  • When it comes to knife fighting the medium rage is the most dangerous range. For skills development and practice it is okay to go slow but as you progress the focus should be working to end the fight in seconds in that range.
Pekiti Tirsia Kali is undeniably a formidable dangerous and deadly martial art that is revered for its lethal techniques and combat effectiveness. It is a Filipino martial art known for its focus on edged weapons, making it particularly lethal in close-quarter combat situations. The art emphasizes precise and efficient striking with bladed weapons like knives, sticks, and even empty hands, making it a highly effective system for self-defense and combat. One of the prominent figures in the world of Pekiti Tirsia Kali is Roberto Pagan, a leading instructor and practitioner of the art. With decades of experience and a deep understanding of the system, Pagan has become a recognized authority in the field. His dedication to teaching and preserving the traditional techniques of Pekiti Tirsia Kali has earned him a reputation as a master instructor, making him an influential figure in the world of martial arts. Under his guidance, students learn not only the physical techniques but also the philosophy and strategy that make Pekiti Tirsia Kali a formidable martial art.

Parry and block. Universal not just to bladed martial arts but unarmed too.
This literal same drill is found in ancient manuscripts from medieval germany, though it replaces the slice out with an immediate close-range hammer gip stab.

I saw GLOVES advertised that are, I think, over the elbows that are good to grab a blade, prevent slashing cuts, and some stabs.
It would be nice to see those cut-retardent gloves used in a movie that features an actor that is empty handed. And BAD guys that slice-up skilled Martial Artists.

once you Go To Sparring in the 'dojo', esp with a guy from ANOTHER 'dojo': immediate end of Flow Drill. immediate end of intimidation-factor of big arms with tatoos. Street: hidden knife, ambush, stab heart, walk off. have a back-up-guy behind your victim.
there's plenty of data, from various fields, that the only realistic Finishing Move is stabbing the HEART. unfortunately, there's NO way to demonstrate that in the 'dojo'; prison, or streets of Capetown S.A., demonstrated frequently.
look at the 10'' blades on traditional (antique) ph killing-knives, for grappling-biting-range, use 'bolo' outside that range. note, at grappling-biting-range the stabbing-angles to the HEART are downward, upward, sideways, requiring longer blade to reach the HEART. see dozens of antique knife-blades 10" or so, from around the world, for MAINLY grappling-biting-range. sword, ax, etc, outside biting-grappling range.

Do you sell any DVDS to train? Just looking is great, but I can't go around the world to train. Plus, I need REPETITION to store it into muscle memory, like tying my shoe laces everyday. People always say, stream online, but the internet can go down and there goes all your training, plus you can't take it to places where you don't have internet access. So PLEASE. Do you sell DVDS training videos? If not, will you soon able to? So your PRECIOUS KNOWLEDGE that took over two thousand years to present itself, DOESN'T GET LOST IN TIME.

He literally said what he showed isn't a real fight.
A real knife fight doesn't last as long as a fist fight. No matter what, regardless of skill level or martial art, most knife fights won't last more than 10 seconds, and most of that time is just the two fighters squaring off at long range swinging at the air because they're afraid of getting cut. Only one or two of the "techniques" you see in FMA happens, and it only happens one time; during that millisecond when someone finally commits and they make contact. Immediately afterwards, the fight ends with someone bleeding out. Maybe they keep going for a few more seconds because of adrenaline, but they'll pass out from blood loss soon enough. That's how a real knife fight goes down.
Basically what he's showing is a slow drill for creating muscle memory specifically for that millisecond of actual combat in that '"middle range" as he calls it.
Because you don't have time to think in that millisecond, you have to rely on muscle memory making you react in the right way. Correct reactions from muscle memory can only happen with practicing the same proper reactions multiple times. That practice can only begin if you do it slow, and you do it over and over again. And that's what all these FMA drills are: one or two techniques that are repeated slowly over and over again.
Granted he didn't really word it very well. It sounded pretentious the way he said it. But what he's trying to explain is very realistic.

So you carry a knife with you 24/7? If you get in an altercation do you just kill a person? Because this won’t work on the street at all but just wondering what do you expect from this? This is like Karate kata.
