My thoughts on today's Google Pixel 8a announcement, and even though I've been displeased with Google the last month or so, I do think the price point is right and the spec sheet is exactly what it should be. So I have to be fair, if you're a Google Pixel fan, this is probably the one you're going to want if you want to save a few bucks but still get a pretty decent Pixel experience.

I like that Google seems to at least be making an effort...and pick yourself up a $100 Best Buy card in the process! howl.me/cmcBCRkvmx0 (Affiliate Link)
The 8a reminds me of my first Pixel phone, the 4a5G. Rounded design, matte plastic back, similar overall size, etc. It doesn't look too bad at all, though you will probably find it deeply discounted in the not so distant future 😅
Honestly love my 6a. I still think the a series is Google's best value for money, same processor and constantly winning best camera awards. I'll give some advice to first time pixel buyers though, you might have to tough it out for the first month lol. When the 6a released it took about a month for Google to iron out the odd quirks but they constantly update the devices and now it works flawlessly.
Will it be able to connect to a satellite after the Android 15 update?
I appreciate the insight, im leaning into it. Im not a hardcore user so i feel i will enjoy it very well. My main thing i wanna improve is the charging speeds.
Sounds cautiously optimistic...here's hoping the best parts pan out 🤞
My 6A is still alive and kicking. I cant see myself spending money for the 8A...anytime soon.
All i know is that blue visor will look really good with a black or white case around it
I buy phones based on how they look these days
One creator said you should wait for the Pixel 8 go on sale again that the Pixel 8a isn't worth buying.
And I get it. Less than $50 difference, I can see it. But Google did this last year. I doubt you see that price again while the 8a is at full price and while I am sure the 8 will go to 549 again if you wait, the 8a will then be down to 400 etc. I'm not willing to pay more than 50 dollars extra for an 8.
People like this ignore sales for the 8a and are just being contrarion for clicks.
They are looking good and that software support really sounds good. I’ve only had my 6a for about 6 months now so i won’t be buying a new phone for a little while but it has definitely won me over. I want to see Google do good with this line. If they could just quit making boneheaded PR moves.
Trade in is disappointing. They offered much more for my 6a at pixel 8 launch. Also, why did they dumb down the chip?
Dumb down the chip?
@@StevealiciousTech yes. They throttled it.
Because all of their phones are trash they all overheat. Instead of making thermals better for heat dissipation they throttled the chip. This is where OnePlus absolutely is King none of their phones overheat.
Still rather get an a55 or Phone 2a
A55 is a great choice. I like that we might have a battle at least.
If they're give you 7 years of updates now, they need to start the storage at 256gb. Imo forget 128gb if you're keeping the phone for 5 years plus. But it will take time for people to trust that androids can last as long an iphones.
Is the pixel 9 going to have in house processor?
My 6a seems to be getting more hot phone alerts lately. Exyon. 😢
I've had my current android phone for four years and it's 128 mb. 🤷♂️
I see no reason to get an 8A when you can get a pixel 8 for $50 more when they're on sale 4 to 6 times a year. Plus Pixel devices do not hold value very long and you can get second hand like new Pixel 8's for around the $400 mark.
If you can get it. Last year google pumped the price back up and held it after the A series came out. Not everyone wants second hand. Depends what you are comfortable with but I expect the 8 to be around $600.
Thats how blind Google pricing works 8A pricing will go down to dumpster fire like their privious ones buying pixel device at launch time is the worst decision anyone can make just wait and see the price @@StevealiciousTech
@@StevealiciousTech Yeah I would assume they'll be a little more defensive with the sales now that the a is releasing. If they drop the 8 price too often it would defeat the purpose of the 8a.
@@fantasytky28 dumb comment. You think I don’t have ten links also for the Pixel 8 for people to use? Never the focus of the video. I can put a link for anything. But off you go.
Do you think sales for the 8a don't exist?
👍💯💯
The device is significantly thicker, at 8.9 mm it is higher than the S24 Ultra at 8.6 mm. The screen to body ratio at 81.6%. Why, Google?
It looks like they fixed the screen (aslo hope that includes the responses off touch and the fingerprint scanner), now put the power button in the right place, I don't know about the overheating(heard nothing different about that), charging is still as slow as the last two a-series, features not available outside the US, battery usage better optimized and a camera that performs realy well without their "IA"/ photo enhancement, just as it is, not a complete different photo, a view touches is enough. That's what I want from a pixel. The updates are nice, but it feels like a compromize for that lacking....
The phone looks very good and without all the hype and promises, I would probably like it, but for now..., no. Nice video, thanks!👍
Thanks for the video , but why not just wait for the Pixel 8 to go on sale again for $549.
Right but that's what Google did last year. Raised the 7 back up then cut them together. So when the 8 goes on sale again for $549, the 8a will be 450 or less. The point is I'm not willing to pay more than $50 extra for the 8.
To me getting this phone just for the software support is not worth it. 18 watt charging at $499? Samsung is no better but at least you get better speeds around this price range. I also doubt this thing will last the full 7 years.
This will be good when the Pixel 9 comes out and the price of this goes down to $300
I agree with you 1,000% Steve it's a very fair price it just doesn't make sense.
It will once outlets run out of Pixel 8s at lower prices. Amazon and Google are back to $699.
How could you recommend the 8a over the 8? Steve... why not just wait for the 9. It's right around the corner.
It's not "over" the Pixel 8. They are selling the 8 for $699 right now and I expect them to do what they did last year and keep that price high. Those sales or deals will end. For 499, I choose this over the 8.
Get your hustle on. I'll wait for what the 9 will offer. I fell for the 6a. It won't happen again. 8 is $599 at T-mobile.
Fell for the 6a? The 6a was excellent for the money. If you are looking to spend 600-700 then sure, the 9 should be good. But not everyone is willing to do that.
@@StevealiciousTech battery life & 60hz was a serious issue for me personally, on the 6a. I ended up getting the 7pro.
There's always another phone around the corner.
I don't know man, Google is not consistent enough to invest in any of there products. Look at material U... Can't get app developers onboard so you end up with a modge podge of icons. They promise features for the pixel fold in 2023... io 2024 is next week and still don't have the features. Try to stiff the pixel 8 owners, then had to walk that back, where OS running a long side fit bit 🤔 haven't released refreshed pixel buds A or Pro in 2 years, I Can't even talk about the pixel tablet, and lets not forget, Google is known for just walking away from projects all together software and hardware and services. I expect more from Google as a company. I do like the pixel 8A but won't buy a pixel because of the reasons listed above.
Swap me that 7a for My oneplus 11? Lol
You really not happy with your OnePlus 11? I'm eyeing the 12 as an upgrade from my 6a
@@ahslan7304 I like it, but Im honestly a Google guy. Pixel has my heart.
But the 8 is a better phone at $549.
$699 currently in their store. It is if you can get it but they will be keeping the 8 price high like last year.
@@StevealiciousTech I know MKBHD isn't God, but he's just said they cost $549. Obviously from different outlets.
Yeah a couple of weeks ago maybe but amazon and Google right now are back to $699.
Honestly, the 8a is going to be exactly like the other tensor based phones since the Pixel 6. It’ll overheat, get lousy battery, and won’t have good connectivity. Google hasn’t changed anything and I would pass on the 8a and wait for the Pixel 10 lineup at the earliest since TSMC will begin doing the manufacturing of the tensor chips. I’d rather get a Samsung or Motorola on the Android side of things than a Pixel because they’re much more stable. Google is a software company who forgot how to software. Same problems with updates causing more problems than they fix.
Haven't had any of those issues with any pixel phone. My Samsung regularly overheats though.
It does not make a difference who produces the chip. Samsung and TSMC chip fabs are pretty similar. Googles Chip design just sucks. That has nothing to do with Samsung
