I've decided to compare the experience of doing a dark type only playthrough in Pokémon games. This means I need to do a dark type only run in some Pokémon Games. That starts this week in Pokémon Ruby.
Music used in this video.
Donkey Kong - Stickerbrush Symphony
Pokemon - SV Trainer Battle
Xenoblade - Gaur Plains
Kirby - Dangerous Dinner
Fire Emblem - Apex of the World
Hollow Knight - Dirtmouth
Apologies in advance if the voiceover sounds a bit rough. I was getting over a cold and too impatient to wait to record the narration.
17:09 "...halfway decent teab 🤧"
That's the first time I noticed, then saw the comment lol 🤣 Hope you are fully recovered and doing well!
° Makes Dark use special attack
° Make most Dark types physical attackers
Balancing
It's so weird. Bite and crunch are special type. And even if they wanted to make dark special, why make all the pokemon physical attackers.
Was wondering what to expect this week and getting another pokemon series is a welcome surprise!
Feel better soon!
Thank you! Fortunately, my videos are done weeks in advance. So I'm already back to healthy. My voice will still be a bit off in next week's video though. Lol
They claim confusion is a 50% chance to hit yourself, but thats never been my experience either
The cruelties of probability.
100% of the time your pokemon hit themselves, and 100% of the time your opponent's pokemon don't hit themselves.
Half and half. 50% probability.
There's a reason it's reduced to 30% nowadays
Ooh more pokemon! I love it.
And Ruby is definitely a strong contender to start with for the Dark-type. Since, you know, you can actually use them!
I predict that they'll actually be a very reliable type. Even with some of the weakest being featured in Gen 3, they're still fairly solid. And in future games (where Dark isn't purely special) they really pick up their game.
I find that types that are blocked by another type's immunity to them suffer heavily in casual play, especially in mono-type runs. Since Dark doesn't suffer from that issue and is only resisted by Dark, Fighting, & Steel (until gen 6 where Steel is replaced by Fairy) it's likely going to have very good neutral coverage.
I'm excited for more, and hope X/Y is on the list of games you play. Since they have a lot more Fairy-Types than you see in the early game of other entries.
It's probably going to be the hardest challenge though, without the Physical/Special split (and without Sableye)
I don't remember Gen 4, having Dark Type before the first gym. Gen 5 could be interesting, because it has some really powerful options, but also lots of late levelers.
I'd love to see Inkay, so I'll agree with X/Y (or USUM. Malamar is truly amazing in USUM)
@shytendeakatamanoir9740 If Xeph did 4 games instead of 3 I'd recommend RSE, BW, XY, SV as the games they should play.
Tho, for all the type challenges I'd recommend SV since it drastically changes the play style.
So if they're just doing 3 games I'd recommend RSE, BW, XY. Which is interesting, since they're so close together but they also probably show the biggest range of changes to the Dark-type across the series.
That damn flying gym puzzle! I swear every time I waste far to much time going in a circle in there haha
The video footage was actually my second time through the gym after clearing out the trainers. So I really had no excuse.
Hope ya feel better soon, Xeph!

nice video, it was fun. make more plz!!
Will do! :)
Oh thank god, I was so sleepy and with nothing to enjoy
Yea gamefreak did dark types really dirty prior to gen 4. I think they made dark special because ghost was physical and they didn't want to change how ghost type worked.
That could be and kind of makes sense. I mean, it doesn't really make any sense to me that ghost type was physical. But that gen 1 weirdness already decided, it kind of makes sense for dark to be assigned special. Especially when they added steel at the same time, and that absolutely had to be physical.
