I don't practice Arnis, but People tend to forget that Arnis is a technique based on swordplay. An opponent should be dead by step 3. But with the sport, even if you get clean hits, the opponent doesn't die and you're retaliated with a handful of sticks hence why it looks like they're just throwing hands randomly. It's like comparing kendo and kenjutsu. In kendo, you hit specific parts for points but in kenjutsu, all body parts are game and you're out to kill.
It is a point based competition which of course needs scoring this is why defense goes out the window. Point based competitions are crap but there are not other alternatives.
I can tell you that you should join Arnis,I am training Arnis.i know how hard things like these are,but,I still continued.its not just like people fighting with a normal stick.you can be useless if you are in a fight and you found a stick and hold it but, how can you fight with a stick if you didn't know how to use it properly....Not being angry but,you can't bully a stick that can save your life

People say "that's not arnis, I just see two guys hitting each other with a stick" like they know what they're talking about. One thing is drills, those fancy movements that serve to gain strength, speed and coordination and another thing is a sparring like this. Obviously if you have never trained arnis in your life you will not be able to see the techniques or the angles used in this fight. I'd like to see those talk-to-talk people in a similar match to see how long they last on their feet. The arnis is so dangerous that it is all or nothing, the combatants cannot fight without protection, otherwise it would be a deadly fight that would end in seconds with someone dead or without bones.
I’ve trained arnis for about 7 years now alongside other weapon based arts. While not perfect, there is far more technique in this sparing than meets the unfamiliar eye.
i've watched a lot of videos on arnis, i saw a lot of great moves that were practical and very fast. i saw none of that in this video, zero form, just wildly swinging sticks and running at each other......
College tournaments are way more fun to watch. You will see proper form and hitting, I even watch nationals one time and you could clearly see its different
If i swing at you with that stick and you have no protection you will cry. If arnis will become a sport and the player can only wear helmet it will be one of the most painful sport.

No Offense, but those two are like tied Chickens, just keep hitting each-other, In our game here in Mindanao no one Cares how you fight aggressively, what matters is that you hit your opponent one at a time and then, rethink again to gain another opportunity, and also in my opinion, the referee isn't fair enogh with both players, why?, cz those aren't just soft pillowed pads, inside those are real sticks (Uwaii Branch) but it is formed as a thin stick and stuffed inside that padded stick, it indangers the both players, while their hitting one another, it could result major or minor bruises, or even worst, I know what it feels like, its freaking very painful, so hope next time they choose the right referre, for precautionary measures...

Starting at 2:17 Red is starting to score good shots. It may not be seen because it is fast but look at those DOWNWARD blows by Red. His tactics is whenever they engage, he will simply pound Blue with a Downward blow, mostly to the head.
Playing arnis is not easy and simple, and we all know it, and in fact, it is also difficult to learn. However, the two courageous people showing it did not appear to be struggling; rather, they performed and executed it perfectly. Hands down, both of them nailed it.

There's so many style in arnis some hold unto verry bottom of the stick and some hold the stick four fingers from the bottom. Plus you dont have to always chamber your armed hand because your attacks will be predictable
Ive been from region 4A for 2008 palarong pambansa but never get to represent our region cause I got personal problems before regionals. One way to really dominate this fight is to use sideways movement incorporated with strong swings. Most fighters just jump right in front of others. I created my own technique and injured so many legs at that tournaments. Mabuhay ang arnis!

They're scoring points. Since they're wearing armor they dont care about getting hurt, faster swings is more points. They're actually good at the game theyre playing it's just a different game than you expected.

The only rule is to "kill it fast"... Kali is master in hand to hand combat, daggers, stick and sword... If that arnis use in real situation you will get killed... Because in arnis,,, every swing is a combination of very fast back and fort offence and deffence...
Arnis was taught when I was in 3rd year high school. Double sticks (2 arnis sticks) were more popular. Is Arnis still taught in High school today? I haven't seen high school students carrrying arnis sticks. It's a beautiful martial art (feeling ko parang nag aral ako ng kung fu or taekwando o ano pa bang martial art haha).. I wish we have places in Philippines where we can enhance Arnis.
We are about to practice it in our school here in Antipolo, Rizal this week and the next week. I also came from the province, CORDILLERA region to be exact and I can tell you it is still being practiced in High School specially in the provinces.

Filipino Arnis should innovate the armoring system to be able to spar and compete efficiently. Kaya mabilis sumikat ang BJJ kasi kaya nila mag spar in actual fight strength and speed without injuring their students.
In reality, this is just a contest of who can get the next point in hitting. Fully padded, though they will not be harmed, like stall so that their opponent will not get the strike and a point. This is not an example of Arnis as it is practiced. This is merely a sport.

Marian Kotúč that is the problem with having your head in padding, in a real fight you would sacrifice your forearm in favor of protecting your head and getting a hit in at the same time. With real sticks the fight would be over after the first good wack to the hand or elbow. The should use only soft sticks and no padding so they still need to block I won't do any damage

I think they are just beginners. Moves are ugly and skills are not refined. Attacks are just randomly thrown with no definite trajectory and defenses are non-existent. Bah. They fight like childrens, no practical movements at all.
I am not impressed. In a real swordplay, one cannot be this careless to whats about to happen. I don't see any techniques, all they do is hack each other. Defense is out the door.

I guess masters nowadays should set proper expectations kasi once ang practitioner eh nasanay sa synchronized movements and hindi nalaban yung opponent with intensity eh parang nacocondition yung utak na eto yung tama pag swabe galawan ok na. Yun ay nagbibigay ng false assurance at pwede mapahamak ang practitioner sa pag aakalang kayang kaya niya ang real life combat. Itong nasa video ang totoong nangyayari pag real makoy na. Walang porma at kung sino unang makatama ng palo mapa kahoy man o itak siya ang mabubuhay. Wala pang nag tagaan ng itak na kinaya ang tatlo o higit pang tama sa katawan. This is the other style of arnis. The one that was taught to you is the more acrobatic version
Marian Kotúč that is the problem with having your head in padding, in a real fight you would sacrifice your forearm in favor of protecting your head and getting a hit in at the same time. With real sticks the fight would be over after the first good wack to the hand or elbow. The should use only soft sticks and no padding so they still need to block I won't do any damage
I'm pretty sure the video is all about hit points while the real arnis martial arts is bloody.

this is a tournament and they are a bit nervous maybe because of loosing,so they cant really follow the defense ,theyre just blocking the enemy attacks,if you watch closely you will see😉

I think they are just beginners. Moves are ugly and skills are not refined. Attacks are just randomly thrown with no definite trajectory and defenses are non-existent. Bah. They fight like childrens, no practical movements at all.

I am not impressed. In a real swordplay, one cannot be this careless to whats about to happen. I don't see any techniques, all they do is hack each other. Defense is out the door.

Ito ang reality. Sa practice sa mga videos kasi flashy and far from reality kasi nasasalo bawat palo. I guess masters nowadays should set proper expectations kasi once ang practitioner eh nasanay sa synchronized movements and hindi nalaban yung opponent with intensity eh parang nacocondition yung utak na eto yung tama pag swabe galawan ok na. Yun ay nagbibigay ng false assurance at pwede mapahamak ang practitioner sa pag aakalang kayang kaya niya ang real life combat. Itong nasa video ang totoong nangyayari pag real makoy na. Walang porma at kung sino unang makatama ng palo mapa kahoy man o itak siya ang mabubuhay. Wala pang nag tagaan ng itak na kinaya ang tatlo o higit pang tama sa katawan. Sa totoo lang isang taga pa lang kung hindi patay eh babagsak ka due to blood loss in a few seconds.

Hindi na kailangan umilag basta tumama na. pag nangyari yan sa totoong laban, tumama kana tapos tumayo kana diyan na parang tanga. Hahandusay ka rin.
As for those na nagsasabing pabilisan lang ang laban. Syempre, 3 ang basic ng kahit anong martial arts. Speed, strength, and technique. Yun yun. Kahit anong technique alam mo kung di mo naman magawa kasi di mo kayang magawa ng mabilis at walang lakas. Parang wala lang din. Dapat balanse.
