- This video will show you how to set the engine timing on a Ford V8. It will also show how to line up the number 1 cylinder with the rotor pointing to number 1 spark plug and timing marks on TDC, top dead center on the vibration damper.
Shows how to advance and retard the timing, how to use a timing light, how to install the timing light, how to mark the vibration damper to see the marks, and how to tighten the distributor.
Gap spark plugs.
as always good job. i watched you totally do that 70 chevelle helped me out on my 71 thanks again
You are welcome. You are the reason why I make these videos.
I want to transfer the knowledge.
I have a 1965 A-Code 289 Mustang. How you determined 6 degrees? I've read 10-12° initial advance is probably a good starting point for a 289.
You should have disconnected the Vacuum advance and then set at 6 before top dead center
That fan is no joke lol
When I was 16-17 and knew everything there was to know in the world - I was setting the timing on my 57 Chevy and the wire got caught by the fan.
It yanked it out of my hand and plastic went flying all over the place. I least I did not get hurt. My dad made me buy him another timing light.
I would have done the points and spark plug gaps first.
That is what I did....................???
You checked one plug and never touched the points, unless you didn't show that part.
