Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend at the time and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (28-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

The difference in vibe between the 3 singing, and David Gilmore singing with Sam Brown and the girls, is that part 1 is in B minor which gives that dark forboding slightly spooky quality, and Gilmore sings in D major which gives a much brighter and reflective vibe. (Bm being the relative minor of D major) Nice review you did not make the mistake of interupting the big solo, thanks.

You'll get to see the main four band members when they were your guys age in a recently excavated (120 to 150 years ago) Roman Colosseum in Pompeii with no audience!!

The song is about an experience Roger Waters had as a child and then later on when he felt ill before a concert. A doctor gave him a vaccination, so he could go and play the gig, but he felt „comfortably numb“, just like he felt as a child, when had a fever. The duality in the song is the doctors voice („Hello“) and the patient’s voice („Your lips move, but I can‘t hear what you‘re saying“) But it is also a song about the conflict between Roger Waters and Gilmore. On the record, Waters sings the doctor, the Pulse version is more Gilmore‘s version of the song, with the darker, more mysterious harmonies during the verse.
