It's The Rat Pack with a very special VIP "plus one" in this sly Runyonesque musical revision of the Robin Hood legend, done up Chicago gangland style. Frank Sinatra stars as Robbo, caught up in a gang war with rival mobster Guy Gisborne (Peter Falk) after mob chieftain Big Jim (Edward G. Robinson, in an uncredited cameo) get the big rub-out. With allies Will (Sammy Davis, Jr,) and John (Dean Martin) at his side, Robbo gets suborned by Big Jim's daughter Marian (Barbara Rush) to ice the man that iced her dad to the tune of 50 Gs.
Directed By Gordon Douglas
Starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.

Sammy Davis Jr's testimony is the funniest, imo. His alcoholism problem actually forced him to stop his pickpocketing.

One of my favorite movies! Peter Falk did hell of a job as Guy!
lostmagiknyram ... That was Dean's typical body language. Whenever he couldn't hold it together his left hand would go to his nose, cover his month,he would lose it. 0:27 Dean sitting on Frank's knee. ♡
Stephanie Santos Actually, if you watch closely, Dean and Frank are really having fun together in this clip. At 2.43 Dean is really grinning at Sammy's 'testimony', then @ 3.46 he does his 'staring in fascination' bit when Bing finishes his speech, until Frank bashes him on the shoulder (Rat Pack fans may remember that they often did this when they appeared together onstage) And again @ 4.07 Frank has a hard time trying not to laugh at Deans obvious add-libbing! I get the distinct impression that this was far from the first 'take' of this scene, and Dean just wanted to get out of there and onto the nearest golf course!!🏌⛳️
This was the bread an dbutter of their act, aside from their voices like velvet. You could feel their fun and chemistry. But if you know the development hell this film went through, you'll know they were desperate to feel good while filming

It's great because it could be just a genuine little mistake they didn't bother to remove in any way or a subtle nod to the fact that this whole song and dance was just an act to hide their crimes.
Okay, I'll admit it was "Family Guy" that introduced me to this fabulous song. And what's wrong with that? The wonderful music is one of the things that made the show so endearing-at least for the first few seasons. If "Family Guy" could take a bunch of obscure but wonderful songs, like this one, and reintroduce them to a new audience, thus sparking an interest in seeing the original source material, then I say that "Family Guy" must have been doing something right!
Style matches well with The Rat Pack's music. I recommend it
Well, the music is endearing. Everything else not so much.
I don't know that just taking someone else's great work that has fallen into obscurity, sticking into your miserable cartoon where most people will just assume you created the whole thing...is really doing something right.
You've got a point, sadly!
Perhaps. I just happen to know the source material for a number of the songs used in the show and because I realize that not all the songs are originally written for the show it makes me curious about the ones that aren't, such as this one. I personally cannot fault Walter Murphy for his arrangements and musical selections because he already won me over years ago back in the ancient disco '70's with "A Fifth Of Beethoven", a discofied version of the first movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony that became a huge disco hit!
Whenever I hear this song, I always end up singing along………… for medicinal purposes only
This movie is always put smile on the face............ for medicinal purposes only.
Fun Fact:
Bing was an Olympic-level pot smoker when he was young.
Bing hung out with Jazz musicians then, and the thing they like next to music is, well you know.
He was smoking so much weed, that his buddy Louis Armstrong told him that he needed to dial it back a bit. When a Jazz musician thinks you're smokin' too much pot, you is really smokin' too much pot. That's like Willie or Snoop telling you that you're smoking too much.
Everytime I take a sip of my beer or liquor, this song just punishes me by being stuck in my head.
And that’s why I only drink sodas

Dad had her when he was 20, she was 5 and he died at 25, and then 12 years later. math can add up. like it's the 60s? 50s? whenever the film is supposed to happen.
It kind of adds up if she was 5 if her father died at 25 years of age which wasn’t uncommon for men and women to marry and have children at a young age. This was set in the 20s so prohibition was in full swing at this point which is why alcohol is seen as a a great evil here

Funny that Sinatra produced that picture but in this scene he stood back and let the spotlight shine on his co-stars !!! When Dean momentarily remains silent before testifying at 3:48 is part of a running joke in the movie. Some of the members of the gang insist that Bing's character eloquently delivering his elaborate lines is due to the fact that he has something in his throat, but it is simply because they don't understand a word of what he is saying.
