The two girls did all of the backing vocals, they are just superb singers, and the backing vocals are always superb too, everytime you listen you hear different things.
"Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs "Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence (Agnetha is soprano, Anni Frid is mezzo soprano, and together blending together the 'Third Voice' of ABBA) "Chiquitita" was premiered especially for the Concert by UNICEF, invited (with a lot of artist) by Bee Gees ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" that night in January 9 (1979), and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF "Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following years ABBA recorded an album with its best songs entirely in Spanish "Chiquitita" was specialy the greatest hit of ABBA in my country Argentina "Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece This promotional video was in February 1979 in Swizterland, when ABBA go there to a special TV "ABBA in Switzerland", for the 'International year of the Child' (That's why the snowman) It's their only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden I wish to see you soon in another reactions to ABBA songs Maybe the next could be "Thank you for the music" (1977) another beautiful ABBA song recorded in spanish or the worldwide hit "Fernando" (1976) recorded first by Frida in swedish as solo singer or their two first comeback songs in 2021 "I still have faith in You" & "Don't shut me down" GOD bless you and stay safe My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina South America
Benny released a solo album called Piano with just him playing songs he has written before, during and after ABBA - it’s very relaxing but shows his immense skill
My friend, Benny goes crazy in almost all ABBA songs, yes, he is a genius, but my favorite will always be Agnetha (the blonde), please react to "if it wasn't for the nights", this song has the same energy as dancing queen.
Masterpiece 👌 The spanish version of this song was the biggest hit of 🅰️🅱️🅱️🅰️ in Latin America countries... Good react, Chase!, hope to see you soon with more ABBA 😊. Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱👍
Yes. The endless fight to get people to play a Frida lead. I've never once read a plea for a long overdue Agnetha lead. That said, he's beginning to run out of Agnetha leads on singles so victory is close!😅
It's nice that you get involved with ABBA and it's funny that you focus so much on the piano, which is really always and therefore Benny is sensational, but ultimately all ABBA songs are perfectly detailed by all four musicians from the writing of the songs to the entire implementation and sang magnificently. More highlights *Take a chance on me* *Lay all your love on me* *Eagle* *The visitors* *Summer night city* *The name of the game*
If you haven't already been brought up to speed, this was done for a UNICEF concert. From then on, ANY time this song is broadcast, no matter how, UNICEF receives a donation. Thanks!
About 2plus years ago the piano outro became such a huge tiki tok trend by youngsters that the utube views to this video got boosted even more and quite fast.Btw its Spanish version recorded in 1979 by Abba is still an hymn in Latin American countries.A phenomenal solid longlasting hit.
"Chiquitita" is like a diminutive of a diminutive word in English use "little" but in Spanish we have in latin american countries many meanings derived from 'chica/o' : 'chiquito/a' o 'pequeño' 'chiquitito/a' o 'pequeñito' ('chiquititita', in an exaggeration) That is why sometimes it is difficult to understand how diminutive the use of the word "Chiquitita" is in the Spanish language, especially in Latin America, in relation to English. It is twice as diminutive of "Girl" It's almost like a sequence: Girl, little girl, very little girl and in that case, the use of "Chiqutita" is totally affectionate, supportive and charitable. That is why ABBA chose this word in its diminutive form very appropiate, due to its colossal impact in all Spanish-speaking countries (my dear latin american friend Alejandro from Chile could explain more about it)
I understand it as referring to the person in addition to calling him small, because of his size, we speak to him with tenderness because of his 'inexperience' in life's problems... This song is understood as an adult speaking to a little girl... Something like: "tiny little girl" or "dear little girl." Obviously this word was also used due to musical reasons... for meter and sonority. ❤️🇨🇱🤗👍
Knew you would love this. Benny and Bjorn both sing backing vocals in most of their songs. ABBA perfected the art of layering their vocals and with beautiful singing from Frida and Agnetha you hear what is known in the "ABBA world" as the 3rd voice when they harmonise so beautifully.
Another Benny masterpiece on keyboards. Agnetha lead but I really love Frida’s lower range when she joins in. Not forgetting the harmonies in this as they do play a significant part all the way through the song.
High 1970s is vague. Chiquitita was released in c1979. ABBA was a Super Group from Sweden & hit the ground running since 1974 with "Waterloo" in the US. Please realize the Studio Recordings we hear were the result of them over layering the ladies vocals to give that big, beautiful harmonic sound.
So glad you're discovering the brilliance and magic of ABBA. Benny Anderson is the piano player and Bjorn Ulvaeus is the 🎸 guitar guy, and Agnetha and Frida's vocals on this are other wordly. Also recommend (Frida) Fernando and Super Trouper and (Agnetha) I've Been Wating for you and Lay All Your Love on Me. Keep up the great reactions. ABBA is quite simply THE BEST!!!!
One of the things I particularly love about this song is that Benny throws in an extra beat in some places. So you are going along in 4/4 and then there is an asymmetric measure of 5/4 and then you're back to 4/4 again. One example is the phrase "...(beat 1) ..oooh.. (beat 2) how the (3) heartaches (4) come and they (5)go and the ... (beat 1 of the next measure) scars they're (2) leaving..." Benny does this all the time in a bunch of their songs
This classic ABBA song was number one all round the world. ABBA recorded it in Spanish. It was a huge hit in South America. ALL PROCEEDS from the song - millions of dollars - went to UNICEF Children's Charity.
Chiquitita had its live premiere on January 8, 1979 at the UNICEF benefit concert as a contribution to the United Nations' YEAR OF THE CHILD (internet video with the very earlier song He's Your Brother). ABBA transferred the license rights to UNICEF, which now receives all income (apparently 4.8 million by 2021). In February the BBC filmed the winter special "ABBA in Switzerland", from which this single promotion video was taken and handed over to the TV stations.
Thanks, Chase! 🏝 The Spanish singer/guitarist/actor Charo helped ABBA with the lyrics for the translation of this song. I saw Charo perform twice in Las Vegas, NV and once in Biloxi, MS. She's so good, was also very funny in some tv acting in the 1970s. She's also fairly active on Twitter/X with comedic/helpful short videos. ෴ And someone in your comments told you that it's pronounced Chick-ee-keeta... but it's not... it's Chick-ee-teeta. Just like it's spelled... but in Spanish the qu is like a k sound (not kw like in English).
When I was younger, I was a parent helper with Cub Scouts in the UK. The Cub Pack was mixed (there were boys and girls). There was a little girl called Sophie who was lying down In a Cub meeting and wriggled backwards revealing horrific bruises. I told the Cub Leader. Her Dad was banished from their house. Sophie became my shadow as I had helped her. At a Cub camp, I was sitting playing guitar in a quiet moment and Sophie asked to sing and suggested Chiquitita. It means "little one" as a female term of endearment but we thought it meant 'little girl'. I played guitar and Sophie sang like a little angel as the 'little girl' singing "I'll sing once more like I did before". I still cry thinking about it now. 😢
This is so refreshing to see someone in your generation reacting and enjoying ABBA. I was a teenager (only 16) and when their songs came out and hit the airwaves, they were really popular as no other music like this was around at that time. They wrote all of their own songs!
Watching your ABBA-Videos brings me to listen as I was listen the songs for the first time, just like you. And I get aware of how great they were/ are, in songwriting, arrangements, voices. Thanks a lot for your videos. They fill my heart with joy ❤
For a different side of ABBA try the long version of Eagle. I fell in love with ABBA back in 1974. There’s a big back catalogue of their music to explore.
I love your Abba reactions! So beautiful to see a good listener from a new, young generation appreciate this heart warming music from Abba. Even their sad songs make you happy. I have listened to them since I was ten! (Now I'm 60). At that age I met Agnetha a few times (I grew up very near her parents home in Jönköping in Sweden). Once I met the whole band in an elevator!!! Keep up the good work!
Damn! As someone who grew up with abba through the 80s and always wanted their latest album for christmas, your reaction videos are truly magical. I'm so thrilled you are able to appreciate and feel their magical sounds. It makes me so happy to hear these songs with your reaction. You are awesome! You have my utmost respect and I can see you can feel and appreciate all types of music. Keep doing what you're doing man! Greetings from LONDON, UK!
I also grew up in the 1970's....and they were really as big as people say they were! They were so popular and were 'always' on the radio and people were singing bits of their songs all the time!....it's nice to see they still making inroads into the next generation! They deserve all the accolades they've earned....a real iconic band that has never gone out of style....enjoyed your reaction!...cheers
If it wasn't for the nights (love that one) was supposed to have been the first single from the Voulez Vous album in 1979, but they chose this song instead.
I agree with mervinmannas: seeing your face light up. 75 yr old guy here. I was die hard fan of ABBA also Carpenters and made fun of and could not admit. I feel that watching you is how I felt listening to them. Also saw your "Queen" reaction. They were popular and could admit I was fan. You have made me feel that I wasn't crazy to be impressed by these people. The music popular back in 60's and 70's maybe hasn't aged as well.
Im so impressed by You ! such a young guy who is really interested in this kind of music ! able to realize the special musician skills ... please dont stop to hear and enjoy music in this way , good music and you are beautiful ! 🎵❤
Hey great song great reaction. I just wast to know one thing, how'd they get that piano up on the mountain top? Lol. Try "Fernando " "if it wasn't for the nights" (live version from Japanese tv) and "Summer Night City " (official video) Benny and Bjorn wrote the musical "chess" and Benny still plays with his band The Benny Andersson Orchestra. ABBA got back together after 40 years with a new album called "Voyage" and built an arena in London where they do concerts by avatars aka abbatars. It's incredibly real not like a holigram. They spent months in special motion catching suits with 165 cameras to capture all of their movements. Take care and thank you
Being Chilean, I cannot help but mention a certain work by a classic Chilean band... 'Los Jaivas' (Andes folk/rock), who made a great production called "Alturas de Machu Picchu"👌 precisely in that mountainous area of Peru.. .with a very large piano😃... and drums, bass, guitar, etc... ❤️🇨🇱🤗👍
Yay! So glad you did this song. Thank you for the reaction🙏 Benny is spectacular on the piano. Also Bjon on the guitar is stunning, especially when he picks the strings to give it that Hispanic feel.
Chase, you're always big on the piano... it would be worth your time to check out some Jim Steinman work. He was the greatest composer of all time for rock piano. He primarily wrote for Meat Loaf (check out I'd Do Anything for Love But I Won't Do That, Bat Out of Hell, or You Took the Words Out of My Mouth) and Bonnie Tyler (Total Eclipse of the Heart, Faster Than the Speed of Night, or Rebel Without A Clue). 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
I love your reaction. Gerry Rafferty was part of a great band called Stealers Wheel. My favourite song from Stealers Wheel is benediction. But the more well-known song from Stealers Wheel is,Stuck in the Middle With You.
I don't if anyone's mentioned it or you've connected the dots yet, but easy way to remember their names. ABBA, their initials (Angetha Benny Bjorn Anni-Fred). Agnetha is the blond and Anni-Fred (goes by Frida) is the brunette. Benny piano, Bjorn guitar. 😁
Hello there!I'm from Philippines...a new subscriber of your channel...i think i'm older than you...22yo,enjoying your channel since you react to THE CARPENTERS...even if i'm to late to join this channel of yours...fell in love with Karen Carpenter since i was 10....by the way, don't forget my request,,please play her song I HAVE YOU,I'M CAUGHT BETWEEN GOODBYE AND I LOVE YOU,Etc.
Benny never liked the sound of his own voice, so if his voice is on the recording it's pretty far back in the mix. Bjorn's voice is usually the male voice you hear. The ladies are the background voices you hear. ABBA never used any other background singers. This song is from 1979.
@@Lisa-M True - I had forgot that! (I have become forgetful) More used to Björn somtimes singing the lead in different ways, like "Rock Me" and "Crazy World"...
Hi I would really appreciate it if you would react to, From Here to Entity by The Fizz, formally known as Bucks Fizz The Fizz - From Here To Eternity (Official Video). Below is a little history of the group and singer. Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston has endured a hellish ordeal over the last few years. The singer, who rose to fame when the British band won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with 'Making Your Mind Up', has suffered from her own agonising health battles. Jay was diagnosed with mouth cancer in June 2018, had a gruelling seven-hour operation to remove a section of her tongue and then had it rebuilt using part of her thigh. They recorder this track on the day Jay was diagnosed with cancer which make it very emotional. Jay has recovered and is still touring with the group they just played a sell out concert at the 02 arena in London 43 years after winning the Eurovision. Also please check out, The Fizz Live At The Water Rats They have a big catalogue of hits, let me know if you would like more suggestions from the fizz.
Background singers are the women also. This is a lip sync performance which was common at the time. Listen to a cd or album version for the best experience.
It's so amazing to see young people discovering and loving the timeless music of ABBA. I grew up in the 70s and ABBA were everywhere. You can't believe the reach they had. This song also have a Spanish version.
It sounds equally fine and quite exotic in Spanish!
Right
I was born in 1977 and the first conscious memory in my life is a song by ABBA. 🤷♂

It's their only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden

Being Chilean, I cannot help but mention a certain work by a classic Chilean band... 'Los Jaivas' (Andes folk/rock), who made a great production called "Alturas de Machu Picchu"👌 precisely in that mountainous area of Peru.. .with a very large piano😃... and drums, bass, guitar, etc...
❤️🇨🇱🤗👍
Poor Frida. Her hair has a life of it's own here lol.
ABBA can cure you from hip hop if you take a chance on them
❤Love it!! Next one with Frida in the lead "Fernando" pls?
WILL DO !
Abba Why did it have to be me? Is my favourite
I read somewhere that the band members were happy to move around in this video because the temperature was sub-zero!
Chick-(eh)-tee-tar. Some will say (eh) as in egg or some will say (ah) as in arm.
Another wonderful masterpiece 🔥
Thank you 🙌
1 of all comments somewhere about this recording said Agneta &Björn had an argument about something just before they did this..?
Yay! So glad you did this song. Thank you for the reaction🙏 Benny is spectacular on the piano. Also Bjon on the guitar is stunning, especially when he picks the strings to give it that Hispanic feel.
THANK YOU !
The way old friends do
Could you make a list of all the ABBA videos please Chase...??
Chase, you're always big on the piano... it would be worth your time to check out some Jim Steinman work. He was the greatest composer of all time for rock piano. He primarily wrote for Meat Loaf (check out I'd Do Anything for Love But I Won't Do That, Bat Out of Hell, or You Took the Words Out of My Mouth) and Bonnie Tyler (Total Eclipse of the Heart, Faster Than the Speed of Night, or Rebel Without A Clue). 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
Chick-A-Tee-Ta. Nice reaction! Wait until you see Benny in the live concert of "Why Did It Have To Be Me?"
I knew you were going to love this one Chase! Love your reactions 😊
At some point, you need to bump into Benny's 'Intermezzo No. 1' - incredible!
I'll check it out!
@@chasevickerss ❤️
I love your reaction. Gerry Rafferty was part of a great band called Stealers Wheel. My favourite song from Stealers Wheel is benediction. But the more well-known song from Stealers Wheel is,Stuck in the Middle With You.
React Abba "The Name Of The Game"
WILL DO !
Please react to SLIPPING THRU MY FINGERS Live from the Dick Cavett TV show, great performance !by ABBA
It always amuses me to see new people struggle with the title! 😄
I was brought up on ABBA, mum always had it on in the car or when she’s was cooking. If it was dad, we had Tom Jones or the three tenors!
Great reaction.❤
It's layered. They're all singing the backing vocals..
I love that you love it!
it remind me my childhood... 🙂
This was filmed in Switzerland for a TV special
I don't if anyone's mentioned it or you've connected the dots yet, but easy way to remember their names. ABBA, their initials (Angetha Benny Bjorn Anni-Fred). Agnetha is the blond and Anni-Fred (goes by Frida) is the brunette. Benny piano, Bjorn guitar. 😁
Abba just didn't make anything bad.
They are the background singers!!
It’s even BETTER, in SPANISH.
They sing it in SPANISH.
It’s, you just have to experience it.
Agnetha, the blond, is not the head singer. Agnetha and Anni-Frid (Frida) is both headsingers.
Benny also plays accordian besides piano and guitar
You should watch some Mamma Mia. It’s a film musical full of Abba songs. They have done 2. Amanda Siefried is an amazing singer.
The blonde girl from ABBA was/is counted as one of the most beautiful women who has ever lived.
and yes i agree, the brunette was hugely attractve too but overshadowed and ignored unfairly id say.
Great reaction ❤
Thank you!! 😁
ya, both guys are singing.
Also ,Fernando ring ring ,he is your brother hole in your soul ,,kisses of fire lovers live a little longer ,
Hello there!I'm from Philippines...a new subscriber of your channel...i think i'm older than you...22yo,enjoying your channel since you react to THE CARPENTERS...even if i'm to late to join this channel of yours...fell in love with Karen Carpenter since i was 10....by the way, don't forget my request,,please play her song I HAVE YOU,I'M CAUGHT BETWEEN GOODBYE AND I LOVE YOU,Etc.
Benny never liked the sound of his own voice, so if his voice is on the recording it's pretty far back in the mix. Bjorn's voice is usually the male voice you hear. The ladies are the background voices you hear. ABBA never used any other background singers. This song is from 1979.
OH WOW , THANK YOU !
You can hear Benny singing the falsetto "lead" in One Man, One Woman at 1:25... His most "prominent effort" regarding singing in ABBA.
@@-NiEr Benny sings the lead in 'Suzy-Hang-Around'.
@@Lisa-M True - I had forgot that! (I have become forgetful)
More used to Björn somtimes singing the lead in different ways, like "Rock Me" and "Crazy World"...
@@-NiEr You can also hear Benny singing in the little demo snippet 'Here Comes Rubie Jamie'. 🙂
Chiquita - banana
Chiquitita - ABBA
Also please check out, The Fizz Live At The Water Rats
They have a big catalogue of hits, let me know if you would like more suggestions from the fizz.
love your reactions play abba under attack and the day before you came ;)
THANK YOU, WILL DO !
oleta adams i just had to hear your voice @@chasevickerss thanks chase ;)greetings all the way from beatle city liverpool uk ;)
chicky-teeta for non-spanish speakers.
Es war ein sehr kalter Dreh. Alles Videos bis auf dieses wurden von Lasse Hallström gedreht.
🙏🏾✨♥️
Background singers are the women also. This is a lip sync performance which was common at the time. Listen to a cd or album version for the best experience.
'Sing a new song Chiquitita' or is it 'sling a noose on Chicken Tika'
Da auf dem Berg war das Schlagzeug und der background den du hörst nicht zu sehen, sie waren da.
Chicky-t-ta (an English person probably shouldn't be trying to help an American with his understanding of Spanish in a Swedish song !)
Abba. Does your mother know? Reaction please
You haven’t done Angel Eyes or Honey honey reaction.
Listen the spanish version, is beaitiful
ruclips.net/video/MSh4Xd33wPw/видео.htmlsi=67vDPkSVAAjwVEd8
The background singers are the girls.
CHI KI TI TA 😂
Bjorn plays piano Benji plays guitar
Nope. Other way round.
