It depends how you learned it and where you learned it. I believe there are 4 models of the continents (5 up to 7 continents in these models):
-The seven-continent model is usually taught in most English-speaking countries including the United States, United Kingdom and Australia and also in China, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and parts of Western Europe.
-The six-continent combined-Eurasia model is mostly used in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Japan.
-The six-continent combined-America model is often used in Latin America, Greece and countries that speak Romance languages.
-A five-continent model is obtained from the combined-America model by excluding Antarctica as uninhabited. This is used in the United Nations and in the Olympic Charter in its description of the Olympic flag.
And there is also a model of "Botanical continents" which are 9 in total.
All of these models are fine and accepted.
And when you argue that continents are single landmasses divided by water then you can also say that there are only 4 continents: Eurafricasia, America, Antarctica and Australia, because Africa/Eurasia and South/Nord America are only divided by man-made canals and not naturally.
There’s also the Aral Sea, which was also a lake. Once a pretty big one too. But shrunk overtime due to irrigation projects
