Your video was the best beach worming info session on the net. I’ve only tried once and all I got were misses and heads. I’ve never considered the worm pliers, but you made it look very effective for ‘holding’ the worm initially. I guess I’ll have to figure out the tensing process to know when to pull. Thanks!
Very appreciated mate! The pliers definitely are the easiest and fastest way to start getting worms, however the con is that if used incorrectly is that you’ll be busting worms. Little patience and practice with pulling them out and it becomes a rare occurrence. Hope you get onto some and some good fish after 👍🏼

Thanks for putting this video champ , I have tried years ago at Frazer island and had a few break offs , I had the pliers but no idea on how to handle them ,some of the fishoes where not interested in showing how to do it properly sadly they were only showing how easy it was for them To catch them ( showing off ) which made it frustrating , I nearly got a whole worms but I wasnt good enough , your video shows the right way , I’m confident in the future I’ll be more sufficient at worming , cheers for the video. 👍

@@anglinguntangled I tried today - crowded Sydney beach, swell a bit big. Saw plenty of smallish worms but they were flighty. Never got one to hold on to my hand bait so didn't get a crack with my new pliers. Work in progress though and will try again when conditions are a bit better.

One of the best guides on RUclips. Some food for thought, using the pliers often kills the worms so using them live often isnt possible. Coming from the side of the worm will reduce the number of worms close by you can target as your stepping close to them. The same thing when you are digging, at minute 14ish of the video you can see there looks like two worms within 20cm of each other and when you stuck your hand in to soggy the second one is gone. I'd love to make my version of this video for you to give me some feedback aswell. The last few months I've been practising pulling them one handed and my rate is still below 20% that way.
Thanks mate, greatly appreciated. The pliers kills worms thing is a myth, for alvey worming pliers anyway. Caught this way worms can last up to 3 days which is as long as you can expect from worms caught with fingers and stored in dry sand too, in my experience. The approach and digging points are true, but worms are also usually plentiful enough once you find them that you can just take one step away in most directions and be onto another one, and it’s easiest to swing the stink bag up the beach away from your bait hand. Given all that, I highly regard using only fingers and anyone that can do it well. It’s something I’ll be working on for years I reckon
Hi Mate Spent 3hrs teaching my mate today on the beach exactly what you showed so well. Sent him a link to vid to watch If you do a vid using metho to cure the worms can I suggest you add a small bottle of red food dye in 1 litre of metho. As the worms are cured they absorb the red food dye and come out bright red. Just a suggestion you might want to try Where might u be based?
Not the quickest method for catching them but by far the most reliable I’ve found. Yeah but if red food dye gets them looking really good! I’m now down on the sapphire coast of NSW

I reckon worms have pretty fast growth and reproductive cycles so a few more rec wormers won’t make a dent, especially when the pros take 100’s a day and seems they’re pretty sustainable. Good time to have a go for them cos it was thick with them a week ago 👍🏼
I’ve seen the pro’s catch them on Frasier island for bait shops. They can pick them up as fast as a normal person could pick up coins. I tried for half an hour but could only pull one, they seem so quick. Definitely a technique to it.
Worst part is these pros don't stick to any quota and decimate stocks. There used to be near endless amounts of them in Newcastle and Port Stephens but you're lucky to come across more than one or two on a half hour walk along the beaches these days. I've even talked to a couple of the Bloke's who catch them who have admitted to catching upto 20k each in Christmas holidays alone.

Great video. Very reliable method although i often just pull it out gently even without water. You can also use any cheap pliers but have to work out the right pressure to hold onto and it tends to kill the worm abit faster. I would not recommend catch more than 5-10 worms max as it will just go wasted and you are just depleting worms on your favourable spot...
Cheers mate. Yeah I’ve noticed that a lot of places you can just pull them straight out but at others they dig in something fierce. Got a feeling it’s to do with the sand they’re in. Fully agree with only taking what’s needed, if I’m going for a solo whiting/bream fish I’ll usually be happy with three good worms

He has some great worming vids from the area and you may be able to tell the beaches from the background, and he might lead you in the right direction if you reach out 👍🏼
Any beach will hold worms with the right conditions.ie:flat gentle sloping areas.ive found the best time to go is two or three days after a big swell as the big waves will flatten a previously steep beach to a gentler sloping angle ideal for worming,plus the big swell seems to bring them in.👍..P.s as you say the bigger swell is not ideal,just wait until the swell drops to a suitable size as in this video.the beach will still be flat and ideal for worming😂

Using fingers can be tricky, I’ve honestly my skills a lot more with it and found a much slower approach digging you’re fingers deep into the sand behind the worm slowly until you can feel them, then just a gentle squeeze while they’re relaxed. 👍🏼

Patience is the game when starting out. Let the worm fully grab in before even thinking of getting the pliers involved, then make sure your being gentle so as to not be snapping worms. Happy hunting mate, hopefully you have good luck with it
Cheers mate. Off the beach I use a two hook paternoster rig 90% of the time. The other rig is a simple running sinker rig and is what I use in the estuaries all of the time. Both rigs I’ll use long shank bait holder style hooks and sometimes dress is up with a bit of red tubing. Hopefully do an episode on the paternoster rig soon
I’m not too sure if they’re over west. I know they are around in South Australia. You’d reckon they’d survive fine so might have to start a colony if they’re not haha

No I’ve been able to get them year round. The population may have been wiped out naturally or even migrated down the beach a small ways, or been wiped out from over harvesting (but hopefully not!)
Given the chance they can but non painful. Very odd occassion they’ll be that plentiful and hungry they can bite your foot but usually when handing them
wait untill you see them arch there body then whack em and they will come out easier i just use a stocking as bait holder and lure just saves worring about holding something else put enough in it so you can swing it 7 or 8 pillys is pretty good and id try to do the worms in some cool sand in the shade if you can you dont want to start to cook them in the hot sand and stop cheating and learn how to get then without the pliers LOL i get my finger under them wait for the arch then grab them between thumb and finger i saw you were going for the pinch method i found alot slip out that way tight lines
Yeah I plan on mastering the fingers at some point but am usually a bit impatient to get fishing 😅. Will give that method for gripping a whirl next time I try though. Have tried just using a stocking as the stink and bait bag and don’t mind it, but find the bigger stink bag brings more up if there’s not many around, so it’s just a hit of a habit. Yeah I always keep some dry sand at home in case it’s too hot at the beach but was a pretty crisp day so it wasn’t too bad

your knots are half hitches, nice tutorial, all a bit strange to me as I've only fished deep sea from a boat using huge kahawai or trevally, octopus or squid baits, I live near Mooloolaba and have not fished in 24 years here after leaving NZ, so I'd like to have a crack off of a beach, nobody can afford fish at 50 a kg

Hey mate. To preserve my beach worms, I put them in metho with red food dye and freeze them.

The worms on Nobby's Beach are some of the hardest I have ever come across mate. I only use fingers but I struggle to get many there. Very flighty.

I have seen a number of decent sized worms at maroubra beach but worming conditions are not favourable with big waves swells

From memory, if chasing bream and whiting I’ll go with a size 1 or 2 hook. If having a go for a jewy I’ll go a size 4/0 hook in the same style

your knots are half hitches, nice tutorial, all a bit strange to me as I've only fished deep sea from a boat using huge kahawai or trevally, octopus or squid baits, I live near Mooloolaba and have not fished in 24 years here after leaving NZ, so I'd like to have a crack off of a beach, nobody can afford fish at 50 a kg
