This whole concept reminds me of the original vibe of Urban Decay. When I think back to when I was a kid, Urban Decay was sorta goth/grunge, beautifully gross, morbid curiosity kinda idea. I was super drawn to it as an angsty teen ;). I remember posting somewhere that I wasn't allowed to buy their products because my mom thought the names of the products were too macabre.

    • @kimberlysh88
      @kimberlysh88 2 года назад +34

This is exactly what I was thinking! I watched Kelly Gooch's video on urban decay recently and she talked about their roots being grunge/outcast. Urban Decay should release something like this and call it Floral Decay.

"Wilted and Jilted" is an amazing name with the inclusion of the bright lipstick. I also think it would be really cool to do something alluding to the morbid backstory of St. Valentine.
The blue-black stood out immediately to me as out of place in the swatches, but I loved your rationale for keeping it in! This is why these videos are so fun. I love seeing the thought process and how it differs from mine.

Hannah you should find a visual artist to collab with so you can build a palette and they can create the "packaging" art for it, using the colours and tones you picked out. You usually have specific visuals you're referencing, it would be cool to see that next to your selection of colours.

Every time you swatched a group of 4, I thought to myself "Tom Ford could never". 😎 If the outer packaging were something like... Dutch master still lifes of decaying roses, printed on leather, with brass tone components, I would just... 🤤💕 Also, the RUclips music library is putting some gorgeous stuff in there, my goodness. 😍

On paper, the ~decayed bouquet~ prompt totally reminds me of that gorgeous MAC collection from last fall that featured the baroque fruit still-life and rich golds on all the packaging. So many fresh, fun ideas, while the brands themselves are merely releasing the same thing over and over. Why do you think that is? I think they are trying to play it safe, but in doing that they are pushing more and more people to indie brands, looking for something different.

It’s funny how people see color differently…the pinks you said don’t fit look like dead roses to me and therefore fit the theme. The corals don’t fit IMO. And now that you’re done, I would say the greens look like dried leaves. The blue (at least it looks blue on screen) is what’s incongruous to me. And there are lots of silvery/taupey colors; I’d still add some deep, dark pink or plum…red roses with their heads drooping. Fun exercise!😊

I really cant find any and I trust you on shadows always so that would be blessing for me :)

in my experience the thing that makes my hazel eyes look the most green is the color burgundy. Especially when it's an all-burgundy eyeshadow look AND a burgundy or wine red EYELINER on the waterline. To me, it's less about the specific shadows and formulas and more about the color-any burgundy eyeshadow and eyeliner will do it :) I'll keep this in mind for future videos but I hope this helps for the time being!

My opinion, I would cut the blueish grey (which I do love) and replace with a rosey/peachy/rusty/warm terracotta. I think that's an important shade in decaying flowers that started any shade of white or pink or red. And I think that would give more harmony and balance between cool and warm. The blueish color stood out to me too before you mentioned it so I think you're spot on. Really love this concept and palette.
I would do 3 shades of lip with it, all with a warm rusty brown hue, a pale peach slightly pink with sparkle, a medium terracotta/beige/peach copper sparkle and a matte brownish red like dry blood... kinda want a med neutral brown and a muted rosey mauve too but again, all with that rusty, Peachy brown tint like all flowers get as they turn.
    I love this.

I impatiently await the day when you get to have a collaboration with lethal and this palette can get released. It’s one of the most amazing ones. I do hope that day can come soon and we can get our own HLP special palette with all its grungy textured creamy goodness.

the rituel de fille valentines day lipsticks is what I want as eyeshadows, I love that kind of morbid memento mori-esque interpretation of love and valentines themes

And if you need a soundtrack for it, I suggest "Burnt Flowers Fallen" by Type O Negative. That one goes out to all my goth sisters out there ;)
But seriously, I would totally buy this collection.

The final version is gorgeous! It is a bit dark for me, but it fits the brief so well

The final palette you made reminds me A LOT of the Lorac Fairytale Forest palette and now that I think of it I really think you’d loooove that palette. It’s grungy and textured and the pans can be removed so you can use them as singles.

Bella Beaute Bar just did a dead roses anti Valentine’s Day palette and I’m obsessed. It goes perfectly with my bouquet of dead roses!

I would purchase this in a heartbeat! I LOVE color choices and finishes. I usually don’t purchase palettes because of the “pops” of color. They’re always too pink or red or orange. Having the pop be a green is yes yes yes. Also loved the comment about the name being “Til Death Do Us Part”.

If you put this palette on the market I'd grab it. Based on the swatches. That green and that pink shimmer with all the grunge 🔥🔥🔥

I love this BYOP! I was so glad you kept the green in, I felt like it was an unexpected surprise. I could envision a look with the grungy colors on the lid and the green used as a smoked out liner on the bottom...*chef's kiss*. I actually loved the blue-supposed-to-be-black color. I thought that by keeping the green in and having that grungy blue-y grey as well that it gave the palette two solid anchors. Also, that song you used to show the swatches was PERFECT.

I don’t really wear much eye shadow and I definitely don’t wear anything other than what can pass as neutral on my eyes, but I very much want this palette and it’s because I love that touch of green and blue among these shades. Gorgeous.

I would definitely buy that palette. That colour mix is stunning! I think you are right and the forest green is needed, with the peachy coral and the few golds to create impact.

As you were putting the eyeshadows away, the mini palette at 24:32 caught my eye, could be a special edition mini!! Looks like a victorian rose. Just goes to show how great your overall taste is! Adored this video, lots of grungy love to you

I really wish this was an available pallet on the market. That green really makes it special and I'm glad you kept it in. Now that I think of it my KVD Fetish pallet is very similar to this color story.

It's really interesting to see how you build a palette based on dead flowers, because I've also curated a palette under this general theme some time ago. Our versions are quite different because I like very saturated colors and my "Withered Rose" palette was a fall palette, so it focused on warm neutrals with pops of cool-toned purples, forest greens and olives.
I think own the same charcoal shimmer, I find that Lethal Cosmetics Rise From The Ashes isn't obviously blue-toned, but it can look quite blue next to warm-toned eyeshadow, especially on camera. I actually like that you included it in your palette, because I like having a bounch of different undertones to play with.

Ok so just my suggestions -
    In your wilted echo
For the packaging - a dirty white matte all around with a (vertically aligned - so that to see it upright you'd have to hold the pallette like a book) single long stem dead rose which is almost "bleeding" into the white
Honestly this gave me such a creative rush, you are amazing! And these videos are my favorite from you!
