This is one of THE most absurd, over the top quintessential, 80s videos ever! The break dancing, the dance/fighting, the guitar solo, glass breaking, the non-smiling femme fatale, the two hour hairdos… I freaking love it!!!
As a mobile dj, when I throw this in the mix, im always amazed how fast the dance floor fills up, including young people asking me who is this by. Epic song
Footloose was released 40 years ago!! Bacon went to the high school where it was filmed. He looks great too. Just rewatched it last week, incredible soundtrack
+April Krabe Purple Rain,Shaft,Superfly,& Saturday Night Fever but SNF was not specifically written for the Movie! You must be under 40 and White:) no offence!
This is a great song..Howard Hewitt excellent singer Micki Free an excellent guitarist...And the lady did her best as well the was a huge hit and still sounds great today....
Used to dance to this in the clubs back in the day! Now only in my livingroom :-) Love it still. It never gets old ♥ Thanks for posting this one, this was when music was fun and good! ♥♥
Again one of my favorite videos! What a great band they made. Brings back such good memories. I remember being in HS and wanting to be in a video with them so badly. I would sing and dance to them all of the time.
I never put two and two together, so way back in the day. The transition between the albums "The Look" and "Heartbreak". At first I'm like, "That ain't Jody!?!?!" LOL "And who's that other guy?? That ain't Jeffery?" Needless to say, here's where all the gossip comes together revolving around Howard's "solo" career....with backup and what Shalamar originally was. It just ain't the same without Jeffery and my girl Jody. I use to watch Jeffrey and Jody on Soul Train, dancing. Back when TV's still had knobs, lol. They could do a hell of a line routine together. DAMN I'm old! LOL
Both Jody and Jeffery were both living in Englan at that time in 1984! Jody working as a session musco and later on in the year sing in charity single-Do they know Its Xmas. + Jeffery was in West End cast for Starlight Express! Must of known that after you saw that song as was said in loads of TV stuff. etc

SHALAMAR is one of the greatest soul bands in music history period! This classic track from 1984 shows there versatility with Micki Free killing it on guitar!

FANTASTIC SONG OF MID 80'S I want a time machine to go back to the time when music was AWESOME !!! THE SAGA CONTINUE at the Pan Pacific Auditorium !!! SHALAMAR looks a lot like ZORO in the bar, HA HA HA !!! Shalamar shot the American Top 20 in 1984 with "Dancing in the Sheets" from the Footloose movie soundtrack, with a spike at # 17.
This is one of THE most absurd, over the top quintessential, 80s videos ever! The break dancing, the dance/fighting, the guitar solo, glass breaking, the non-smiling femme fatale, the two hour hairdos… I freaking love it!!!
And the Zorro costume for good measure...
If this video was shot in 2024, as soon as the fight started, everyone else would’ve had their phones out and on record.

Yes. Cheesyness with appeal.
Reminds me of the Billy Ocean video loverboy.
Shalamar was sooo underrated...they made a lot of great dance songs back in the early 80's.
Never heard that bfor
Late 1970's into early/mid 1980's SHALAMAR Ruled DancePOP Rhythm and Soulful Dance FUNKY/BlackLatin Groove music-mix world..!

Footloose and fancy free. 2024
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
I get it~ boy do I get it....this song gave me that deep sense of nostaglia too and I yearn for those 80's days.
Bleep77 has got great taste in music 😎
Why I like to listen to it once in a while. Very well said.
Same here!
They played this all the time at the skating rink. I have memories of those times
Give it up people of today! The 80's had the best music.
Prince had the whole game shook back in the 80's.
As a mobile dj, when I throw this in the mix, im always amazed how fast the dance floor fills up, including young people asking me who is this by. Epic song
Um, not so young too mate. 28 years later I am still dancing
Dancing in the sheets is an amazing song 🎶 🎸 Footloose was an awesome movie 🎦

Micki Free was fine af!! 😛😍
@@cyn88true92 Oh hells yeah!!
1999 rip-off.....hope Prince got paid
He may have produced this song and others on this record.
It could be because Prince was really tight with Micki Free around that period.
Footloose 🕺💃🕺💃🪩

@ Douglas Brayden….. u are so right, dear sir!
Loved it then, love it now!! Mikki Free!! 💙
Footloose (1984), brought me here. A classic tale in which a hero (Kevin Bacon) rescues a town of people with sticks up their butts into dance.
"Who put the sticks up their butts? That's mean."
+velociraptor4you The er...parents "doh"
Caius I see.
"Its just a phrase."
Frank Conquest Jr is this song in the soundtrack????
Again one of my favorite videos! What a great band they made. Brings back such good memories. I remember being in HS and wanting to be in a video with them so badly. I would sing and dance to them all of the time.
Brings back awesome memories growing up x gen rocks
I love the hair and clothes. Go 1980's!!!
msalis1 🤘🤘😀 Absolutely!!

Is that the same Art Deco building from the movie Xanadu? ✨
This. Song. Is. Perfection. Thank You, Shalamar!
And, so is the video! Thanks, MTV!
This song was so much fun in 1984 and still is in 2020!
This was after Jody Watley left. Howard Hewett said she wasn’t shit without him and ended up being more successful that Shalamar ever was!!!!!
He had one hit song
Strait 80's at it's best!
Flashbacks to the clubs! Best time of my life!
Gen X:
"This is Doctor Johnny Fever of WKRP in Cincinnati. The hits of the 80s never stop and keep rockin to the hits."
Miki free dance moves were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fine as hell!!
Shalamar hit #17 in Billboard, 5-26-84.
Class track from Footloose!
You mean classic.
I remember this song from 83.
I REMEMBER TWAS ALSO ON FOOTLOOSE SOUNDTRACK
and its over 40 years now in 2024. Most of the singers in here are in their 60's and 70's.
They still together some of them and touring now in essex dec !!
That guy can squeeze more feeling out of his guitar than 99% of the guitarist today.
Always a Shalamar fan.
What a nice and unforgettable time in 80's.

Loved dancing to this out in the clubs with friends in the 80's! Just good muisic ♥
Music not muisic.
Unsung brought me here. Shalamar had three ultra talented artists in the same band.
Fuera de este mundo Shalamar.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm proud to be an 80s baby, but those handclaps are totally 80s!!! It goes well with the song!!! And that damn Howard Hewett is so damn sexy!!!!

Great Shalamar song; typical mid 80's sound!
FABULOUS
I really liked to dance to this in the 80's and I still do in 2018! Still a cool and danceable jam!
Wow great to hear this Love It❤
It smells Prince everywhere... pure Minneapolis sound influence.
Pretty sure Prince wrote this, as a matter of fact he wrote most of the songs for Morris Day too.

What a great jam! One of the greatest dancing songs of all time. Sure brings back the 80's. Is that Mark Breland, the boxer in the video?
The late 70’s 80’s and early 90’s had the best music🎼💯
Another video with the late great Pan-Pacific Auditorium (also known as the club called XANADU).

Just when disco was thought dead, this jam brought it all back 80s style
I'd almost call it funk before disco, but it was definitly keeping the spirit of DANCE alive!

I caught you smiling
I know I've seen you here before
How come you're hiding?
Hey don't you want to hit the floor?
The place is crowded
Or maybe you don't like the beat
I got a two-track playing in my head
So let me take you somewhere else instead
Dancing in the sheets
Dancing in the sheets
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I want to take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off of your feet
You and me, we should be dancing in the sheets
Dancing in the sheets
We feel the rhythm
We've got the music on our side
If we go with 'em
I'll bet we'll have a wonderful ride
Your hands are cold
So maybe we could make some heat
Love is always born on a chance
So wrap around me and baby let's dance
Dancing in the sheets
Dancing in the sheets
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I want to take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off of your feet
You and me, we should be dancing in the sheets
