    Greg Stovie may be Scottish, but Berwick is in England. A border town, Englands most northern, it has over the centuries been Scottish and English. It has been in England since 1482.

    Loved the "Scottish" accent, with a touch (98%) Irish ;) As you say, you can use most meats, I've had them with sausage, mince, corned beef and even chunks of rump steak. I cook the spuds and crush them, cook everything else together (nowhere close to that amount of liquid), put it all together and eat... What you had was more of a stew. Still looked ok though

    • @killerfunghoul3948
      @killerfunghoul3948 6 лет назад

      David Wardle i always put in half the tautties and then cook until soft, then add the rest and cook. it lets the first lot break up and thicken the liquid instead of just relying on the gravy granules. my gran used to say if your wooden spoon can stand up in it it’s perfect 😂.

    What the fudge Greg, just you get that garlic away fa ma stoves. I really think stoves and be mostly anything that is meat scraps, onion, and tatties no garlic .... never garlic. Lots of pepper and some salt. It should also have a nice broken potato thick constancy as it not stew but more a rough paste. Thanks for the video it was a lot of fun

    • @monkeytail2002
      @monkeytail2002 6 лет назад +7

      Nope. With stovies you don't make a roux or gravy. What you do is fry your onions until they're starting to brown then add in your chopped potatoes. Add in your meat and about 1 tbsp of water then cover and cook on a long low heat.
      No idea what Greg has done here but... it's not stovies. Not by a long shot. He made a sausage casserole.

    We use flour and Browning gravy Brown and not gravy mix. Things like Gravy Master or Kitchen Bouquet or whatever you have there to make things darker it's just a small bottle of caramel coloring with a little flavor. My dad always put in a splash of Worcester sauce. This is also better the next day. And we always ate The Leftovers on toast. Isn't it lovely? People bitch about British food but Scottish food is up there with some of my favorites.

    From America, so never heard of this, but, it does look good. This seems like a cross between a casserole and a stew. There’s a thin line between a stew and a soup so I’d say it’s somewhere in the middle of those two and you could thicken it up with some corn starch. Biscuits would do well with it . Good job, Grego.

My late stepfather was from Aberdeen. My sister lives just outside Glasgow. Fry lots of onions, carrots and a parsnip or 2 and a few bay leafs salt and plenty of black pepper in a pan until things are smelling good onions should be soft keep the heat low ,
    Throw in some fatty beef mince get it all lovely and brown ,
    Throw in some peeled potatoes add water to just half way up potatoes
    Pop a kid on the pan and cook it slow for at least an hour give it a stir it’s done when the potatoes are soft stir it up that will make it thick season to taste . It’s better the next day !!
