This is one of THE most absurd, over the top quintessential, 80s videos ever! The break dancing, the dance/fighting, the guitar solo, glass breaking, the non-smiling femme fatale, the two hour hairdos… I freaking love it!!!

I never put two and two together, so way back in the day. The transition between the albums "The Look" and "Heartbreak". At first I'm like, "That ain't Jody!?!?!" LOL "And who's that other guy?? That ain't Jeffery?" Needless to say, here's where all the gossip comes together revolving around Howard's "solo" career....with backup and what Shalamar originally was. It just ain't the same without Jeffery and my girl Jody.
I use to watch Jeffrey and Jody on Soul Train, dancing. Back when TV's still had knobs, lol. They could do a hell of a line routine together.

Plus, this song was out when shows like Pac-Man, Rubik: The Amazing Cube, Saturday Supercade, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Mr. T, Smurfs, Shirt Tales, Monchichis, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, The A-Team, The Fall Guy, Magnum, P.I., Knight Rider, The Dukes of Hazzard, Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Simon & Simon, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, $ale of the Century, Daytime Wheel of Fortune, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Benson, T.J. I caught you smiling
I know I've seen you here before
    How come you're hiding?
Hey don't you want to hit the floor?
    The place is crowded
Or maybe you don't like the beat
I got a two-track playing in my head
So let me take you somewhere else instead
    Dancing in the sheets
    Dancing in the sheets
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I want to take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off of your feet
You and me, we should be dancing in the sheets
    Dancing in the sheets
    We feel the rhythm
We've got the music on our side
    If we go with 'em
    I'll bet we'll have a wonderful ride
    Your hands are cold
So maybe we could make some heat
Love is always born on a chance
So wrap around me and baby let's dance
    Dancing in the sheets
    Dancing in the sheets
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I want to take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off of your feet
You and me, we should be dancing in the sheets
    Dancing in the sheets

As part of the Footloose soundtrack, just 40 years ago, this song peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. On that same week, "Let's Hear It for the Boy" by Deniece Williams, another song of the Footloose soundtrack topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks.

My cousins wore the belts wrapped around their thighs. I thought they were so hip and cool. I was only 12 at the time , great memories.

On this day in 1984 {April 7th} Shalamar performed "Dancing in the Sheets" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was at #45 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; seven weeks and one day later on May 20th, 1984 it would peak at #17 {for 2 weeks} and spent 18 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #9 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club songs chart...
Exactly five years earlier on April 7th, 1979 they were on 'Bandstand' performing "Second Time Around", it would peak at #8 on the Top 100 and stayed on the chart for 23 weeks...
Between 1977 and 1987 the trio had twenty-two records make Billboard's R&B Singles chart; five made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Second Time Around" for one week on February 10th, 1980...
They just missed having seven Top 10 records when "Take That to the Bank" and "Games" both peaked at #11...
