Unusual Inspector Gadget end credit sequence

  • Here's a slightly different "Inspector Gadget" closing credit sequence from the first season episode "Monster Lake." For some reason, the audio is a bit higher-pitched, and resembles the version of the closing theme seen on the second season of "Inspector Gadget," but with the original Frank Welker recording of Dr. Claw and M.A.D. Cat at the end. To my knowledge, this is the only first-season episode with a credit sequence like this. This was taken from the "Inspector Gadget - The Original Series" DVD. This is NOT A SPOOF!
    Also note that this version of the credits is the earlier version where the text is VERY small and difficult to read. This was corrected after nine episodes into the series.
    It also includes the extended 2001 "Incredible World of DiC" logo, the early 80s LBS logo and the 90s Bohbot Entertainment logo, also on the DVD.

    DIC's evergreen Inspector Gadget was distributed by Bohbot Entertainment (already the distributors Ring Raiders and later Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Double Dragon, Hurricanes, Street Sharks, Action Man, Ultraforce and reruns of The Wizard of Oz and StarCom) from September 14, 1992 to September 16, 1994, taking over the show from LBS. Comprising reruns of the decade-old 65 half-hour episodes of season 1. The episodes were time-compressed definitely seen to have been done directly for Bohbot’s new syndicated package of the show. They also added the episode title of an episode to the start in Dom Casual all-caps font (usually in white or red). Bohbot didn’t distributed the final 21 episodes for season 2 as they already had a full package with the 1st 65.
    And I must have seen Bohbot Entertainment prints of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, original syndicated airings of Double Dragon, Hurricanes, Street Sharks, Action Man, and Ultraforce and later prints of The Wizard of Oz, and StarCom: The U.S. Space Force.

    The animated Inspector Gadget was syndicated in 1992 in a number of ways, including:
    CBS: The series was briefly shown on CBS’ “Kid TV” Saturday morning cartoon block from 1991 to 1992. It was the same reruns of the original syndicated program.
    Nickelodeon: Reruns of the show were aired from October 1, 1987, until August 31, 1992 and again from November 4, 1996 until April 29, 2000.
    The Family Channel: Reruns then moved to The Family Channel (now Freeform) on their Fam TV lineup from September 1, 1992 to September 29, 1995.
    Repacked for syndication: Inspector Gadget returned to broadcast weekday syndicated television in September 7, 1992 to September 16, 1994 through Bohbot Entertainment after taking over for LBS, with independent affiliates, along with many Fox stations, and the big 3 network stations-NBC, ABC and CBS.
    International TV stations: The show was also aired on various TV stations internationally and remained in syndication until the 2000’s.
    DIC Entertainment (then called DIC Animation City, Inc. at the time): DIC produced an animated Christmas special based on the program, Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas, in 1992.

    When LBS filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, then it got defunct, in around fall 1992, Bohbot Entertainment distributed all 65 episodes of season 1 of Inspector Gadget in syndicated reruns through various Fox and independent affiliates 5 days at week. DIC themselves repackaged the show, and the episodes were time-compressed by Bohbot. Inspector Gadget was a proven ratings hit by that time. The final 22 episodes of season 2 was never distributed by Bohbot at all.

    This must have come from a fairly recent master tape where they messed up the end logos at the end. The copyright for the end credits says 1983, so this was meant to be the credits from the 1st season.

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf  10 лет назад +1

      David315842 Yeah, this is what I call a "Bohbot" print, due to the Bohbot logo at the end. A few episodes have the "Kid in Bed," others have the "Incredible World of DiC." They also time-compressed the episodes (resulting in the higher pitch here) and added the title of an episode to the start in an ugly all-caps font.

    • @David315842
      @David315842 10 лет назад

      ***** It makes sense if they did that for timing. But then it may have been a PAL master for European/Australian viewing as well. But the recent logos were of course adding in later.

    • @Mesterius1
      @Mesterius1 8 лет назад

      +David315842 If this was a sped-up PAL master, it would play much faster than what we see here. PAL video (when processed the most common way) plays 4.2% faster than NTSC -- and this outro is not nearly that fast compared with the original 1983 version. So this is most definitely time-compressed NTSC video, as wileyk mentions.
      And as it happens: the English-language PAL masters for Inspector Gadget, used for broadcast over the years in areas like Great Britain and Australia, did actually NOT have PAL speed-up! The NTSC masters were converted to PAL video without altering the speed. I own the Australian DVD sets released by Magna Pacific, as well as several UK releases from Fox Kids, and all episodes on there are in the original 1983 NTSC tempo. (Unlike the NTSC DVD set from Shout! factory, ironically enough, where the sped-up Bohbot prints were used for almost all the episodes.)

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf  8 лет назад

      Yeah; the time-compression was done by Bohbot in the 90s, IIRC. They also added the episode titles in that ugly all-caps font (usually in white or red.) Other episodes have the credits at the normal pitch, but not this one for some reason. (A handful of the episodes have a slightly higher pitch to the audio, except for the safety tip segments, like "Down on the Farm," "Gadget at the Circus," "The Boat," "The Haunted Castle," "King Wrong" and "Did You Myth Me?" while others kept the audio at the proper pitch, though the video was still sped up a bit.)

    • @Mesterius1
      @Mesterius1 8 лет назад

      +wileyk209zback Most likely, thinking about it, I'm guessing DiC themselves did the time-compression -- they were the animation studio; and Bohbot was simply the distributor, taking over Gadget from LBS. But I do think the "Bohbot prints" is a good name for these prints. :) The speed-up definitely seems to have been done directly for Bohbot's new syndication package of the series.

    @wileyk209zback: Pitch correction is often used with newer PAL conversions (so they would still be 4% fast but the pitch would be right), however this technique has only come into use in the past decade or so. Maybe they forgot to do pitch correction on this one, or just used an older transfer for whatever reason.
    I don't know why they would be using PAL sources since I assume what you have are region 1 NTSC DVDs, but it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.
