Don't sell yourself short, Marius. Your design and fabrication skills are top notch and you deserve to be among those other participants at the OpenSauce event. Jer Schmidt is another youtuber that has top notch design and fabrication skills.

"and me for some reason?" You are the most precise woodworker that I've EVER seen! Not to mention that you have an intricate understanding of the materials that you use and how best to use them. You don't over engineer anything that doesn't need it! And that makes you not only a good engineer, but one of the best woodworkers in my opinion.
The pantorouter sure has come a long way from Mattias' first build, amazing to see, it's a full on professional quality tool these days. But also, the new camera gantry has made this video super cool to watch, great job all round. Enjoy San Francisco, very well deserved to be there 👍
I'm so glad you're getting recognized in the broader RUclips making community! And don't let that impostor syndrome kick in, if you're telling yourself you don't belong, you're lying! Also, very nice build. I love the look of the wooden baskets in the pull out pantry :D
Hi Marius, personally I do not agreed with the giveaway only to the people that have the possibility to come to San Francisco! So far all the american youtubers that have done a giveaway are limiting it only to us people (understandably enough). Finally an european youtuber is also doing it (and what kind of giveaway!!) and you are limiting it only to the people that will partecipate to that event...😢😢 I am following you since the disc sander build and like me a lot of other european followers: how many of us do you think will have the chance to come in San Francisco? Anyway thanks for the high details and engineering of all the projects that you share with us: keep it going! 😊
I love the pull out pantry, I have been wanting to convert my walk in pantry into a few pull out cabinets. Walk ins are such wasted space. I had the original wood pantorouter but lost it in a hurricane. Great tool, they have really done a nice job with the metal version. Nice to see the dowel trick used to allow solid cross grain in a fastener joint. I use that all the time.
Cool tools and even cooler skills Marius. I think it would take a human a bit longer than 20 minutes to make that. It's wonderful making changes in your environment to suit your needs, and you can enjoy the improvements every day. Well done, and enjoy SF - you deserve it!
Awesome video. I live in Texas, so it's always interesting for me to see homes in Europe again. I lived in Europe for 2 years, in both France and Belgium, and it was always a surprise for me to see someone's kitchen, and how well it needed to be designed to work well with the limited space most homes have. Where as many kitchens here need little thought to the design aspect as you just have so much more room. Since it's not very expensive in comparison to just have your kitchen space be 2-3 times the size of a European one, it's fairly common to see massive kitchens with 4x8ft islands in the middle with cabinets all around and big walk in pantries. We are remodeling our house right now and will have double islands, so I'm a bit sad that there's litterly no need to design or purchase thoughtful Space saving designs that are often creative and fun to use. I'll probably add in a few, but they are mostly for the want, and not the need.
Yeah, imagine this scenario: he takes it to the US, pays custom duties. Then, if someone from Europe gets it, and brings it back to here, pays another time customs. And let us not forget, that it came originally from China, so when it arrived to Germany, customs already took their part for it. Not bad, governments earn 3 times on the very same object 😅
Jesus, every damn giveaway is in America, I was kinda hoping one youtuber from Europe will give something to a neighbouring country.. But noooo, carry your damn pantorouter across the pond and give it to a spoiled american
Yeah, between the Americans doing US only giveaways (never heard of UPS or DHL apparently) and now EU creators hauling their stuff oversea - I am seriously reviewing my Subs and Patreon policies. And it's not about the free goods/stuff, but the fact that we're not treated the same.
@@SierraLimaOscar Oh common man, he just happened to go to this event and this was a nice opportunity for the giveaway. Stretching this to an equal opportunity issue is WAY over the top. Greetings, a fellow EU citizen.
@vlajkozr he didn't suggest doing that. Read through the comments, many Americans don't recommend going/ visiting San Francisco (myself included). Sounds like an awesome event though.
That humble remark was very cute and all but ultimately misplaced. While utilitarian woodwork might not be all the rage here on RUclips there is still no denying that you're a top dog fabricator.
Tip from a carpentry student, when cutting dovetail joints, cut them about a half millimeter deeper. The leftover wood you can sand away after glue up. We are getting this thought in German carpentry school, because it helps close up tiny gaps and makes glue up easier.
@@MariusHornberger Richtig.
Hi Marius, I am always impressed by your videos! Like the work you present in them, they are of an incredible quality, so that one could watch for hours! As a hobbyist, I am also always impressed by your solutions and the perfect execution of the work! I just want to congratulate you on your success. It doesn't surprise me at all that you were chosen as one of the world's best RUclipsrs! Greetings from France, 👋 Christian
That's an impressive list, you're far more of an engineer than a fair few on that list and I know I'm subscribed to most there! Surprised not to see xyla, Tech Ingredients, naomi wu, plasma channel, scrap science and Robert murray-Smith though
I'm kinda not sure about the position of the hooks. All the weight of the box is only held by the small bit of wood above the hooks, which might break off if you store too heavy things in it? Maybe screwing them in at an angle could be an option "for the next time" :)
@14:51 Ugh. I hope this isn't your first trip to the US. And hopefully you won't judge US by what you see in SFO. I have to tell you Marius...DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING in the car. Not even a piece of paper. Or it will be broken into. PLEASE PLEASE heed this advice. It truly is that bad in SFO. And you absolutely belong at the show!
It'd be fun to go to this event, especially to go on a special trip. But I've heard such TERRIBLE things off San Francisco, from poop in the streets, needles, car break-ins, etc, I can't justify the cost to make that journey.
Your shop is really coming together with all the tools and modifications you added. How about a tour of the whole workshop and you could showcase your favorite tools. I'm interested in everything from tape measure to table saw, I think sometimes even a small tool of great quality can make a big difference :)
Technically can't call it a giveaway if tickets have to be purchased (and that distinction between a giveaway and say a raffle is very important, as you can be fined for this) Love the improvements you made, it looks good even though it'll be hidden for 90% of the time.
Great stuff as usual, two points: You do over produce at times(?) eg the dowel for the hook to catch better? OK in hobby however in business costs etc will rise for no real customer benefit? Do you ever feel guilty that all your overseas viewers can’t take part in many giveaways? Not many will come from Europe to Frisch for your event, so stand no chance!! Bob England ( not in Europe, still not coming! Lol)
What's the max weight those pantry drawers can take, considering you only have a 1/4" or so perimeter glue joint holding the plywood to the sides (and thus supporting all the weight)? I'd worry about that as a point of failure, with no mechanical joint/reinforcement. Seems like this is why a lot of drawer bottoms are done with a rabbet that's not flush with the bottom surface of the drawer.
so doing the giveaway that way, is my conclusion right that your main audience is from the US...?! Little bit sad that your "home base" has little to no chance with that giveaway, but happy for you that "you made it" thus far 👏💪👍!
First , love the channel - and watch every episode. You're a smart guy using your energy for a good thing. However... I have lived very near San Francisco for many decades, been there hundreds of times for many reasons and I'd like to suggest that you be careful there. That place has turned just as bad as you may have read about. The Bums and Junkies (don't insult the Homeless by lumping those with unfortunate circumstances into the ones you see on the streets whose minds have been destroyed by drug abuse.) can be simply offensive as they crap on the streets in front of you, or outright dangerous as they break your car window and steal everything in your car then challenge you to get it back. Cops can't help because it's a "sanctuary city" that allows everything except personal responsibility. Many conventions won't even go there anymore because the attendees refuse to go. If you live there it doesn't seem so bad because the changes were incremental and you adjusted and avoided as needed, but from the outside, it's the decline of civilization in a single city.
Funny seeing this video now. I happened to want such a cabinet with such a pullout mechanism half a year ago. It took me a long time to figure out where to get the mechanics without having to buy the whole cabinet for way more than 2000€ from the manufacturer of the kitchen. So I went the other way around, picked the maximum size I could fit in the available kitchen space, bought the mechanism and built the cabinet around it to fit snuggly. Funny enough it seems that you have chosen then very same glass containers with sealing wood lids and labels than me, only that I have a lot more of them. 😅 I guess if I you had produced and I had seen this video earlier it would have saved me a ton of research time since I didn't even know what options to build such a cabinet were available when I started.
