- Hey guys! Today I am trying a painting project that may or may not have been a tiktok trend. Basically, you create a sculptural painting using only paint and a piping tip. I was seeing so many of these tiktoks for awhile, but then they all disappeared and I can no longer find them, so I really have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm doing it.
edit: based on the comments, apparently I could have used something to thicken the paint in order to save money and not be using pure paint. ive seen a million and one different suggestions n how to improve my process, but realistically......I'm probably never going to do this again so I wasn't really to pressed about it hahaha This was really just a fun experiment!

Hey! my name is Moriah (pronounced muh-rye-yuh 😂 ) and this is my channel....obviously. I'm 28 and like doing anything creative...and being snarky.....just a lil. I make a lot of decorating, painting and general art videos here. I'm obsessed with editing and adding lil bits to my videos, so if that's not your thing....oof you may hate this haha. Moriah might not think it's the best artwork she's done but I think it's amazing! It looks so cool! The only problems are that it's very messy and it must take AGES to dry. Moriah never disappoints!

It actually takes MONTHS ( I watch artists di this a lot, from what I've heard, it takes up to more than a month depending on the weather I think?)

If anyone here is interested in doing a similar project, I recommend mixing the paint with a paint medium (example Liquitex Gloss Super Heavy Gel or Liquitex Modeling Paste) to give it a thicker texture and use less paint!

Ive done heavy gel and modeling paste. I like the gel more but modeling paste feels like it holds shapes better

Modeling Paste is the key but honestly after seeing you pull that off with straight up paint… This is why I love your videos! You’re awesome
I have to say, that is one gorgeous piece of art. I would hang that in my house in a heartbeat. I would love to see an update video once all those paint globs have dried out completely!

It always amazes me how Moriah can get paint on the floor, paint on the table, paint on her hands and yet her clothes stay paint free for the whole video.

I painted a tiny tiny jar that can only hold marbles and got paint over my favourite hoodie 😭😭 at least I have 2 more of the exact same
Not going to lie, if Moriah said she ended up hating it and wanted to offer it to someone, I would’ve eagerly snatched it up. It’s so gorgeous and I would love to hang it somewhere in my house (with the right weight support, of course 😂)

I don't think you need to use only paint - mix paint with clear silicone. It will definitely hold its shape, and it's way less wasteful 😊
Also, twist the piping bag at the top to avoid a ✨️poopy top✨️

There’s a medium you can add to your paint that isn’t that expensive to make it thicker and hold its shape when dried. I bought some from the range UK and it worked perfectly ☺️
Little tip: when I do this I put a bit of really small soft sand, like the really fine one OR shaving foam. Just mix a bit in and you’”ll use less paint.
Yeah! I usually mix in like a light weight plaster, which helps the paint keep form and you don't have to use as much paint!

If anyone is thinking of doing a similar project, I’d recommend using acrylic modeling paste! It will hold its shape much better and make the whole process smoother while also saving loads of paint. Liquitex (the brand of the paint Moriah used for this painting) has really good modeling pastes in its catalogue. While it’s quite on the more expensive side, it’s really worth it in my opinion, and it’s so fun to work with! Have fun and get creative :)
Another tip is to put the paint onto plastic wrap, and then roll it up like a tootsie roll. Snip off one end of the plastic and slide it down into the piping bag. MUCH less mess.

A cheaper way of doing this is mixing corn starch into a normal acrylic paint, the corn starch will thicken up the paint and make it hold its shape
Or using silicone and paint (decoden)
Don’t feel like if you are having fun don’t think it’s wasteful and it needs to be pricey to be fun because it doesn’t so Moriah have fun with your art you really rock Moriah

Hey moriah! When I’m baking and I want multiple frosting or batter colors to swirl together, i lay them in stripes on plastic wrap and then roll it up (so the stripes are going from one end of the roll to the other) and then cut off the tip and put the roll (cut side down) in my piping bag. That way, one color doesn’t overtake the other.

I was looking for this comment! I think she would have enjoyed the process a bit more doing it that way. But then, she would have had plastic wrap for every color whereas most of the times I’ve seen this done, it’s when you’re combining multiple colors, maybe four. Anyway, great tip!!
@@mikaylaswansong2204 yeah, the plastic wrap isn’t super useful for just one color. When you want to swirl multiple together though, it saves so much time

Hey moriah! I do this art form often and you have missed out a vital supply that would have made this so much easier,
You missed something called “modelling paste” this is a very very thick paste made for this that you mix with just a little paint so it saves A LOT of paint and a lot of money too

Hey Moriah! I loved this video! If you ever try this again (to save yourself some pain) you should get the silicone frosting people use for deco art on phone cases and the like! The silicone looks like paint, dries faster, weighs less, and costs less (If you mix your own, not sure about the pre-made colors). You can literally pick up a big bottle of it from many home improvement stores! Anyways, thanks for always taking the time to put up a video! Im sure your exhausted with your two little ones! Congrats on the new babe! :)

I’m glad you stuck it out through the tedious process because the end result looks great! I do wish you’d revisit and reattempt with the mixing medium that thickens it properly! Plus it would probably be better as a 2 day project, mixing all the colors on day 1 and piping on day 2. Either way, I love this and I’m glad you did it!!

Yes it definitely needs hung up!! Just make sure it’s in a stud 😂 that thing is so heavy it’ll rip through drywall

Moriah, you need a thickening product mixed in your paint if you want better texture, like modeling paste!! And you wont use as much paint❤
I've seen this as well. I remember they were using some kind of thick modelling paste. That way you just need to color the paste and don't need to use as much paint! I would really love to see you try again with that :)
Id recommend texture paste to mix with the paint. Itll hold its shape better and save TONS of paint ❤

If you are thinking of doing this again and want to use multiple piping tips with the same color I HIGHLY suggest a cuplet- a little plastic piece to hold the tip in place so that the metal tip itself is outside of the bag so that you can easily change it

I feel like using small icing bags instead of the large piping bags might result in cute precision work. But yeah going big seems a hassle. Looks cool. Wonder how it looks dry?

I saw a woman showing her piping trick and here you are. It's lay out a piece of celaphane, squirt your colors in lines one next to the other or on top and then roll your celephane paint line up, up like a Tootsie roll and put the whole thing into the piping bag. ❤😊

That piece of artwork looks delicious and made my day from a 1 to a 10 ( not exaggerating) it would have tooken me a month or months to finish something like that, but your a skilled artist and anything YOU make ALWAYS turns out gorgeous!!! I’ve seen people squirt tubes of icing into cling wrap and then roll it into a big tube, then they cut it and put that in a piping bag. I wonder if that could work for trying this in the future? Good job sticking it out! Still fun to watch 😊

She’s pre-scheduled her videos. That’s what professional youtubers do.
A cheap way is to mix paint or colourants with spackling paste / caulk. Or you can mix paint with modelling compound / moulding paste. You can experiment with adding different paint mediums to get the right consistency.
Finished product looks so cool, love the colors too!
Even though Moriah didn't enjoy making this, at least she thought it looked cool in the end! It reminds me of rainbow fire! :D
