Hey rob idk if you will see my comment but I'm not completely sure cause that 1858 has corroded, but to me me it looks like an 1858/57 flying eagle cent.
That's great that the seller's mother just happened to put the S-mint Indian cent on one end, with the reverse showing, and the 1867 with the obverse showing on the other end. What a coincidence.
Hi , I been looking to fill my collection, found the same vendor, ordered 4 rolls, 2 rolls had 2 Indian head pennies, both ends, and 3 within. The same for the last 2 , one roll had 4 within and 2 ender's. Was very happy with shipment overall. Love your videos, I'm learning new things from them, thank you and bless you.
Hey Rob. Cool opening! People have been selling rolls like this on eBay since I was a teenager. It's a huge market now. As I'm sure you know, it's mostly fun and games, and risky to pay more than what the enders are worth. The stories have been the same for the last 15 years. lol Also, for the Indian heads, there are some other variables which can increase the grade. The liberty lettering is not conclusive (only a reference point). You actually sell yourself short on the grading. The feather tips (which I've found to be the most important factor), plus the lines in the shield, arrows, and the ridges around the rim come into play when giving it an overall. If you sent the 1867 in for grading, I would honestly be surprised if it came back lower than F-12. And would guarantee not less than VG-10. On some of the older bronze indian heads (pre 1886 type 2) they wore down slightly different. You can even have coins that have a couple of the middle liberty letters not 100% clear and still grade in the VF range. It just depends on the feathers and some of the other details. I need to do a video on indian heads. They're one of my favorite coins in higher grades (I especially love the older ones) and it's the type of coin I've traded the most during my collecting years. I used to buy tons of dark and damaged semi-key dates with XF-AU details and flip them slowly over time for 200-500%+ profits. I've even resold environmentally damaged metal detector finds on ebay that just needed better pictures to show the hiding details. :)
Hey Nice hunt brother...Dang that was well worth the price, how much did you say again? Also, I missed the sellers name? LOL... I love hunting wheaties, I just recently paid 45 dollars for about 12 lb.s of wheaties (local estate auction) and did well. 1 1909VDB, 5-1909 some 1929, 1930, 31, 33 BUs. I probably had 2 lbs of teens, 2 lbs of 20's, about 2 rolls of 30's and all the rest were 1940s and 50s. But had some really nice coins that made my wheatie album much fuller and prettier. But I am really hurting for early S mints. Nice video and as always Happy Hunting brother.
I've seen people selling rolls of Morgan Silver Dollars with cc enders and people pay over a thousand dollars for the rolls. I've heard stories that some people will put a few good in rolls and trick people. I've also heard that some people have found really good coins.
Amazing little roll. To think about the stories behind all these coins and the pockets they have been in. Nearly 100 years between the oldest and newest. Quite a lot of history right there.
I enjoy your videos! My Dad got me semi into coin collecting, mostly wheat backs, silver and old nickels. I'm currently active duty AF and was stationed in Guam 2006-2009. I found more old coins there than I ever have! I wish I paid more attention or at least tried to search more, but it's a small hobby of mine. Thanks again for the cool videos!!!
If you go to a coin show in your area you would probably be able to buy common Indian Head Cents (1901-1907) for a buck apiece. They'll be G4, or so, but are still attractive coins.
S mint mark ender too cool.. wow nice finds senor! You got legit rolls as most of the Indian head ender rolls only have the ender and a bunch of crap coins to follow lol
Rob, I was pulling for that 1909 S, still a great roll at any rate, that's for sure. Can't be mad with the Flying Eagle, 1867, 1908 S, all those Indian Heads, and some quality older wheat cents. Good find IMO. That was a fun watch!
That was one of my favorite videos that you put out!! So much fun to watch!!! I'm glad you said it was probably a break even roll, because I was going to say it was so worth it even if you paid a little more than the value! Pay to play, but you got your money's worth for sure!! AWESOME!!!! Have a GREAT Day!!!!!!
The head feathers are a much better place to look when dealing with Indian head cents Rob. The liberty band is a good reference point but the feathers are where the high points are located
Just got my nickel mat and my penny mat in today, absolutely *stunning* quality! Really super impressed, thank you for the amazing quality and relatively fast ship time! Can't wait to use them!
I have been buying and selling coins most of my life and was guessing what you thought the grade and value as you when along. Your estimints where and mine where very close to each others. Great job. One of my best finds is a 1913 S type 2 Buffalo nickel which filled out my set.
I bought a couple rolls for cheap that claimed unsearched. well ok. was underwhelmed to say the least. Now I found a seller that says she has hundreds from a collector's estate that rolled em up before he passed. she said she found many empty coin albums. she also claimed she opened 3 rolls and got over twenty IH pennies from each, plus a bunch of nice nice wheaties. these rolls were not cheap. I will let you know how it goes when I get them next week
The 1867 looks like it could be a counterfeit. Have it checked out. First thing you can do yourself is weigh it an see if it is within tolerable limits.
I have bought some "unsearched" penny rolls on Ebay before and I have not been THRILLED. I have been happy since I know there is no such thing as an Unsearched roll. Someone somewhen searched them. Still, nice get Rob.
Rob I got my first coins coming from on line in a few days I am excited one group is from an estate sale currency is supposed to be coming to with blue seals I hope they are ligit and not a liar.
Rob have you ever tried a bag of silver search? I got a $25 dollar face bag from apmex 16 dated mercury dimes, 3 slick mercs, 2 proof 64's and many 40'S and 50'S mixed mint and about half were 1964's.
Hey rob. just found and started watching your channel. absolutely great vidoes. been watching a lot of yours. gotta say your my new favorite coin hunter. iv subbed. and il be sure to share your channel with my familly and friends.
I've bought a lot of nice roll enders on ebay....be careful. I'd be happy with what you got (sounds like you are), but for everyone else out there...listen up. When buying these rolls, you are bidding on the enders only! You can expect dog crap in between....maybe a nice shiny with an unattractive scratch. If they are enders with just nice reverse showing (wheat's) expect those to be both 1958 and lots of garbage in between. You can catch some nice coins...but remember, you're bidding on the ends only.
Rolls like these would be great for people trying to fill books that don’t have many old coins in there books already just to fill it or good for people in areas like mine where it’s impossible to find wheat cents
Sure gets the heart pounding when you pull out a copper-colored 1943, huh? I don't think I trust that any rolls are unsearched, so I've only bought some in the past just to get some more wheats for my collection.
One problem when you go about pricing those coins is that's a very high end estimate and 2 that's for problem free coins. That 1861 looks like it's been cleaned. Also that 19 0 8 is definitely cleaned. Unfortunately in that condition it isn't worth anywhere close to that number. Actually picked up an XF in that year that was barely cleaned NGC graded for 55 bucks
Condition of the roll paper makes me wonder what coins were swapped out for those 50s coins, which were completely incongruous with the other coins. Or maybe it was a stuffed roll. Or both. My Dad collected all through the 1950s. He said that IHPs were not common, ie, very rare back then. He got most of his from friendly cashiers who would trade them with Dad for face value. Dad was just a kid in the 50s, so people used to save coins for him. 👍 But Dad and his brother used to go to a local bank and go through sack after sack of pennies, right there in the bank. Banks were way more friendly then, I guess. But maybe it was because Grandpa was a baker with a business account. They let Dad have his finds for face value.
you know you like flying eagles! too bad that wasn't a 1926 S, my daughter still reminds me that she found one about once a week. Those IHP were incredible. Thanks for sharing this, one of your old ebay wheat penny roll videos motivated me to order some myself. I'm hoping to open them over labor day :-)
I wonder if they tracked who you were and saw you had a decent following so they juiced the contents up a bit. That would explain the different ends than they had in the posting.
Good point! Looking at their completed auctions, almost every roll has desirable enders on both ends. Why aren't any of the enders more common wheat pennies? What are the chances that every roll they sell has great enders by accident?
Zero percent. The story doesn’t even check out. Clearly this person’s “mother” thought that 40s and 50s wheats should be saved. Why then is there not a majority of these dates? They are the most common. If she was randomly filling up rolls, then the most recent and plentiful coins should be in there. And if she was supposedly pulling these out of circulation from the bank a long time ago, shouldn’t the younger wheats look uncirculated? If it is too good to be true, it probably isn’t. Rob just got the upgrade pack.
Hey Rob I have a tie pin that when I looked at it closely of a buffalo I was thinking it looked like a buffalo nickel so I pulled off tie back and it is a buffalo nickel
I bought from this same person before. He knows about coins, put two great coins or in his case sometimes civil war tokens on the ends and fill the rest with wheat pennies, and maybe a 2 or 3 indians. Roll i bought had a 1909S Lincoln and a 1886 type 2 indian head on ends
@RFT, the 1860's indians are actually much higher grade they you think. The 1860's indians were plauged by poor strikes and with the exception of the 1867 were all VF25 or above. The 1908'S I'd grade at XF40. The bluebook grading guide is very poor because it doesn't consider die state, or quality of strike. For indians, pay particulae attention to the feathers in the headress. Yours have partial diamonds with signifigant detail remaining. Furthermore, on the 1861 it had two reverse retained cuds (RCD). Not trying to be cynical. I started working at an LCS and picked up on a lot of this stuff. IMO the 1867 is F-15, not G-VG.
More in line with my own coin buying. Well, here lately I have only been buying graded coins, and I usually only buy from dealers. Either way, I love these guys. Put them in an EOS so I can win them.
If you can I really want you to do an info video on the 1872 Victorian 50 cent Canadan piece reverse A in the word Victoria please I really need this 🙏🏻
Hey Rob by all accounts that was a pretty darn good penny roll always great to see Indian head pennies and that was the first flying eagle I've ever seen absolutely fantastic thank you for sharing that with us keep up the great work 👍🇬🇧
+matt schwope It's worth less than $217, for sure, but the seller was smart enough to throw in some decent CNs and early Wheats. They're not worth that much, but it makes the roll look better. I think most sellers would put nothing but 40s and 50s Wheats in the middle of the roll. That 1908-S is awfully marked up, even for its relatively low grade. I wouldn't buy it unless it was going for like $30 or something, but I'm awfully picky on condition.
Kind of odd that all the 50's looked so worn but there were no memorial cents and many of the IHC looked equally worn, not worse. Did the seller know you or that you would video the hunt on RUclips? If (s)he did, the loose ends of the roll might have been because the flying eagle and the 1861 were added. It's not that you were foolish to buy a "S IHC" ender. I've done the same thing twice. Also the vdb cent and 1916 dime enders. I do have all three coins, but had to buy the 1909 S vbd and 1909 S IHC on eBay and I inherited the 16 D from my grandfather. Still, it is fun to look.
I remember I found a 1904 Indian cent in amazing condition and I bought it for 1 cent , the reason… someone put it in the 1 dollar for 6 coins bin and I saw it and immediately took, this was at a coin store , for 1 cent !
Rob I am new to your channel and have never "coin hunted" how do I get started? do I just go to a bank and ask for coins? sort through them and take them back for new ones? please help seems like it could be fun. ps I live in the middle of nowhere sand hills, but we do have a couple banks in my town. biggest being Wells Fargo and Bank of the West. Thanks

Cool video always fun to see the coin that made me start collecting (1919 s)
wow what a good find, you did good, waiting for the next hunt
I have been buying and selling coins most of my life and was guessing what you thought the grade and value as you when along. Your estimints where and mine where very close to each others. Great job. One of my best finds is a 1913 S type 2 Buffalo nickel which filled out my set.

The 1867 looks like it could be a counterfeit. Have it checked out. First thing you can do yourself is weigh it an see if it is within tolerable limits.
Amazing roll! Can't complain with 9 IHC and a FE when the roll only guaranteed 2 IHCs
A very unusual roll. I'm sure you are happy with your new found treasures. I would be. Well done RFT.
Man the 1867 and 1908 are beautiful coins, incredible addition to the collecion!!!

I'd also like to say that Flying Eagle was a nice surprise, although I never cared for that design. It makes me think of a pelican.
Great video. Those are some really nice finds. Those pennies look awesome. Keep doing what you are doing and have a great and blessed day.
At 7:16, I think I see some doubling. Look towards the serif on the "C"
I think it’s just corrosion wear
Thats awesome, love the Indian head pennies. Congrats on the hunt.
1858 is either small/large letters or the 8/7 and the 1863 is copper nickel
Sweet I'm going shop e-bay very cool you made out on your purchase
The end looked opened... and you broke even.. probably just a coincidence lol
nice roll! very interesting range of dates
Condition of the roll paper makes me wonder what coins were swapped out for those 50s coins, which were completely incongruous with the other coins.

its so weird seeing a 1858 flying eagle and a 1956 wheat cent right next to eachother! 100 years of history right there
I listened to a podcast where they open a roll of pennies that were from the early 1800’s. It was his grandfathers coins that were in his desk.
One day in like 60 years I hope to find where your great grand kids take your coins to a bank
Oof
@@imstillchoosingmyname oof indeed.
@@imstillchoosingmyname Why oof?
Good find with the 1861 👍
Awesome pick up brother. Love them penny hunts. Thank you for sharing with us. Just beautiful 😍😍😍
Oh ebay, you cease to amaze me 💪😎👍
It really makes you curious what a box could truly be like if people who collected like this dumped their collection.
I know... We can dream and hunt!
The fatty with detail is nice. But that flying eagle! **gasp** that'll make any box hunter gelly.
Here's to a future boxfull like that roll.
Hey Rob I have a tie pin that when I looked at it closely of a buffalo I was thinking it looked like a buffalo nickel so I pulled off tie back and it is a buffalo nickel
Very nice finds Rob thank u
Is it just me or did I see some die cracks on the top of the reverse on the 1861?
New to coin roll hunting, curious have you ever tried casino rolls?
Mike Wachter casino rolls? Interesting
Just figured hmmm cause who takes the time to look through money they playing
My favorite is the Flying Eagle Cent because it's the shorter mint time
More in line with my own coin buying. Well, here lately I have only been buying graded coins, and I usually only buy from dealers. Either way, I love these guys. Put them in an EOS so I can win them.
I’d buy that 1863 penny I have wanted a coin that old for a long time now my oldest coin is a 1939 s nickel
Rob I think a 1908 s is a key date of 3,000,000 minted.
Yes it is. But 1909 S IHC is even more key.
If you can I really want you to do an info video on the 1872 Victorian 50 cent Canadan piece reverse A in the word Victoria please I really need this 🙏🏻
Almost 40k already!!!!!!! :O
I remember when you hit 14k live!!!
50k is close
@@michellecallahan2218 Jeez ikr
@Indian Head Sense I joined him when he had about 5k... You were on earlier than me lol. Also, I might recognize your name...
Great vid, enjoyed watching you search the roll. Also, how much did you pay for the roll?
Hey Rob by all accounts that was a pretty darn good penny roll always great to see Indian head pennies and that was the first flying eagle I've ever seen absolutely fantastic thank you for sharing that with us keep up the great work 👍🇬🇧
Hey Rob, how much did you pay for this roll if you don’t mind answering?
I saw the ebay listing it was 217 dollars
Robert Ostroff wow that’s a lot more than I thought it would go for
@@sostroff30 and how much do you think all of these would be worth?
+matt schwope It's worth less than $217, for sure, but the seller was smart enough to throw in some decent CNs and early Wheats. They're not worth that much, but it makes the roll look better. I think most sellers would put nothing but 40s and 50s Wheats in the middle of the roll. That 1908-S is awfully marked up, even for its relatively low grade. I wouldn't buy it unless it was going for like $30 or something, but I'm awfully picky on condition.
Cool purchase and unboxing! IHP is a lovely design.
Hey rob I’m looking forward to getting a box of halves.. is it worth it??
Every box tells a story - some great, some good, most bad - but when you get the great boxes - it makes it all worth it.
It's always worth it....if you only pay 50 cents each coin, lol
My first box of halves was all clad. I got one NIFC
If your willing to dump $500 on a box upfront
@@Noble4Truths And if your time has no value. And if your bank doesn't get fed up with you returning huge amounts of coins.
How do I know which pennies are copper and what do I do with them when I have them. Thanks
Nice hunt Rob!!! :)
Thanks
Cool finds I have a 1919 wheat penny
One of THE most common wheat dates. Value: 3-10c.
What did u pay at the end you said you "broke even" but i would like to know a good price to pay
Derrick D I think he paid 217, if u pause correctly u can see on the computer screen
Derrick D do not buy eBay “unsearched” rolls, please. Most of the time they are scams designed to prey on new coin collectors
Wow, how the heck did you do that, and where do you go to find those roles?
Ebay
