One of the biggest problems for kalista imo is how much slows and as cripples destroy her, both her mobility and her dps are tied together and dependant on one another, so if she gets slowed her dash range get shortened as well, and if she gets crippled then she attacks way less and she dashes less often as a result. slows and cripples are basically roots to her, if you're having problems vs a kalista just buy frozen heart, it just works

For the Pro Play problems it really stings since they often don't get played in Pro Play either, and how vehement riot is about it. Azir has a nasty tendency to if he is even selected in a single Pro Play match, to get nerfed the following patch win or lose. Mobility of an assassin/diver, damage comparable to that of most hyper carries, durability comparable to most juggernauts thanks to her constant healing, hard cc, soft cc, damage reduction and an AS buff. Her kit if far too overloaded for one champion, but none of these things on their own are that broken. They could fix her if they wanted too but they don't for reasons of character assassination. And as anyone will point out her only counters are CC which counters every other champion in the game (except olaf), and anti heal... Which in itself is in a state of requirement in every game because of the prevalence of champions with self healing now. Every other champion either has an inbuilt heal, or takes one through runes.

One way that i think they could improve tournaments and prevent you from seeing the same comp all over is that they could implement a list for each team. Every champ picked by them or the opposing team cannot be used for the rest of the tournament starting on the quarter finals and each list is exclusive to that team. That would create fun strategies where you could either pick strong champs at the start to reduce the amount of plays and "reduce" the list or leave the stronger champs in the bench for when they are needed.

    • @galactick3816
      @galactick3816 3 года назад +6

For this they would likely have to get rid of bans in tournaments since if a team kept the strong champs for later, they would just get target banned.
Let's say that after every game you'd have to ban 1 champion you played in that game (groups would eliminate 8 champs for each team if you have 5 team groups) and it would reward teams that manage to pull of 3:0s and 3:1s since they would have 1 or 2 champs more than the team that got through on 5 game Bo5s. (If this was the rule, DWG would have likely won just because they stomped before and EDG went to game 5 in almost every round after groups)

I think the coordination element is the thing that makes certain things so much better in pro-play than in soloque. Ryze ult is 10x better and more impactful when you’re in comms. It goes from meh cross map mobility to single handedly game winning macro tool when everyone is on the same page. Prop layers are not THAT much better than soloque players at the high end of the ladder. In many instances they’re actually mechanically WORSE, what they do have is practice and experience working as a coordinated unit, which is not what you’ll get in soloque, reguardless of elo. And what I think all of the ‘balance nightmare’ champions have is either they are too self-sufficient (I.e they need very little from their team in order to execute their play style) or they synergize too well with coordination.

  • @Xertaron.
    @Xertaron. 3 года назад +96

The main reason Akali is broken is due to fact that only select few champions have the ability to reveal her during her smoke bomb. If there was an item that grants true sight she wouldn't be nearly as problematic. If you try to gank her, she pops W and runs away, in teamfight it creates massive issue, because inability to target her gives her huge zone control, which is not something assasin should have.
Riot keeps nerfing her damage which is futile. Her damage isn't an issue, it's how quickly and safely she can deal it - low risk, high reward most of the time.
I hate to bring Dota 2 everytime, but if Akali was a hero in that game she would be just another one in the pool and no one aside from the lowest of lowest rank players would complain about her, because there's plenty of counterplay for everything she can do.
Irelia's can't be fixed by tweaking her numbers, because her main issue stands from how the game is designed - your own minions are your worst enemies. Again, if minions could be denied like in Dota 2, the lane dynamic would change drastically and both Irelia and her opponent would have to play carefully. Denied minion wouldn't refund cooldown or provide healing which would force Irelia to actually plan her engagements instead of going brrrr after 3 minions get low on hp.
But of course denying won't be added anytime soon, as it would require to adjust multiple weak early game champions and minion behavior, so she will remain frustrating to play against especially in mid lane.
I believe what's causing all of this is the fact that Riot kept adding new champions with more and more ludicrous mechanics, but the game ifself didn't evolve with it's rising roster. Summoner's Rift, with few exeptions like turret platings and elemental dragons, is played nearly the same way for the past 10 years and it remains almost unchanged. There are no alternate objectives, win conditions, neutral items or anything of the sort. Riot can announce 10 new champions coming out next week and it won't matter, because how the game is played won't change at all, it will all boil down to who can kill an enemy in the quickest, most efficent way.

What if akali loses some health when she uses the smoke bomb, but regenrates more health than she loses when shes in it. Hear me out, she needs to be more cautious when she uses it, because if she uses it in the middle of a teamfight and a chunk of her health misses she can get killed easier by a random ability. And she'll have to stay longer in it to regenerate her health, sl opposing champions can actually calculate how long it takes before her health is returned. She also gets the "guard down" staus effect, which means that any damage she takes while shrouded is amplified by 25%-15% (based on lvl) when shes in it.
Or she just loses a bunch of mr and armor when shes in it.

Well i don't agree. Her dmg is part of the problem her e deals a tone thst it got to the point when any target that is not bruiser or tank will get over 800dmg from E2 because it deals magic dmg which is far less reducable than attack dmg
She is also not fun to play early bc her q energy cost is so hugh that after using q you have nothing for a few seconds. She was designed to be that shroudy assasin that is mobile and kills from shadows with her kamas.
Imo they should either nerf her e scaling or revert it to ad dmg. Nerf her shroud duration and buff a bit her q scaling or base dmg. Nerfing her skill expression like removing middle dash q is not helping

The pro play champs are easiest to balance: just split proplay from regular play because pro play is not representative of solo queue in any way. Game time also tells you why pro play meta is so different and scaling champs have a chance to get picked. Give them a unique patch with specific balance and let them run wild, it would actually be more entertaining to watch. Overloaded champs are fixable when their kit is fixed. How to fix irelia? No more infinity dash resets without a q kill. How to fix akali? Bring back control wards revealing her in shroud. Its not as hard as people make it out to be.

3:50 ok tbf, losing physical damage isn't by any means a bad thing for someone who primarily builds ap, it means any magic pen she builds actually benefits those abilities
Mixed damage only really _helps_ a champion when they primarily do physical damage but have a couple things that do magic, because everyone naturally has less magic resist than armor, having the random physical damage on only the _first_ part of her ult for example, effectively means it does no real damage because she builds ap and magic penetration, since they changed her ult to have only magic damage and an actual ap scaling, it's straight up done more damage even if the base values are slightly lower

SoloQ players don't care about what their allies champion want to do. A good ryze is impossible to kill unless he messes up or is "outplayed" by a champ with at least 3 dashes, as he can outruns an Udyr going full movement speed. If your team don't understand the meaning of late scaling champ and they don't protect him in teamfights (as he alone can deal enough damage to completely wipe out the enemy team) he will be trash.

You've touched upon this in the video, but to agree with you I'd say a "balance nightmare" is due to design moreover than numbers. A really good design, as in a champion's kit or playstyle, is going to be good regardless of numerical or statistical changes. A poorly designed champion will remain bad for the same reasons.
If there is a frustrating design element in a champion's kit that is the source of all frustration and is the reason why that champion has to be totally nerfed and changed over and over again, I'd say for the health of the game that thing has to be changed or removed. Riot designed them, they can find a way to balance them. They don't want to because of this idea that a champion has an immovable, stone identity. They can find a way around it and keep the identity, they have entire teams of designers.
Obviously a frustrating design is not fun for players to deal with if they're strong and thus prefer to have that nerfed into non-playability. However on the flip side, it also isn't fun as a main of those champions to basically pilot a nerfed champion that requires you to play perfectly to make use of that champion's high potential and stay "weak" to make up for it, especially if just a few Pro Players can abuse it. So what, Azir and Ryze lovers have to remain weak and frustrated because a Pro Player might play them too much? That's not a fun state to be in either. I would gladly trade in some of that potential power, if it meant my champion could theoretically be played to a more normal state more consistently.

Azir in particular is frustrating becauce he has massive area control and DPS in late game. If they really wanted to balance him, they could nerf the AP scaling on the soldiers and increase base dmg on his Q so in early he'd play more like burst mage and wouldn't be useless, but his late game DPS would drop in return.
Yuumi is probably the most frustrating champion design IMO - Too safe for how effective she is. You could cut her numbers by half on everything and the issues would still stand. I think the fix there would be that she takes % of the dmg the person she's attached to takes. That would either force her to be attached to long range champs that avoid dmg altogether or would have to use her E on herself as well if she's attached to bruiser and give the champion actual skill expression. Also, the free poke in lane since her Q is really hard to miss... Give her better AP ratio on it but gut the base dmg...

    • @IDirtyMangoI
      @IDirtyMangoI 3 года назад +10

He is being called op because of the forced ADC meta. He is easily countered by running a control mage bot instead of a traditional ADC. The thing is most players wouldn't dare, and many of their teammates would dodge claiming it's troll. Ziggs just gets to shit on ADCs and Bot lane in general because of this. So he's considered OP. I think it's justified to say he is OP from a meta standpoint but, if meta is ignored, then he's in a pretty fair position.

    • @Dingdong2730
      @Dingdong2730 3 года назад +2

@@IDirtyMangoI No, Ziggs is not meta botlane because he is good against ADCs, try playing Ziggs mid into Lucian mid for example and you will see what I mean. Or play Ziggs bot into Yasuo or Samira after they get 1-2 items. Any champ that can build Wits End will also hard win against Ziggs 1v1 after they get said item.
Ziggs is pretty good into control mages I think, simply because of ranged advantage, same reason why Xerath is really good into champs like Orianna, Viktor, Anivia, but really struggles into champs with good target access like Zed, Fizz and LB.
Ziggs is good bot because of a few things:
      - Doesn't depend on own support to win lane, so he can play with scaling supports like Senna/Sona/Yuumi or roaming supports and it wont hurt your game.
      - Insane waveclear, makes you very difficult to dive, and you can clear waves from like an entire screen away so you dont even have to leave tower and you still dont fall too far behind in cs.
      - Most midlaners have roaming patterns and become strong sidelaners, Ziggs' only play mid is to punish roaming by taking tower and he cant push up in a sidelane. Botlaners are not supposed to roam and will be mid in the mid/lategame, perfect for Ziggs' team because they wont lose anything from having no midlaner to join early skirmishes.
      - Apart from Lucian, Tristana, Kaisa, (Yasuo, Akshan) and Samira, who all have to be paired with an engage/hook support, there are no rough matchups.
The reason Ziggs moved bot was mostly just assassin/skirmisher meta in mid, he has always been a good pick into other "neutral" mage champs, but his ultra neutral playstyle really just hurts your team way too much when you pick him in midlane into a champ like Sylas, Talon, Katarina etc. who might not be able to solo kill him in lane since you dont leave your tower on Ziggs, but loves skirmishes in river/jungle or roaming bot to gank/dive.

Otherwise a super quick beefy bruiser will do assassin's jobs better than assassins by oneshotting priority targets that he sees vulnerable from 2-3 screens away
And that's his identity, he doesn't have enough CC/peel to be an effective tank and is too fast for his own team to keep up meaning he either has absurd numbers to 1v9 carry with no counterplay or he will suffer from being too fast for his own team... At the end of the day hecarim is left in a state where its frustrating to play him since his numbers are too low to carry alone and he's too fast to be able to play in coordination with a team exploiting hec's own strength (speed)

One change to ryu was that if you cancel your upercut with a backdash it would use your 2 bars of meter, so the change was that if you canceled with a backdash it would do less damage than if you didnt, so if you dont cancel having the meter you would say to your oponent that you get them, maybe changes like this that makes the characters more expressive would be good for akali and irelia?

In Guild Wars 1, character skills had 2 different versions, PvE and PvP.
Maybe Riot should also do the same thing and make separate version of champion skills for pro-play and the rest of us mere mortals.

GW1 had thousands, so that's really no excuse.

the biggest frustration is vayne top if you play a melee champion with little or few cloose gaps
    - she will outscale you
    - she makes you unable to lasthit
    - she pokes you so you will maybe lose even XP
    - she has better teamfight presence (especially with tanks/enchanter in her team)
    - your jungler has to literally camp her (but sometimes is unable to because he doesnt know better OR the vayne has insanely good map awareness)
    - she can out duel you in a side lane easily with R invis, bonus AD, knockback/stun, % true damage, mobility
yes you can say vayne maybe needs skill, but once u have the skill it is "Frustrating" because it has no counterplay if you are good at her.
And when a champion is unbeatable once played perfectly (like scripting levels) the champion is broken period.
i dont care how skillful a champion is, it needs a weakness, and in top lane i can tell you, no ranged champion (cuz she has better all in and range herself) no ap burst champion (she will buy mercs + wits end) no juggernaut (literally no chance as to outrange knockback and % damage) and no melee carry can keep up with her.

Sometimes I think destroying the identity of a champion is a good thing. I remember you talking in an earlier video about how new champions’ kits have a ridiculous amount of things included in them and no matter how much they are nerfed, the fact it exists at all means it makes the champ more viable. Why does irelia heal from her dashes? Is there any lore related reason? (Not that every kit has to make logical sense) but it feels like such a needless addition that negates the durability pitfall champions that produce the same amount of dps fall into. She wouldn’t be irelia without the same survivability, but I don’t think that survivability is healthy

the real issue with akali is
well people say "her W is so one sided she goes for a trade and not even your minions will get to hit her back cause of it"
which is particularly funny to me since she doesn't win lane against a single traditional midlaner
or "she has toooo many dashes" but they were dead anyways and wouldn't have done anything even if she was standing still for the entirety of the fight
    no
her problem is that her E deals more damage than the rest of her entire kit
and then compare her to ahri
ahri needs to full combo you twice and use her R the 2nd time she combos you to land 2nd part of Q, which is an incredibly hard skill shot since you and the most of her damage and even then you might need ignite to get the kill secured, and if you had to use R to go in for the E and 2nd/3rd R to land your Q you are now just a very vulnerable immobile mage
also, akali has a ton of ad ratios and incredible scalings when they don't really make sense for her 70 / 131.25 / 192.5 / 253.75 / 315 (+ 59.5% AD) (+ 84% AP) since assassins are not meant to scale but rather to end the game quickly, so she inherently struggles at doing what she's designed for through her kit but then also does that through her class because she is meant to be super weak early while also being an assassin, the snowballing class, so she's either not balanced cause her laning phase is all of a sudden strong and she is just too good or not balanced cause she is too weak to get back into the game after loosing lane
I think lee sin is just that much more balanced because even when he gets nerfed he's still honest to his class and he has a predictable and consistent gameplay, on top of that, even when he's nerfed so that he scales more poorly he still brings utility to his team in the form of peel and shielding

Irelia would be so easy to fix. She can stack her ability, but she can't sustain it without interacting with a champion, once it's maxed. Also there should be a hard cap on its duration once full stack is reached, regardless of whether she sustains it through champion combat or not. Right now she can stack and maintain with minions and just dash all the way to enemy turret. If she pushes and reaches level 2 first and you are not able to freeze, you end up with having to push the wave back to her. And when you are almost at her turret it's basically a death sentence if you are a early game tank or bruiser.

We all talk about the fact that pro play is a different game all the time but they play the same patches we do. If balancing azir for pro play makes it a bad champion for everyone else make them have their own patches. It would definitely make pro play more interesting imo considering I don't watch it anymore now yet I still have to deal with patches being around the pro level of play.

I believe the direction to take Irelia is fairly simple. Fundamentally, my idea is, adjusting her power away from Q and into the rest of her kit.
Incentivizing Irelia not to max Q first means its more difficult for her to get resets as the threshold to execute minions gets lower. Remove the heal from her Q entirely means that, at least until she gets lifesteal, there is no incentive to spam Q just because it heals a lot. Last but certainly not least, Irelia can effortlessly get her Q's cooldown down to 5 seconds. Possibly lower. That said, its hardly punishing for Irelia to miss a reset because she gets it back up in just a few seconds. That said, increasing the base cooldown will give Irelia's opponents a realistic window to punish her for missing a reset or when they sucessfully cancel it mid air (think of Thresh's Flay, Quinn's Vault or Gragas' Body Slam).
As such, I suggest the following changes:
    **Passive:**
Ionian Fervor stacks last for 6 seconds, but instead of losing them all at once, the stacks decay one per second.
    **Q:**
Cooldown increased from 11~7 seconds to 11 seconds at all ranks.
REMOVED: Blade Surge no longer heals Irelia.
    **W:**
Damage reduction now scales with ability level rather than champion level. In practice this is a buff when maxing the ability first, a nerf if maxing the ability last and about neutral if maxing it second.
    **E:**
Damage changed from 80/125/170/215/260 to 80/140/200/260/320.
Stun duration changed from 0.75 seconds at all ranks to 0.5~1.5 seconds.
    **R:**
REMOVED: No longer reduces the cooldown of Bladesurge

what if you change ionian fervor stacks to last 5s

There are very few basic abilities with their base damage/rank increase being bigger than 55 damage/rank which is Alistar W scaling for example. That is why the proposed change on her E scaling seems like a bit too much. (45/rank right now-> 60/rank proposed change). I think i would actually leave this ability as it is.
I really like the W change. It seems perfect to me.
On her Q i dont like the change from 11-7 sec to 11 at all ranks if you are also going to remove her R passive. That would make Irelia's late game Q go from 4,5 sec to 11 sec cd without ability haste which is a bit ridiculous of a nerf. I would much rather see the removal of her R passive which kinda forces you to max Q right now as the R passive + Q max have a significant synergy. When it comes to healing i think it is fine but only whenever she gets a Q reset (from her passive Mark or last-hit). I think the healing we so much hate on Irelia comes from Lifesteal from items + her already big auto attacks empowered by her passive (80% Attack speed) rather than her Q which provides the biggest healing when Irelia last-hits a minion wave as opposed to a teamfight or an all in.
I like the passive change you proposed but personally a thing about it right now that annoys me every time i fight Irelia is that it deals magic damage... If you start losing to Irelia and want to buy resistances she deals mixed damage anyway so you cant stop her with Armor boots. It is not like she needs to max W as oposed to another ability or invest an item to deal magic damage - she builds full AD and attack speed and still deals tons of magic damage which makes her snowball very hard if she ever gets a lead.

    • @shacolin6546
      @shacolin6546 3 года назад

@@maciejkleszczynski9808 But that's exactly the point. Reduce the incentive to max Q (which means it deals less damage for longer, which means its harder to get resets) and increase the risk for the Irelia player who use Q without getting a reset and the reward for the Irelia opponent who manage to cancel the dash mid air and put it on a cooldown. As long as the Irelia keeps reseting, that change doesn't matter, but nowdays Irelia missing a reset mid game is more of an inconvenience than an actual problem. The idea is exactly to give a bigger window to punish the Irelia player while she don't have her important cooldown.
The E change is admitedly aggressive, but that's done on purpose because the change on her Q too is aggressive. Taking power away from one part of her kit to the other. And because her E is a skillshot, the opponent can dodge it.

And every CHAMPION takedowns or assists she gets an extra two dashes and/or 4 minions killed with the dash gives her one extra dash. The way I see it is it gives other players counerplay to her while also keeping her skill expressive. The for her ult, keep it the same, but make the initial projectile smaller. The first enemy struck with the projectile is stunned and the outside shape it makes slows still.

I honestly think win rate is a fundamentally flawed way to quantify a champion power, a lot of people and even channels like pro guides and mobalytics use win rate to say that some champions are struggling or that they are weak, but what a low win rate actually means is that PLAYERS are struggling to win playing the champ, the best example for this are new champs, that on release should always have a low win rate since players are testing what the champ can do and what builds/play style are the best, of course champs that don’t fit how most people want to play are not getting high win rates.
Champions like Ryze, Gankplank and Kayle that need to farm and scale before been strong are always going to do poorly because most players like fighting and can’t wait to get their items, so they fight anyways and then they are 0/5 at 10 minutes calling jg diff.
Another thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that makes win rate a flawed way to estimate power is that no one will exploit all the strengths of a champ on their first games, but almost every one will at least try every champ between 2 to 5 times before deciding to main the champ or drop it forever, if everyone plays Akali 5 times for the first time, wins 2 games, loses 3 and then never play it again, the champ would technically had a 40% win rate, but that is not because the champ is bad, is because there is no way you can master a champ in 5 games.
In conclusion, win rate means nothing, nerf Yone.

For Irelia it's ridiculous that she can stand still while charging an ability that deals damage and reduces incomming damage and renews the mark for her Q. I think that is the main problem with her, because you can have a tankish who has high damage(Darius), a diver who can do a lot of damage(Lee/Xin), or even a bruiser with great speed, damage, tankiness and powerful in team fights(Hecarim). The thing is that you can kite Darius, you can dodge Lee Sin Q, you can burst down Xin Zhao, and you don't feel like Hecarim touches you and you die. He's not famous for being like a monster in 1x1/pickoffs and similar. You can't do nothing against a Irelia who knows exactly how to play. Even Riven and Akali who are monstruous when mastered you can burst down, but Irelia press a button and you waste all your combo for 30% of her health(and she lifesteal in 3 Q's in the minions). If they take down the tankiness from her W(i think) it would be A LOT less toxic, and wouldn't feel so unfair as it is now, AND the Irelia players never think of her as the "suddenly tank champion that can bait the enemy to cast all their burst for nothing". What i mean is... Even when you land a Morgana Q, you can't kill her and you can't even do real damage to her unless you have 3 men beating her shit down and she still can take down the squish one.

    • @xxx6882

That is not the only problem. If you make a scaling champ, it must be weak at some other stage of the game, but she is one of the most broken early games, mid game and late game. That's the real problem, just like fiora, camille and riven. Why would I play Garen if you have a stronger early, mid and late game than I do? Why would I play an "unkillable" tank if you gonna deal 600 true damage at me lvl 6 with just a single skill, or you have so much mixed damage I cant build as items as fast as you increase damage? And if I try to play an artillery mage to drain you, and you outheals my damage with minions... what's the point? The only counterplay is burst you, as you said. And slayers are the best to do that thing. That is the reason that this meta is all about bruisers and slayers

"I can't legitimately think of a way to make it so champions like Irelia and Akali can exist without having those abilities. They wouldn't be Irelia and Akali anymore."
They're ALREADY not Irelia and Akali anymore. Irelia has a W that does true damage, an E that stuns anyone higher HP than her, and an ult that shoots 4 daggers out hit all enemies in a line. Akali has an ult with 3 targeted dashes. The current champions going by these names are nothing but zoomer imposters. The worst case is Fiora. The abomination we have now is NOT Fiora. Fiora has an ult called Blade Waltz, the coolest ult in the entire game, which causes her to blink rapidly between all enemies within a certain radius, dealing several hits randomly to enemy champions within range. Without this ability, she is NOT Fiora. Give up the ghost, bro. They've already done this to dozens of champions. They took away Irelia's ult and gave it to Gwen. They claimed Poppy's ult was WAY too strong to be in the game, but then they just made it EVEN STRONGER and gave it Mordekaiser. They've been ruining champions forever. I genuinely hope they ruin Akali and Irelia, because the new versions of those champions are complete cancer, along with Pyke and a few others I can't remember at the moment.
