That's easy. First off, he doesn't have a "weird French accent" because he is not French, but a Flemish Belgian. So his native tongue is Flemish (variant of the Dutch language, spoken in Flanders, Nothern half of Belgium (Southern half is Walloon, French dialect). Secondly, Flemish people are usually good with other languages. Most of us are good/fluent in 3 languages minimum. Thirdly, we don't dub foreign TV series/films, but subtitle them. So we soak up foreign languages pretty fast.
She is praised by some of the most brilliant directors of our generation such as Woody Allen, Christopher Nolan or James Gray. She stole 95% of every scenes, from every movies she's been in. And Honestly ANYONE who've seen "Rust and Bone" will tell you the same thing; She is breathtaking.
Well, she's a good actress, but, as a woman , I couldn't take my eyes of Mathias any time he was on screen. I really love his manners, his eyes, body, his elegance. Amazing Mathias!!!

What a glorious artist Cotillard is! And what a pleasure to see that playful side her friends and coworkers talk about but which we audience rarely get a look at. She's so classy, calm, peaceful, and happy at premieres and industry events that she seems to have consistent behavior. Under that she's quite the bohemian with a really quirky, jokey attitude. Greatness is already hers; that she's getting this Best Actress Award from the LA TIMES entity will lead the second Oscar buzz.
Rust and Bone will stand the test of time .. splendid acting perfs by both leads, master-class filmmaking, great, great soundtrack.. But Matthias stood out for me. I have been binge-watching his movies since, including the spectacular Bullhead. Aside from being a sterling actor, he has this aura of unforced masculinity which I find so sexy and compelling. Not at all.. They were joking at the beginning and during the interview.. If anything, one could say that she is a little bit apprehensive because the interview is in English and she is the less fluent of the two. But her English is improving a lot. Also, if Marion wouldn't get along with Matthias, then why would she has worked again with him in the upcomming "Blood Ties" directed by her husband? Too bad this movie won't get a full US release, so a bad remake looks imminent in a few years time..

I admire and am a fan of both of these incredibly talented actors. French and European films embody and deliver a message and quality of acting that Hollywood movies lack. The interviewer is terribly simplistic and it is painful to hear his weak questions to both actors. I would have asked much more intense and intelligent and witty questions to engage both actors. This is painful to watch and you can tell by the facial expressions of both actors, how uncomfortable they were at times with the inconsequential and lame questions they were asked. Aside from that, I admire and enjoyed watching both of these actors in Rust and Bone, as well as other films they've participated in.

in Flanders we speak dutch, and dutch is the closest language to english, so i'm guessing he just took some lessons to improve his pronunciation, but people speak english quite well in the dutch linguistic region... his french is better than his english though, imho

The only way to get to this interview is to do some research about Marion. So the people saying means things about are just haters ! They intentionally search things about her just to insult her or her work. The truth is,it's killing them to see a beautiful actress with so much talent getting raves from everybody except two or three people so insecure about themselves that they need to go out there trashing people's life.

The only way to get to this interview is to do some research about Marion. So the people saying means things about are just haters ! They intentionally search things about her just to insult her or her work. The truth is,it's killing them to see a beautiful actress with so much talent getting raves from everybody except two or three people so insecure about themselves that they need to go out there trashing people's life.
They are excellent in RUST & BONE but the first film I saw Matthias in is the great underrated crime film THE DROP with Tom Hardy & James Gandolfini. Matthias is fantastic in it as a sleazy small time hood
