They look fantastic! Much better than the 1 1/2 Autometers that I used. Don't worry about what other 71-73 owners think, it's your car, do what YOU want! I enjoy your vids!
05GTdriver crap man. Now you got me thinking about reconsidering my decision. I completely forgot about them and that rig looks amazing. Looks like ill be sending that mini tach back to summit and pulling my cluster. Thanks a bunch for your advice and I truly appreciate it! More vids to come.
Looks fine, but that tiny little tach looks out of place IMO. I had mentioned that RCCinnovations sells a tach based on the '71-'73 idiot light gauge and is a plug and play and looks 100% stock(they use the stock Mustang gauge mounting base and it all bolts up to factory circuit board). Just a suggestion.
Hey I am wanting to do something like this. However the center console on the 72 I'm working on looks a little different. Any photos on the finished product?
I just Finished doing this for my Mach great Idea. The only exception is Im running an after market hood tack so I don't have to look down. I also run a switch panel above the ac vent. summit part MOR-74133.
I tried to restore the original gauges but ended up breaking one or two so I bought some similar gauges and installed them in a new wood grain center dash for my 1972 convertible. It had the factory tach so I put the oil, volt, and temp gauges in the same order as the original gauges. Instead of opening the holes, I glued the gauges to the holes from the back with RTV. I think they actually look better than his since they are recessed some in the holes and I have blue lights and blue LEDs in the main gauges that match my blue car.
I thought this was excellent. I am in the process of copying the idea for my 72 Convertible. I didn't even have the center bezel so I ordered it. (Do I need a map light). Where did you get the gauges and what are the sizes ? If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate knowing asap. Thank you
Yeah I can see the tach perfectly from my vantage point. No need to be starring at it as the car is an automatic and I'm not racing it. I don't want an unglued tach mounted up on the column. Volt gauge is useless because I have a 1 wire alt.
i have vdo gauges , the oil one is not seriously accurate , the speedometer i been having issues with the pointer needle acting like a rpm gauge instead of a speedometer , get my drift ? so i don't know what to make of it really . just saying and they are all new ? go figure , the vdo web site is hell to navigate , tech line is ok they will call you back . on and on ,
That tach won't be in your line of sight you should have went with a volt gauge there. But you'll see soon enough, as well as why almost everyone mounts the tach on the steering column.
The reason for the tach in the line of sight was drag racing. No need to even have a tach if you aren't racing or bagging on the car acting like a child pretending they are in the fast and furious. Shifting is done by ear so you Don't need it for that either. Personal preference but at some point we all grow up.
I prefer the Mechanical Water Temperature Gauge it requires no electrical connection except for the light. www.vdo-gauges.com/instruments/by-type/water-temperature/vision-black-265-deg-f-mechanical-water-temperature-gauge-wit-72-capillary-12v.html

That's a quick response on a year old post. I'll have to put mine on there soon.

can you tell us what size gauge you used and style?
Nicely done!
What size gauges are they
Looks almost stock, good job.
How did you mount them so they stay in place?
+James Garland there's a metal bracket that pinches the back very slightly but enough to hold them nice.
Where did you order the tach from?
What are the parts number?
I think this is great can you provide more specifics on the replacement gauges please

Hey BUDDY. I am pretty sure that's the gauge that I am running with already installed. Right?
Does it have a long cable attached to the gauge that can't be removed?
