I'm a strat guy. I love getting a strat and popping in a Hot Rail in the bridge, or humbucker of my choice if it's routed. But I do love a good Gibson. I ignore the controversies over Gibson. Like any other company their build quality has gone up and down. It sounds like lately they've made corrections on the quality issue. My own experience with Gibson is mixed, but that's just me. I still want an SG someday. It's one of the coolest guitars of all time.

    Hey Robert,
I've went off the deep end here since 2019 and purchased 5 Gibbies here LOL! Two were husks I purchased via Stratosphere, an SG Special which is a hair beneath 6 pounds and it plays simply stellar. The other's a Standard which I equipped with a full Bigsby and my third SG is actually a 2017 Standard which was a Sam Ash run they had, they're white with the smaller pick guard, very nice axes.
I also purchased me a brand new Les Paul Standard via Sweetwater when I retired 2 years ago as a gift to myself for not committing murder at the work place after 34 years ahah! Last but not least one more LP Special with the 50's style chunky neck, that one is a 2021.
I can honestly say each and every one of these guitars play out of this world, very low action, beautiful sound yada, yada, yada... All I can say is either I got real lucky 5 times in a row here or they have indeed upped their game.
I likfe Fender style guitars too and I have a handful of Warmoth creations here and they're all nice but I just love the Gibson's 🤟
If anyone reading this is on the fence about one, I'd certainly recommend pulling the trigger. Before they get sold off again and go back to their older ways LOL! ( Hopefully Not! ).

Thanks Robert.. Last month I purchased a Gibson Les Paul TV Special the price normally is $1799..however this one was labeled New with a minor blemish..thru Zzounds one sale at $1325..I grabbed it without even thinking about it..upon receiving it I couldn’t find the blemish..what I did find was what appeared to be some slight paint build up on the neck heal..where it joins the body, I think ..I called up Zzounds and told them how pleased I was and that I actually couldn’t find the minor blemish. They said that’s not unusual.. this is my 10th/12th Gibson and I’ve been playing since 67’..I know poor quality as I’ve owned two Norlin Era Lester’s..Today’s Gibsons are well built and get the job done!! Thanks Robert

Good video, Robert. The fact is that someone probably most people, will come back and lie about testing out their favorite guitars, but you can’t stop that can you. As you know, I have several Gibson guitars, maybe not as many as you lol, and I love everyone of them. My favorite one is one where they messed up the finish and did not put Heritage Cherry on the Heritage Cherry Guitar, which means it is just the basecoat yellow. I love it and I play it all the time. One of the guitars that you were involved with at Guitar Center was my flying V2 70s model with the wrong pick ups. They had the 70s pick ups in it instead of the ones that were made for Guitar Center exclusive. I wanted a mirrored pet guard and the 70s pick ups so it worked out for the best for me. Sometimes those are happy accidents.
I have had Gibson guitars since 1980 and I have not had a single headstock break, knock on wood. That said, you hear about all these people who say they had their headstock broken. I can’t confirm, nor deny their claims, and I can see it with pros, who have their guitars handled by themselves, and other people who may not be careful , but if you’re keeping it on a decent stand and not getting drunk or high and handling a guitar, you find deer, you probably won’t drop it. I’m using Siri so she may not be typing everything properly. Anyway, I will take you up on that and go to Guitar Center tomorrow and check out some guitars and report back as to what I find. Most of the time I find the Guitar Center is not exactly careful about hanging them, and you get hangar rash under the headstock.

First time Gibson owner as of 1 and a half months ago.
    My Dad passed away.
Something about life being short, and a bit of wanting to distract myself.
Anyhow, this guitar is all I ever wanted it to be.
    A 2019 Standard 50's, tobacco burst.
The pups didnt do it for me, but that isnt really any fault against them, I am particular with the sounds I'm seeking.
I love that it's an 800 lb. Shoulder breaker.
    All there.
    Ready for armageddon.
I put in a Seymour Duncan BLACK WINTER and a DiMarzio GRAVITY STORM.
It is my realization after half a life time of fantasy concerning such a creation.
Glad I got a good one.

Even with their flaws, Gibson is my go-to guitar company. It's one of those things that's hard to explain.
I special ordered a Les Paul Custom, Tobacco Burst with a "plus" top around 96. Paid $2300 for it. I still have it.
My most recent Gibson purchase was a "figured" ES335. As with all my new guitars, it went straight to my guitar tech. Many of them I don't even bother to play first. And yes, I purchased it from Sweetwater. My tech was actually impressed with the build quality of the 335. He's also a Gibson "guy". He builds high end acoustics and has just stared a line of electrics.
I appreciate all the great information, Robert.
    Thank you!

I currently own two Gibsons; a 2020 Standard 50's Gold Top and a 2002 Standard Plus. Both are very well crafted guitars, but I'm selling the '02 because I'd have to gut it before it was up to par with the Gold Top. The pickups, electronics and the bridge piece all pale in comparison to what Gibson is putting in their Standards now.
As for the complaints about pricing, any inflation comparison website will show that a modern run-of-the-mill Gibson doesn't differ much in price to what they sold for back in the 50s. The sad fact is the average living wage does not scale to match inflation. They're not getting too expensive, the majority of us are getting shortchanged by that wage to inflation gap and that gap gets wider every year. Anyone who says guitars are overpriced should look at their grocery receipts and paychecks sometime and compare those to what they were 10-20 years ago.

I've crapped on Gibson for my 32+years of playing. Never understood them after trying 50+ in my life. After almost a year of research, I ordered a USA Greeny from Reverb last October 2023. It's darn near immaculate. Plays, sounds, and looks stunning. I've been eating crow ever since. Props to Gibson for really turning it around.

I bought a 2021 Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's model and a 2022 Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's model in the last few years. I'm a Gibson guy as well and agree they went through some rough times. However, these two Les Pauls are my go to gigging guitars since buying them. I own 4 other Gibson Les Pauls and 4 other Gibson Flying V's and these new Les Pauls are just the best guitars I've ever played, right off the shelf (50's) and right out of the box (60's). I didn't have to do a setup (as I usually do) on either.

To me, a new owner of a Les Paul jr, my thoughts after watching how Gibson operates their factory is; How can there not be minor flaws in that many guitars with that many human hands involved with the production? My Junior, has as far as I can see, so far a tiny little dent in the fretboard's first fret area around the bottom side, ( like a fine point pen tip). Nothing that stops me from playing or is noticeable unless you are fine tooth combing it. My first day with it I put more flaws in the guitar's finish than that plus 100. I baby my stuff, but handling a less than 2 month old Nitro finish is at another level of babying. The guitar is awesome, and set up great from the factory, ( being a lefty with backordered models, this was the first place I found a new one after looking for months). To me, the Junior is still priced in the big 2 American made reasonable price range and with inflation going crazy, the price has only gone up $100 since the new Juniors were produced. Lets face it, Asian products are going to out perform American made products in price and QC most times. There is a different culture and expectation of the low paid, ( yes I said it) factory worker in China and other countries making guitars. Can anybody say that a Gibson made 50 years ago or more didn't have some build issues? Can we assume that only the "keepers" are being traded and sold these days? When I saw the production number of my guitar, and watched the factory videos, I am kind of shocked at how many guitars they pump out. They actually sell that many a year? I do not plan to go down the Gibson rabbit hole of guitars, but I love my Junior so far as a P90 companion to my Telecasters. I love it's tone. Pure rock that I was looking for to fill a missing piece without the complication and weight of a Les Paul with Humbuckers, (My Junior weighs 7.1 oz).
My hope for Americana and home made products, is that Gibson stays true to their roots in at least half their models, and the cork sniffers who want to impress their friends can grab their cocktail hour conversation piece with an appropriately priced model.

I have never wanted a Gibson. Been playing for almost 30 years.

They did and a ton of the music I connect with was created using Gibsons but I find you can get those tones in lots of places at better prices.

Agree. You can’t expect an increase in quality when you pay your lawyers more than your luthiers.

Both my Gibsons are way better than any of my Fenders, my prs and any of my others. So you are wrong in saying not one good guitar. Never had a bad one. What they do on a corporate level in order to protect their brand and their original designs is none of my business (or yours). But, at the moment, there are hundreds of cheaper brands making a killing out of their intellectual property and threatening their downfall, so I'll reserve my judgement and not shout about it capital letters

Defend a company that moved operations to Nashville to minimize labor costs and take advantage of cheap southern blacks...then took all reasoning off the table and RAISED prices when they were failing and after all that screws their customers out of quality and takes the piss out of the frets before EVERY guitar leaves the factory and after all this they top it off with manipulative internet tactics...like YOU are probably a Gibson employee masquerading as a you tube commenter...(trust me...go tot the Gibson forum and make ANY comment about the quality...ISTA BAN>>>they are NOT a good company unless you count good at propaganda and lies and litigation (making money off their intellectual property...they CLAIM EVERYTHING>>>SINGLE CUTS were at the heart of their bullshit...THANK GOD they FINALLY PUT A STOP TO THAT>>>and their headstock is shit...I dont know WHY ANYONE has a cow over that.)..SHIT FOR QULAITY>>AND THAT DESERVES ALL CAPS YOU MORON!!!!!@@user-vv7lp9nn6y
