Yabushige probably the most likable rat in any film adaptations.
yeah i liked this son of B😄
My favorite character, he is just so loveable even when he is being sketchy
His character is what makes the story very unique. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes deceitful, sometimes honourable, sometimes courageous, sometimes cowardly, sometimes wise and sometimes foolish. The book as well as the writrrs of the show have made him exceptional. And rightly that sob demands my respect and i gave him amply. Arigato yabu-sama
Yea i agree, even tho he had one man boiled to death in the first episode, i still liked his character. He was a sadist and that actor portrayed the lack of empathy and other traits that points towards the fact that he is a genuine psychopath fascinated by death very well.
SPOILERS: he even died a badass ! that nonchalant belly stab and the smile on his face when he looked back at Toranaga what a legend
Hiroyuki Sanada better be winning some well deserved awards for this, not only the acting but also producer.
He really deserves it, he is great in this series
I don't know how you can be both executive producer and main actor and still deliver a level of quality like this. Hiroyuki Sanada must be a great multi-tasker
team dont want to die..
He is an excellent actor in this type pf performance, but producing is just financing, isn't it.
@@yaseralharbi4641 executive producers are for financing but Hiroyuki Sanada is not an executive producer, just “producer”.
I don’t know what he did in that role for Shogun, but in general producers do a ton for films. They handle most of the logistics like hiring people, scheduling, and commonly weighing in on all sorts of creative decisions
I hate that the actor who plays Ichido is such a classy and well spoken man, goddamn you! 😄
Ha ha ha I know right? Look at that happy smile and his excellent English. 🥰
He really is classy and it shows even when he's playing Ishido
Kashigi Yabushige was my favorite character hands down. His mannerisms were so funny. The whole cast was awesome, lead and supporting, but Yabushige was my guy.
My god this show was perfection.
Yoshii Toranaga is the mythical embodiment of the famous japanese warlord, Ieyasu Tokugawa. Seeing Hiroyuki Sanada portray Toranaga is a treat. I wouldn't doubt the success of this series since, in my opinion, its casts are considered big stars in japan and are serious actors: Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira
Еще и девушка эта, из Монарха
Amazing show. The writing, the cast, the costumes....... everything. We need more shows like this.
This is the first work since directed by Akira Kurosawa that expresses the image of the Japanese samurai, and is a wonderful piece of work.
The 2 greatest Japanese actors of their time, Toshiro Mifune and Hiroyuki Sanada, each played Yoshi Toronaga (Tokugawa Ieyasu)
Mariko ep 9 blew me away... Incredibly powerful and fierce. Loved it!!!!
I like Buntaro. The show portrays him as an opponent to overcome for Blackthorne but he is a quintessential samurai.
Yeah he just wanted his wife to love him😂 and such a fucking badass
As someone born back in the 70's, I grew up with the original show with Toshiro Mifune and Richard Chamberlain...loved it sooo much and saw it several times...more than 30 years later comes a remake and I must say although the main story is similar, there are many differences...I'm a huge fan of Hiroyuki Zanada and after being an awesome action oriented side character in many films, now he is the main star and the energy and charisma shining from him in the role of Toranaga is incredible! Like very much the new Mariko also, super devoted to her role...Blackthorne is okay, but actors playing Jabushido and Ishido are awesome in their roles too...New show is in much darker tone, but the level of authenticity and attention to detail is just mind blowing...Once I stopped comparing both shows, I started to truly enjoy the new one and can hardly wait from one week to another for the next episode...
i too loved the original, but I think the biggest difference between the original and the new one is that the original focused more on Blackthorne as the main character and the new one focused more on the story and the Japanese players in the story.
I have to say the costumes in this show are exquisite
This show was so fantastically done
all the actors were incredible.
Anna Sawai for Emmy best supporting actress she’s been incredible!!
you mean BEST ACTRESS!
This is slowly becoming my top3 series of all time. True detective s1 is in the first place.
And Band Of Brothers, Chernobyl, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Game Of Thrones S1-6, Stranger Things, The Sopranos, and Mr. Robot

Yesss! Indeed! Is a masterpiece 💕
Breaking Bad, Black Sails, True Detective S1, Game of Thrones S1-4, The Wire, Twin Peaks and now Shogun o7
God, every ep is amazing. Sadly two more episodes to go... I will miss it greatly
The whole cast was amazing! I hope the show wins lots of awards
Shogun said s an amaaaaaazing show! We need more movies with Hiroyuki Sanada!! 🙏🙏🙏
Blackthorn actor is really good at acting especially after seeing some of his interviews. Guy is stiff board but can act very well.
Other way round for me . He cant act is so wooden and his voice
In real life far better than his richard burton impersonation as blackthorne. Terrible.
Why are their faces just soo memorable. Like all of their faces and the way they acted fit the character.
So happy they are bringing the show back, and it better have Anna Sawai in it lol!
I can't wait for the blu ray. I've watched this series 2x already. I NEED ANOTHER SEASON PLEASE!
Sadly it's been confirmed it was a one and done as it followed the storyline of the novel to its conclusion. Hopefully though they may try and adapt some of Clavell's other novels into a screenplay. e.g. Tai-Pan
@@garyyoung3179 at this point I don't care if they make up a story. I just want at least a 2nd season
I like this movie series and I was capativated by the beauty of Anna Sawai "Mariko sama".
It’s raining in literally every episode. I’m glad I had only sunshine and nice weather conditions when I was I Japan 😂 best show ever though. Episode 8 was absolutely epic.
It was filmed in British Columbia, Canada
The real star for me is Yabushige. His story arc and the acting was, for me, the most deep and poetic. Then Mariko, then Toranaga, then Anjin. All of them great however!!!
Yabushige is so good !! ….. a lovable rascal !!
Tadanobu Asano is a f*ck*ng monster. Best living actor, at least in Japan.
This was great! Thank you.
The scene where Hiromatsu commits seppuku and his son Buntaro seconds him..🤯
Anyone else blown away that _all_ of the extras here are cgi? Brave new world. 1:20
Fell in love with series
I really, REALLY want to know the primary camera/lens combo. It's the very first thing I noticed when I started watching. The vignette and anamorphism is spellbinding. It works beautifully in the storytelling.

Finally, a great series on TV! Excellent cast, great story!❤

If theres one takeaway from this series, is that u’ll never know what lies in the bottom of ones heart
Very impressive movie shogun a brave japanese samurai soldiers
We needed more of Yabushige screen time. He is such a great actor
Masterpiece!
It’s wonderful!!
Emmy nominations, please!!!

?? This is supposed to be about the making of... yet there are no 'behind the scenes' clips and absolutely NOTHING shown about the 'making of' folks. (Just a bunch of brief cameo comments from the cast!)
классные объективы!
Superb work!
Just watched the First season great Story and cast
The finale is next week!
As kid I have watched the Shogun of Richard Chamberlain 80s..will be in season 2 a great Battle!

Tremenda serie cabros, saludos desde Chile....me encanta la historia
Yabushige and fuji were my fav characters ❤
Looks promising. Lets hope it holds
Mariko ❤!!
Did Mariko (Anna) say “this season will focus on Blackthorne”?
Wait……
Are they writing more?
Anybody know what that green laser is for at 1:58 ?
Takehiro Hira is my man
I love my samurai movies 😂 much love to the warriors of the north from the south pacific 💪🏾
Please share/recommend your top 5 samurai movies...
I hope he remakes - 7 Samurai.
And yet, Yabushige pulling out a modern umbrella would not seem anachronistic for him.
She said this season of shogun, so maybe there will be more to come
I now want a Japanese GITS and AKIRA live action series with the same dedication
U know is special when the female scenes is also pulse stopping moment..
Did the Buntaro fight scene inside a building get cut? I keep seeing it in the BTS but I don't recall him fighting inside during the show.
I like every episode 🗡️
I realized just now that all 3 of the main characters are prisoners in their own separate (way) realities.
Yabushige reminds me of sandor clegane - The Hound.
Has a second season been ordered yet?
sadly no. its only going to have 10 episodes for this season. I already saw all 10 episodes back in january and you will be satisfied by the time you see the ending. it will defnitely win multiple emmys next year im sure of it.
@@shekoken how did you watch it full?

Team Fuji here.

The frames exude the brutality of war, so excited
I regret I couldn't give my life defending Mariko
Still, think that Cosmo Jarvis does not belong there...
Fuji more lovely i wish have wife like her❤
my dad watched the og series when he was my age so it's cool to watch with my dad right now
Shwoke..gun....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂hombres beta ...
What I'd like to know is how many of the exterior buildings and sets are practical and what is CGI.
the fact that you CAN'T tell is why this show is simply amazing! I could watch this series all day.
Cuando a sankoukai...lo comenten mujeres....😂😂😂😂😂 Y le dicen que producir para ganar menos dinero ..
season 2 plZ❤
Thank God Lauren Hissrich not given this series and produced by Netflix
Mariko sama death is sad
it's fun to watch, but not a very good adaptation of Clavell's novel. Clavell wrote it from the perspective of an Englishman stranded in Japan. This series has made him out to be a secondary character, rather than the main character, for whatever reason.
Thank god he was a 2ndry character in this version. His acting is rotten. 😂
Production is amazing... Probebly 10/10? but for some reason i get boring watching the series. Like i never had that with game of thrones.
Just another of those videos filled with scenes from the film itself, short statements from the actors and very few actual production scenes. This is propaganda disguised as "Behind-the-Scenes The Making of" 😞
so mariko husband is still alive
If we don't see the dead on screen, then it is always a high chance that the character is still alive.
If you read the book, then yes, Buntaro lived after the Osaka escape.
Imagine if they chose Boris Johson or Nigel Farage to play the Blackthorne character-quintessential Brit. That would've been hilarious.
thank you for not ruining this show with stupid liberal and woke nonsense! Very authentic
See netflix this is how you should do it, not with the woke bs.
And yet… if I do recall correctly, women in Japan were well know for knowing how to fight. Trained in the use of weapons to protect their household. Mariko it’s a representation of that, the weapon of choice “Naginata” which she uses in the show. It’s historically accurate.
@@ludmilanaves6931 yes it did happen in 1600. Even though their roles were diminished significantly. Women were still taught how to defend themselves. And female samurai did exist during the Edo period.
That woman ( the maid ) was trained as a TACTIC. Who else would think of the maid as a killer?!
When I say women were trained as “warriors” I don’t mean all of them.
@@ludmilanaves6931 how about writing a bit better? Your sentences makes no sense at all. I’m starting to think that might be intentional.
And none of what I said is wrong, female samurai or warrior fall in the same category. As the word samurai means “to serve” In Japanese “samurai” is a strictly masculine term. FEMALE SAMURAI WARRIORS it’s the literal translation of the word “Onna-Bugeisha” or “Onna-Musha” both fall into the same category. So, it doesn’t really matter if I say female samurai or warrior. I’m not wrong in either case. And yes I do my research.
Hoy en más basura estilo Netflix.....presentamos ..
que?
残念なのは、この作品もラストサムライも日本人が見ると日本でないことがわかること、
木や土や青さなどが日本じゃないんだよねぇ。
あと、気になったのは城の石垣、次回はもっと精密な日本をお願いしたいですね。。。
Agree but at least it's much better than Memoirs of a Geisha using Chinese or Korean actors
@@oysterman962different era. It came out 20 years ago. Back then Hollywood did a piss poor job at hiring minority actors. Also, in that time period marketable Asian actors were mostly limited to Chinese. Nothing wrong with that, just how things were at the time.
There still, are films and shows where the character and actor’s ethnicities do not match. Again, not always a bad thing depending on the story they’re telling. For Shogun - a story based on one of the most if not the most critical time periods of Japan - had they not used Japanese actors for at least the main speaking characters the audience would’ve torn it apart.
@@jyc313 Yes, ethnic casting is getting better for asian films as the pool of asian actors is larger. However, not all other ethnicities are correctly represented even in modern times. Often Central or south American roles for example are played by anyone with a latino appearance, including Italians or Spanish. It also still depends on many other factors, such as whether actors want the role, whether they are involved in other projects, contracted with one film company, can even speak English, or look too asian! for Western audiences at least. Bruce Lee for example had many of these aforementioned barriers. The director may also have a certain actor in mind but can't afford them within the film's budget or the actor doesn't like the script.
In Memoirs of a Geisha, almost the entire female cast was non Japanese; noteworthy and specifically, Chinese. But as you suggest, they were popular with the mainstream audience being from an extremely successful Hollywood endorsed Chinese film at the time, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. More than likely that Memoirs was cashing in on the momentum from the popularity of those actors.
I disagree there weren't enough notable Japanese actors available 20 years ago to cast in at least some of the key lead roles. Other films, such as The Last Samurai or Kill Bill had real Japanese actors. Or even the original Shogun TV series used authentic Japanese cast.
This version of Shogun, thankfully has been brilliantly cast and the costume and etiquette is painstakingly detailed and exacting of the period. However, I disagree that Shogun has any more reason to involve Japanese actors than Memoirs. They are both adapted from novels written by Western authors. Both sensationalized for western audiences. However, I would say a Geisha is more culturally significant than a Senkogu Jidai Samurai film involving fictional characters loosely based on historical figures, where the artist licence allows for broader scope. In fact, Memoirs of a Geisha is arguably even more controversial that the portrayal of the Geisha was misrepresented as a prostitute and many Japanese female actors would've shunned being involved in that film. That's why I specifically mentioned that Chinese actors were used instead. Consequently, the author was sued by a Japanese lady whom the film's character was based on, for the reasons of misrepresentation.
One thing you did correctly mention is that despite all the criticism I have of incorrect ethnical representation in films, one can not overlook the importance of good entertainment and still enjoy a film for what it is. As long as it was not as terribly cast as Mickey Rooney's shocking portrayal as a Japanese character in Breakfast at Tiffany's, or the hilarious Amazing Harry Hoo from Get Smart. .....A sign of the times indeed.
@@oysterman962 thanks for your opinions.
Paragraph 1: agreed. It’s all just one step at a time. If Scarface was made today decent chance they’d actually pick a Latino or even a Cuban. Pacino did a great job but looking back a very progressive person can argue his accent was a horrible caricature. To each his/her own.
Paragraph 2: partially agree. I didn’t say there weren’t notable Japanese actors. At that time coming from a big studio the actors they chose were simply more “marketable” which your statement of “casting due to popularity etc etc” is saying the same thing in a way. At the time, the mass public may have recognized Ken Watanabe (by face or name) but very few other Japanese actors. Also agreed that Kill Bill is a good counter example.
Paragraph 3: I think which one is more significant as a fiction piece can be debated based on one’s perception of both and personal taste. Also personally I didn’t think the movie overtly portrayed the geishas as prostitutes but again that goes back to my earlier statement that it’s a matter of personal taste (and perspective). There are plenty of arguments out there that make great points as to geishas being very skilled and very refined “prostitutes” but of course that would be angering many people. Again, it’s just how people view things. You make good points overall.
Paragraph 4: agreed. Also personally I don’t even find your example that offensive. At the time of Break at Tiffany’s casting in such a manner and depicting Asians in such ways weren’t considered offensive. We can say it was horrible looking back from a more refined and progressive era. It’s all just… progress and sometimes it’s two steps back one step forward.
Overall I think Hollywood and the mass media industries in general have moved in the right direction with plenty of work still needed. As a minority myself it’s good to see.
@@jyc313 Well said and analyzed. The difference of opinions but the same overall sentiment it what makes films great entertainment 👍
This is a fabulous show, but what I've noticed is we need to go East to enjoy non-DEI entertainment because it never was adopted there. Hope our DEI racists fade away with this shift. As always, the customer rules.
Not enough diversity
@mcul3474 They were busy doing another show.
The set-up is great but the stories are so lame no action imagine this series only have 10 episode and yet no such a big fight the stories round to women
Yabushige actor is the only true japanese
what?
What?
Because they speak English? I also speak English despite never having been outside of Japan.
i don’t understand what you want say
@@mfreak1126 I'm surprised he didn't speak English though, he's done so many high profile Hollywood movies. Nevertheless, him and Sanada are legends, I've known them before they did Hollywood movies.
Cosmo Jarvis (who plays pirate Blackthorne), is a bad actor. He is a poor choice for the role. He is too pretty and he has the mannerisms and look of Tom Hardy. I don't feel like he has figured out his own style as an actor. And he seems to always have the same reaction to everything he encounters. One dimensional despite his huge role. His lines are poorly written as well, so perhaps it is not all his fault.
Maybe u should give it a try
not sure about that one chief
