      Yeah it's time to invest in a 100W+ charger. You could go with the one linked in this video or others. I just picked up a 140W 3 USB-C port one for $50. Totally worth it as I could do 140W or 100W + 30W or 65W + 65W or 65W + 45W + 30W. The first two unlocks 30W Turbo mode.

    Doesn't any dock that has DP 1.2+ out has FreeSync? Too bad this doesn't have HDMI out as well so you could run a dual monitor setup. There are docks that has both DP & HDMI for as low as $50 or so.
    Also FreeSync will still work with a DP to USB-C cable as well. Just not with a DP to HDMI cable tho as VRR isn't supported in this manner.
    Im still looking for that ultimate dock that has USB-C DP and DP out but there are none out right now. I believe this is a limitation of USB-C right now.
    Lastly if you have an XGM then that HDMI out does support VRR. I believe this is because it doesn't use anything with the USB-C port from the Ally but instead their other port that looks like an Oculink one.
    I just ordered one tho as there is a 20% off coupon at this time too. Thanks for the share!

    • @filt3rless
      @filt3rless  Год назад +1

      Hey, I'm not sure on the DP for all monitors. The ones I found do, but I think it just allows for the manufacture to support it (which would definitely make sense to include).
      Let me know if you find a dock that let's you do 2 display's out while still allowing at least 1 to have FreeSync, that'd be a game changer!
      I think there is some weird limit as well, as the I haven't seen another USB-C HUB with Display Port where FreeSync works. But they usually have a bunch of additional ports. Since this one is so minimal, I wonder if it's some weird port/bandwidth limitation.

      @@filt3rlessI wonder if the new jsaux RGB larger dock support this. I'm still waiting for them to be back in stock on their site. I didn't want the white one and was willing to wait for the black one. It's $90 but listed 4K@120Hz vs the Amazon one showing 4K@60Hz. The DP is 1.4 tho. I'm just not sure if it has VRR unless I could test it. At this point I rather just get the Jsaux RGB dock tho.

    • @ezg8448
      @ezg8448 Год назад

      I'm 90% sure there are hubs that have both display port and HDMI outs.
      It's made by Ugreen or Baseus, pretty sure it's the later.
      Whether or not freesync will work on it is another matter altogether.

      @@volcalstone I've tried the Steam Dock which has display port v1.4 and it didn't work on the Ally. It's why this find is so rare, I'm not sure why most of them don't and it's hard to find one that does support it. The only guess I'd have is something with total bandwidth. But even then, it seems like it'd allow for FreeSync at a lower refresh rate.
      If you end up getting it, let me know. I don't think it'll work though just based on how many hub's Alexander went through as well as my own testing.

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone Год назад

      @@filt3rlessI got the jsaux RGB dock yesterday and VRR doesn't work for the DP so this is really strange. I do like everything else about the dock though like the dual screens. I'm going to do more testing the next few days tho. I believe this dock only does 4K@120Hz while using one display at a time. Kinda similar to their existing dock that doesn't have RGBs. Using 2 displays will probably drop it down to 60Hz only. I believe only USB4 docks could do dual 4K@120Hz displays.
      I do agree that it's probably a bandwidth issue with USB-C 3.2. At this point I think any docks with two displays out won't have VRR. I believe only a dedicated USB-C to DP only hub like this will work. I got the dock in this video and it works perfectly fine, it gives me VRR.

    • @filt3rless

      Hey, it should be able to be set at 144hz no issues. FreeSync will make it so the display automatically matches the in-game FPS.
      It's just like on the Ally where you want to keep the Ally at max refresh (120Hz), then it'll match the FPS and look really smooth. It's basically unlocking the Ally experience on an external monitor which is great. Just make sure the monitor you're using has Display Port 1.2 or higher and supports FreeSync :)
