  • The Toyota rav4 prime is an amazing vehicle. Here is how you plug it in, how the plug adapts and how to lock the plug door and also the plug while it is charging. Also show how to change some settings and to set a charging schedule.

      @@laurabyard6254 240 is mainly what something like Fridges, Washer/Dryer, Stoves and Oven Ranges are using. A regular Electrician is needed(I wouldn't do it myself unless you are trained, 120 probably won't kill you, 240 up to 480 will and arcing either of them generates a ridiculous amount of heat) He just needs to add a breaker to your box and run thick enough wires to an outlet box and you should be GTG.
      Personally its not really worth it especially if you are in a garage, plug it in 12 hours before you leave work in the morning, also keep in mind even though the tank is pressurized Fuel can and will go bad that will lead to alot of expensive repairs, I would plan to at least drain and fill the gas tank once every 2 months, some people online are saying they are going 6 months and that is not good. They basically are running it as a 42 mile EV ALL the time. Then again if you can manage running it like that, range anxiety shouldn't exist for you considering what Full EVs get range wise.

    When charging from a regular wall outlet, should I select Max Or 8A?

    • @stevenwelchtoyota
      @stevenwelchtoyota  2 года назад

      either. I would go as slow as you can for the most effective charge and to prolong the life of your battery.

    • @jiggawuhhjiggawho
      @jiggawuhhjiggawho 2 года назад +2

      Just leave the setting at Max as you’ll find charging using most standard wall outlets (being 120V/15A) takes 12+ hours to go from “empty” to fully charged. Empty is in quotes because there’s still juice (~30%) even when your dashboard shows “- -“ so your car can still switch over to Electric when idle at stops.
      Do NOT use an extension cord unless it’s thick. Minimum 10 gauge, but recommended 8 gauge thickness. FYI: the lower the number the thicker the cable is. There’s a lot of constant current being pulled through and the thinner cords will get hot and could be a fire hazard. Uncoil completely when using so there’s no proximity heat being transferred to the extension cord!

      @@jiggawuhhjiggawho XSE model has an optional 6.6 kW onboard charger which is 32 amps of charging current. Can the Rav4 be charged through a house's power outlet where the wiring is rated at 16 amps max? Shouldn't it be a cause of a house fire due to an overload of its electrical system? Of course, if you forget to limit the charging current via the settings of the vehicle as shown in this video.

    • @jiggawuhhjiggawho
      @jiggawuhhjiggawho 2 года назад +1

      @@ruslank4028 If you use the charging cable that comes with the XSE when you buy the vehicle then that is rated at 120V/12A. I will ALWAYS fully uncoil my cable so that there is no residual heat being transferred if you leave it coiled up in any way.
      Fire hazard comes more from new EV owners thinking they’re just plugging in a hair dryer and use any old extension cord when they pull up and realize their charging cable won’t reach. NOT using 8 or 10 gauge extension cords (avoid altogether if possible) AND leaving them coiled up increases the chance of fire for sure.
