Ive had bad eczema on and off my whole life. Now I am 99% clear. this is what ive learned: - Dermatologists will prescribe steroid creams, and anti histamins, they dont fix the root cause, and it will just cover the symptoms, but the eczema will keep coming back, in my opinion they dont know how to fix eczema. - The main causes are: food intolerances, allergies / auto inmune issues, gut health, and vitamin deficiencies, by managing these i am 99% clear. - My main triggers are animals, dust mites and certain foods and heavy alcohol consumption. Once i have an allergic reaction, my inmune system goes overdrive, and i become allergic to everything, within 2-3 weeks of getting an allergic reaction, ill eat something that causes a new reaction, and ill get eczema all over my body, when i remove the allergen, it clears within 1 month, month and a half. Get yourself tested for allergies, and remove them from your life. - If you are allergic to dust mites like me, you have to change the bed sheets every 2 days, and pijama daily, otherwise they make me itch terribly. I had to change all bed sheets, duvet, pillow to natural fibres, because polyester etc have static electricity, which attracts a lot of dust, i had to replace duvets with wool blankets because they dont have static electricty, breathe better, and are resistant to bacteria and mold, leave the bed undone with the window open during cold months to kill the dust mites, they dont like cold and dry conditions. Vacuum the sheets daily, and the matress when changing the sheets. - Dairy causes me to have severe break outs, i can only take dairy once in a blue moon. Many people I know will also get acne and dry skin because of dairy. - When I used to drink alcohol heavily, I had terrible break outs, and had eczema all over my body head to toes, in my scalp, in my ears, etc, i read that alcohol depletes your body of vitamins A, C, and B, which are all needed to have a healthy skin. Eating sweet potatoes for the vitamin A, and having 4-5k mg of vitamin C helped me almost overnight, eat the sweet potatoes with some oil, as vitamin A is fat soluble, youll absrove it better. As long as I drink very sparingly I dont get terrible breakouts. If you have eczema, remove alcohol from your diet, let you liver / kidneys heal. - other foods that have helped with dry / red skin around my eyes and neck is hummus, i dont know why, eat it 3 times a day for a few days and youll see it helps with the inflamation. - if you dont have good digestion, you need to improve your diet, this is critical, most of us are addicted to bad food, you need to: remove junk food, eat more fruit, vegetables and legumes try to get at least 30g of fibre a day, incorporate fermented food, pro biotics, prebiotics, remove dairy which has 15 separate inflammatory compounds, and remove gluten as many are sensitive to it. Remove sugar and transfats. There is a big link between your gut and your immune system, eczema is a disregulation of your inmune system. Read about leaky gut. Start taking bone broth, and supplement with glutamin, both help to reduce the permeability of your gut, and helps to rebuild gut lining integrity. Also walk more often try to hit 10k steps a day, because walking helps with your gut health. Healing your gut will take a lot of time and work to produce results, committ to at least 6 months of healthy eating. If you are not making smooth, round banana like feces, regularly, and expulsing them without discomfort, then youll continue to have break outs. - meditation and fasting also helps with your gut, theres a type of bacteria that only increases when we dont eat food. Meditation will help with your anxiety / stress, which causes more breakouts. - Improve your diet, this is key! most people will feel a lot of resitance, because we are addicted to bad food. - Once i had bad sores / dryness around my fingers for months, i did some blood work, it turns out i was deficient on vitamin D, which apparently is common among people with psoriasis / eczema, i started supplementing with 2-4k mu of vitamin D3 daily , the sores cleared in a few days. Once again, vitamin D is linked to gut health too, lack of gut biome diversity leads to vitamin D deficiency, it all comes down to your gut and diet. - when you have bad break outs, crush a few garlic bulbs and let them sit for 20minutes to develop allicin, then mix in a warm bath, and steep into it, make sure you buy garlic that has the green bits in the middle and is not hollow (if it is hollow, it means it has been irradiated to increase the shell life, and wont develop allicin when crushed). Garlic is extremely potent against staph, the bacteria on our skin that causes the redness / inflammation when our outer barrier becomes compromised, try to do this x2 a day for a few days, within 2-3 days youll see the inflammation reduces. Yes, youll smell bad, but youll be in less pain. - tea trea oil diluted in water, or a hydrating cream helps with the itch. - the best creams are both hydrating, anti bacterial / fungal, anti inflammatory, i like hope's relief range, also sukin because its all natural ingredients. Summary: - get tested for allergenes, remove them from your life. - remove alcohol completely. - eczema originates from your gut health, gut health is linked to your inmune system, eczema is an auto inmune disease originating mainly from an unhealthy gut. - improve your diet, remove dairy, gluten, sugar, trans fats, get 30g fibre a day, take pre and pro biotics.
I cannot thank you enough for this comment. May I know if you have social media so we can connect and share more? I am an eczema sufferer as well, for many years now.
@@Amandaaaaaa123 Hello, i dont do much social media, im on whatsapp, if you leave your number i can ping you, you can then edit and remove your number here if you want.
I think you are completely correct. I’ve developed eczema on my hands in my 60’s and can’t figure out why. I’m on a plant based whole food diet and am very health conscious. I will cut out wine, cheese and gluten as you suggest and see what happens. Thanks so much
@@janearchutowska Hi, i went through that for 2 years, my fingers would develop dry skin and inflamation that wouldnt heal for months. It went away when i started to suplement with 8000iu of vitamin D3. How is your digestion? have you had your blood tested recently?
My digestion is not great and I’ve had a stool sample analysis which said there was poor bacteria diversity. I don’t know what else to do to improve the gut as I take probiotics everyday and loads of different supplements including 4000 iu of vitamin D and eat a really healthy diet. I’ve just ordered IgE allergy testing from a blood sample, so we’ll see if I need to avoid certain foods. You have to be a detective!
Dr Syed's point of not using topical steroid cream for more than 2 weeks is golden advice. My doctor told me to keep using it continuously and after years it barely worked anymore so I stopped using it. Now I have topical steroid withdrawal and it's debilitating to my life. I'll never use topical steroids ever again. Be very careful.
This is why my Eczema did not heal for years because of well-intentioned doctors but does not address the Root Cause and are just addressing the symptoms. Using bleach bath!!!? The worst I’ve heard so far. What is really the cause of eczema doctor? It’s food, toxins, stress… All the 5 doctors I went to never ever even mentioned these. I got rid of my eczema by eliminating gluten, sugar and dairy in my diet.
I've been watching videos about eczema on youtube for years now and this is the BEST one i've seen! I know it's not direct advice, but i feel great that i can talk to my dermatologist about some potential treatment options. THANK YOU!
The Cerave moisturizer worked for me. I have eczema at the back of my ears. Flaky, itchy like a dog. Tried lotions, coconut oil didn't work. Tried the moisturizer and my skin relaxed. Although I have to apply it multiple times a day, it sure is better than getting prescription steroids, although those work really good too. I used them on my fingers and the eczema completely went away in less than a day.
Other lifestyle modifications that are actually quite helpful are diet and anxiety/stress management. Consuming fermented foods and taking probiotics coupled with limited triggering foods such as dairy or eggs or nuts has proven to be quite helpful in the management of this chronic condition. Moreover, meditation and other means of relieving stress also work wonders for some as stress is an equally potent yet manageable/preventable trigger.
Great input! Totally agree that stress worsens every skin disease, and so any strategies that can reduce stress will definitely be helpful for skin. Probiotics and gut microbiome interventions are showing increasing promise in the research too! Think in this next decade we’re going to see huge overlap between gut health and skin disease start to be understood.
@@usamasyed I had eczema near my eye corner and nose joint areas, my face looks horrible🥺, I had tried so many dr prescribed medicine but it didn't helped🥺can i follow this method to cure my eczema?
I'm going to create a playlist of taking care of my skin and create a routine for myself so I can be the best of myself and live life to the fullest with confidence. I want to change my life instead of scrolling and itching on youtube.
I use Aveeno baby Eczema cure and it is amazing. It helps my eczema a lot. Also, try drinking one tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar every day and use Castor oil to moisturize what part in your body that has eczema.
I’d love to hear you talk about contact dermatitis, as well as how and why some people might randomly develop something like seb derm or perioral derm for a few weeks, even though they don’t normally suffer.
Even a few drops of bleach is helpful by doing a few drops in water 3 to 4 drops u can use treatment more often without drying out the skin to much especially sensitive skin I recommend following up with a fragrance free baby lotion cream and a dab of sealant most people use like vaseline or natural alternative that works the best 4 u .
I had eczema when I was younger. I had a breakout on my legs and used prescription steroid cream on my legs. I started having nightmares and afraid of dying - very unlike 'me'. I looked up in the PDR and 1) steroid cream is absorbed through the skin, especially when covered. 2) It can cause psychosis and paranoia. So, I stopped the cream and started looking for the cause. After changing my laundry detergent, soap and shampoo, it went away and never returned. I don't think MDs are trained in looking for the cause, just 'diagnose and drug'.
Would have loved to see some mention of dietary allergens and how controlling/avoiding these can be an effective lifestyle intervention. My son's eczema only took a turn for the better when we began addressing food allergies and vitamin D. Now he's been in remission for more than seven months after a steady decline of the typical eczema symptoms, something that the steroid prescriptions hadn't been able to do.
Very surprised that fragranced laundry detergents and soaps/body washes weren’t addressed. They can wreak havoc and completely send eczema out of control. Fragrance free versions are often critical to eczema management. Otherwise, all of the other efforts are futile.
You are absolutely correct. Fabric softener makes my body feels like I'm on fire in random places when I get a little warm. I had to throw away my fabric softener I purchase from Costco. I nearly forgot about the fabric softener issue because I use gain the liquid kind for past 10 years and it didn't trigger .y eczema
Ohh my god , I have been recently using fragranced liquid soap and Mt eczema has severly increased as I wasn't aware of this fact , ty for pointing this out
@bricknerdz2561 liquid soap isn't as bad as fabric softeners. Don't use anything with fragrance. Drinks lots of water and use lotion once a day. I have severe eczema when I feel a little warmth. I get the thousands needle poke all over my body. I had to see a dermatologist. It was hard working because you would have to stop everything u do and scratch like a addict
After watching your video I feel just like I went to a dermatology appointment. You made it very easy and clear to understand all the information you are explaining ,thank you so much for these helpful tips. I will try some of them out.
I have had my eczema on my legs, wrists, and it was starting to go on my face but I am embarrassed to talk to anyone about it and gym class is so bad cause flakes of my eczema fall off causing me to get bullied and I am so thankful to stumble upon this because my eczema is less flakey thanks to your recommendations! Thank you sooooo much!
I've also learned that hot water can trigger eczema flare ups too. If you are showering, bathing, and or washing your hands always use warm water and finish up with cold to calm the skin. Cold water has became my BEST friend since I developed eczema again on my hands! Cerve also has a jar ointment as well! It's working great so far for me! I use that along with Aveeno Shea butter and oatmeal lotion. In the past clobetosol caused severe stretch marks on my inner folds of my elbows😔. I try to stay away from steroids completely!!
Yes, hot water really triggers my eczema as well and not only hot water but anything that has a heating effect for example when my hand is under a comforter it irritates my eczema+ the heat from sun and dust also triggers it.
Awesome content I've suffered for years and being a hairstylist doesn't help I only use gentle soap under my armpits my private parts and under feet The rest I use ointment (epizone e) No scrubbing no face cloth Works great Much love From Johannesburg South Africa
Eczema truly affects life deeply. I have had eczema, asthma, allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, but at different points of my life. At 21 eczema came and it has definitely played a huge part in delaying my recovery for depression (only sought treatment and saw improvement after 11 years). Currently experiencing a flare and really I am about to give up on myself....
Dietary changes and supplements have helped me tremendously. Vitamin D, Omega/Fish Oils, and Zinc among some others. Also if you want to try a bath, do 1/2C of hydrogen peroxide in a full bath, not bleach!
Yeah I take those supplements. Flaxseed helped me but not 100%. Vitamin D didn't do much for my eczema, but definitely did a lot for my immunity. Other supplements that help are chlorella or any other detoxing agent and probiotics.
totally agree. i used to have severe flareups and going to the doctor did not help at all. i recommend finding a quality and rich moisturiser that works for you and won't irritate your skin even more. i had to try at least 15 different moisturisers till i found the one that prevented my flareups. feel free to ask if you need any recommendations :)

My daughter had bad eczema flares! Changed her diet by eliminating processed food ,avoiding shrimp, mushrooms. Made wonders to her skin, also Cetaphil restoraderm cream added magic
I used to fast for 24 to 48 2 times a month, it got rid of my eczema, i didn’t have any symptoms for about 3 years, it came back due to not fasting anymore.
the "outside-in" hypothesis has been addressed with various things like moisturizers, humidifier & steroids. the inside-out hypothesis( bad gut health, high sugar intake, gluten & other allergens, stress) could have been added which is the main cauce I believe.
about to switch to an inside-out approach. I've only been suppressing it for just over 3 years doing the outside-in thing, its only got more strange recently. If you know about any cases where people switch this way of thinking around and see positive results, I'd be super grateful if you could let me know about one or two. would be mega encouraging. cheers
@@64startetra Definitely the moisturizing part has to be take care of to heal it (if not completely cure it) but the fact that one can only maintain it and expecting it to "not flare up" says that there is some problem inside as well. If one has not fully conquered it means you r addressing the symptoms with the underlying condition being ignored, which is the allopathic way of treating a disorder :) One has to look for allergic reactions, many people will have for gluten. If there is flare up / itching after consumption of some food then that has to be avoided. also good gut health(without leaks) is paramount,as food particles enter blood stream and trigger unnecessary reactions which lead to eruptions in skin. Good probiotic food(fermented food) and also prebiotic food that encourage good bacteria should be consumed. Flushing out the colon through laxatives ( Triphala etc) and regular fasting may improve the condition.Cheers !!
@@64startetra I have eczema. Here's what I learned. It's an internal autoimmune/inflammatory condition that manifests itself as an external skin disease. You cannot constantly prescribe and apply topical ointments thinking that's going to get rid of eczema. A root cause approach works best. I'm not a doctor, but I'm a scientist who struggles with eczema. This is what I've concluded. It's caused by: 1. Food intolerances/allergies SOLUTION: find your food triggers and allergens and minimize your intake of them 2. Stress/anxiety SOLUTION: stress and anxiety management 3. Buildup of toxins in the body such as pollen, dust, pesticides, mold, heavy metals, chemicals, etc... SOLUTION: detox, I take chlorella 4. Nutritional deficiencies in zinc, vitamin D, and omega 3 fatty acids SOLUTION: supplement with these, I take vitamin D and flaxseed oil 5. Gut microbiome imbalances SOLUTION: take a probiotic, though for me personally I have taken a probiotic and noticed no difference in my skin. So this is likely not the root cause of my eczema and my gut health is fine. But for some people this helps a lot. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions. I do take supplements, but I'm trying to fine-tune them so I don't overwhelm myself and spend too much money. I'm working on narrowing it down to what I feel I really need.
I’m in the UK🇬🇧, and after months of waiting I’ve finally got my app with dermatology clinic. I’m 45yrs old and back in the beginning of July this year I started getting this really red, sore, swollen, itchy, cracked, scaly, flaky skin around both my eyes, which then went to other parts of my face. I’ve never suffered with eczema or any other skin condition in my life. This has really caused me, pain and discomfort. I had 3 over the phone app with my GP, they are still limiting patients in the surgery from when covid first hit. My app with derm clinic is an over the phone consultation, to which I’ve had to send photos. I really, really hope they can help me. It’s only on my face, to which I can’t hide it. Watching this video has given me hope that I can get help for this ❤️👍🏼 Could this possibly be seborrheic dermatitis. I read about it and it explains a lot, also I used to have naturally oily skin, T zone and eyelids. This is where the rash has occurred
hi i had it around the eye skin and it went red and sore and i tried the vaseline over night but it was still red inflamed but over a few days it did settle down but was more dry flakey but still red and i went to doctors many times and tried lot's of different options but in the end i went to a skin specialist that recommended eumovate ointment as it deals with the dry flakey skin and it was very greasy but calmed everything down but i'm noticing is there's still a bit of shade of redness, i can't seem to shift that, i did try a rosacea facial cream but had a reaction from that, it's very trial and error to find something that works i've found.
@@Jungle-Run hi, I’m the original post person. I completely understand your frustration. On a good note for me now, it has finally cleared up. It started early July last year and I finally got it under control early December. I was prescribed many different creams from the doctors including steroid cream and steroid tablets. I still use a cream every night as it’s not good to use under makeup. It’s called Hydromol ointment and has been really great for my skin. Hope things work out for you. Sending love to you 👍🏼❤️🇬🇧
i got a tub and started using it, goes on and spreads around nicely, no reaction yet on day 2 and it seems to work quite well on leg where it's a bit flakey, skin feels soft and smoothe after putting it on and i don't have an urge to scratch which will help with healing process 👍
Ali Abdaal brought me here, today. Could I kindly request a video on your advice for Psoriasis, please? Knowing you’re a bona fide dermatologist makes a significant difference to the advice you offer. Many thanks.👍🇬🇧🌞🌞👍
This video was very helpful with improving my understanding of my condition, when I was a little kid I used to have an eczema sore so large and so itchy it just became a big red bleeding sore on the back of my leg that would send me crying when it would act up, we tried everything to get it cleared, from salt baths to steroid creams I had to be weened off of, and it still did not clear up, out of all the treatments we ever tried for me, the ONLY thing that worked was a now discontinied product from neosporin being a body wash and a cream they made for eczema treatment, I eventually got that spot cleared up but now that its discontinued I fear for what might happen if it were to flare up again in a major way but I haven't had a major breakout in many years even after we exhausted our last tube of that cream, I just wish I knew what the active ingredients were. At the time I was told I had a mild condition but judgeing by how casually you talk about it in this video maybe my case was more severe then I was led to believe or maybe it just doesn't typically effect little kids but reguardless this video has helped greatly
I had super severe eczema as well and found the moisturiser that works best for me after trying out at least 15 different types. I recommend the Youth Activating Cream Concentrate from Invity. I am not too sure of all of its active ingredients but I know it has Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter and NAD and vitamin e. Good thing about it is I can still use it daily even though I do not have eczema any more.
I'd be very cautious about these skin disorders and that they are actually what they resemble.I had a very close shave with what was originally diagnosed as eczema followed by psoriasis as the condition got worse and nothing worked to stop it or slow it's progress down. When some terrible tumours came leading to an amputation the truth finally came out it was neither eczema or psoriasis but a very rare blood cancer called Mycosis Fungoides which was at stage 2b by discovery the beginning of the aggressive disorder.
Yep! Mycosis fungoides can frequently be misdiagnosed as both of those conditions, but we’re trained to be vigilant for this. That’s why it’s important to see a dermatologist, though!
omg i have had same experience as you, Mycosis fungoides cells were found in my biopsy and doctors keep prescribing it as eczema/psoriasis. could you please explain how it went for you further up?
I had a doctor once recommend BLEACH BATHS periodically and it’s what actually got me hooked on taking baths, not always with bleach but I love me a good bath infused with tea bags, Epsom salts and what not.
I had eczema and got treated for over a year. Finally, on a suggestion, I tried "Cortis*ne-10 for Eczema" every 6 hours. Eczema cleared up in less than 48 hours. It's been 4 months and my skin is perfect. I do use the cream about once a week, just as a precaution. I believe it started due to stress, but it was like my body couldn't turn the eczema switch off once the stress was gone.
Just stumbled across your video and what you said is essentially the same thing my dermatologist told me. I pretty much have my eczema under control and only have a few minor areas. I was prescribed to use Protopic and one thing I hate is the burning feeling. I was also given prescribed anti histamine for my sleep and I was no longer scratching at night.
I have really bad skin and acne and dry skin and all that. My dermatologist recommend dove soap bar unscented. Use lotion as well after u shower. Get rid of fabric softener your using. Liquid ones are safer because it's washes better and not fragrance. Couple weeks ago I bought bounce fabric softener and I notice my skin felt so itchy and I was on fire feeling . It would trigger when I get a little warm when I'm out shopping and buying groceries. I haven't felt that kind of itch since the last 15 years so I knew it was my fabric softener.
The best laundry detergents for our skin is Arm and Hammer sensitive or oxy clean arm&hammer. No fabric softener whatsoever! Dryer sheets no! Absolutely NOTHING fragrant! Dove sensitive bar soap is your best friend!! Also Vaseline, aquaphor, or cerve ointment are great moisturizers accompanied with your favorite fragrant free lotions!! Good luck my Eczema family ❤️
Iam watching this video second time becoz i learned more about eczema from ur video .im a eczema patient its been 10 years i m tired of this disease it wont go away and im having so much pain .i think this video will be helpful for me. thankyou doctor for helping and educating ppl .
@@jameelparveenj I dont know for sure in the near future I'll try it. Someone in my family had lupus for so many years and the only thing that helped her is ozone therapy and she has no problems anymore. But I would suggest do your own research. Hope you will find a cure from eczema because I suffer for so many years and I used for very long time topical steroid ointment and my skin got so thin and lifeless. Have you tried if u are allergic to something or u may have heavy metals.
If u can purchase Nivea baby sos cream can help u keep your hands moisturised because is thick. Take vit D if deficient, and try creams with higher percentage of Urea, creams with Zinc and Bepanthen +
My 4 year old daughter has eczema since she was 4 months old.. it must be genetic. She has suffered for 4 years with this debilitating skin condition. She has never slept a whole night in her life. She has been tested for allergies and even when we omit the foods from her diet that she is allergic too she still has flare ups… also when we eliminate environmental allergens she still has flare ups. Bleach baths helps
My eczema was so severe I developed insomnia and was going to participate in a study using a biological drug. This was a good overview of treatments, but like others mentioned, they are bandaid solutions. For many people, allergies may be a trigger and unfortunately an allergy test may not provide all the answers either. I had an allergy test done and nothing came back positive. It wasn’t until I tried cutting out potential triggers that I found out I was allergic to fragrances and have a sensitivity to gluten.
I'm happy and surprised to watch this video.Actually i am suffering from dyshidrotic eczema, and i accidentally did this bleach bath to my hands, never knowing that some doctors recommend this also as a temporary treatment for eczema, after i poured bleach to a basin of water then put my hands on it to wash table rags😅,i thought it would hurt my hands but it did not, instead it felt good and the itchiness subsides😊.I'll do it again next time
This all helps so so much! I haven't been able to be consistent with the creams and did the light therapy consistently for a while but I felt like I just can't get a hold on this and fix my hands. This video gave me some new ideas and tips, made me feel better that I have done and tried most things you mentioned, and more info on what the light therapy actually does and how long it lasts! So glad I invested in my own small light with Nb UVB light. Thanks for the great video!!!
Other things include: - Avoidance of fragrance, foaming surfactants, drying alcohols and other irritants on the skin or in the air. - Use of soap substitutes when washing. - Excessive sweat. Exercise is good but avoid sweating by keeping cool. - Avoidance of contact allergens which can be determined through experience or patch tests. - Patch test any new topical products. - Depending on the person, some foods and alcohol may make things worse. - Training oneself to avoid scratching as much as possible. - Using cotton gloves for hand eczema. - Colloidal oatmeal may help some. - I know alitretinoin is available for hand eczema though comes with side-effects. It's a shame that dupilumab is insanely expensive right now.
I don't know if a bleach bath would help or not. I've had this since last November and it's on my arms, full length, my entire back over my ribs, lower abdomen, scalp, one thigh, the other knee and shin. I've tried every thing from OTC products to vinegar to essential oils, oatmeal baths, castor oil, hydrocortisone to diet restrictions to $53 & $156 prescription creams. The docs did blood tests and a skin punch biopsy. Nothing at all diagnosed about bacteria. Skin biopsy said it was due to arthropod bite. Docs said no, no, no that can't be it. Next recommended: $4000/mo injections of biologics. I can't afford the money or the side effects, which can be severe. I COMPLETELY AGREE with the person who says you must find the root cause. Everything else is a soother or a bandaid. When the medical world says there is no cure they mean they don't know how to cure it. Of course there's a cure. It be different for each of us.
I give myself Dupixent shots every two weeks. Without them I could not work as the eczema on my hands is so bad that it bleeds into my nitrile gloves and pools at the finger tips. As I work with medical equipment, not wearing gloves sets me up for some pretty horrible consequences. I would have had to literally change my profession in order to survive. I have done everything you mention and without the Dupixent? I look like a blob but my hands get the worst of it. I used to duct tape gloves on at night to keep myself from scratching my palms and hands. Now I have to make sure to cream them up regularly (as I have to wash my hands all the time at work), use Eucrisa and during the winter months they get flaky but for the most part the rest of me is eczema free and the hands are pretty good. They haven't bled since a couple days after I started the Dupixient.
@@myrthasmascary4086 I have been doing bleach baths since I was a small child. It helps tremendously, but not enough to stop the bleeding. I am truly not interested in the myriad of possible pathogens I could collect if I break technique or a glove. For me this is the best answer and the one that my dermatologist recommends.
After going through chemotherapy for my eczema I was given Dupixent, It's really expensive, $1100 per shot. It has been life changing, I have been taking it for about 6 months and the only side effect is that I got an eye conjunctivitis, not too bad.
My eyelids have recurrences of eczema. I was prescribed alclometasone, but have a fear of glaucoma. My dermatologist also prescribed a non-steroid in between but it stings. When the eczema flares on my eyelids now, I use Cerave healing ointment. I have also used Skinfix eczema balm. I use a humidifier. Thankfully Curel Hydratherapy helps the rest of my body. But I'd really like to prevent the eyelid eczema, which brought me here. Thank you for this informative video.
I have eyelid eczema too. What has helped me is closing my eye, then while having my eye under the almost cold running water, very gently rubbing my closed eyelashes. The water that drips into my eye afterwards acts as a moisturizer. Then I rub a very small amount of Vaseline into the lashes, being careful not to get it into my eyes which distorts vision temporarily.
Very informative video. But one thing I wanted to know is that my younger sister is 15 years old. She uses a lot of ointments and creams for eczema and it gets better but after 15 days of cessation of treatment the symptoms start appearing again. Any prescription or advice please 🥺
I can’t give specific advice over the internet unfortunately. As the video shows, there are options other than creams for eczema, but these will need to be discussed on a case by case basis with her own doctor.
My eczema was cured for a good while with Dupixent dupilumad. Was covered by my insurance until Kaiser, as a company, stopped covering the drug. So no matter what state my insurance was in, two doses would cost me $1000 out of pocket. My symptoms and insane dryness and itchiness came back, and I was forced to schedule light therapies and stick to ointments.
I have had eczema for many years now i have been precribed by doctors/ dermatologists many different creams and steriods such as diprobase, betnovate and aloe vera gel, cerave. None of which seem to have worked. I have also travelled to different countries such as paris and india and been prescribed ointments and medications which also did not work. I've also tried herbal remedies. None of these worked for me I use vaseline personally to keep my skin moisturised and prevent dry skin. I still struggle with eczema especially in the summer months
I’ve had eczema my whole life but it has never bothered me until recently I mean the last 5 years I’m 64 years old I thought it was my allergies acting different. I’m slowly getting a😂better handle on it. It caught me offgaurd. Sometimes I’m layering moisturizer on. I do need a humidifier. Happy stratching
I have to disagree when you comes to you saying your skin loses moisture because my skin stays moisturize both with water and a barrier and I still break out. I also do not eat meat dairy or grains. On top of that I use a humidifier all year round.
2 top Dermatologists & 1 Immunologist failed to treat my severe eczema. I was even hospitalized twice for it. Then I bumped into Dr Eric Berg video on high dose Vit D (over 30,000 iu a day) for autoimmune disorder. After few months of Vit D + Intermittent Fasting, my eczema completely subsided. I’ve also stopped sugar & carb. I’m 1.5 mths into carnivore diet now to further improve my health.
Me too, I tried those and 10 other moisturiser brands but I recommend trying the one from Invity. It might be a bit pricy but it really works. I did not have as severe flareups and it did not irritate my skin at all.
I get rather severe dermatitis on the palms of my hands - blistering, red, and extremely hot - but ONLY during the week prior to my period. I'd love to understand more about this, so if anyone knows, I'd love some advice.

Hello Doc. I’ve had eczema since a toddler, went through ointments and medications. Since I was 20, I’ve had a water softener, and clear skin. If I use other water when I’m at work, my hands will start to show eczema on tops of my fingers close to the nails. It’s the simplest way to get freedom from this eczema. A water softener removes the hardness minerals, that combine with any cleaners / soap and sticks to your body, and this is how the eczema stays on your body. This is truly a Godsend.Only Military Doctors will share this info, not sure why, but have a great theory.Water softeners are also very beneficial to the entire household. You use much less soap, shampoo, bathroom cleaner, because they’re not mixing with hardness minerals. These are inorganic minerals in your water, no benefit to your body. Thank you , Russ P.

I wash my eyelids every morning under the faucet with barely warm water & gently message the eyelashes to clean everything. The water that gets into my eyes after washing lubricates my eyes making my vision better. Then because the eczema on the eyelashes is dry, I rub a very minute amount of Vaseline on the eyelash area being very careful not to get the Vaseline into my eyes which distorts my vision. This makes my eyes much more comfortable.
I saw retinol being recommended as moisture, which is surprising. According to WebMD, Retinol, or retinoids, features prominently in many skin products, ranging from anti-acne to anti-aging ones. But for people with eczema, this vitamin A derivative can irritate the skin and trigger flares
I also suffer from eczema on my thumb during winters and I get rid of it by applying moisturiser and cortisal cream. It was worst in my condition I get some serious infection to it.

Using a humidifier changed my LIFE! My skin is always glowing and soft! It also helps with my dry nose and dry mouth that I get when I sleep. When I have a flare up, I like to use prescription Elidel (pimecrolimus) cream underneath Cerave healing ointment after a shower. And I combine this all with wet wrap therapy. Takes out my flare ups like nothing! Thanks for sharing this video! I never knew that people like me had an overgrowth of a specific staph bacteria on our skin. That’s really fascinating 😁

One of the best and most informative eczema videos I’ve seen! What are your thoughts on Chlorhexadine soap and spray for eczema and general skin irritation? Can it be efficacious?
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, eating that food can create inflammation in the body. The inflammation can manifest in various locations throughout the body.
I’m definitely going to try out a bleach bath alongside wet wrapping, only using lotion and emollients (on a different night of course) and see how my skin heals. *TLDR; i seem to be the anomaly when it comes to eczema prone skin getting better as you age. It flares then calmes down, but the scars remain on my body* My eczema covers about 50% of my body (majority of my upper body, neck and sometimes my face and scalp). I’ve had steroids always being suggested as a solution, only for my eczema to come back months later SPREADING and even more severe than it was before. Contrary to the general research mine’s gotten worse as I aged (I first had it when I was around 7, and only had one patch on my inner elbow). Its been over 10 years, and I would have eczema develop in areas I’ve never had it before. Most recent emergence has been my stomach and behind my elbows. I don’t know if I’m an anomaly to this general rule of thumb, or if it was the use of steroids that got my eczema spreading and getting worse. Regardless, I’ve always been good at staying on top of moisturising. As an African girl, it was drilled into me and my siblings since were infants. It helps with the ashiness, flaking and sometimes the itching. Still, while my eczema does have phases it goes into recession, the bumpy chicken and/ or crocodile textured skin i have in some parts of it always remains. Like a scar that never truly goes away. I don’t even remember what my skin looks like without all the dark marks and texture. I’m hoping that one day I can get them to look almost as smooth as my legs🫶🏾.
I just applied this facial anti-aging cream (expensive) on my arm where the eczema was and whalla it's no longer itching and seems to be already healed after 10 minutes. I hadn't used this stuff in a couple of years just sitting in my medicine cabinet bought off of amazon.
My doctor prescribed cream But it was castor oil and vaseline petroleum jelly that treated the itchy, redness, and bumps…. Very small amount on my cheeks night and morning. I’m changing diet and keeping journal… I wanna get to the root cause
The hardest for me is the showers! I love taking hot showers but I know that my eczema is 100000x worse after it! I always shower at night and moisturize like crazy after it. I will try to lower the temp though
I have the same problem, now that i think abt it 3ish years ago i used to shower with cold water and then somehow i changed to hot water and kept it since. When i used to shower with cold water my skin would be fine but now i find myself looking red all the time so now im definitely gonna go back to cold showers

My routine for prevention of eczema.. It is really effective and I expect this will help others who facing the same condition:- Do's : 1)Always wear 💯 cotton clothes. 2)Wash clothes by using babies detergent. 3)Always Stay hydrated. 4)Eat Healthy Foods. especially (banana, anjeer, olive, orange, gooseberry, cucumber and other vegetables and dryfruits really helped me to cure eczema) "HEALTHY FOOD IS THE BEST MEDICINE FOR CURING ECZEMA" 5) Always stay in cool places.(not in severe cold) 6) Do some meditation or exercise everyday. 7) Must Sleep 6-8 hours everyday. 8) Keep stomach clean, atleast once in month. Don't ❌ 1) Must avoid drugs, junk foods and soft drinks. 2) Completely avoid 'Diary products'.(milk triggers itchiness all over the body). 3)Stay away from excess sunlight. 4) Avoid tight and artificial material clothes. 5) Avoid perfumes. 6) Don't stress too much😬. Also,For me foods like pineapple, peanut butter and some other foods really irritating my body whenever I comsume it. (MINDSET CAN CURE THIS CONDITION PERMANENTLY). Additionally,There is an injection called dupixent or dupilamab, this is very expensive. But it can cure 95% of eczema. I hope this will help for the needful. I'm giving these notes from my own experience and experiments. STAY POSITIVE ❤

Ive had bad eczema on and off my whole life. Now I am 99% clear. this is what ive learned:
- Dermatologists will prescribe steroid creams, and anti histamins, they dont fix the root cause, and it will just cover the symptoms, but the eczema will keep coming back, in my opinion they dont know how to fix eczema.
Summary:
- get tested for allergenes, remove them from your life.

@@janearchutowska Hi, i went through that for 2 years, my fingers would develop dry skin and inflamation that wouldnt heal for months. It went away when i started to suplement with 8000iu of vitamin D3.

My digestion is not great and I’ve had a stool sample analysis which said there was poor bacteria diversity. I don’t know what else to do to improve the gut as I take probiotics everyday and loads of different supplements including 4000 iu of vitamin D and eat a really healthy diet.
I got rid of my eczema by eliminating gluten, sugar and dairy in my diet.
Genetics, diet (if you have allergies or sensitivities), environment. These are the main triggers, generics being the biggest by far.

Which cerava moisturizer?

For sure, diet plays a big role in eczema, especially in those who have food allergies.

I've also learned that hot water can trigger eczema flare ups too. If you are showering, bathing, and or washing your hands always use warm water and finish up with cold to calm the skin. Cold water has became my BEST friend since I developed eczema again on my hands! Cerve also has a jar ointment as well! It's working great so far for me! the "outside-in" hypothesis has been addressed with various things like moisturizers, humidifier & steroids. the inside-out hypothesis( bad gut health, high sugar intake, gluten & other allergens, stress) could have been added which is the main cauce I believe.
about to switch to an inside-out approach.
If one has not fully conquered it means you r addressing the symptoms with the underlying condition being ignored, which is the allopathic way of treating a disorder :)
One has to look for allergic reactions, many people will have for gluten.
It's caused by:
1. Food intolerances/allergies SOLUTION: find your food triggers and allergens and minimize your intake of them
2. Stress/anxiety SOLUTION: stress and anxiety management
3. Buildup of toxins in the body such as pollen, dust, pesticides, mold, heavy metals, chemicals, etc... SOLUTION: detox, I take chlorella
4. Nutritional deficiencies in zinc, vitamin D, and omega 3 fatty acids SOLUTION: supplement with these, I take vitamin D and flaxseed oil

I still use a cream every night as it’s not good to use under makeup. It’s called Hydromol ointment and has been really great for my skin. Hope things work out for you. Sending love to you 👍🏼❤️🇬🇧
@@lynncarter3565 thanks for the suggestion, i'll check that one out. 👍
i got a tub and started using it, goes on and spreads around nicely, no reaction yet on day 2 and it seems to work quite well on leg where it's a bit flakey, skin feels soft and smoothe after putting it on and i don't have an urge to scratch which will help with healing process 👍
This was super helpful, solid thanks from Ireland. ❤❤
Ali Abdaal brought me here, today. Could I kindly request a video on your advice for Psoriasis, please? Knowing you’re a bona fide dermatologist makes a significant difference to the advice you offer. Many thanks.👍🇬🇧🌞🌞👍
Absolutely, psoriasis is a topic I’m hoping to cover very soon!
Thank you so much. And all the best with your career. I look forward to your professional advice. Much appreciated in advance.🙏🇬🇧👍🌞👍
Glad we're on the same page!
Winter has me in tears man. My skin burns and hurts and it’s on my face and is scaly.
I have the same problem. All over my face 😢 really painful
Avoid dairy products as well. The cold weather makes eczema worst.
@@sultanah937 its starts on my face , elbows, legs itch 😭 neck 😭😭
Have you heard about Ozone therapy maybe it might help with healing eczema
@@db-lj1ts no i never heard of that.does that help?
This video makes a lot of sense! You really broke it down 🙂
Cut down sugar and eat fruit and vegetables daily. Lemon ginger olive oil tea is good. Coconut water is best or oil to drink
Great video Doctor! I will absolutely start having a humidifier in my room😅
Thank you! hahaa it’s especially important in the winter months!
Could you do a video on topical steroid withdrawal?
Other things include:
- Avoidance of fragrance, foaming surfactants, drying alcohols and other irritants on the skin or in the air.
Eczema just popped up on my palms recently... naturopath found parasites in my gut. Treating that, eczema has subsided significantly!
Glad someone who knows what they’re talking about ❤
🙌🏼
That’s incredible! I’m so happy to hear it’s working well for you. It must have been frustrating to deal with… I’m such an itchy person myself.
Half cap of the little bleach caps 5 gallon of bath water
Imbalance.of minerals in the body over burden system yeast candida bacteria
@@myrthasmascary4086 I have been doing bleach baths since I was a small child. It helps tremendously, but not enough to stop the bleeding. I am truly not interested in the myriad of possible pathogens I could collect if I break technique or a glove. For me this is the best answer and the one that my dermatologist recommends.
How do you get the shots?
After going through chemotherapy for my eczema I was given Dupixent, It's really expensive, $1100 per shot. It has been life changing, I have been taking it for about 6 months and the only side effect is that I got an eye conjunctivitis, not too bad.
Look into vitamin B deficiencies and eczema ..
Eczema starts with in too.....we need to heal our gut
I don't have eczema but it was good to know the options!
@@usamasyed thanks for responding
Great as always, thank you Dr.

How is light therapy going for you?
This is a great share! Learnt so much!
Thank you!!
Wow! So insightful!! Thank you so much for this!!!🙏🏾
I’ve had eczema my whole life but it has never bothered me until recently I mean the last 5 years I’m 64 years old I thought it was my allergies acting different.
Coconut oil really help in preventing breakouts
Both of the moisturizers mentioned at the beginning exacerbated the rashes on my face. But I’ll try bleach baths!
Try vanicream.
If you don’t mind me asking you this but how do you treat it during that time?
@@jessicahola1 now, I use a topical Prednisone cream for the week. I tried to go without one month, but honestly, if I'd had access to a wood chipper, I'd have not hesitated to put my hands straight in.
@@Denidrakes69 LOL 😂. I get the dermatitis as well in my period week but it flares on the back of my hands and my eyelids. I have no solution at the moment.

Thanks for the perspective, Russ!
DIET DIET DIET DIET DIET. I’ve been dealing with eczema all my life and all I did. Was change my diet and seriously my rashes are 90 percent gone and I’ve only been doing this for a month. I’m 29 my eczema was all over my body.Cut out dairy and meat and lowered sugar consumption and I’ve never seen my skin so clear. A lot of things may appear to work on an individual basis. Scientific studies aim to collect massive pools of data to see what works most often. Glad your skin is better though!
How often did you apply it? Were you also using any other medications?

Unfortunately my Eczema is on my Eyelids....so not easy to treat. Great video though thank you.
I gave my daughter a bleach bath it helped her so much
I saw retinol being recommended as moisture, which is surprising. According to WebMD, Retinol, or retinoids, features prominently in many skin products, ranging from anti-acne to anti-aging ones. But for people with eczema, this vitamin A derivative can irritate the skin and trigger flares

i’ve lived all my life in the west and 4 years ago i moved to the east and my skin does not like the cold and ever since i’ve had eczema
What about diet, doesn't that play a role in your skin issues?
It can, for sure. If you have an allergy in particular to certain kinds of foods, it can trigger eczema flares!
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, eating that food can create inflammation in the body. The inflammation can manifest in various locations throughout the body.
I hope the lifestyle changes help in permanent cure. I tried using expensive lotions.
I’m definitely going to try out a bleach bath alongside wet wrapping, only using lotion and emollients (on a different night of course) and see how my skin heals.
*TLDR; i seem to be the anomaly when it comes to eczema prone skin getting better as you age. It flares then calmes down, but the scars remain on my body*
My eczema covers about 50% of my body (majority of my upper body, neck and sometimes my face and scalp).
Glad it worked for you!
Did it continue to work for you?
