The music score of this movie is actually the last one by the late legend music director Madan Mohan. His music is a huge part of Bollywood cinema as it was part of the rise of Bollywood in the 50's. Actors became stars thanks to his incredible music compositions that won people's hearts. His son used unused tunes to recreate the music score of Veer Zara was made post which is why the music feels so magical. There are many temporary music directors however the magic from Madan Mohan sir is one of a kind.
There was this time in the early 2000s when the negotiations between Indian and Pakistani govt were about to become friendly and lot of movies from that era actually tried to portray indo-pak friendship with films like main hoon Naa as well. I guess the portrayal of Pakistan in Indian movies has a lot to do with the political and diplomatic ties between the two nations. Just to give you guys an idea how legendary this film is considered back here in India. Just know, that it is regularly released every year during valentine's week at few selective places in metro cities, and runs nearly houseful. It is my mother's all time favourite film, so back in Jan, my maternal grandpa passed away and my mother just was feeling down ever since. But when during valentine's week, this film was released, I forced her to come with me to watch it, we watched it in a near packed theatre, with people still screaming/shouting/hooting at the title, at the introduction of each major character, at the start of every song and even the whole theatre clapped after Veer reads his poem. It was an ethereal experience ❤

Every time I watch this, I need a load of tissues by my side. The ending makes you so happy that they finally get together but also leaves an emptiness somewhere in the heart thinking about the what ifs and if only about Veer's mom and dad, Zaara's mom and dad and of course them spending their whole youth living for the other person 😭😭😭

You should definitely try either 1.Lagaan or 2.Rang de basanti next. Both have music from A.R. and a very strong star cast. Storylines are engaging and Amir Khan as the protagonist. I think you'll definitely love them.

25:45 I am obsessed with this movie and watch it over amd over again since childhood as a Pakistani but this part is the only part/line that doesn't make sense to me cause zaara is meant to be from Lahore, Punjab (which was and IS the capital of punjab) so the part where she says you will look like a punjabi girl tonight is almost like it's implied that zaara isn't punjabi when in fact the movie is about a punjabi (indian) boy and punjabi muslim (which is the majority religion in the punjabi ethnicity) (Pakistani) girl. I think that line is there to signify the cultural nuance because let’s be real, punjab used to be fully Indian before partition. And if this part of the movie is set in 1982 (22 years before 2004) and if Hema Malinis Character is 60 at the time of that scene, it means she was born in the 1920‘s when there was no „Pakistani“-Punjab, it was all Indian. So she grew up as an „asli punjabi kudi“, before there were Pakistani Punjabi kudis. So for her it probably runs way deeper. I don’t see anything wrong with it. As Efra has mentioned this movie has tackled these issues very tastefully. I don’t see any bigoted statements or anti pakistan aspects in this film. Nor do I see any islamophobia, which unfortunately is very rare in todays Bollywood films. Yash Chopra has always been ahead of his time.

As a punjabi I am always trying to educate people on the history of punjab and the strongest ties between India and Pakistan are Punjab and about partition, like how more than the splitting of india and Pakistan; it was punjab that was ripped apart and it was our people who suffered the most loss during the bloody partition which affected millions and was the largest mass migration in history. Veer Zaara is my most favorite movie of all time. After watching it for 68 times I've stopped counting how many times I've seen it. This is in all essence a perfect movie and it still holds till now. First of all, in this political climate no one will dare to make a movie like this and if anyone could do it at that time it was legendary Yash Raj. It is a poetry that has so many layers all balanced properly not only in measure but also in timing. It is a movie that celebrates love and for me the greatest love story ever told. The music by Late Madan Mohan sir is legendary and also stands the test of time, every single track is a timeless melody. There is a track that did not make it to the movie cut - Yeh hum aa gaye hain kahaan that you should check out. It is also a masterclass in how to integrate flashbacks and songs into a movie without making it boring or abrupt in a bad way. Except for the bus crash scene the vfx and sound design is also something that was done so well. Yes in some ways the vfx can seem dodgy but it doesn't take away from the movie. The messaging isn't hammy, the dialogues are meticulously written and the screenplay truly feels like it went through several passes before they started filming. I never knew SRK and Priety as couple could work but now I don't see anyone else playing any other character. Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini's short screentime becomes the second heart of the movie. Kirron Kher embodies THE MOTHER of not just Zaara but Veer and Shabbo with such finesse like its nobody's business. No one can convince me that there is a greater love story than this in movie format that's better than this that has been made till date.

I know you loved the music of this movie. Wait till to learn that this original music was composed in private drafts by composer Madan Mohan decades ago. Decades after his death they used these drafts to create an original soundtrack for this movie and it’s today remembered as one of the best music soundtracks of all time. I love this movie it never fails to make me cry, especially in SRK monologue at the end 😭😭 I've watched it a lot of time since I was super young when all my family/country was obsessed with SRK and Bollywood all of them love this legendary movie 🤩🤩👏👏
The music score of this movie is actually the last one by the late legend music director Madan Mohan. His music is a huge part of Bollywood cinema as it was part of the rise of Bollywood in the 50's. Actors became stars thanks to his incredible music compositions that won people's hearts.
His son used unused tunes to recreate the music score of Veer Zara was made post which is why the music feels so magical. There are many temporary music directors however the magic from Madan Mohan sir is one of a kind.

There was this time in the early 2000s when the negotiations between Indian and Pakistani govt were about to become friendly and lot of movies from that era actually tried to portray indo-pak friendship with films like main hoon Naa as well. I guess the portrayal of Pakistan in Indian movies has a lot to do with the political and diplomatic ties between the two nations. Right now relations aren't good so you will see it in the movies as well
It's unfortunate because governments have ruined relations and put too much hatred specially via films.
Films like this gave hope.

You guys mentioned how a lot of bollywood movies end up being set in punjab. A lot of bollywood are punjabis and the main OG bollywood families were/are punjabis, which many of whom originate on the Pakistan side before partition. So yeah there's a lot of punjabi influence in Bollywood and Lollywood because punjab is the melting pot of culture and the Indus valley etc. Also the Indo-Pak borders run through punjab so naturally a lot of attention is on the borders and on history and inheritance etc

The music of this film was actually composed many years prior to making, or even ig thinking about making the film, by the great, Late Shri Madan Mohan Ji( recreated by his son Sanjiv Kohli for this film)... The director of this film, another legend, Late Shri Yash Chopra Ji, chose some samples from the collection of unreleased songs of Madan Ji(unfortunately which couldn't see light due to his death) on the advice of Sanjiv Kohli( u can check this out in the making of the songs of veer zara)... And d rest is history...
And 786 is considered as a holy number... So yeah like its symbolic, him having that number as his prisoner number in d film, showing him to be a God's man...

Just to give you guys an idea how legendary this film is considered back here in India. Just know, that it is regularly released every year during valentine's week at few selective places in metro cities, and runs nearly houseful. It is my mother's all time favourite film, so back in Jan, my maternal grandpa passed away and my mother just was feeling down ever since. But when during valentine's week, this film was released, I forced her to come with me to watch it, we watched it in a near packed theatre, with people still screaming/shouting/hooting at the title, at the introduction of each major character, at the start of every song and even the whole theatre clapped after Veer reads his poem. It was an ethereal experience ❤

Every time I watch this, I need a load of tissues by my side. The ending makes you so happy that they finally get together but also leaves an emptiness somewhere in the heart thinking about the what ifs and if only about Veer's mom and dad, Zaara's mom and dad and of course them spending their whole youth living for the other person 😭😭😭
If you want to explore more srk's work i really really really recommend "my name is khan" . I think he gave the best performance of his career there ❤

You should definitely try either 1.Lagaan or 2.Rang de basanti next. Both have music from A.R. and a very strong star cast. Storylines are engaging and Amir Khan as the protagonist. I think you'll definitely love them.

25:45 I am obsessed with this movie and watch it over amd over again since childhood as a Pakistani but this part is the only part/line that doesn't make sense to me cause zaara is meant to be from Lahore, Punjab (which was and IS the capital of punjab) so the part where she says you will look like a punjabi girl tonight is almost like it's implied that zaara isn't punjabi when in fact the movie is about a punjabi (indian) boy and punjabi muslim (which is the majority religion in the punjabi ethnicity) (Pakistani) girl. Loved this era of bollywood. Its sad to see that these days bollywood is making a lot of anti Pakistan movies and is feeding negativity to its audience when us Pakistanis are not like that and we are just living our lives connected to our culture. We literslly share the same colourful hibrant culture. ESPECIALLY as a punjabi
I think that line is there to signify the cultural nuance because let’s be real, punjab used to be fully Indian before partition. And if this part of the movie is set in 1982 (22 years before 2004) and if Hema Malinis Character is 60 at the time of that scene, it means she was born in the 1920‘s when there was no „Pakistani“-Punjab, it was all Indian. So she grew up as an „asli punjabi kudi“, before there were Pakistani Punjabi kudis. So for her it probably runs way deeper. I don’t see anything wrong with it. As Efra has mentioned this movie has tackled these issues very tastefully. I don’t see any bigoted statements or anti pakistan aspects in this film. Nor do I see any islamophobia, which unfortunately is very rare in todays Bollywood films. Yash Chopra has always been ahead of his time.

Hindustan were just lots of different kingdoms and historical punjab was just Punjab. Panj aab, the land of 5 rivers. Its nit thst punjab was fully indian or anything like that. Please do not think in that way I know you may not be trying or think that it is offensive but for some people who are very proud of their punjabi ancestry whether indian or Pakistani it could be taken that way. The punjab which comes under Pakistan side (lehnda) is actually very historic and very very significant in the traditions and virsa of punjab. And it is also the larger more populated side of punjab. But yeah I just wish that they had made it more clear that the Pakistan parts were also punjab since my family hail from a village in Gujrat, Punjab our village is just like the one that is portrayed as india in the movie so for people like efra and waleska who may not be as informed they may assume that its just 2 completely different places/areas/regions next to each other when in reality it is all punjab. As a punjabi I am always trying to educate people on the history of punjab and the strongest ties between India and Pakistan are Punjab and about partition, like how more than the splitting of india and Pakistan; it was punjab that was ripped apart and it was our people who suffered the most loss during the bloody partition which affected millions and was the largest mass migration in history. He died way before this movie release .....his music composition recording then got in hands of his son and then after renovating little bit they made this masterpiece music album .....❤️

Veer Zaara is my most favorite movie of all time. After watching it for 68 times I've stopped counting how many times I've seen it. This is in all essence a perfect movie and it still holds till now. First of all, in this political climate no one will dare to make a movie like this and if anyone could do it at that time it was legendary Yash Raj. It is a poetry that has so many layers all balanced properly not only in measure but also in timing. It is a movie that celebrates love and for me the greatest love story ever told. The music by Late Madan Mohan sir is legendary and also stands the test of time, every single track is a timeless melody. There is a track that did not make it to the movie cut - Yeh hum aa gaye hain kahaan that you should check out.
It is also a masterclass in how to integrate flashbacks and songs into a movie without making it boring or abrupt in a bad way. Except for the bus crash scene the vfx and sound design is also something that was done so well. Yes in some ways the vfx can seem dodgy but it doesn't take away from the movie. The messaging isn't hammy, the dialogues are meticulously written and the screenplay truly feels like it went through several passes before they started filming. I never knew SRK and Priety as couple could work but now I don't see anyone else playing any other character. Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini's short screentime becomes the second heart of the movie. Kirron Kher embodies THE MOTHER of not just Zaara but Veer and Shabbo with such finesse like its nobody's business.
No one can convince me that there is a greater love story than this in movie format that's better than this that has been made till date.

i watched this movie for the first time when i was 7-8 years old and everyone was sobbing, we had it on CD and used to re-watch it often, the songs (specially 'main yahaan hoon') was a smash hit and really popular, i really miss the old Bollywood (i haven't watched any Bollywood movies in years because of the declining quality and shift to action forward movies)
