    We significantly upgraded on the Apex, and in about a week, on Edge. Yes, the Sky Suite is more expensive, but The Retreat experience is incredible. Once you've tried one, you're spoiled. I really love the ships, but yes, the 'creepy tunnel' is weird. But Eden is the best dining experience I've ever had at sea.

      Thanks for info! Appreciate your insight. So you prefer Eden to Luminae!? It's a dream of mine to give Luminae a full review. Unfortunately the suite prices are out of reach for me but I would love to hear your opinion on. What did you think of Luminae?!

      @@tomsunday Eden was an experience that I will never forget. Luminae had great food, incredible service, and a few signature cocktails I enjoyed. Suites are definitely pricey. But now that I've been spoiled, it's the only way for me to go. Maybe less often, however!

      Does Celebrity Edge have Table Tennis available? Or mini golf?

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  Год назад +1

      @Dawn Bowman no mini-golf but they have table tennis on deck 15 or 16. 2 or 3 tables if I remeber correctly. If you are interested, my walking tour video will show you everything on the ship.

    We just returned from the Celebrity Edge cruise to Alaska. It was fabulous! I agree with all the comments that you made about The Edge. Very friendly and helpful crew, great food, excellent entertainment. And we are some of those who vote “Yes” on the closed balcony/veranda. It still provides the view and you can open the window if you like the breeze. And we liked the safety. Wonderful ship with all the amenities that you expect on a Celebrity ship.

      This is a discussion that is really interesting to read in Celebrity forums. It may be kind of 50/50 with a lot of long-time Celebrity cruisers preferring Solstice and not liking the Edge ships. I'm one of them. I really kind of dislike the Edge ships. My favorite class was the Century class and they had zero specialty dining options when it first was built. However, you need them these days and Solstice has plenty of them.

    We went on the Edge last Feb. We have cruised 7 or 8 times in the past. I am a big foodie and decided to spend more more for a Celebrity cruise since everyone was raving about the food. I was bitterly disappointed and found it was no better than eating at an Applebee’s! Most dining rooms kept repeating the meal choices and there was absolutely no fancy decoration on the plates normally present in any top restaurant. What a miss considering the meals were supposedly created by a top rated world chef. The buffet however was excellent. Unfortunately I will never sail on Celebrity again.

      Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Celebrity had a lot of recent changes in the food department. These changes make the food below average at best. Unless you pay for specialty dining.

      @@tomsunday Celebrity may need a new president. One that cares about what Celebrity is and really understands where they came from and why what they are doing now is unacceptable to those that have a real history with the line. Newcomers are going to be impressed by the Edge ships, well some of them. I'm not. Hopefully, someone in some capacity fixes the issues with the Edge class (deleted areas from the Solstice ships that matter). Bring back Michaels' or some sort of piano bar to the general public, an observation lounge, a card room, a true swanky lounge like the Crystal Room from the retired Century or at least Ensembles from Solstice (but with a dance floor). Bring veranda cabins in and not force them. Don't put quiet specialty restaurants over the sometimes noisy Martini Bar in the Grand Plaza. Maybe make a few specialty restaurants true supper clubs to give them more use and more of a swanky feel and ambiance. And make Eden organized. Maybe that type of space is best done as dedicated in a particular area and the other parts of it can be for lounging but not interacting with the entertainment. Why does Solstice have a small theater where a comedian can perform or movies can be seen and the Edge ships try to stuff it all into the Club, the only real dance club on the ship.
      But in terms of food, go back to the Meridian and early Horizon/Zenith days and look at the presentation of those dishes. There are videos and pictures of them. Look at the sauces used in the main dining rooms. Look at how the linen was placed at either end of food serving trays. Remember how waiters served women first and always from the right when possible. There were so many truly premium touches this line established and the food was truly great. Adding IMO too many specialty restaurants on your new ship class doesn't excuse not delivering in the main dining rooms. I think buffets have been improved and sometimes some food is still very good. But it's nothing like it can be, should be or used to be.

      There are tons of things to do!. This was recorded at around 10 am on a sea day. Most folks were returning from breakfast. Although they have activities all thru the day, most are scheduled for evening/night. Have you ever been on a cruise! I would love to hear more about your opinion. I am making a video on why people don't love cruising and could feature your answer.

      @@tomsunday So far I did 3 cruises all with Royal Caribbean and they have basketball court, tennis tables, wall claiming, water slides, arcade games rooms and more, I didn't see any of those in your review. I have two kids age 12 and 16 and for them those are must on a cruise. I do like cruise and the only thing I didnt like is the lines for the major activities the bigger the boat the longer the lines.

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  Год назад +1

      @BOO you make very valid points. Celebrity is more of an adult line. They are different from Royal in that sense. While owned by the same company, there focus more on luxury. Royal ships are built more like theme parks. I've been on both. It's tough to decide which is better. If you are vacationing with kids, Royal is definitely the way to go!

      @@tomsunday The Edge class has a major shortcoming in its lack of lounge venues. No Michael's, no Rendezvous, no Sky Lounge, no Ensemble's Lounge. The Retreat lounge is for Suite pax only, so it doesn't count IMO. There was a time on ships like the Zenith, all of 48,000 tons where you can go to the Horizon Lounge on top of the ship, the Rendezvous, the Celebrity lounge aft, Harry's Tavern, and find different types of music and atmospheres to enjoy yourself. Same is true of the bigger Century ships. On Millennium ships you lost the aft lounge but had the other spaces and a lounge situated above the Rendezvous. The Century ships brought in Michael's cigar lounge at first then at one time they were a piano bar (that's when they were at their best use IMO). I did not like making them for suite passengers on the Solstice class. The lack of imagination and inclusion in terms of social lounges on the Edge ship is something a lot of adult, premium Celebrity cruisers point out as a major shortcoming. And that is a ship activity and ambiance that premium cruisers desire. I understand not everybody prioritizes lounges. But lounge life is a major part of every cruise line. HAL provides 4 of them on the Pinnacle ships. Princess has at least 3 of them on the Royal ships and will have maybe 4 of then on the Sphere class ships. Edge ships would be so much better if they'd found places to put in a few lounges. They should have a least two. Without them, they're wanting by the type of cruiser that likes lounges (with dance floors or that are elegant with sea views). And the Club is a dance lounge but it is a nightclub, something like a larger format of a disco area of some ships or Quasars in the Solstice class). It really is the only dance type of lounge on the whole ship. that's woefully inadequate for any size of ship let alone the size of ship the Edge class is.
      btw, I consider Cafe al Bacio as a coffee/pastry venue and Craft Social as a sports bar. Cellar Masters was more of a lounge but that's going away, even on Solstice class ships and they're turning it into Craft Social, not an extremely premium thing to do. World class bar is too small to be considered a lounge and is more a bar with a small seating area overlooking the Grand Plaza on the Beyond and Ascent.

    The creepy tunnel is a very good description! Solo traveler here and I am considering the Edge for a western Mediterranean cruise in September to celebrate retirement. Never done a cruise solo before, but I know there are some who do. Sounds like you would recommend the ship.

      Hi Rick! I would highly recommend the Edge. It's a pleasure to cruise on it. I noticed a few solo cruisers on this trip. They seemed to be having a good time. I noticed a few activities on the ship as well that were geared towards single travelers. I always wanted to see what those rooms look like. If you do end up going, please let me know your thoughts. I would love to hear about your experience. Cheers, Rick! Nice to meet you.

    7:09 you don't like it well people paid a lot of money to be there if you paid lot of money you can go there

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  6 месяцев назад

      i don't like that the front of the ship is locked behind a paywal. A lot of people that go on cruises love ships. The front of any ship is an iconic area that offers amazing sights and sounds. Anyone on a cruise should have the ability to go check it out.
      If I were to use your logic, then maybe lower paying customers should not be allowed outside at all. Suite guest paid a lot of money, right? Why doesnt everyone pay a lot of money so they can go there? This is not a very good argument at all.
      Bottom line is that the suite area should have been designed somewhere midship. This would allow everyone to be able to walk around the entire vessel and enjoy it. Similar to how they do it on S and M class ships.

      Art usually hangs on the wall. Sculptures are displayed and most exhibits are not placed in the middle of a busy hallway. This may be artistic, and im all for it, but its creepy and inefficient. Also, i do have bad eyesight. Its why I wear glasses Terence.
