I never thought Quimby was Claw because of these credits, but I find it kinda funny how the clip of the Chief congratulating Gadget (I believe) managed to sync up so well with Claw's line.
Inspector Gadget was the first production of DIC Entertainment (then called DIC Enterprises at that time) intended for American television. In the United States, Inspector Gadget premiered on syndication on local stations on Sept 5, 1983 and ended on Feb 1, 1986, but was re-run consistenly airing syndicated on local and independent stations until the mid-1990's, in 1994, but it remained in syndicated reruns until the early 2000's. Reruns also aired on Nickelodeon from 1987 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 2000. CBS briefly aired Inspector Gadget reruns with a brief prescence on its Saturday morning lineup from 1991 to 1992, on The Family Channel as part of Fam TV programming block from 1992 to 1995, repackaged for syndication on local stations-both independent and network-affiliated, from 1992 to 1994, on Fox Family (later ABC Family) in late 2001, This TV from 2010 to 2011 and again from 2012 to 2013, on Starz Encore Family from 2016 to 2020, and lastly on Qubo from 2019 to the channel's shutdown in 2021. Internationally, it aired on various TV stations and remained in syndication into the late-1990s. Various stations, such as Global Television Network, and The Family Channel aired Inspector Gadget until the late-1990s. A spanish-dubbed of the series aired on Univision's Chispavision block from March 2, 1992 until January 24, 1993. As of early 2022, Inspector Gadget can be streamed on the Paramount+ streaming service as well as on The Roku Channel.
Always remember watching Inspector Gadget on Sky One every morning during the weekend while I was waiting for Transfomers to come on next. Good memories of my childhood
OMG! I just told the missus about this Inspector Gadget-theory of mine, that he is really the bad guy all along but we never find out for sure. I showed her this clip as a base for my theory (because it really DOES look like it's the chief saying that ominous line at the end), and now it turns out I wasn't alone in my ponderings. Imagine what a great twist that would be! Quimby is THE actual bad guy! Epic!!
+Mikael Karlsson We must conduct research on this people it use to bother me as well. No matter how many people I told I thought it was the cheif i was shot down over it!
+Victoria Ramos wait in Inspector Gadget 1x09 Race to the Finish you can clearly see it's two people how is he flying the car and talking to gadget at the same time
In the 2010's, 40 select episodes of Inspector Gadget aired on ThisTV on the This is For Kids syndicated morning block from 2010 to 2011; and returned from 2012 to 2013.
You know how Chief Quimby appears right as Dr Claw says the "I'll get you next time Gadget. Next time!" line? Call me crazy, but I always thought it was a subtle hint that the Chief and Claw were the same person! Think about it; the Chief would be the perfect cover-up for Claw to keep his organisation's crimes under-wraps, AND it would allow him the means to dispatch Gadget on missions that are really just set-ups for him to eliminate and re-programme Gadget to make him evil. If memory serves me right, we also never usually see Dr Claw in an episode until after the Chief has delivered his message to Gadget, so him being Claw would explain why the Chief disappears in every episode after the message blows up, and why the Chief only ever seems to show up to congratulate Gadget once Dr Claw "escapes" in each episode. Hell, it even looks like the Chief is saying the bulk of Claw's line in the clip they use for the end credits! The Chief's mouth is way too in sync with Dr Claw's voice over...
+BrainDeadBoffin Omg okay I'am not the only one that thought that. However it busted my theory. One episode the Chief was captured by Claw and placed in a block of ice....but I still think its him as well!
Kind of like in the 'Pink Panther' franchise - The Big Bad turns out to be Cleuseau's boss who has been driven criminally insane by the 'hero's' incompetence and stupidity. Nice thought!
When This TV aired Inspector Gadget repeats for 3 years, in September 27, 2010 to September 25, 2011 and again from October 1, 2012 to October 31, 2013 as a weekday offering to fill educational television mandates, which either used the the 1990 version of the 2nd "Kid in Bed" DIC logo with the 1987 voiceover, the 1996 Saban International logo with the alternate 10-note fanfare, and the 2001 Fox Kids logo older prints from Fox Family/ABC Family or the DiC Kids Network syndicated prints, at least until 2013, when the block was dropped.
Who else thought that archive footage of Inspector Gadget shaking his head "no" while Dr. Claw said "I'll get you next time, Gadget" was Gadget responding "No you won't"? I always wondered if the editors did that intentionally.
I'd Still Totally Would've Like To See Darkwing Duck Constantly Teaming Up With Inspector Gadget For The Thrill Of Constantly OutSmarting Dr Claw And His Mad Agents
These closing credits seem to have come from Cookie Jar Toons when they rerunning Inspector Gadget on thisTV Network from 2010-2011; 2012-2013, along with other DiC cartoons. They don’t air Gadget no more, however its still on running on Light-TV, STARZ Encore Family, Qubo and currently MeTV Toons.
I say we can use this ending song to John Carpenter's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) for the part where the president (Donald Pleasence) is playing the cassette tape for the whole world to hear and it accidentally turns out to be INSPECTOR GADGET.
This is the early version of the first season end credits, with small text that gets really difficult to read at times. (These episodes generally all originally ended with the silent 1983 DiC "Vortex" logo.) Starting with "The Ruby," the end credits were revised with a larger bolder typeface making it much easier to read. (In most cases, episodes with this revised end credit sequence originally ended with the custom DiC logo with Gadget dotting the "i" with his mallet.)
I was always wondering if the big reveal at the end of the series would’ve been that Chief was Dr Claw, just because of how his voice lines up with Chief towards the end of the credits
Inspector Gadget reruns aired on This TV from 2010-11 and then again from 2012-13, using the Fox Kids and/or Saban masters of the show. And this has the early to late 90's version of the "Kid in Bed" DiC logo (the one with the "dreamy" music with the 1987 voiceover, but it was sped up).
Don’t blame you tbh (honestly if i heard that as a child while watching inspector gadget i would’ve run out the room and not come back in until it was over)
I remember loving this show as a kid,, though I'm 100% sure there was a Finnish intro and outro but sadly I can't find them anywhere to live up the complete nostalgia. XD
I’d Still Totally Would’ve Like To See The Equestria Girls Having To Enjoy Constantly Dancing And Singing Along To The Inspector Gadget Theme Song Even If The Equestria Girls And DarkWing Duck Might Have To Keep On Teaming Up With Inspector Gadget On OutSmarting Dr Claw
Still obsessed with this cartoon.. I used to watch this when I came to eat lunch from school.. Daily 12:00 to 12:30 : Tarzaan 12:30 to 1:00 : Inspector Gadget ❤
Cross Inspector Clouseau (the bumbling policeman who inspired DePatie-Freleng's toon The Inspector) with TV's Maxwell Smart, and throw in a healthy dollop of Plastic Man - and you still won't quite equal Inspector Gadget. Gadget was a cartoon cop whose 86 episodes were originally syndicated between 1983 and '85, and have been rerun endlessly ever since. In attitude and outlook, he closely resembled the title character of the secret agent sitcom Get Smart - and was even voiced by Get Smart's star, Don Adams (whose other toon connections include having been the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo). But he went a step farther than Max by having all those sci-fi accoutrements (which, like the earlier Dynomutt, he hasn't quite mastered the use of) built right into his body. Aided by his niece, Penny (who called him "Uncle Gadget") and Penny's dog, Brain, he fought a wide variety of menaces, a majority of which were instigated by the evil organization M.A.D. Inspector Gadget was never a comic book star, tho he did appear in two Golden Books =- Little Golden Book, Inspector Gadget in Africa and Inspector Gadget in the Case of the Mixed-Up Sciencetist. Other than that and a prime-time special in the early 1990s, Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas, he remained just a cartoon character in syndicated reruns until well into the 1990s - albeit, a very fondly remembered one. Then, in 1996, The History Channel did a series called Inspector Gadget's Field Trips, in which the character hosted a show about the history of various parts of the world. And in 1999, he followed in the footsteps of Mr. Magoo and George of the Jungle by appearing in a live-action Disney feature film. But as that film showed, after all these years, he still hasn't completely learned to use all his gadgets.
Here, dear viewers, you can see how the quality of image we are served with gets worse with age. The smallest font is almost readable here even though in modern airings they had to replace all credits with these computer-generated ones because image became too blurry to read even bigger font. Distributors just copy the copies and quality gets worse. Let's hope someone will finally re-scan the original reels and we will get real HD. But for now, we can only watch French version which has still sharp image because French owners are caring enough to use the original tapes for copying from time to time.
These credits seem to have come from Cookie Jar Toons(THiS is for Kids) when they aired Inspector Gadget, along with other DiC cartoons. They don't air Gadget anymore, however its still running on Light-TV and STARZ.
Actually, no they didn't. DiC was DiC all the way until the studio was purchased and closed in 2008. And Cookie Jar, the Canadian company which bought them that year, was founded back in 2004.
0:43-0:48 I noticed on TV during my childhood that for some reason two of DIC Entertainment's cartoon shows from the 1980s; Inspector Gadget (the original 1980s series) and Dennis The Menace (1986 cartoon series) have the Saban International logo added at the end (with the latter show having the Saban logo plastering over the Program Exchange logo), even though Saban never owned these two cartoon shows.
If you're from a different country, Inspector Gadget was distributed by Saban International outside of the United States and Canada, which is why the 1996 Saban International logo replaces either the 1976 or the 1984 LBS logos. It's either that you were from a different country besides the United States and Canada or the airings you watched were from international prints of the show.
Hey, do the theme and credits to Inspector Gadget, as aired on The Family Channel (pre-FOX Family/ABC Family/Freeform) as part of FAM TV from 1992-95? It has the early to late 90's version of the "Kid in Bed" DiC logo (the one with the "dreamy" music), plastering either the 1983 custom "Inspector Gadget", and/or Vortex logo.
French, American - Japanese Co production has the same ending titles style dont you think? Well, at least DIC productions in the 80's: Ulises 31 - Ending Latino
I nailed Dr Claw's voice after many many attempts of trying and lost my voice for 2 weeks. I was also 35 when this happened lol
Been there done that, still occasionally do it lol

MonitaLeaf12 plus chef quimby isn't claw
Plus that facial expression right after Penny walks by. It makes me laugh every time I see it!
The recording of Dr. Claw does actually somewhat match up with with the lip sync. Likely a coincidence but could be a funny classic twist.
I know right LOL!!
Yeah funny, i thought i was the only person that noticed that, lol
I randomly remembered I grew up watching this showww, glad to listen to this nostalgic tune
I always remember the ending credits of this popular 80s cartoon.

/disillusioned "dick..."
The kid that said "DiC" in the 1990 version was replaced by a much sadder and boring "DiC" from the 1988 version.
You should try Cracked's list of cartoon theories. One of which says that Dr. Claw is the real Gadget, and actually makes a reasoned argument for it.
The logos at the end of each Inspector Gadget rerun like this would be the DiC Kid in Bed, Saban International, and Fremantle.
Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, Dennis the Menace, PeeWee's PlayHouse, The Littles, Rainbow Brite, the all star lineup back in the day...
Here, dear viewers, you can see how the quality of image we are served with gets worse with age. Actually, no they didn't. DiC was DiC all the way until the studio was purchased and closed in 2008. And Cookie Jar, the Canadian company which bought them that year, was founded back in 2004.
Mmm, I had no idea, Thanks.
I Was Sometimes Disturb By The End
“Inspector Gadget, Oh, Oh”
what were some other good dic cartoons this was the only one I remember seeing as a kid
Right after the DiC "The Incredible World of DiC" logo, the logo for Buena Vista International ("Cinderella's Castle" variant) appears instead.
my theory was always that Dr. Claw was a past Inspector Gadget, which explains why he never hurt Penny as well
Fun fact: The Claw is voiced by Don Francks, father of Cree Summer, who voices Penny.
I think I've outgrown this
Looks like Chief is telling Gadget that he will get him next time!
The VHS release had the copyright notice "©1999 Disney. All Rights Reserved." shown intact.
