In this video we'll be taking a look back at SONIC Night of the Werehog (or Sonic and Chip's House of Terror as it was known in Japan). This was a 3D GC short film released in November 2008 to promote the Sonic Unleashed video game (known as Sonic World Adventure to Japanese audiences).
This animation was produced by Marza Animation Planet, the team responsible for the Sonic Unleashed CG cutscenes and the CG in the Sonic The Hedgehog Paramount movies, and saw a free-to-watch digital release in the West. In Japan however, it got a limited theatrical release before becoming a big screen 3D attraction at SEGA's indoor theme park Joypolis, located in Odaiba, Tokyo.
I was lucky enough to catch Sonic Night of the Werehog 3D on the big screen in Japan back in the day, and it gave me a greater appreciation of just how good this short film is. So... let's talk about it!

I watched this short on youtube back in the day and I remember disliking the stretchy animation. Seeing it today I can't believe it looks as good as it does! Better than most most CGI animated movies if it's day definitely.

I agree! It's crazy the amount of effort they put into it. Really great animation - especially for a short that was made to promote a video game - 15 years ago!

Sega always knew how to make great promotion. Back then when I saw it on RUclips, this short film made me more hungry for the upcoming Sonic game than ever before. The Reason ? I like Werewolves AND Vampires. Night of the Werehog has lost nothing of his charme and is a great short, not only on Halloween. I hope we will see one day a game with Sonic the Vamphog.

I feel like a sequel where Sonic is the were and shadow is the vamp would be super fitting, but only if it can make sense to the plot/story and/or be fun like the game itself made then was.

@@oneandonlysound3453 I know what you mean. But even when we´ll never get the game in the way you´re talking about. I think, there are enough fanpics and fanfiction about it on the net.

Awesome stuff. Gotta say I have no idea why we never got a full length feature film like this, as it gels together so well! It really does have a Pixar like polish to it, with very aesthetically pleasing character designs. I just remember watching this years ago somewhere and wanting more! What animation studio was involved in this? Or was it all developed in-house?
Also, fabulous to see Joypolis!! I bet that was such a great experience to see that there! Awesome stuff!
    Great video as always Hilltop!

I am pretty sure I saw the short film on jetix in the UK after episodes of sonic X at least that's what I remember and have always been impressed by the visuals of it. doesn't help that unleashed is my favourite of the boost formula games

Isn't technically the first Sonic movie is Sonic Christmas blast, while theatrical one is the o.v.a.?

I remember when this came out because all I kept seeing was rule34 of the ghost lady.
That seems to be the only way I'm made aware of stuff these days. I've never seen the show Helluva Boss but I've seen rule34 of that hellhound lady more than I've seen my own face in a mirror.
If war broke out in the UK, I'd probably find out by some kind of fanart.

    • @HillTopTerebi
      @HillTopTerebi  Год назад

Hahaha I had to Google rule 34 but I had correctly assumed what it was based on your comment. It doesn't surprise me at all that fan art of that nature exists of that character.
I'd say this is probably the best way to find out news on global events. It would take the sting out a bit if a war broke out and it was revealed through erotic fan art I'd imagine?

Is it me or does the haunted house look like Johnny In the Mist's house from The gegege no kitaro manga. (I read the drawn and quarterly translation which takes that story from the original Hakaba Kitaro comics and presents it as the current name of the series.)
