It was one of the funniest bits that had ever seen Robin to and has done, oh so many great ones! Robin is the greatest comedian of all time!
I remember watching this live, the Oscar telecast in 2000. It was surreal; Trey Parker and Matt Stone from South Park showed up in drag, wearing outfits identical to Jennifer Lopez and Gwenyth Paltrow (and as they revealed years later, were both tripping on acid). Robin Williams' performance stole the show. People loved it that night and talked about it the next day- not who won what. Now, 23 years later, Cancel Culture would probably raise hell about the drag outfits, the song's words and even Robin himself.
I hope he is resting easy knowing his legacy lives on with pride and love, and his memory is as bright as it was when he was alive. And it will NEVER dim. 🕊️
The old theater out here in Coos Bay Oregon just played the South Park movie out here last night. I had only seen the movie once and that was well over a decade ago. I think I only started watching South Park maybe a decade ago, but I believe I've watched 90% of the episodes. And I love the fact that they got Robin Williams to perform this song, I also love the fact that Phil Collins won the award🙃🤣🙃

I just feel hurt for hearing Robin Williams singing that song. I live in Canada and he was one of my favourite comedians. I even sang Friend Like Me on karaoke in his honour.

As members of the T&P audience are shown storming out of the theater, so too members of the IRL audience were leaving in a huff with kids in tow. I never laughed so hard! South Park is genius. Thank you Trey and Matt. Wonderful to see so many years later that Robin was also a fan. Good job Mr. Williams!

God, I miss this man. I'll never forget the day he died. I was flying home from New Orleans and had a layover in Baltimore. The news was announced while we were in the air, and there was no in-flight WiFi. When we got on the ground and people turned their phones back on, you could hear quiet little gasps from all over the plane as the updates trickled in. I swear, BWA had a weird... vibe. I was only there for 90 minutes, but it seemed so quiet, and people were just kind of gathered around TVs showing CNN. Collective "shock" is probably far too strong a term in a technical, psychological sense, but it's also the closest I can get to what I saw. Just sort of universal, low-key grief.
The best part? Trey and Matt were in the crowd tripping on acid. Imagine tripping your balls off, and watching a comedic legend sing YOUR song.
