- In October of 1971 Slade recorded 3 nights of live shows which were being edited down into their seminal album 'Slade Alive', unfortunately no footage exists of those shows.
With 'Coz I Luv You' notching up its fourth week at number 1 in the charts in the UK, the band took themselves off to Belgium to record an edition of 'Popshop', a weekly transmitted French language pop showcase from broadcasters RTBF channel.
Recorded in Liège at the Palais des Congrès on the 29th November 1971. The fact that Slade even appeared on the show is interesting in that Popshop usually featured prog rock bands like Pentangle, Van Der Graf Generator, Genesis and the like, but we can all be glad that the footage has survived and this is the nearest we'll ever get to what Slade were like live in 1971!
This is the crappy colourised version that nobody wants to see......but you all will regardless!!
Slade can not be contrast with other groups for their music and style was unique. genius of Slade how they can play a cover better than the original artist.
As a 13yr old boy with Asperger’s I was obsessed with certain aspects and slade has stayed an obsession all these yrs later and now 65yrs old I cry wishing that life never changed at that age , they made me take up guitar then and still play slade music to this day . Thanks David for all your posts they make life barable at my age and rewind the clock . If only Dave hill never took to wearing silver suits and stayed with the 60s clothes / hippy era lol they would’ve been absolute monsters of rock today and had 20 number ones as there music was so unique nobody could touch them then and now ❤️❤️❤️🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
I agree with you..as I type this reply, the vid is playing..now into the middle of HMC...what a sound..if only they had stayed doing this stuff.....what a legacy they would have now.....cheers SC!
Well done young man, bet you mastered that guitar.
THE voice in rock and roll!
Soon as this starts I get goosebumps …..thanks again for another great video 👍
Cheers Billy... :)
Wonderful stuff. I have previously seen the monochrome version that some people seem to prefer, but to see it colourised back into all its glory is exceptional. And for some reason the colour version seems to sound better as well!
You're not supposed to like it!..It is the SIE cleaned up version of the audio..redubbed onto the original audio.....hiss gone !
Seeing this colorized version brings it to life for me and I never tire of hearing their early sets. Great band, great era, great visuals
Another great piece of Slade history brought to life
Thankyou
Magic. Guitars, drums and some amps/speakers - some rocking tunes and that's all you need.
It's a great piece of Slade history Alan, and if colourising it (iffily! ) drags a few more people to discover the band and how good they were, then I'm all for it!
Absolutely brilliant once again David.
Cheers Mark! appreciated..... :)
Absolutely fantastic! Thanks David. I don’t know where you drag these clips from, but I’m glad you do 🙂.
Cheers muchly Wes! :)
Absolute class, another SIE gem, thanks Dave.
Cheers mate!
Quite incredible how by “colourising” this performance it feels like watching it for the first time . Absolutely fantastic work. And if I’m not mistaken the sound has also been improved, Nods vocal certainly seems clearer.
What a band .
Now watching it for the second time today 👌👍🎶
heers Alan..its on in the background now...shit hot, tight as a ducks arse...just superb, the nearest we'll ever get to imagining the SA recording sessions....
Fantastic David, thanks !
Cheers Jeff, much obliged!
As always great vid👍
Thank you Kevvie x
Stunning stuff...They were on top form...but then when wernt they?..Absolute killer band both on record and live..Without a doubt in my top 3 bands ive seen live in over 45 years of seeing live gigs...Truely amazing band 👍👍👍👍THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS UP 👌
Fan&@$?tastic🤗🇦🇺 I loved Dave Hill in his Silver gear, he started a dress style that was uniquely Slade, and us down under copied his outfits ❤darling be home soon was a treat, close up footage of Dave Hill singing, his guitar work was fantastic too🫶⭐️🎻🎤🎸🥁
Great insight into what the feeling was there...glad you enjoyed it...cheers!
I actually tear up when I watch these old vids, our teenage years, gone, Slade were so important to us kids, Thankyou for sharing these memories, this is how music should be, raw with a dust of glitter, Slade, love the boys ❤ Get down and get with it………..pure ecstasy 🇦🇺
Fantastic performance by Slade! You can hear that the album "Slade Alive" was recorded in this period. 👌❤️🔥
Este album es lo maximo. Slade alive ❤
@@carmenrosarodriguezgarcia8276 I think "Slayed" is their best album. And maybe "Slade Alive" is their 2nd best album........
Excellent as always. Everything she says is true as well
She?
The Frenchie at the start. 😂
Brill as always, a special thanks for the lack of annoying watermarks. Keep it up good Sir.
Slade In England...quality output and barely visible static watermarks....a sign of quality and not ego....cheers my friend :)
Thanks David, i liked that, reminded me of the band i saw live in Oz 50 years ago.
Brilliant. Coloured version finishes it perfectly. Love GDWI on this. Just how it was meant to be heard.
Never seen this stuff before! Thank you very much for the enjoyment!
As if I was transferred to my school years with a new quality!
Thank you very much for the new material!
Wow !. these guys were awesome. and they were soon to smash the charts like no act since the Beatles.
Absolutely mint!!! Luvin this.. The ‘real’ pure ‘proper’ Slade!!… merci once again my mate 🙌🙌👍
Good to see this in colour, never been a fan of Coming Home tbh, not sure where it would fit on SA, assume a few others were left out.
Long before Punk was a thing, there was Slade bashing it out. Of course, by the time Punk was a thing...they had moved on. I think Slade's ability to evolve was a blessing (to long time fans) and a curse to those who came across them at different point in their history, who couldn't grasp exactly who they were...the Slade of the early days? Or Glam days? Or Merry Xmas Everybody? or In Flame Slade? Heavy Metal Slade? Late career power pop Slade? I loved it all and still do 50+ years later, but I started at the beginning.
Thumbs Up.
Too bad "Comin Home" wasn't put on the Alive album. Excellent work on the colors, a superb archive.
Merci GeGe.. :)
😎
Fantastyczne. David skad masz takie artefakty😮
Introduces them playing Cos I luv you. So? They are playing Hearing me called
This is wonderful. Although it's a shame you don't get how loud it was from the audio..
Well...."nobody wants to see"..... but I saw that gladly. Did you do the colorization by yourself ?
This is ace - for me, the best period of Slade. Just on the cusp of the Glam years, before the big hits. Of course I do love the biggies, but they were very musical here - Dave playing some decent guitar (he's no Alvin Lee of course!) and the band sounding ballsy. Then Dave started waggling his arse 😞
I know what you mean, real forehead slapping stuff......but here at least he's got all his chops right!
As this is a crappy colourised version I cant see why any one would want to watch it . I had been watching them live in Black Country venues for a couple of years and that was in proper colour. But if you do want to watch this footage just remember this is Slade playing live in 1971 ...I defy anyone to beat that 🙂
Righto.....
Just what we wanted. Not quite perfect. It needs a fucking huge watermark
LOL...Look...I'll try harder next time, I need to lose a few teeth and start talking out my arse first....
SUPER GREAT!!! LOVE!!!
Thank You Val :)
@@greywolf907 Love!!! SLADE!! Vodka with You!! Thank You!! Val
I don't know what all the fuss is about. Churning out the same ol' stuff we've all seen before. All you've done is posted it in it's entirety, with some Johnny Foreigner talking with a dodgy accent, and cleaned up the sound a bit. 🤔
Oh, and you've added a bit of colour too. 😎
😃
dAMneD, ... do you wanna give me a heart attack, in kicking such OUTstanding GALORE stuff out?? TELL me!!
Listening to Nod introduce the 2nd song as being on their new Slade Alive album i wondered why it was deleted, after listening to the song i realised why it was not included. It's not as good as the songs that made the album.
🇷🇺👍🔥
Makes you realise, Glam ruined Slade though we did not know it at the time. If only they had told H to put the silly costumes away. Anyone who saw them between 78 & 80 would have seen the serious rock band they should have been & were in this 1971 film.
SLADE❤
Absolutely brilliant, so much better content on this channel than that one with the daft spinning watermarks all over them.
I'm thinkoing of introducing such a special effect soon....
