If you’re a fan of Halloween 2018, you probably love this series I’ve been doing, because that film is getting a lot of representation.
But before 2018, there was already a sequel to Halloween. It was More Of The Night HE Came Home.
Now that the dust has settled, which film is the sequel to the first film?

Halloween 2 is a much better sequel to the original.
However, I do like Halloween 2018 more. Meaning, I enjoy it more as an overall movie. Halloween 2 feels like two 15 minute sequences that are good at the beginning & end with a middle that makes me fall asleep. The 2018 film flows much better in my opinion.

Halloween 2 is the better halloween 2. The brother plot twist is so iconic, and gives michael a motivation. I understand michael works better as someone who kills for no reason, but here me out. Michael trying to recreate his sister’s death with Laurie is more horrifying imo. “Killing because he wants to” is not as scary. I don’t hate the no reason motive, im just saying my opinion. Plus the no reason motive is in the sister motive, when he wants to kill Laurie because he wants to recreate his sister’s death for no reason.
H2 is also better than H18 because H2 feels more like the original Halloween, using that same blue tone to make us feel like we’re in Haddonfield. H18 has a warmer tone, which is kinda more yellowish. It’s more Halloweeny, but I feel the blue tone is better. It’s a nice more cold tone which feels scarier. I also really adore Dick Warlock as Myers. He’s a bit robotic, but I don’t mind it. I still think Dick Warlock did fine.
H18 is easily top 5 but H2 is easily in top 3. I love both the movies, but I prefer H2.

Those guys had the bright idea of claiming that they would make the 'legitimate' sequel to the first film. Anybody who has listened to Carpenter's diatribes through the years would recognize that this was genius. It was the perfect way to put down all the other sequels, and grovel for Carpenter, all in one fell swoop!
I love 2, 4, and 5. For me, that's the series. Everything after that was just them trying to fix something that wasn't broken.

Halloween II is my fav sequel between the two. I actually think I love Halloween II more than the OG 1978 Halloween. Not saying it's a "better movie" but it's more enjoyable and I prefer II over OG. I'm also a huge fan of the family plot, compared to the random fate based story driving trilogy. I will say 2018 looks great. I think the cinematography for the recent trilogy is top notch and the best behind RZ, IMHO and for my taste for a horror slasher vibe.

I prefer 'Halloween II' over 'Halloween 2018' because the story in the first one unfolds on the same night, maintaining the tension. Although I have to admit, I didn't like the part where they shoot Michael Myers in the eyes, but I understand that the movie isn't perfect. As for 'Halloween 2018,' the idea of staying in the same town for 40 years doesn't make sense to me. I mean, a mentally ill person killing 5 people wouldn't lead to prolonged collective hysteria. Additionally, the whole concept of Michael Myers escaping after being locked up for so long just doesn't seem believable.

  • @Wglass90
    @Wglass90 4 месяца назад

Halloween II is the better sequel because it's pretty much a continuation of the first taking place the same night, which was brilliant. You didn't even need the whole brother-sister connection plot because it didn't really change anything or enhance the plot much, and it still could've been the same movie. Michael could've still stalked and killed people in town before running into Laurie at the hospital and then getting killed and burned by Loomis to end the story. The only reason it was done was because the studio against John Carpenter's wishes wanted a reason for all of this happening rather than it being random and Michael being the personification of evil. The more they humanize Michael and the more we know, the less scary he becomes.

Halloween '18 is a good legacy sequel that gets soured because it basically started the legacy sequel trend and it just kinda falls a bit short for me. • @KingRichard1013

For me personally there really is no definitive true sequel to the original for me it’s not Halloween II or 2018. I think both of them are good in their own way not only that but it’s tough for me to choose if I like both. And I’m gonna be a little honest I’m glad that they got rid of the whole brother and sister storyline. Because for me personally it’s just not that interesting Michael Myers is scarier when he has no motive and he just kills at random because that for me just adds to the mystery and to the intrigue. He’s now back to being the shape the bogeyman and the embodiment of pure evil. Even John Carpenter hated the idea that’s why he had a down a pack of beer while he was writing the script because he just couldn’t think of anything until he stumbled upon making them being siblings. And for me it’s a bit of a cheap Copout and a bit lazy. It’s like I just feel like they’re stealing ideas from the Empire strikes back because that film came out a year before Halloween II. And I felt like they tried to rip off the whole Luke I am your father thing. For me they should’ve never made Laurie and Michael siblings to begin with they should’ve just kept Michael this mysterious force of nature and honestly I really don’t give a crap about any backstory’s or the lore of Michael Myers like I don’t wanna know anything I like not knowing anything I like the whole fear of the unknown angle with Michael Myers. And honestly I’m tired of him just going after family members all the time he killed his sister when he was a young boy and that should’ve been that he’s just a lot scarier when he targets at random. Because that was John carpenters vision from the very beginning and that’s what Halloween 2018 tried to stay true to they tried to stay true to John Carpenter’s vision for the character of Michael Myers.

Loomis & cinematographer was H2s lifeline, its script & pacing makes the new trilogy seem next level in comparison. People think Ends showdown was bad, but overlook the marko polo showdown of prt 2 lol. Every entry is flawed good or bad, but the new trilogy is far closer to what i wanted from a continuation from 78. The best thing to come out of that stupid sibling twist was H4 by a long shot

Both are close to the heart; I love how Halloween II picks right up from where Halloween left off, two movies made to feel like one. Some intense moments w/Michael after Laurie. Learning she was his sister was a shock, but it seemed very unrealistic that her mom told her in such a callus way; I got the impression she had a strained relationship with her parents but that dream/repressed memory scene made her mom seem cruel, that didn’t work for me. And her remembering visiting Michael, that look of hate for her on is face and in his eyes still chills me. I like to think all if Halloween II as Laurie’s nightmare after being sedated. Halloween 2018 feels like the real deal, more realistic. I consider Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills one movie, but stuff gets lost in translation in Kills, massive continuity issues. Them adding the Annie scene from Halloween II in Kills was perfect but I really think they jacked up with -the Michael’s not after Laurie thing. It’s makes no sense. It’s clear in the original his fixation because of the way he watched her and followed her. They wanted to go that -it’s scarier if it’s random violence route. I get that Sartian lead Michael to Laurie but you’re on something if you didn’t think Michael know Sartian would help him escape. Sartian knew of Michael’s fixation, and so did the podcast journalist. Michael doesn’t have to speak for others to observe his responses. Look at his nonverbal response to Aaron Korey bringing the mask. Look at his reaction when Sartian uttered Judith’s name in the cruiser. The man followed the podcasts from the cemetery to the gas station for that mask and to kill. And if you think about it he probably followed Sandra the caretaker at some point. Maybe after the gas station he went back to the cemetery and flowed her long enough to know where she lives. Sandra asking “What’s so special about Judith Myers?” probably pissed him off. Maybe he stumbled across Laurie’s compound following Sandra and made a plan to come back at night. Look at how he played that album after killing and arranging Big John and Little John’s bodies. They played a old school album in the sanitarium at the beginning of 2018 too so Michael seeing theirs he couldn’t resist to play some music. The man clearly has motives, drives and perversions. It felt like Hawkins guilt for not killing Myers in 78 made him think it was his duty to kill him after he escaped. He even says it to Carmen..”he needs to die and I’m the one that’s gonna get him.” Maybe they wanted a male gaze and make it about Hawkins so some audience members could relate. Watered down weak sauce. Gimme a thick enchilada bursting with saucy flavor. They just dropped the ball trying to -make it scarier if there’s no motive when all we’ve seen is motives from Michael. If anything, they only reinforced Haddonfield’s toxic lie about Laurie Strode being crazy by it “not being about her” and that’s just serious BS. As much as I love the 2018 Halloween; in these perimeters, Carpenter’s Halloween II is a truer sequel.

The complete story for me will ALWAYS be Halloween '78 and Halloween II. No questions. I loved the ending. And I've always felt like people made too much out of the brother/sister connection. To me it thematically tied Laurie and Michael to fate like the first film. It was a perfect bookend to the story. Myers was never intended to go on through the franchise as a DNA sniffer. Loomis made more out of that unclassified information than was really there. He was coming apart emotionally. I mean he had chased a kid into the street and got him killed, so he was already facing involuntary manslaughter charges had he lived. Loomis was just frantic to find Michael and find reason where there wasn't any. The ultimate fate was that he would join Michael in death. It was the perfect ending, all taking place in one night.

(1978) because it carries the most continuity, the atmosphere, the characters, and cinematography from the first one. I also really love the fact it feels very vintage; it feels very much of its time as far as the dialogue and the aesthetic. I can easily compare this to Halloween H20 vs Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. I remember every one praising Halloween: H20 for being the best sequel since Halloween 2 when it was released in 1998, but I notice that some people fell out of love with it and considered Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers more entertaining. 2018. No contest whatsoever.
H2 made the mistake of giving Michael Myers a motive and this spawned a blueprint of sorts for future films. It's also incredibly slow and boring. It's even slower than the original. It's also hard to view it as a "same night" direct sequel, given how incredibly inaccurate and lackluster Dick Warlock's portrayal is.
2018 stayed true to the formula of the original. Simple. Michael is evil and he has no motive. A true sequel that doesn't attempt to delve into some ambitious sideplot. And James Jude Courtney was unbelievable as The Shape. In my opinion, the best to ever don the mask.
2018 takes it by a country mile.

Halloween 2 is great. So many great kills and iconic visuals. The idea of Myers being Laurie’s brother is very forced, though it’s been a part of the franchise for so long now it’s fine. Very similar to the reveal that Luke is Leia’s brother in Jedi. Obviously pulled out of the creative’s ass at the last minute, but has been embraced by the fan base.
2018’s reversal of that idea was a nice change of pace. Laurie takes Myers place as the stalker, while he is just a killing machine with no goal, not giving a shit about her. Just the need for a final showdown led to one of the dumbest scenes in the franchise, all just to get Myers to Laurie’s house.
I think a comparison between 2018 and Halloween 4: The Return of Micheal Myers would be great. To me those films feel very similar in concept, just that 4 doesn’t have Laurie. I think Halloween 4 is better in many ways, the mask not being one of them. 😂

Halloween II being photographed by Dean Cundey, being scored by John and Allen, and picking up seconds after where the original left off looks and feels like it is part of the original film. Halloween II (1981) is the true sequel to Halloween (1978) for Dean Cundey’s look of the movie alone.
Halloween (2018) is basically fan fiction on a huge budget, and it is awesome. I love it.

H2 hands down, no questions asked. I loved how it picked up right where the original left off, there are so many memorable lines, loved the overall cast, the environment and it just feeling like Haddonfield. Now was Laurie’s wig bad in H2? Yes but nowhere near as bad as in 2018, I mean come on. That thing had her lookin like a completely different person lol.

It’s Halloween II for me, in a landslide. The reason is simple. The was I remember it, my best friend had this movie on VHS, it was the Fall of ‘82. We were both 9 years old. So we watched Halloween and then the network debut of Halloween II. We had never seen movies like that, and the feeling of being terrified at 9 years old cannot be replicated at 45. Looking back, I still can feel how uncomfortable Halloween II made me feel. The music was just scary as hell! Having Dean Cundey back certainly helped. Not to mention Donald Pleasance stole the show for the second movie in a row. As a kid, when Michael walked through that glass door at the hospital, I was DONE! The hot tub scene had the first pair of breasts I ever saw. Not to be shallow, but if that’s your first they were certainly worth it.
As for 2018, it’s not a bad movie, I enjoy it quite a bit, but there’s too many nods and winks to the original. Too many to count in fact. The build up was BS. Jamie Lee called it a re-telling of the original through her granddaughter’s eyes. It wasn’t. John Carpenter said, “It’s gonna scare the shit out of you.” It didn’t. Not even close. Later hearing things like Green wanted to change the ending of Carpenter’s classic really pissed me off.

Halloween 2018 came out my senior year of high school first horror movie I saw in the theaters maybe that sways my opinion because honestly Halloween 2 has a boring section that’s almost as long as the movie Halloween 2018 does not therefore I’d rather watch 2018

You're view on 2018 plot and the Lori and Michael with the lore is exactly how I feel about it. It's why it's in the meddle of the ranking for me. I love how it looks and feels, but man the connection between them and how they end up together again is rough.

Halloween (2018) is the true Halloween 2 imo. I always find H2 to be overrated because there are a lot of continuity errors in the opening, lots of empty hallways shots, Laurie doesn’t do anything til the 3rd act, the 2nd act is incredibly slow, why Michael broke into the school, the sibling plot is rather too convenient (the same day Michael broke out of Smith’s Grove is the same day Laurie drops off keys at the Myers and Michael instantly recognizes her as her baby sister), the empty hospital, and basically no story. H18 is by far the better sequel to the original where it makes Michael scary because he’s a motiveless killer
Overall, H2 is good but ages poorly for me. H18 is a far better sequel in terms of production, writing, kills, storytelling, pacing, and execution. I look at H2 as a recurring nightmare Laurie has for the past 40 years which made her ptsd worse

2018 for me. Halloween II completely disregards the intent of Myers in the first movie by adding the familial piece, samhain, and a few other elements (even though it feels like at the time a fun lore build and raising of the stakes). 2018 honestly honors carpenters ideas in more ways than II did while pitting against a modern backdrop. II has incredible mood and atmosphere that you can't beat though. In my mind II is the true alternate franchise divergence that actually set up a separate film universe and 2018 picks back up the original ideas about Michael. 2018 has a better soundtrack also, John Carpenter's new music carried the new trilogy.

@@dperr338 yeah he wrote II and openly admits to not liking his writing as well as acknowledging that he messed up the lore and sister stuff. Plus James Jude Courtney's Michael is incredible regardless of the rest of that movie. I can't vote against it lol.

halloween is tough i think ressurection is by a mile the worst .
i think halloween 4 h20 and season of the witch are good movies with more pros then cons .
kills is a really bad movie but the rest all have issues but solid enough.
and 78 is of course on another level to the rest .
i will go for 2018 it has issues fuck laurie as a sarah connor rip off .
and the humour is bad .
but its still good in most spots .
where halloween 2 is just bland and boring to me love loomis in it but it really drags on in spots besides kills i dont like dick warlock as myers .
