*Works so well **Fastly.Cool** that it only requires daytime operation until high temp and humidity are overnight. It is difficult to get to side filters, but back is easily accessible.*
i'm lookin' to get it just for emergency uses like if my Central Air Unit/units needs repair, or if i need to plug it into a generator for power outages, yea i'd get it for those purposes
@@mronemanband1 I brought 2 anyway, every little degree counts, especially on those 100 plus degree days! it also looks better both hoses matching. It doesn't look as wierd.
Hey I have the same unit and only one hose is exhausting. Are they both supposed to be exhaust? Some reviews on Amazon say one is an intake but I don't trust them fools.
One is exhaust for hot air to go outside. The other is for intake of fresh air. If you don’t use that it takes air from inside which creates a vacuum in the room and it has to suck in from somewhere. You paid extra for a dual hose. You should take advantage of that. More efficient and cools better. Instructions work well too!
The Whynter Arc 14S 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner was such a perfect buy from Amazon! I actually bought mine last year when my window unit of 5000 BTU was not cooling my 300 square foot room properly. I live in New York City which can have humid days especially when we occasionally get heatwaves with temperatures hitting the 90s. I remember that during a 5-day heatwave last year in July, my room got as warm as 87 degrees with 66 percent humidity which is really warm. My window unit would cool to 85 degrees which were totally unacceptable. Even the week before the heatwave when temperatures were in the low 80s with low humidity my window unit struggled to cool my bedroom below 79 degrees. I cleaned the filter which barely made a difference which prompted me to order this beautiful portable air conditioner by Whynter. It's a dual hosed unit meaning it is very efficient and very powerful at 14k BTU. The minute the unit arrived, I opened the box and let it stand for 6 hours. The unit is quite heavy but the wheels make it much easier to move. The tricky part would be to bring it up a flight of stairs. I used an elevator instead. After learning how to mount and install the window kit, I cleaned the pre-filter and installed the activated carbon filter. I sealed the window kit with Scotch packaging tape and closed the window a bit tight to make sure the window kit was stable. I install 2 aaa batteries into the remote, plug the unit in, and finally power it on. The room temperature was a balmy 87 degrees when I turned on my new portable ac around 9pm est that day. The cold air coming from the top was such a relief! I knew that it would take at least a couple of hours for my home to start feeling comfortable. By midnight, the room temperature was down to 80 degrees. Still warm but felt pretty good compared to 87 degrees! By 9am the next day, my 300 square foot bedroom had cooled to a low of 74 degrees! That felt super comfortable and my previous window units had failed to cool below 75 during the dog days of summer even my 10000 BTU unit! I let it run for 2 days and the room would bottom out at around 69 to 70 degrees which felt quite chilly to wake up to in the morning. 1 year later and I'm still impressed with my portable air conditioner! Is this unit really 14000 BTU? I would say that this unit is definitely capable of cooling up to 500 or even 600 square feet if it was one big room with no walls in the way. It depends on outdoor temperature and humidity. This unit does a great job even on very hot days. The humidity will make the unit work harder but it is very good at making a room feel comfy even on an oppressively humid day. It feels like a 10,000-12,000 BTU unit when I have to cook in the kitchen but that is understandable since the stove definitely adds heat and humidity to your home especially in summer. If you properly insulate the hoses and the window kit and even the window itself with duct wrap, weatherstripping, and tape it will definitely make the air conditioner feel colder and will cool as efficiently as a window unit! Insulation recommendations: Weatherstrips www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MNW8QR1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Foil Duct Wrap www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQMV0A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 After using these products to properly insulate my exhaust and intake hoses, the air conditioner was blowing air as cold as 40-45 degrees and cooled my room and parts of the home down at a quicker rate. My apartment is about 800 square feet by the way. It does not make the whole apartment chilly but it pretty much lowers the humidity at a larger space than it does cool. I would probably buy another unit if I wanted to chill the entire apartment! I can see why this air conditioner is one of the most liked on the market. @ Umar Rehman, help! I know I sound desperate but I am in Vegas and my central AC is almost gone so I got one of these Whynter things so that I can live in one room with the kitties. Can you exp!win what to do with that silver wrapping? Just wrap and tape both hoses? What width of the foam tape should I get, there are several widths and there are gaps all the way around the plastic window adaptor. It gets to 116 degrees Fahrenheit here, btw. Do I cover the who!e window with the foil wrap? Does it matter what side of the wrap goes to the window? I know, can you make a video? No I am asking too much. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch.
@@TheRuthyc Hi, the silver wrap you are talking about would be the insulation for one of the hoses. I got it from here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQMV0A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The most important hose to cover completely with this insulated wrap would be the exhaust hose, where the hot air escapes. The intake hose you may leave that one alone. Yes, you just wrap it around the hose and tape it. www.amazon.com/Wholesale-CASE-Packaging-Tape-Packing-Dispenser/dp/B00BX9JB02/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=scotch+pack&qid=1620717586&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A1VX4B8P7ACKOY&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzQkszMVBWVEQ4MUhJJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTA3NDMxMVJYVkZJNlc2SFM0SCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODY1OTQzM0pVNExZWU8yUTBESSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= This Scotch tape should work.
I lost my home a/c unit on 1 June of last year and was without a/c for a whole month until my neighbors helped me install that Whynter a/c in my bedroom on the day my wife passed away...it was the ONLY cooling system I had in the entire house - I kept it running 234/7 until early this year when it got cool enough to shut it off...I had many fans running in all of the other rooms to at least make living tolerable...I bought a new home a/c unit in early April and was able to shut off that portable a/c...it will eventually go into the garage where it was intended for when my late wife bought it three years ago...it is an EXCELLENT unit...I never had to drain it during the entire 5 -7 months that it ran continuously.
Just got mine a couple days ago from Home Depot, and they used ontrack to deliver it. When they said they delivered it to my door, it was nowhere to be found, and 30 minutes I got a phone call from my neighbor wondering why a package for me was sitting on her doorstep. Home Depot and Ontrak wouldn’t have helped me, they said they delivered it to my house, and it was nowhere to be found. If I didn’t have a honest neighbor, I would’ve been out over 500 bucks. I’ll never have Home Depot ship anything to my house again if the use ontrack.
i just picked up mines today.... damn those two tubes are a pain in the ass...i gave up..if i need to put industrial tape on it i will.....the heat in los angeles is horrible...45 years in the city and i gave up...the fan wasn't working anymore....i read the reviews after buying it.😊(impulse purchase)..but to hear that i most likely wont have to deal the issue of draining it...is nice...and one last thing i didnt have any wood or metal to cover the shortage of space in the window but i used heavy clothing ....😊 to cover that area.....
Taylor I found the same problem one is too short and the other is too long. It either blocks the ventilation going out the window or you don’t have enough plastic to cover the gap.
I own one of this unit. I live we’re it super hot in the summer. 100 to 110 degrees. I have this unit on 24/7 day and night. The unit does not make it cold enough afternoon. My living room 89 degrees 3 pm and to late evening. I don’t know why it can’t make it more cold. I have it set for 61 cold still it can’t make the room temperature cooler. I am in Clovis California. Maybe this unit can’t handle this hot temperature
I just found out that the btu of it’s not enough for the size of the rooms you are cooling, it won’t work effectively. Square footage of room plus the height of ceiling then figure out the btu you need for that room/rooms size needed
the whole reason they make you install the filter, is so you know there is a filter that you need to maintain. thanks for the review, I just punched the ticket on a ARC-14SH and also wanted to check youtube reviews. you did good with the dual hose because a single hose only exhausts, so you home becomes a low air pressure zone. hot air from outside is seeping thru all the cracks in your house to replace the exhausted air.
Hey Taylor. Set the number to the desired temperature. Setting it at 61 doesn’t actually make the air any cooler. Let’s say you set it to 75, when the unit senses the room temp to be 75 it will shit off on its own and restart when the temperature rises a degree or two.
Hi David, I appreciate your comment, but I can definitely tell you that setting at 61 degrees DEFINITELY WILL make the temperature in the room colder. I usually set my temperature at 70 degrees, especially if the bedroom door is closed. Otherwise, the room will get wayyy too cold...Even with a goose-down comforter...even on a 100-degree night. You are right: When you set the unit at a desired temperature, once the unit reaches the temperature, it seems to go into a quiter/even lower mode setting...I'm not sure exactly how this works. But per your original comment, setting the temperature at 61 degrees defintiely DOES make the room cooler. (Unless I'm misunderstanding your comment). Thanks for commenting though, David. Much appreciated.
Definitely man. Same thing with last night. lol 71 degrees set was perfect for the bedroom door being closed. I had it at 61 a few nights ago (forgot to change the settings) and woke up like an icecube lol. No joke. It can get cold! That's why I like to share with people, as I would share with my family. This unit works, and it works great. But if you can do away with a window air conditioner (and don't mind the installation) you'll typically find a lot more bang for your buck with a window unit. :) Let me know your results.
I ordered the whynter arc-143mx, its the upgraded commercial version of the arc 14s. It supposed to be more powerful, more efficient with upgraded commercial grade parts inside. Getting it next week, can't wait! Are u still running this?
Negative. No. You could always buy special wiring to cover it I suppose. Like a screen. You'd want to contact Whynter to ensure this doesn't cause problems. We had no issues with bugs getting inside the house. However, somehow, a mosquito flew in and then landed in the "display" of the unit. Which was interesting. That happened once. I'd think a screen would solve this problem, but just to cover my ass, lol I'd say you'd need to contact whynter to ensure that it's okay to do this.
My 14,000 btu arctic king AKPD-14HR4. Works perfectly, it’s been on almost a year consecutively, using heating and cooling and I never had to drain it. Also it has no problem cooling my 400 square foot room
I dont suggest runnin the AC if the window screen is over the intake or exhaust hoses it will make your AC over heat and shut off. Removing the window screen should solve the problem.
Great recommendation. On the flipside of that, I have noticed that I have somehow-and I'm not sure how, gotten a couple of mosquitos that actually end up in the Display Screen of the unit. This just happened last week. Super weird. But they ended up "leaving" the display screen after awhile. I'm not sure how this is possible-would need to see the unit from the inside. Let's be clear though: I have not had any problems with bugs getting into my actual house, which is a good thing :).
I also bought the dual hose by Whynter, I read reviews and they said it’s the best. But they never told me one of the hose was intake. Why would I want hot air from the outside? Did I got the wrong model?
If you got the same model that I got I haven't had any problem with hot air coming in from the unit. I think I noticed when I first set it up the tubing was a little hot but that hasn't happened since.
this comment is 2 weeks old I though I had the unit over a month now. Here in the East Coast the weather is unpredictable sometimes. Right now it is 73. A perfect 👌 summer day I wish it could stay for the next 50 years. But who knows it could be 90’F next week. On our hottest day it felt like 95, the Whynter portable ac cooled up our bedroom incredibly well. It far exceed my expectations, I don’t even pondering what is the current room temp while the machine is running. Because it cover the room really well. Before that we had a HI-SENSE 🇨🇳 portable ac. The menu and real-time room temperature look very attractive but it struggle to cool down our small bedroom. We had our curtains cover all windows with fan circulating the air. The cold air dies out later that year. Typical Chinese product one time use.
Hey yeah I apologize for the late reply. I know when people buy air conditioners they typically buy them really quickly. I know I did. I put mine on a credit card to be honest with you because we needed it that bad. But it sounds like the unit is working really well for you so I'm glad to hear that! My apologies for the late response.
The reason they use hot air from outside is because they are using the same principle that window units use. Ac's run better when transferring hot air to cool air, and not cooling already cool air! So one is pulling hot air into the unit and transferring it to cool air! Same reason why you would want a dual hose because it draws hot air and is better on those really hot days and a single hose only cools the room temp. It would make sense that a room temp would cool better but the science behind it would suggest otherwise. I heard the dual hoses outperforms the single on hotter days near the 100s and the singles perform better on cooler days maybe 80s and under. Makes sense since the dual needing hotter air to cool isn't getting what it needs to perform effectively. Just my take on it. Best way to buy anything is do your homework. This is the best place to start! Real world reviews are the best way to make a decision vs some online ghost writer
Yes it is, beautiful :) Well..Now it's winter, it would be extra chilly. LOL Wonder if I combined the Whynter AC with a Humidifier, we could get it to snow. :) Like on THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS PRESENT. Where are the 90's movies at?
Hi. Congratulations for the video. Please advise which type of screwdriver should I use to remove the screws from the back of the air conditioner (screws that are hidden)
I have the ARC 11000, it worked wonderfully the first year. The 2nd year it worked pretty well, though towards the end of the summer I had to drain the water a few times. Just started year 3 and it is working ok. First day with upper 80 degree weather and I had to drain the water out of it. I suspect I need to remove the plastic shell and clean out the inside of it as dust probably has gotten into everything.
It will not even cool a 12 x 18 room. The 10,000 btu window unit does. Not this thing, i know because i had one and it struggles to cool a small room. Had to get window unit since this didnt cool.
Great review, Perry. I agree to an extent. Portable units definitely DON'T work as well as window units. I had to get a portable because my apartment complex was no longer allowing for window units. I guess one fell out of the window last year. Not good. So the first portable AC I bought was an LG and I purchased it for $270. That was a complete disaster. Had to be drained every 30-minutes or would shut off. Had absolutely no cooling power. I mean, none! So the ARC-14S for me, was a breath of fresh air to the first portable AC that I purchased. That said, window units are always a better and more efficient option from what I've seen. Portable ACs are simply easier to install and uninstall. It's a trade-off and totally depends. Where I disagree is in your review, you're saying this is not a 14,000 btu unit. It's definitely advertised as such and I believe the FTC would be all over this if Whynter was committing fraud by falsely advertising the unit. Is it possible that the unit you purchased at 10,000 BTUs is simply a better built unit and therefore, it works better? I think that's a possibility. It's always good to shop around, so I appreciate your recommendation. What brand of unit did you buy, by the way?
Thanks for your review, helpful! But can you show how to disconnect them from the window and the back of the unit? Directions say to push in and twist and I can't get it to disconnect the hose connectors! THanks! I can't find any video or instructions showing how to easily disconnect the hose connectors from the unit and the window casing!
Joslyn L yes. I'll make a video tomorrow. thank you for your comment. The hoses are a little tricky but if you work with them, you'll get it. I'll make a video in the morning 😊 thanks again for your comment. Great video idea!
Hey I apologize for not getting the video up. I have no excuse. I will produce the video and upload it soon. That was probably super inconvenient for you, and will work on doing better about when I upload videos. Did you ever solve your problem?
Hi Taylor, no worries, when you get a chance. No, all I did was disconnect the hoses from the window adapter and stored the unit with the hoses attached to the unit since it seems impossible to disconnect them from the unit. Thankfully, they are more easily removed from the window adapter.
I bought this unit that claimed to be 14,000 btu to replace a 9000 btu wall unit. The 9000 btu unit operformed this thing. I liked the idea of nothing sticking out the wall or window. It does have good ideas like blowing the air out the top and upward. I dont need the timer stuff, just nice cool air. Found that the thermostat is off, sometimes the thermostat shuts the compressor off. You cant set it to cycle the fan on and off with the thermostat. The unit really isnt too noisy, easy to set up the hoses without anything sticking out the window or wall. Had to get a 10,000 window unit because the whyter cant cool the room much. The 10,000 btu window unit blows the whyter unit away. Had a tech check the whyter unit out, they had it apart and found there is not enough evaporator to be 14,000 btu. Its actually around 7000 btu. They over rate these things. The 10,000 window unit cools nicely, 14,000 btus would cool better, but it doesnt, its not really 14,000 btu. The power cord on a 14,000 unit is quite large, however the whyter cord isnt that heavy. This is not 14,000 btu. These portables are all over rated terribly, all of them.

@@EpicDadGains i got a window unit from walmart. Figured it was worth a try and I could return it if I wasnt happy. It is a cheap walmart brand, but it works well, cools much better than the portable. I liked the portable idea because I didnt have to have it where It could be seen. Never had to empty it, the water was self evaporating out the hose that discharges thru the window. I looked at the evaporator coil on the 10,000 btu. There is more coil then the one on the whyter unit. Im curious as to how they rate those. It just didnt want to cool a 12x 18 room. 14,000 btu should have cooled the daylights out of the room.
@@raul1899 Received this unit today after delayed shipment. It is cooling my room very efficiently and with acceptable noise level. So I like it! Will see how it goes in August heat wave. My only complaint at the moment: marketing genius called it "portable", but I'd rather carry my car to the second floor next time, for real.
Hey whoopnik can you tell me if the hoses are suppose to be constantly exhausting/intaking when in AC mode? I got one of these today but notice the hoses only come on sometimes and aren’t exhausting/intaking the rest of the time. Is this normal? My single hose Artic King AC I had before this constantly exhausted the hot air out it’s single hose so I’m not sure if this is normal or not. Thank you
I have not had a power outage, but per Amazon "It also features an auto-restart function which it automatically restarts on the previous settings after power outage." I would assume this to be true, otherwise, Whynter would be falsely advertising a feature that doesn't really exist. Thanks for Your comment.
I seriously don't get it! Why do so many people make videos in portrait mode? Would you watch a movie, tv show or a ball game in portrait mode? Absolutely makes no sense. Videos should NEVER be made in portrait mode.
Hey would this unit work for a sliding window? Everyone i see usign this a/c on youtube have normal windows but i would need to put the hose vertically is it doable?
Placing the hose vertically is definitely doable. Depending on the height of your sliding window though, you may need to place a piece of cardboard or insulation in to cover any "extra space" that may not be covered. From Amazon: - Includes extendable exhaust and intake hose (up to 60") and window kit (up to 46") The 46" is the number that you'll be interested in. :) If you're slider window is more than 3'10" than you'll need to cover the gap with something like cardboard, plexi glass, etc.
Negative, D-Limonene crushes it! Every time. I use d-limonene with ginkgo every morning, and the d-limonene crushes it. The ginkgo gives me more energy. That combined with increased water intake and cutting coffee back to 2 cups a day? Works really well.
It's a self-evaporating unit. To drain, you can take out the plug positioned in the bottom-center of the unit. Is that what you're asking or something else?
Sweet! I never intended for this review to hit towards the top results-thus why I shot it on my cell phone. I'm glad that it helped you though. Thanks for commenting. :)
Yes. Definitely to an extent. You'll need your AC on low setting (as opposed to medium or high) and it defintiely helps to have the volume above what I would consider "quiet." This air conditioner VS say my previously owned Window Fridgidaire AC? The Whynter is louder. From my research, both Whynter and Haier units seem to rate as some of the quiter portable air conditioners on the market.
Whynter and Haier (from my research) produce some of the quieter portable air conditioning units on the market. That said, if you're trying to watch TV in a small (standard-sized) bedroom, you'll want to run your Whynter on low and turn up the TV volume to "medium-loudness" (from a subjective standpoint).
Great question, Michael. I had never set up a portable air conditioner. As the sounds of it, you probably already know there really isn't much "setup" to it. After having set this up again just last week for this summer, I don't think it was as much challenging, as it was me second-guessing myself. Here's why: Getting the tubing to fit into the back of the air conditioning unit and the external exhaust holes was probably the most questionable aspect of putting this together- As there really isn't much else to put together. [Just put the filter in the window and close it, right? Pretty simple stuff, I agree.] The problem was: I felt like the tubes were supposed to 'twist' on. Even today, I find myself really just "shoving" the tubing into the holding slots, as twisting doesn't seem to work. This can be somewhat of a pain, because the tubing likes to collapse while you're trying to insert it into the exhaust holes. This can make it challenging to keep the tubing in place. Get it wrong, and the tubes will just keep falling out. That was the biggest "setup" problem that I had, but now that I have done it again, this seems to work just fine. Even still, the tubes are annoying as hell, if I'm being 100% honest. Thanks for taking the time to comment, man. Have a good one. Almost forgot: I was still frustrated that in my small window, the second "sliding" piece that was provided with the unit was too long and actually covered 1/2 of 1 of the external exhaust holes. This forced me to cutout cardboard instead. Rather annoying when you're spending this kind of money on a unit. If I had a saw, this wouldn't have been an issue. It also won't be an issue in a larger window. Thanks again for commenting.
In his defense, the instructions say to attach the hose connectors you twist them on clockwise. That’s not true. You twist them counter clockwise to get them on. I didn’t think they’d get that wrong so I kept trying for about 10 mins before turning them the other way lol
@@googleuser3425 that's the main thing. Just getting the hoses to attach can be a pain in the ass. But this was true for the other portable unit I tried as well. The word "difficult" probably wasn't the right word to use. Lol but instead of trying to "twist" on the tubing, I found success more with just "jamming" the tubing into place. Lol
If you're reading this and looking for a unit, it sounds like GE makes good units. If it's more in your price range, this may be a good option as well. This is why it's always great to shop around. Thanks for the comment, Hugh. PS: If you're willing to post a video review, I'd be more than happy to link to it so people can see your review. Let me know. Taylor
Whynter ARC-14S is a good AC and keeps the apartment cool! But it's not perfect. (Description explains why...) Let me know if you have any questions. Stay cool this summer. - Taylor
Awsome review, I'd love to buy this, in the UK I cannot for the life of me find a dual hose air conditioner...they just don't sell them here. So might have to buy one through Amazon USA and get it delivered to the UK. Thing is....that's a very long trip for the AC, would hope it wouldn't get damaged with all the knocking around I'm sure it would get.
It sounds like you could use one. I'm sure the manufacturer packages the product well. I just sent them an email to ask. I'll let you know of their response.
Honestly though, surprised they don't sell them there in the UK. That's weird. But it also sounds like you have looked. I'm waiting for a response from Whynter.
Sent them this: "I have a friend who lives in the UK and is interested in buying a arc14s but is concerned with the shipping and possible damage due to the distance. How has your success been shipping to the UK? Any complaints from customers? Also, any shops that sell this locally in the UK?"
Hi, sorry for replying late. Bless you thanks for doing that really appreciate it. It's really strange..I have spent alot of time looking up for a dual but absolutely nothing. All single hose. It might not be that bad...but so many people say avoid them. As far as getting a Whynter in UK, it's a real shame, because it looks like you guys have really good conditioners with lots of choice. Thanks again my friend for sending them an email. Really appreciate it
Thanks so much. I too would love to see a video on how to get the tubes out of the mountings. It took me forever to thread the tubes to the vent ends, and the pre-filter finally is back in stock so I have to redo everything once that arrives. Also, how are you draining yours? It looks like a giant pain in the @$$.
Hi Jen, since making this video, I have actually never drained my unit. Per Amazon, "This unit features the patented advance auto drain technology." I'm not sure if draining required as part of maintenance-but I haven't had a problem yet. I need to look thru my maintenance instructions. Lol to be honest, this is something I have been slacking on. In regarding to getting the tubes out of the mountings (and in)- this was my BIGGEST gripe with this unit. It's a pain, both ways. There's really no "science" or "right way" to do this IMO. You just do it. I will say- I tried "threading" the tubing into the vents and this simply didn't work. I finally decided to SHOVE the tubing into the vents-and that brought me the most success. Thank you for commenting.
To thread these properly, The tube has to be fully collapsed, then spin the host connector in a way that it catches the small little lip at the end of the hose, and then you will thread and it will hold.
The unit states the water is taken out by the exhaust hose... do you ever have to drain it manually though, and if so, how do you know when it needs it? Thanks
I agree with the two comments above. This unit uses self-draining technology. I had purchased an LG prior to this unit-and it was a disaster...I had to drain the LG every 1-2 hours, otherwise, an error code would display, and the unit would shutoff. I have performed ZERO maintenance on my Whynter ARC-14S and am on my second summer in a row. (I kind of slack when it comes to maintenance on anything). But I haven't had any problems to date (knock on wood), nor have I had to drain the unit.
My apologies, I never intended for this review to "take off" so to speak. I shot it on my cell phone. Lol That said, I still feel it's informative enough. Having a "noise sample" IMO wouldn't do any justification vs listening in person, because the recording device will alter the noise vs how the sound really is. On a "low" setting, the air conditioner allows you to hear your TV volume at what I consider to be a "medium" volume level. Noise is tough, because it's really all subjective. Nonetheless, it the "noise" from the AC doesn't cause too much interference-unless you're trying to listen to your television on a quieter volume setting. Thanks for commenting.
I've had one for over 4 years and still going strong. Cools my large bedroom in a house without central air. Life saver.
My Whynter was a lifesaver from June of last year through March of this year...I had a new a/c system installed at the beginning of April
Good review,I was gifted mine works well, one bed apt, about 800 sq. feet.,ground level,I'm near Seattle, had it one year.Like it alot, easy to set up.
Why do mine go from hot to cold randomly do I need to fill it with anything
Insulate the exhaust hose. Home Depot sells the 6" foil wrapped insulated sleeve (makes a huge difference).
Insulation recommendations:
Weatherstrips

Foil Duct Wrap
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQMV0A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
After using these products to properly insulate my exhaust and intake hoses, the air conditioner was blowing air as cold as 40-45 degrees and cooled my room and parts of the home down at a quicker rate.

I got it from here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQMV0A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The most important hose to cover completely with this insulated wrap would be the exhaust hose, where the hot air escapes.
I got one of these a couple of weeks ago, it does an excellent job of cooling the room it's in. I highly recommend this Whynter.
Can the hoses go vertically in thr window?
Which unit do you have?
Your review says 14S, the link sends you to 14SH
I guess the H is for heater ... Don't need that
i just picked up mines today.... damn those two tubes are a pain in the ass...i gave up..if i need to put industrial tape on it i will.....the heat in los angeles is horrible...45 years in the city and i gave up...the fan wasn't working anymore....i read the reviews after buying it.😊(impulse purchase)..but to hear that i most likely wont have to deal the issue of draining it...is nice...and one last thing i didnt have any wood or metal to cover the shortage of space in the window but i used heavy clothing ....😊 to cover that area.....
You won't be disappointed. But yes! Tubes are a huge pain in the ass. You have to force/shove them in in my experience
@@EpicDadGains 🤣🤣🤣
You mentioned something about draining it do you have to drain it or what can you tell me about that thank you
I've never had to drain this. That was a different unit.
Taylor I found the same problem one is too short and the other is too long. It either blocks the ventilation going out the window or you don’t have enough plastic to cover the gap.
FYI, when you film with your phone, turn your phone horizontal.
Square footage of room plus the height of ceiling then figure out the btu you need for that room/rooms size needed
the whole reason they make you install the filter, is so you know there is a filter that you need to maintain. thanks for the review, I just punched the ticket on a ARC-14SH and also wanted to check youtube reviews.
you did good with the dual hose because a single hose only exhausts, so you home becomes a low air pressure zone. hot air from outside is seeping thru all the cracks in your house to replace the exhausted air.
hello do you still have it is it still working fine?
Still working. Gave it to a family member and they said no problems to date.
Taylor Thompson awesome thanks man I’m gonna try it out and see if I can come out with the same results
Can I put this in a left to right sliding window?
Yes
I ordered the whynter arc-143mx, its the upgraded commercial version of the arc 14s. It supposed to be more powerful, more efficient with upgraded commercial grade parts inside. Getting it next week, can't wait! Are u still running this?
Getting an E2 error code on mine & no clue how to fix it. Won’t start & I can’t find an answer online!
Are the hoses covered with a screen or something so it stops animals from going inside?
Negative. I'd think a screen would solve this problem, but just to cover my ass, lol I'd say you'd need to contact whynter to ensure that it's okay to do this.
setting the temp to 61, i had to chuckle, i'm not the only one for serious cooling
Thanks for review, I am going possibly get this AC😎
Do you have any idea how much it cost you to operate that for a month
The sticker that comes with the unit says estimated yearly at 219. This is one of the highest rated energy saving AC units.
Sandra Hernandez - I kept the screen on it it works fine.
I wonder what Whynter says about this. Maybe we can give them a call and find out. I'll see if I can call them this Friday.
Does this run your electricity bill up?
Does this AC come with covers for the exhaust and intake ports?
I just received mine yesterday, yes they do come with covers
Yes, 2 of them in fact
Hi is it working well still?
It's 85 degrees and the AC is working awesome
Yes it is, beautiful :) Well..Now it's winter, it would be extra chilly. LOL Wonder if I combined the Whynter AC with a Humidifier, we could get it to snow. :) Like on THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS PRESENT.
Where are the 90's movies at?
How much power does this unit use?
Do you still have it? If so, how is it working in April of 2019? :)
I wish you had covered utility/operating costs.
Nice review. I appreciate your honesty. Refreshing.
Hi. Congratulations for the video. Please advise which type of screwdriver should I use to remove the screws from the back of the air conditioner (screws that are hidden)
#2 Phillips. A #1 will also work.
How has it held up since this review?
I have the ARC 11000, it worked wonderfully the first year. The 2nd year it worked pretty well, though towards the end of the summer I had to drain the water a few times. Just started year 3 and it is working ok. First day with upper 80 degree weather and I had to drain the water out of it. I suspect I need to remove the plastic shell and clean out the inside of it as dust probably has gotten into everything.
do you think this unit would work well in a room 15x 25?
375 sq feet then? Yes. Easily.
Awesome! I'll check tomorrow! Thanks :)

Bought this unit after watching your review :D
How did it go? How do you like it?
@@raul1899 Received this unit today after delayed shipment. It is cooling my room very efficiently and with acceptable noise level. So I like it! Will see how it goes in August heat wave. My only complaint at the moment: marketing genius called it "portable", but I'd rather carry my car to the second floor next time, for real.
Is the unit working well for you?
How can someone be surprised when the hose that exhausts all the heat from the house "gets really hot"? lol
Thank you
Does it actually restart on its own if theres a power outage? Or do you have to push a button for it to get going again?
I have not had a power outage, but per Amazon "It also features an auto-restart function which it automatically restarts on the previous settings after power outage."
I would assume this to be true, otherwise, Whynter would be falsely advertising a feature that doesn't really exist. Thanks for Your comment.
Yes, after a power outage it restarts with the previous settings.
Jerry Clarke that's way cool man I mean yeah heck yeah now only if it ran without power... you know what I'm saying lol

I seriously don't get it! Why do so many people make videos in portrait mode? Would you watch a movie, tv show or a ball game in portrait mode? Absolutely makes no sense. Videos should NEVER be made in portrait mode.
Lol
Thanks for the very informative review. I just ordered one via your Amazon link.
Thank You, Jerry! Much appreciated. I hope that the unit ends up working well for you. Thank you!
From Amazon:
- Includes extendable exhaust and intake hose (up to 60") and window kit (up to 46")
The 46" is the number that you'll be interested in. :) If you're slider window is more than 3'10" than you'll need to cover the gap with something like cardboard, plexi glass, etc.
PapaBless yes
Sorry - I never said YES. But the answer like you're saying, Arturo, is YES. This unit works in vertical and horizontal windows.
How is your acid reflux? Omeprazol fixed it ?
Negative, D-Limonene crushes it! Every time. I use d-limonene with ginkgo every morning, and the d-limonene crushes it. The ginkgo gives me more energy. That combined with increased water intake and cutting coffee back to 2 cups a day? Works really well.
any cleaning filter regularly involved?
I haven't cleaned it yet. Still works fine. But I'm not sure. I'll need to check and see if it's dirty. Let me see and then I'll comment back
Does it have a condensation extracting/draining tube thingy?
It's a self-evaporating unit. To drain, you can take out the plug positioned in the bottom-center of the unit.
Is that what you're asking or something else?
Hi there , do you happen to know what diameter the hoses are?
You did a great job. I have had that unit it is an excellent unit.
Sweet! I never intended for this review to hit towards the top results-thus why I shot it on my cell phone. I'm glad that it helped you though. Thanks for commenting. :)
Can you watch tv and play with a gaming system with the ac running?
So....how loud is it?
Whynter and Haier (from my research) produce some of the quieter portable air conditioning units on the market. That said, if you're trying to watch TV in a small (standard-sized) bedroom, you'll want to run your Whynter on low and turn up the TV volume to "medium-loudness" (from a subjective standpoint).
Question for you, ive read these come with a heat pump as well. If this one does, can it automatically switch from AC to the heat pump as needed?
How can you find these instructions difficult? Man you are something special.
Great question, Michael.
I had never set up a portable air conditioner. As the sounds of it, you probably already know there really isn't much "setup" to it.
After having set this up again just last week for this summer, I don't think it was as much challenging, as it was me second-guessing myself.
Here's why:
Getting the tubing to fit into the back of the air conditioning unit and the external exhaust holes was probably the most questionable aspect of putting this together- As there really isn't much else to put together.
[Just put the filter in the window and close it, right? Pretty simple stuff, I agree.]
The problem was:
I felt like the tubes were supposed to 'twist' on.
Almost forgot:
I was still frustrated that in my small window, the second "sliding" piece that was provided with the unit was too long and actually covered 1/2 of 1 of the external exhaust holes.
Lol
Great pick up
Thanks for the review! Just purchased using your link, so hopefully you get some credit.
Thank you! I hope that your unit is working well for you. Much appreciated. Thanks for commenting.
Mine did not good a good job so I returned it. My 8,000 GE window A/C was 3x better at cooling the same room.
If you're reading this and looking for a unit, it sounds like GE makes good units. If it's more in your price range, this may be a good option as well. This is why it's always great to shop around. Thanks for the comment, Hugh.
PS:
If you're willing to post a video review, I'd be more than happy to link to it so people can see your review.
Let me know.

What is the diameter of the pipes?
if the AC works then why do you have your shirt off? huh answer me that.
Whynter ARC-14S is a good AC and keeps the apartment cool! But it's not perfect. (Description explains why...)
Let me know if you have any questions.
Stay cool this summer.

I cant keep the hoses in place they keep coming out.
Please any advice
Sent them this:
"I have a friend who lives in the UK and is interested in buying a arc14s but is concerned with the shipping and possible damage due to the distance.
Really appreciate it
These ship from China to the US. Going from the US to the UK would not be a problem.
It's a damn filter.... one of those hoses will be hotter due to one being a intake....
The unit states the water is taken out by the exhaust hose... do you ever have to drain it manually though, and if so, how do you know when it needs it?
Thanks
Mathew Anderson You don't have to drain the water. It self evaporates
Mathew Anderson you only have to drain it if you have it on the dehumidifier mode
Great review. Thanks for video. God bless and Good Luck with best wishes.
Thank you for watching And for the wishes. I hope all is well, Raymond.
a review without noise sample? come on.
