Badfinger are simply, one of the best bands of all time! I have every album. Great songwriting, great musicianship, great singers. What more could you ask for? Love them! :)
Have to comment. Badfinger live without post production. I love it, but I can't not be devastated by the band. Even 40+ years on. Nobody leaves alive, but that band, that music, those musicians--I wish it hadn't hurt so awfully to have been Badfinger.
This folkloric simplicity with professional performance reminds me on those good old medieval poems, songs, lyrics, it's just amazing! Makes me feel pure and innonncent.
This song was the B side of the single "Day After Day" (1972). I prefer this live version without accordion in the end. Thanks for this rare live document.
The song is a very good taste of what Joey brought to Badfinger. There's often a lot of talk about Pete and Tom, and understandably so, but pieces like this show how valuable Joey was in the visions of greatness that came out of this band. A beautifully crafted song.
An amazing and rich song! Just heard it for the first time. I hear echoes of Blind Faith, J Tull, Led Zeppelin, even Lennon, etc.. These guys had serious talent. I hope more people will discover this gem. Brilliant lyric: "love is the answer you gave me"!
I love this song, Truly is a wonderful song that Joey wrote. Not to make light of the songwriting but when I heard the melody that Pete put in, it made me cry. I wish they kept the camera on him for his solo because at the end watching his fingers spread across the frets amazed me. I don't know what kind of guitar Pete was playing but I love how it sounds sweet and soulful. Miss you Pete
I always liked Badfinger, always loved this album, and always loved this song. This is the first time I see them play it live and their singing and playing is flawless. This brings a lot of memories.
This one made my ears perk up. I thought Badfinger was just okay for a pop band. I will rethink my opinion now. This song, done live, acoustically, is quite divine. Sweet, indeed.
Those of us who came of age with The Beatles loved this band when we first heard their songs on the radio, and then were shocked when we saw their album cover. Joey Molland was a dead-ringer for Paul McCartney and Pete Ham bore a passing resemblance to John Lennon. They even positioned themselves onstage like John and Paul.
A wonderfull song from Straight Up album ( 1972 ) ! Here in Brazil was B Side of Day after Day single ! I miss that good times ! Thank you ! Muniz ( bass )
I've become a Badfinger fan, in the last 7 years. You will never find a bad comment about Badfinger. I can't say enough about Badfinger. Their music is far better, than so many artists. F - Todd Rundgren, F - Capitol Records, F- so many that don't appreciate them.
Vintage beauty, thanks so much. My admiration for them keeps growing stronger, 30 years after I first started listening to them. Gotta add though, one thing I liked best about Sweet Tuesday Morning, on the LP, is that the awesome Day After Day was coming next!
@greatsajby Thanks for the tip. I have the Straight Up album on vinyl but have not listened to it in years. I agree "Sometimes" is a great tune. The Badfinger things I have seen on youtube have been quite awesome. Their talent is deep, a very, very talented group.
One of the great bands to come out of this era.. suxh huge talent.. such short time... they had such a great influence on me.. I've been playing since I saw them soooo long ago.... God speed all of them.
This is also one of my favourite songs. My brother bought the single "Day after Day" in Australia in the very early 70s, and I always perferred the 'B' side which was, of course, "Sweet Tuesday Morning"
Saw them perform this in '73 at the old wrestling auditorium in Atlanta,GA. Aband named White Witch played first.Badfinger performed most of Straight Up that night-truely magical!
+1stSaintsFan Well, unlike The Beatles, they were never particularly innovative or groundbreaking, but, unlike a lot of other groups, they always knew how to write damn good songs.
Odd that I never heard songs like this from them..The radio always played the faster songs..I had no idea they were so good..I missed out on the band..grrrr
I believe this song to be Badfinger's 'Norwegian Wood." With the "Straight Up" album cover that definitely was inspired by "Rubber Soul" and the placement of it as the second song on one of the LP's sides (although on side 2 instead of side 1) these guys surely looked up to The Beatles - to simulate them to that much detail! Not a fault though, I look to The Fab Four for inspiration (amongst other bands including Badfinger) also.
Still one of my favorite groups from the late 60s/early70s and their Straight Up album is one of the best ever put out by anyone. It's tragic that they were screwed by bad management. Pete Ham was a great musical talent who died much too soon...oh, what we all missed out in.
You know what I think, musicians are people who feel alot of emotins and show it in their music. Life is so emotional. They are sensitive people. Me too. Life is so hard when you can't cope with your emotions well.
I owe an apology to Badfinger and they're amazin tunes, I can remember them in my early teens, but I was busy doing other things, Just recently at a guitar class with Guy Maile he turned me on to Sweet Tuesday Morning, Anyway wiyhout boring you all to death, What an amazing band.......... And they were Welsh, They are Welsh and always will be Welsh, Respect to you Guy's
First time I heard this song I nearly wore out that 8-track tape version of Straight Up.That was 1972. Website "Badfinger to the Hall of Fame" vote them in.
Awesome post. Only thing I differ with is "Joey Molland's best tune from Straight Up". Everyone on the planet who likes rock n' roll music should do themselves a favor and listen to "Sometimes" as soon as possible. It doesn't get ANY better than that song, anywhere, by anyone.
Badfinger was the most underrated band in history. The loss of Pete, Tommy and Mike is tragic
Badfinger are simply, one of the best bands of all time!
I have every album.
Great songwriting, great musicianship, great singers. What more could you ask for?
Love them! :)
Good god almighty, what a perfect band was Badfinger?!
Badfinger's album "Straight Up" was, and still is a, brilliant piece of work. This song is just one of the gems on it.
One of Joey's most beautiful songs.
Have to comment. Badfinger live without post production. I love it, but I can't not be devastated by the band. Even 40+ years on. Nobody leaves alive, but that band, that music, those musicians--I wish it hadn't hurt so awfully to have been Badfinger.
+Kim Dopp Absolutely. Badfinger deserved a much better fate.
damn it, you made me cry < :^(
teared up myself.
It is Monday but I'll take it.. Adore this song.... Why don't folks write songs like this anymore?
What a wonderful song, and sung wonderfully. Damn, I just love Badfinger music.
Badfinger Unplugged...beautiful job, Joey.
I believe Money was the B side (at least on the 45 I own.)
The song is a very good taste of what Joey brought to Badfinger. There's often a lot of talk about Pete and Tom, and understandably so, but pieces like this show how valuable Joey was in the visions of greatness that came out of this band. A beautifully crafted song.

Beautiful song, Joey. Thank You!
Melodic and beautiful.
I hear the song and I feel a great sadness remembering the tragic end of two of its members. Beautiful song and nicely played by Joey.
Straight up was one of THE great albums
Such a tragedy what happened.
Proper musicians and songwriters.
Such a lovely tune; I remember it fondly from the 70s...
I've just discovered that I like most of their songs too, what an amazing group!!
I always liked Badfinger, always loved this album, and always loved this song. This is the first time I see them play it live and their singing and playing is flawless. This brings a lot of memories.
One of my favorite bands of my youth. I truly miss them. So tragic and so sad how they were treated be the industry.
This one made my ears perk up. I thought Badfinger was just okay for a pop band. I will rethink my opinion now. This song, done live, acoustically, is quite divine. Sweet, indeed.
Nice and easy listening ... I relax enjoying those chords!

This is also one of my favourite songs.

Oh I agree! Definite Hall of Fame. It is never too late.
Saw them perform this in '73 at the old wrestling auditorium in Atlanta,GA. Aband named White Witch played first.Badfinger performed most of Straight Up that night-truely magical!

Brilliant.
when i first met my hubby at age 17 he looke dso much like him it blew me away !!!
These poor guys got hosed by the music industry. Their manager was an amoral ass
Not hard to figure out why The Beatles liked them and got them on their label.
a "b" side as i recall but i never knew joey sang it, thanks for posting
love that song!
Thats nice to hear, someone is about to embark on a musical journeythey will surely wonder at,
Great acoustics. Big dreadnaughts
You notice how bands like Badfinger and songs from this era never get hateful comments?

Badfinger are "The Beatles" with some Balls.
+1stSaintsFan Well, unlike The Beatles, they were never particularly innovative or groundbreaking, but, unlike a lot of other groups, they always knew how to write damn good songs.
Great song
Wow, great tune! Thank you :) Found it just in time to post at 5am tomorrow when I have to get up. Super cool!
Odd that I never heard songs like this from them..The radio always played the faster songs..I had no idea they were so good..I missed out on the band..grrrr

Same with mine, and it's an original 45 from when it first came out.
beautiful song/alleluyah badfinger

superb
beautiful melody brought out by the nice bongo beat...sense a little of the Beatles influence in this song, like Rocky Raccoon or Blackbird...
Thankyou for posting 5*****
First time I heard this song I nearly wore out that 8-track tape version of Straight Up.That was 1972. Website "Badfinger to the Hall of Fame" vote them in.
懐かしい・・隠れた名曲だね。
I think the line up you see here is half Welsh (Pete Ham & Mike Mike Gibbins) and half Liverpudlians (Tom Evans & Joey Molland).
@greatsajby yes, you get a close up of joey playing guitar when it's pete actually doing the wonderful solo.
Great McCartney-esque tune by Joey who looks like McCartney...
Men had such beautiful hair in the 70's
