    Matthias and Thomas are so very intelligent and it's interesting to observe one coming from a director who has to oversee the entire crew and Matthias who foretells his sensitivties of his role. Carey and Matthias are truly the stars of this movie. They are the draw that bring the interest in the remake of this classic. After seeing this rendition, I did watch the rendition made 20 years ago.

    Really enjoyed this conversation between the director and the actor of this film. I have seen the film a few times and i agree with their take about the end. I love what Thomas said about devotion being the adult sense of love as opposed to the teenage sense of love. I think Bathsheba as portrayed in this film does experience that transformation of being independent and feisty young lady who needs to prove to herself that she can make it on her own, to being interdependent with Gabriel Oak. As the movie unfolds we start to see the small signs of her seeking Gabriel's thoughts as she comes to see him as her equal and able to show her emotional vulnerability to him. She learns real devotion only after being ill treated by her husband. She learns that what Gabriel offers is true love and true devotion. And more importantly, she learns to develop the courage to be vulnerable with him and allow herself to admit her love for him.

    Wow. What a spectacular interview, so vivid,open, and honest. In regards to that last question, his answer was heartfelt and passoniate. Of course it was out of love. The realization of mature love. The realization of the great man who loved her for a life time. What a great love story.

    So true what they said about the kiss; as someone who is not familiar with the novel i literally did feel like jumping out of my chair when it happened. Such great chemistry & both beautiful

      gc123x I cried when they kissed and wanted to jump out of my chair but was too busy crying. Such a great movie, can't rave about it enough. Matthias is the perfect actor for this roll.

      I always eat up period dramas i love em :) Like i said i don't know the novel but i just loved his character; humble, kind, shy, quietly supporting her with no thought for his own feelings. Looks to me like Matthias did an incredible job but i'd like to hear from someone who has read the book as to whether that's a true reflection of book Gabriel, maybe i should read it myself!

      I didn't read it either, will skip the book and keep on being in love with the movie instead this time. This version works well for me and if it ain't broke why fix it, right? I just saw another one with Matthias in Suite Française, i think you might enjoy it too :)

    Totally in love with Thomas Vinterberg. What a smart guy with a great insight and perception. Love his humor too. I totally agree with what he says about character of Gabriel of being a man, that can see the woman, listen to the woman, give space to a woman and still be a man, being very rare. It´s true unfortunately. And I can´t help wondering, why is that.

    that's right. I agree with what Thomas said. she'd learned devotion from Gabriel which is one of really important elements of true and mature love. Yeah and she became to love him truly. She grown up without parents so doesn't know about devotion but independence I guess. That was all she knows and thinks about. this director's so sensitive~ I like him. and I like Matthias schoenaerts so much. He's a really nice person. so honest sincere and talented. love his glance.. stare.~ so warm sensible and charming~

    Concerning the pre-last scene: I interpreted that Batsheba has realized the unrelenting devotion of Gabriel and finally is ready to respond and commit with a same devotion.

    Loved Thomas V in this interview.. very intelligent and eloquent -- funny too🤣FFMC was the first Matthias movie that I saw and I have been hooked since. Loved him in his phenomenal Bullhead and Rust and Bone projects. Seriously, this dude is a major actor! But at the same time, I was like: "Oh, crap.. another unattainable actor crush. F*** my life!" Sorry, I'm just a silly fangirl stalking him here 🥰

    A very beautiful & important discussion and great interpretations of the main actors.... particularly in a day and age where there is much confusion about gender roles: what it means to be a woman, to be a man. Hut ab!!!

    The depth of these actors emotions was so magnetic, I enjoyed this 2015 rendition of the movie. What is it that makes the Danish so advanced sexually than Americans or the British? Is it the cold weather? (smile).

    • @JadedKate
      @JadedKate Год назад

      no, it's the fact that they were _not_ raised to be sexually _repressed_ that makes the danish very openminded and progressive in comparison.

    If the 3 men were a piano chord, William being all about the money and Bathsheba being an ornament.
    Troy was selfish and thought only of himself and Gabriel (Matthias) came from a place of true love. He showed remarkable inner strength. Besides being so great looking, Matthias stood out in the Madding Crowd.

  • @pattyannepiccione6140
    @pattyannepiccione6140 5 лет назад +6

    I'd love to see Matthias in a more modern day sophisticated love story. Plus an ongoing development of that love. Sometimes it's annoying when the audience can draw their own conclusions. It would be nice to see the couple's love develop over maybe 10 years.or more and have him deal with more modern day issues. I guess I'm saying what his true love bring out in him. Maybe we'll never see that or maybe we'll have to wait until he really falls in love. In my own life, I could write 3/4rs of the film, not that I'm looking for that in any way. But he does have me reading Plato, Socrates and Aristotle.
