I love those trucks! Even more than the new ones. I still have a 73, 76 and a 78. W200, W100 Power Wagon adventurer sport and D100 3-on-the-tree. Beautiful trucks.
Great video! Wasn't even born when this was made. I'm from the UK and have a 1978 dodge d100 custom with a modified 360 small block. Absolute animal on British roads with the amount of torque it's got! So much fun to drive... Especially sideways with the tyres smoking 😂 Very rare here. Everyone with old yank trucks has ford's and chevys. Never actually seen another '78 here which is cool. Most people think it's a c10 at car shows then scratch their head when they see dodge on the front.
and listening, and listening and listening and...you'd better get it started on the first try or else wait a minute or two for the thing to stop spinning...
This is 8 mm and I've not recolorized any of my 8mm collection. The 16mm film I've uploaded has 100% been color restored. But I did just recently found a person that can help me so my full collection of very red Mopar 8mm film is gradually going to be restored. It's expensive but I too want to see it in a format closer to it's original release. So soon....starting with the car videos first, then the truck
My first vehicle was a 1979 D100 Stepside 2WD Slant 6 Auto. It seemed "old" at the time but it was 1991 so it was only 12 years old when I got it for $700. Today a 2008 truck that's 12 years old doesn't seem quite as old. Miss that truck.
In 1991 they were still selling the same basic truck design til 1993 so the 1991 Dodge Full size truck and ramcharger were still that 1979 truck you had but with fuel injection etc
It was brilliant. With its reduction gear it gave the starter more torque to turn the engine over with more grunt and at a faster speed which really helped your car or truck start during the cold winter months. Chrysler's slogan back then was extra care in engineering. And in the 1960's and 1970's Chrysler cars really were very dependable. Always heard the GM and Ford boys screaming about how Chrysler's rusted. But I will tell you my dad was a GM man and every time we got a new car it was because the current one was rusted. He took care of them garaged them washed and waxed them and they still rusted. Salt on the roads and weather too cold to wash the salt off during the winter months meant rust. Everything rusted back then.
The 318,360 including the slant 6 engines ran forever in the Dodge trucks.Ford did have a few engines in their trucks which were junk. The 351M and 400 were 2 of them, could not keep bottom ends in them.My dad still remembers replacing crankshafts in them left and right.
i know these are old posts....but ive been restoring a 77 D100 short bed....and all these vids you put up for chrysler dodge have been such a big help...see these 1s or the service bullitins thank you
Heavy duty flasher? I was perplexed by this for a minute. I think maybe with trailer lights in addition to vehicle lights it might throw off the blinker speed since the old ones used to work on heat to break the contact. I guess it could over heat as well.
I paid cash for a new Dodge one ton pickup in 1979. It cost about $7,000. That truck would cost about $50K to replicate today. My father bought a Dodge quarter ton pickup in 1980 (he already had a beefier truck for work, this one was for my mother to drive). That one cost him $5,000 including tax and registration. Now they don't even sell quarter ton pickups but a half ton is about $40K plus options.
There were a lot of them considering the same body style was built from 1972-1993. I had a 79 and an 85 (both one ton trucks with a 318 in them), both served me well and they saw heavy use. The 80 quarter ton my father bought was a piece of junk, though. The 225 slant six in it needed a ring job at 85K miles and the wiring harness had to be completely replaced about the same time. The body also rusted all to hell in five years. The truck didn't see hard use, my mother drove it and it barely saw the woods and didn't see heavy loads.
I would love to have a extended cab with a manual, I remember as a kid going with my older brother to test drive a green regular cab 4x4 with a 8 foot bed ,manual green vinyl bench seat.
I'm still not sure why these were so rare. Maybe its a California thing, but the only ones I ever saw were company trucks and bottom of the line beat up trucks. Seems like nobody bought the top of the link Dodge. My neighbor had a '78 Chevy camper special 454. Decent truck, I guess he was just familier with chevies and liked them, but I prefer the looks of this Dodge.
Ford and Chevy dominated the Pickup Truck Market thru the 60's and into the Mid 70's. Dodge was only about 15 % to 20% of the market, you had Jeep and International too and GMC. Ford and Chevy was king. They are rare because they were rare when they were new. Totally different today with Ram nipping at the heels of Ford and Chevy slowly tanking in the sales department. It's extremely hard to believe that Chevy has dropped so far down in sales so that they are actually in third place now

You can always identify a Dodge by just listening to it’s starter
One of the few gear reduction starters is why
I've always loved that sound. My 72' Fury still has one and I enjoy it every time I turn the key.
Ha ha! Ain't that the truth! I've got a couple classic Dodge motorhomes with those starters.
and listening, and listening and listening and...you'd better get it started on the first try or else wait a minute or two for the thing to stop spinning...
LowKey ID na. A true mopar man knows when to catch it
I want a time machine, had my 1977 going on 30 years now, started with a 225 but now 440 .
that's the problem with new trucks . no squelch control
brewmaster0507 lol
No electronic device needed more sensitive fingers than the squelch control, even with todays standard.🤠
Man I loved those trucks !
You could roast the tires with the 225 slant 6 !
Equip to haul 10 000 lbs too..💪🌞
video makes me very happy.
the high quality of this Video is amazing for 1978.... wow
I knew a lot of guys back then who had a center console and kept a cooler in there. However it wasn't soda or canned iced tea they kept cold in there.
Road pops 😎
Beer 🍺
Filmed in brilliant red!!

I miss the old Dodge, Chrysler-Plymouth signs. Chrysler Corporation had some nice cars & trucks in the 70's when growing up.
Yeah old Chryslers in general look way more exciting than new ones and reliable
Don't forget about that 8 track with big stereo sound... ha ha ha ..
Soooo much space in the engine!!! I miss my 1976 D100 😭
Get a Dodge 1972-1993 W100-W150

NeilLB7 and it would cost $20k. Which is way more than what $700 would be worth today.

Love these old truck commercials. I still have my 05 dodge 2500. Still a great truck.
I still have my 2004 Cummins I bought new and a 1980 W150.
The Chrysler starter sound seem to be a popular effect everytime a car or truck started on a TV show or movie.

Would love to have a cherry big block, manual and 4wd.
Gotta have that squelch control.
I have a 78 ramcharger with a 440 engine and love it
Love my 87 D150, but would love a 78' for sure.
Where do you live? I’m in florida and holding onto a 78 adventurer for some years now looking for someone interested lmao
UB. Cool!

wasn't the 351m just a modified cleveland? windsor power is where it was at!
So cool 70’s Dodge Trucks ❤️ thank you for this videos
Wow, deluxe vinyl...
thanks for sharing it was nice to see this
didn't know they made a diesels in 78
Read my above comment
Did we mention this truck is TOUGH!... No?.. well it is!
Its crazy seeing this commercial I have a 78 been passed down great grandfather bought it new off showroom floor
At least a middle class family could afford a new vehicle in 1978. Now you have to make six figures to be able to afford to buy a new vehicle.
What that 1978 cost would only be a down payment on a new 2024 Ram 1500@@mharris5047
I wasn't born in the 70s but I do like trucks like these. Dodge made amazing trucks in the older years
i know these are old posts....but ive been restoring a 77 D100 short bed....and all these vids you put up for chrysler dodge have been such a big help...see these 1s or the service bullitins thank you
You're welcome and I have more to come! some more in a few weeks.
great video. thanks for posting.
Love my 78
The best thing about this commercial is that now, I'm about to go take mine for a drive!

I think the Ideal truck would be long bed sweptline, adventurer trim with buckets, heavy duty towing package and a 383.
Always liked that body style of the dodge truck....

Ol' School Dodge Trucks are STRONG!!!!
I learned to drive in a 1978 Power Wagon 4x4.
Where is the love for the Macho package?
Love the music...
1978 D 100 was my first truck with a 318.
Cool trucks.
Love it
Pull tab cans I rember those ouch!!
Yeah me too.
I would love to have a extended cab with a manual, I remember as a kid going with my older brother to test drive a green regular cab 4x4 with a 8 foot bed ,manual green vinyl bench seat.
The man unloaded hay bales from the truck then got back in the truck and drove away
There nothing better than a MOPAR RULES !
Still have my grandfathers 84 d100 he bought new
"available in all states except california." HAHAHAHAA! even back then huh?
I remember watching "Price is Right" back in the 80's....every car ever won on the game show...."includes California emissions!"
@@NeilLB7 good old commiefornia, never changes
@@NeilLB7 I remember that too when I watched the "Price Is Right".
@@oscarmccormack1761 lol sure doesn't change.
i was thinking the same thing
I just bought a 1978 today!
Logan Guy I am getting my 78 back soon, what engine is in yours?
360 big block v-8. Yours?
318 with a 3spd auto
I have the automatic transmission too! I'm still waiting on it to come back from the shop. It needed new brakes.
The only problem I've had with mine was brakes
Me gusta la camioneta
“Except California”
This shit’s been going on for ages.
🤯
also except High Altitude Areas which were also outside of California.
Worst state laws ever. Ruined paint too

Shut up and take my money!
Mopar or no car.
Where's the Warlock?
The one at 4:05 I'd gladly have.
Dónde la venden?? En el concesionario?? 🤔
Neat
in 81 they changed the gauge of steel
"Available in all states, except California." 😂
Stricker Air Quality requirements.....not available in Federal High Altitude areas either
Dodge is beauty than f 100
4:05 no diesel in California
So
Elton John Greatest Hits 8-Track 😁👍🏻
My question what type of diesel motor was in it I know eleven years later they came out with Cummins but I want to know what was in 78'
Mitsubishi!?! They made the planes that bombed Pearl Harbor!
MrTrenbo Chrysler at the time owned interest in Mitsubishi.
I never realised that Dodge had a diesel engine back in 1978!
It was mitsubishi powered in 78 I believe through 80 They're very rare To find today
Worth a lot of money too
After watching this video it would be tough not to buy a Dodge!
Iv literally pulled a semi with an 81 with super 6
Its it just me or did at 3:59 the truck seemed to look as if it was about to wipe out.
Must be you cuz all I saw was an engine.
Ive watched someone who owned one of those trucks go off a ten foot dirt junmp and drive away.
I meant jump
Might have been me
camera had too many mushrooms
Lol🤣
Cool. I just built a 78 W100 Power Wagon with a six figure budget. For fun, have a look on my channel at the build video. Its for sale now also.
