Great review and sound quality! I really like that it is lightweight and passive. Beautiful playing too!

Thanks. Yes they sound really really good and are so comfortable especially because of the weight

    I've been rocking a 1982 G&L L2000E since I purchased it new in 82 , but it weighs almost 14 lbs !

If I'd have to stick to G&L, this would be my ideal bass! Exactly this model, same color, same body wood, 5 strings. Maybe I'd go for a rosewood board instead, that's just my preference, and it would match the color just as well. Amazing versatility out of just one pickup, so perfect blend of flexibility and simplicity. It's a bit sad that you have to go for a US model to get the Kiloton as a 5-string, the Tribute series is only available with 4 strings.

I have heard that empress wood (also called Paulownia) is very soft and dings and dents easily. Has this been your experience?

I’ve got a Spector RST with a Paulownia body and the wood is surprisingly hard with a tight grain. I’ve had no dings or dents over 2 years of hard gigs and rehearsals.

I've tried some basses from other brands that was soft indeed but with the coating on these basses from G&L I don't think it's going to be problem
