    Damn, that's a huge hole just to tighten a bolt ;)
    What I've done and works well in situations like that (and is invisible): angle the plate a little so that when you push down the board, it pulls itself to the wall (takes a few tries with adjustment). Instead of angling the plate, you can also bend the "flaps" of the slot a little. Or use a triangular slot and use a counter sink head screw. It has the same effect: the further you push the screw into the slot, the more it pulls on the screw. Both methods even allow you to level the board a little after the fact, because you don't have to bottom out in the slot for it to work.
    What also should work (but I haven't used it for that and there might be a problem to lock it in place tightly): screw a threaded rod into the wall and stick the board with matching holes onto them. Then use a small screw from the bottom to lock the rod in place in the board.

      I agree and can vouch for Abranet as well, they last so much longer than normal sanding discs. I've been using some 4 year old discs as well on hand sanding blocks! The only downside I've found is that they can tear easier on edges but you just need to take care.

    The slot could have been made significantly smaller if you had cut down the hex key. You could have taken out 1/2-3/4 of the depth front to back by taking a cutoff wheel to the hex key and cutting all but a few millimeters past where the key straightens out.
    Good job though. Looks good. I like the live edge and the fake live edge with a sanding disc on an angle grinder. Nifty trick. I will have to keep that in mind.

    • @hansangb
      @hansangb 2 года назад

      But then you'd need to cut another allen key when you need to take it off (since you'll lose the tool). Pay the price now, and you'll recoup on the backend.

    • @jonathanmulzer17
      @jonathanmulzer17 2 года назад

      @@hansangb I have a box full of hex keys leftover from stuff I've assembled over the years. It is a minimal amount of effort. It is not as though a shelf like that is detached and attached on the regular. It is far more effort to chisel out such a large clearance mortise.

  • @usbcd360
    @usbcd360 2 года назад +12

    I like the idea of the bolt tightening pocket, but why not use a hex-head bolt that requires only a thin pocket for an open-end wrench?

    • @Nickerian91
      @Nickerian91 2 года назад +3

      none of them are perfect if you wanted to use a bolt instead it require a wider slot while this require a longer slot.
      He could have made the slot way smaller by cutting the allenkey aswell

    • @usbcd360
      @usbcd360 2 года назад +2

      @@Nickerian91 There are certainly tradeoffs. The Allen key requires a deeper slot for the tool, and requires additional slot length for insertion and removal. The hex head combines the two, though -- the same space that is used for tool insertion and removal is also used for turning the bolt head.

    Your tape test seems like it shows reasonable results. You'd almost need a rig that moves the sander in a pattern for x amount of strokes to compare how much material is sucked up then compare the weight of the wood before and after kind of thing. I think it is important to know how much wood ends up on the floor or in the air.

    Interesting shelf design, but the soundbar is a design fail in the first place. TVs are now only a visual display. I connect my TV's sound output to a decent amplifier and attached speakers. A soundbar is just a pathetic attempt to restore the pathetic functionality that used to be in the TV, but it won't be much better.

    Why didn't you fasten it with a cheap mounting pin with a rod (1€) or more fancy Ferramenta triade (4€)? the result would be much better 😊

    Why is it obvious that the video is about what is written in the title? Most of the titles on youtube are nothing but misleading clickbait.

    bosch tools are a joke. regret every pennie spend on them. i have two "pro" sanders, both broken after one year of use. also their motors are far louder than makita / dewalt / festool
