Saw them 8 times in the 1980's . The greatest band I have ever seen. met most of them . Bruce is a legend. My younger brother died of cancer as did Mark M. (rtp to both).
Lyrics They don't want me They used to want me But they don't want me anymore I used to belong Now I don't belong It's not the same song anymore We used to play games We used to trade names Now we don't play games anymore They don't want me They used to want me But they don't want me anymore Now I'm all alone No one left to help chip the stone And now this awful weed begins to grow Cause they don't want me They don't want me They used to want me Not anymore They don't want me (we don't want you) They used to want me Not anymore (Stupid jerk, get out of here)
Stan was in large part WOV in the sense that he was the voice of the band. So this shoots down that theory. Also one of the things that Andy had a difficult time filling Stan's shoes was Stan Ridgeways sense of timing with individual words in the his lyrics. Stan's time of voice also matched the desolate dark glam if the synths. Of all the IRS bands WOV is the closest to the English sounds of that time period mainly Gang of Four and XTC..
Stan did what Stan did . He was a great front man, and lyricist. But he did not write more than bits to the music . Marc and his Brother Bruce wrote composed most of WOV's music eg Mexican Radio. Andy wrote both music and lyrics (wrong way to Hollywood is my fav WOV track) , and by 1986 was also a great front man . I liked both the Stan and Andy era of WOV and saw them live numerous times in the 1980's . Best band I have ever seen . Re Ebglish bands I always though that another of my all time fav bands = Joy Division were ice to the fire of WOV.
Stan R was not WOV. he contributed very little of the band's music. Mostly lyrics. They were just as brilliant with Andy Preiboy. Listen to "wrong way to Hollywood" , "the grass is greener", Blackboard sky" or "don't spill my courage" brilliant and Andy composed as well as wrote lyrics. great front man too.
Wow!!! This song actually describes my life at 57yrs old. Family, friends...all gone. Actually found solace with Phil Collins "I Don't Care Anymore"
Hey Glen! There's always solace to be found in good rock-'n'-roll! Your life can change in an instant.
same here at 39,.. this is sadly my anthem as well
This and "asleep " by the SMITHS!!
I will be your friend
Amen 🙏
one of my favorite songs of all time.
i love this song, this band. this is what i call a ballad. you can put these guys in the new wave hall of fame and then close it. end of story.

Agreed !
I had never heard this before! It is great!
Masterpiece of the highest Order _ music production perfection and the album cover fine Art
Great song! Wall of Voodoo was such an original sound.
Awesome!! ...and I do Miss Wall of Voodoo!
gruppo pazzesco! 40 anni avanti!
Very underated band!
Great song. They just stuck with what worked & didn't gunk it up. Still sounds good today.
WOV to most people, including music lovers would get a blank expression and a who!
I don't care about what most people think.
une des meilleures chansons du XXe siècle. irréelle et prémonitoire !
2020
Lyrics
They don't want me
They used to want me
But they don't want me anymore
I used to belong
Now I don't belong
It's not the same song anymore
We used to play games
We used to trade names
Now we don't play games anymore
They don't want me
They used to want me
But they don't want me anymore
Now I'm all alone
No one left to help chip the stone
And now this awful weed begins to grow
Cause they don't want me
They don't want me
They used to want me
Not anymore
They don't want me (we don't want you)
They used to want me
Not anymore (Stupid jerk, get out of here)
Great song and all Call Of The West album
So....F*@KING Badass this song is!!!!!!!
Like this Stan Ridgway so much more than the "narrative tales portraying slices of Americana" one.
The highlight of the album, to me. Nice upload! Sounds good.
One of my all time favorites, cheers for posting it!

WOV I wov you. x
Capolavoro
an amazing band. once stan left it went downhill though.
this god damn song.
Sucks the only thing people ever hear by these guys is "Mexican Radio."
Sucks on them for not buying the album.
Thank-you Brian Short for sharing your collection @#TheSteamworks Fresno 80s.
I am glad you put this video up
I love this song pure alternative
Killers took so much inspiration from this lot
Yeah sure, I doubt most killers ever heard this song.
This song was about abandoning bad relationships. Nothing else.
Grandísima banda. Gran descubrimiento gracias a Miami Vice.
Grandi wall at voodoo
obviously.... I still .. love these guys
yes.. stanard and guys got caught up in the game that killed them.......
Einfach geniale Mucke das Anfang der 80 er mit der dicken TueteM.L
Actually an amazing song from a New Wave group.
Lots of different ways to interpret the meaning though.
A HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHT :D :D :D
♡♡♡
TOP
Even the between song interludes...
Tampoco es para despreciar lo que se hizo despues de que se fuera Stan, son muyyyy buenos.
😠 angst dirge. Being an outsider. Want to be part of in crowd. Reality ✔
It’s not the same song anymore…
Da gab es noch leckeren Ki Li

+Keith Bate Most of those songs are really bad. Also I disagree, this guy seems like a non-confident person for a front man
David Mattatall
In your opinion David and they "make the world go round"
Stan was WoV...the other guy was unnecessary..
