  • In October of 1971 Slade recorded 3 nights of live shows which were being edited down into their seminal album 'Slade Alive', unfortunately no footage exists of those shows.
With 'Coz I Luv You' notching up its fourth week at number 1 in the charts in the UK, the band took themselves off to Belgium to record an edition of 'Popshop', a weekly transmitted French language pop showcase from broadcasters RTBF channel.
Recorded in Liège at the Palais des Congrès on the 29th November 1971. The fact that Slade even appeared on the show is interesting in that Popshop usually featured prog rock bands like Pentangle, Van Der Graf Generator, Genesis and the like, but we can all be glad that the footage has survived and this is the nearest we'll ever get to what Slade were like live in 1971!
This is the crappy colourised version that nobody wants to see......but you all will regardless!!

Slade can not be contrast with other groups for their music and style was unique. genius of Slade how they can play a cover better than the original artist.

As a 13yr old boy with Asperger’s I was obsessed with certain aspects and slade has stayed an obsession all these yrs later and now 65yrs old I cry wishing that life never changed at that age , they made me take up guitar then and still play slade music to this day . Thanks David for all your posts they make life barable at my age and rewind the clock . If only Dave hill never took to wearing silver suits and stayed with the 60s clothes / hippy era lol they would’ve been absolute monsters of rock today and had 20 number ones as there music was so unique nobody could touch them then and now ❤️❤️❤️🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻

Wonderful stuff. I have previously seen the monochrome version that some people seem to prefer, but to see it colourised back into all its glory is exceptional. And for some reason the colour version seems to sound better as well!

It's a great piece of Slade history Alan, and if colourising it (iffily! ) drags a few more people to discover the band and how good they were, then I'm all for it!

Quite incredible how by “colourising” this performance it feels like watching it for the first time . Absolutely fantastic work. And if I’m not mistaken the sound has also been improved, Nods vocal certainly seems clearer.
    What a band .

Long before Punk was a thing, there was Slade bashing it out. Of course, by the time Punk was a thing...they had moved on. I think Slade's ability to evolve was a blessing (to long time fans) and a curse to those who came across them at different point in their history, who couldn't grasp exactly who they were...the Slade of the early days? Or Glam days? Or Merry Xmas Everybody? or In Flame Slade? Heavy Metal Slade? Late career power pop Slade? I loved it all and still do 50+ years later, but I started at the beginning.

This is ace - for me, the best period of Slade. Just on the cusp of the Glam years, before the big hits. Of course I do love the biggies, but they were very musical here - Dave playing some decent guitar (he's no Alvin Lee of course!) and the band sounding ballsy. Then Dave started waggling his arse 😞

As this is a crappy colourised version I cant see why any one would want to watch it . I had been watching them live in Black Country venues for a couple of years and that was in proper colour. But if you do want to watch this footage just remember this is Slade playing live in 1971 ...I defy anyone to beat that 🙂

I don't know what all the fuss is about. Churning out the same ol' stuff we've all seen before. All you've done is posted it in it's entirety, with some Johnny Foreigner talking with a dodgy accent, and cleaned up the sound a bit. 🤔
Oh, and you've added a bit of colour too. 😎

Makes you realise, Glam ruined Slade though we did not know it at the time. If only they had told H to put the silly costumes away. Anyone who saw them between 78 & 80 would have seen the serious rock band they should have been & were in this 1971 film.
