I had one many years ago, 1700 crossflow Super Sprint. Only 135 bhp but a fabulous noise thanks to the twin Webbers. As I approach 70 I still think back with fond memories, the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Sadly their days may be numbered, an electric 7? On your bucket list everyone before it is too late.
Build my 310S last year - simply the most fun car ever! Have been to Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park on track days in it too - an absolute blast, as they're basically made for the track. I drive it all year round, no worries (get a half hood rather than the supplied full hood though). IMHO 310S an ideal spec for spirited road use, think about more power (420R) if you're going to track it regulalrly.
@@CarFocused Go for it, you won't regret it ;-) Building it was a LOT of fun - I learned loads and the car really feels like a personal thing. Makes me slightly cautious at the track though lol
Gonna call you out on being able to have a boring daily! RS is my daily, while the Caterham lives in the garage. Nothing is as pure a driving experience as a Caterham! 😁
@@grassdonut1183 Caterham is a 310S with some extra bits. Caterham probably feels quicker just because it’s close to the ground with the wind in your hair
Good review 😊👍 well researched and nice that it's the original series 3 chassis 👍. Bought my K series 3 summers ago only 120bhp but its an absolute hoot to drive!! I'd only consider selling it if I was going to buy another 🤪
@@CarFocused Deffinately it was literally Insane if it wasn't for the British weather I would have baught a 420 S. What I will say though is I tried a 420r sequential gearbox and hated the sequential box.
I'm building a caterham/westfield inspired chassis myself. 13b powered for the amazing sound , lightweight and high rev range. It'll be a ripper. Goal is about 210/215whp and 540kg.
Another good video. Bet it was great laugh in that thing. Caterham have an interesting choice of engines, would i be right in saying the 1.6 sigma is quite an old engine, like the original fiesta zetec s and what was put in the puma if they didn't use the 1.7. I look forward to the next video, hope to see the RS again.
Does it have isofix? 🤔😁 Looks like great fun. Best driving fun I've ever had was in a go-kart grand prix with 25 mates so I can see the appeal of the Caterham
Car Focused reminds me exactly what got me interested in cars - just the raw fun of driving something mechanical. Lost interest in a lot of the very modern stuff. They are better in every way but you don’t feel as connected. I regularly look at the caterham configuration. Nice vid - more like that please
@@CarFocused that's the plan :) I've only done a drift day in one and that was enough to plant the seed. Given you've had a clio and a mk3 RS too, glad your video confirms it's a good decision haha
What is the grip level like in the dry? Possible to get the back end out or do you really have to be trying? Concerned that modern Caterhams have too much grip for their own good... Looks great fun to slide around in the wet
You can get the back end out easily with a little throttle. You find yourself deliberately going sideways round your favourite roundabouts and bends just for fun. They are easily corrected with a flick of the right foot. In the wet I was very careful with mine, I preferred to avoid the wet if possible. Tyre choice is important better to have semi slick and drive on sunny days.
Found out you can get them out here in Australia. Wife says I can have one as soon as I've made $2 million. Well I say me but really it's companies I'm invested in and Tesla's my biggest by far. So between 7 & 10 years probably. Don't believe the rubbish they say about us Tesla Fan Boys, I just want fun cars and modern ICE types don't do it for me.
@@CarFocused Yeah I know mate, just messing! A Caterham is a tricky subject in my opinion because I understand their fun factor but in the UK they don't make much sense to buy as you'd own really use on a summers weekend or taking to a race track (ideally trailer it) and if you don't do either; it begins to become a ormanent gathering dust like my EP3 track car; the question is knowing the life you live day to day with UK british weather would you still hand over your cash and buy one? #WaitingForHate

Hi mate just a question, what feels faster accelerating? And what model caterham you got

These go karts are all about pure handling 👍
Glad to see you feature a Caterham on the channel, they're SO much fun, aren't they!
@@CarFocused I had the 620S, same engine but 5-speed manual, not the sequential setup.
Have a longing for one of these. No BS just a driving machine.
I have driven the Caterham 420s and that was a total hoot I loved it.

Brilliant idea for a video mate, I've never even given these a 2nd glance before 👍
Would love to have a go in one of these, proper drivers car

Not sure I could ever bring myself to buy one of these, but would love a go!
100% - There is nothing else on the road that gives you that sensation. They are like nothing else.
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Those seats do not come with the R pack. They're a £800 optional extra.
30k of pure fun😛
Nice and quiet though 😉
Superb vid and review keep them coming👍
I’ve just run this car spec through Caterham’s Configurator and factory built its £36k (Oct 2020) new. Still worth it though 🏎💨💨💨

Thanks!
Did you like it though? Hard to tell... 🤷♂️😉 Seriously, nice vid.
I'd take this over your Ford phallus any day 👍
It has a heater, what more do you need.

Selling my clio182 to buy one of these, good timing with the video haha
@@CarFocused yeah, an ex race car I think as plan on sprinting and hillclimbing it, plus trackdays. Plus they're about 10k cheaper!

@@ianscott3180 Thanks for the insight. When I hired a 310 I found it quite challenging to unstick (bone dry day). No doubt much easier in the wet
