    Btw when Buffy said “deja vu”, she may have been referring to when she dropped her pencil (possibly twice?) in the nightmares episode from s1.

    I like that you're astute enough to catch little things like the callback to the orb being sold as a paperweight in the magic shop.

    Wouldn't rule out Angel calling the police to get Buffy busy / in trouble so as to not mess with their plans to wake Acathla.

    Technically, he's STILL Irish. 😁
    I don't think Buffy's love is the only factor in her wanting to restore Angel's soul. If they can restore it, he can be a a major force for good.

    One of the understated plot elements is that the Master's cult of extremely religious vampires, the order of aurulia, just automatically started following Spike & Angel after the Anointed One's death. Per, the Immolation-o-gram.

      Aurelius, Order of Aurelius. it was founded by The Master and both Darla and Angelus were members...but i don't think drusilla and Spike were ever interested in it. despite the fact Angelus, Darla, drusilla and Spike traveled together for many years and massacred half of Europe...when they were known as the Whirlwind.

    they fail to see that a vampire, and a vampire with a soul are two entirely different creatures. It's not fair to hold the souled vampire accountable for what the non-souled did.

    • @LoganBluth
      @LoganBluth 5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I was never really sure why Angel felt SOOO guilty for all the awful things Angelus did. Like, I would completely understand him being extremely *_traumatised_* by having memories of all the things Angelus did, but he's not remotely personally reponsible for them.
      The way Giles explains it in an earlier episode, when you become a vampire your soul (the basic essence of your being) is just *_gone,_* and the demon that is the vampire takes over complete control and puppets your body around. So if your soul gets put back in your body, you are no more to blame than an inanimate object like a knife is to blame if it were to be used to kill people.

    Lol The Lost Boys quote at the start instantly transported me back to middle school when I was absolutely obsessed with that film (and had every line of it memorized). I definitely feel your pain trying to balance school, life, and work. I wasn't able to keep that up long enough to make it through my PhD program earlier this year. I hope you make it through the semester and pass all of your classes. School is more important than Buffy. We can wait.

      Oh gosh, sorry to hear about your program. I hope you're able to get another opportunity to complete it! I believe in you! 🖤🙌

      @@TheRiskPig Lol. It was Jason Patric for me. Though I did have a huge crush on Corey Haim in that time period as well. He was a bit closer to my own age. It's interesting that you mentioned Kiefer Sutherland in his role as David, though. His father, Donald Sutherland, is actually one of the stars of the 1992 original Buffy the Vampire Slayer film! (I recommend watching that film after finals end for some campy comic relief. It's got a VERY late 80s/early 90s tv & movie star cast.)

    I don't know if someone's already mentioned it, but Angel is still wearing the ring, he just turned it around so the heart points in the opposite direction ;)
    I don't recommend the movie. It's pretty bad. But if you do watch it, after the season 2 finale would be good placement. Just remember that the lore is not the same, don't use it as reference for the show. Maybe just laugh at it XD

  • @IDyce88
    @IDyce88 8 месяцев назад +1

    i know Xander has a point...but the problem is Xander has ALWAYS had a bias agaisnt vampires and Angel...he doesn;t like that Buffy loves Angel more than him and he doesn't like vampires because they murdered his original friend (Jessie from the very first episode).

  • @shercahn

    You don't have to watch the movie. It technically is not canon and the fandom mostly agrees on this. There are some elements that Whedon keeps from the movie but everything you need to know will get explained (eventually). The movie is a totally different vibe and it's own stand alone medium.
    As pointed out by @peterd9698, Whedon and crew did a lot of planning of some of the stuff they wanted. Sometimes the foreshadowing is a few episodes away, sometimes it's seasons away. And that's all I will say :)

    Becoming part 1 was a great lead into the brilliant S2 finale Becoming part 2. So much in this episode to digest. The loss of Kendra, Angel's back story being turned by Darla, and we also see Drusilla being tormented by Angelus in The Confessional. At least the floppy disk has been found, and Willow can now work her magic. We now have the climax to come, and you will not be disappointed a brilliant last episode to come. I think you can now really see how this show engrosses all reactors that enter The Buffyverse! and, S3 is a near flawless Season, even better than this!

    Yes, Xander is entirely wrong... once you lose your soul, the actions are being committed by a demon with your memories. This is why this curse is stupid... they are punishing, not the demon that killed all those people but the man who would not have done those things.

      It's true that without a soul the actions are those of a demon with the memories of the person. However, when Angelus is ensouled the demon responsible is still present. Angel himself is the first to admit that the still possesses the demonic desires. A large part of his guilt comes from the fact that it's not just memories. It's something that he experiences in the present, not just the past.
      Giles said that Angelus would go after the ones who made him feel the most human. Angelus wanted Buffy to suffer rather than simply kill her, so he chose the people she cared about the most to torment (as well as her directly). Angelus himself said that in order to kill Buffy one had to love her. With a soul, Angelus felt human. With a soul, Angelus loved Buffy. Angelus & Liam aren't two separate entities fighting over control of a body. They are integrated (though not necessarily individuated).
      Was Liam an innocent that was drug into this mess? Yes. Did Angelus simply get caged? No.
      If Angelus wasn't feeling guilty while he had a soul -- wasn't experiencing human emotions, why is he so vengeful toward Buffy & her friends? Toward the Romani who "bound" him, sure, but why the others? Angelus hated Buffy for making him feel human. Angelus, "That's just not something that you forgive."

    One thing that irritates me about these episodes is the Acathla statue. It's a joke. It looks like a gargoyle left over from a bad Disney movie. It looks like Taz, the _Looney Tunes_ animated Tazmanian devil. Couldn't they have coughed up another $50 and hired a better artist?

    As someone who loves Buffy more than any other TV show: Don't watch the movie. I think it's the worst movie I've ever seen and not in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. It has hardly any of the quirks of the TV show and is just really boring to watch. If you are really curious about it, read a summary, that will suffice.

    • @dennicaid7682

      or.. hear me out... Buffy: The Origin comic. It's basically Joss Whedon's attempt to put a version of the movie that's more true to his vision in comic form, that fits better with the TV show canon.
