle seat belt with my fanny pack on. I feel that it takes some getting used to...
Thanks Chad!
You have convinced me to give the fanny pack a try for concealed carry.
Great idea i would sew a oversized pull tab in the location I needed it though so I was trying to locate and pull two different strings during a intense situation.
Good idea, even you don't wear running shorts. I'm no fan of concealed in or out of the waist band holsters. Why don't you carry your Glock? God Bless you and yours.
This is the only video I have seen you with this on. I may grab one for when I'm on my street and trail bike or hiking. Thanks for the video.
Love your content brother, keep it up!
I used your set up in a Helikon waist pack. Works great. Thank you.
Tuuuuns of room in it man! That sold it!!!! I'm buying a hill people fanny!
I wish I could do the fan pack but I have a crap bag on my left side those medical body modifications have a draw back, I wear my OWB alien gear holster at the 3o clock
Great concept. I don’t carry, but I would like to make a suggestion on your cord pulls. I would be more comfortable pulling the cord with balls attached instead of loops. Just a suggestion and thank you for your service
Bowie knife ■ 24/7 exposed in VA; the carry belt doubles as a reasonable whipping buckle, sleeping must be an orchestrated turn, with a clip holding keys gives access to many ways out
question for Chad..... when you first "came back" did dogs stay away from you???...... dogs wouldn't come near me for a couple years....
I got myself a 945 Industries conceal carry fanny pack and I love that thing
I am trying to decide between the 945 and the Hill People. The biggest issue for me is 945 is only available in black right now.
@@crossfitfortuna yeah, I wish they had other color options too, I'm actually thinking about getting some camouflage paint and do like a foliage thing because I live out in the Eastern side of WA state.
But what like I about the pack itself is that it comes with an extra back strap, and you can wear it like a chest rig, plus you can buy a cheap admin pouch to put on the sides of the lower back strap. If anything, it's good to have options, I got another cheap fanny pack.
@@Magilla.Guerrilla thank you for the input I appreciate it. I do not want it to look tactical so I will probably get the blue pack. Great idea you have there to modify yours. Hopefully it works out well.
You could speed this up considerably by replacing the orange cord with something more rigid that would stay in a loop formation. Off the cuff I’m thinking you could cut to length and feed a piece of clothes hanger through the center of the paracord and bend it to shape. That way you could work with the same shape every time and know what to expect. Absolutely love your videos. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Bright colored zip ties
When I use a fanny pack method I have a red carabiner which is real easy to grab.
When my father used to carry 20 years ago Leonard goes to your belt loop is somebody tries grabbing the fanny pack you can pull the lantern retrieve it got to set up for what's comfortable for you
Am I the first person to bring up the phlster enigma? I can conceal a Glock 19 while wearing running shorts and a tank top. It completely divorces your holster/firearm from whatever pants/shorts you are wearing. It’s definitely worth checking out as another option.
I can't live without my enigma. Most definetely the best option so far.
Smart Carry strap is still my favorite and works with any outfit
i love how 3-4 days after you made this video they sold out in every color.
No offense to Chadd, but back in the late 80's early 90's I used a fanny pack to carry my 9mm, BUT, I dont like this pack not having the holster inside the pack w/o the trigger guard! I DONT like the weapon floating around in the pack! Love you Brother.
Thanks. Fanny pack is the way to go. I use the Sig Rose w/Crossbreed holster for a 365XL with red dot and TLR6 mounted light. Perfect.
I wear running shorts a lot and the only thing I can carry in them is a credit card and car key. Never considered this option thanks.
Down here in TX, fanny packs are a godsend, particularly during the summer.
John from Active Self Protection would be having a heart attack at this carry method.
Fanny packs are awesome. I hate having a bunch of crap bouncing around in my pockets when trying to move fast.
Sorry, but in my country, Mexico, a fanny pack is almost as obvious as open carry if you have the "the look", you know what I mean.
